GARCIA -- Daniel Gerald Jr. In memory of Daniel Gerald Garcia Jr. Our Precious Baby Boy August 11, 2003 to April 28, 2006 Five years ago you celebrated your last Easter. I can still see you searching for eggs by yourself. You always wanted to be a big boy -so soon. Five years ago a preventable accident took your life, an unlocked gate and a swimming pool - changed everything forever. You never got to be a big boy and celebrating Easter just isnt the same. Though the years have passed, our lives were changed forever and yours was lost. Time marches on, but my heart still hurts because five years ago was the last time I got to see you smile, hear you laugh, and hold you close. It was then that I had to say goodbye. You never got to be a big boy and nothing will ever change that. Time does not heal all wounds, in some cases, it only makes them hurt more. I love you and miss you more each day you are forever the first and last thought of my day. If I Iaugh, I remember your laugh, If I smile, I think of you And I continue to live not because you died, but because you lived - yes my hito because you lived. Love Mama

He was also a dear friend to many in his community. Ken's sudden departure has left a huge void in the lives of the family and friends who cherished and loved him so very much. While growing up in the small town of Madison, Ken enjoyed basketball, competitive diving, and the thrill of fast cars. Ken's need for speed' led him into a life long distinguished career as a United States Air Force fighter pilot where he earned his wings as an Air Force Master Aviator. He had begun his career in July 1947 as a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps and would eventually rise to the rank of Colonel. Ken proudly served his country as a career officer for 30 years and was quickly identified as a leader serving as a Flight commander, Squadron commander and deputy Wing commander flying the F-86, F-102 and F-4 fighter aircraft. He flew multiple combat tours in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars as well as a combat tour during the Cuban missile crisis. Ken's valor in combat would earn him the highest honor bestowed upon a military pilot; two separate awards of The Distinguished Flying Cross. He was also awarded the following distinguished service awards; The Meritorious Service Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, The Air Medal with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters, The Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, The Air Force Outstanding Unit award with 6 oak leaf clusters, The Combat Readiness Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, The Army Good Conduct Medal, The National Defense Service Medal with 1 bronze star, The Korean Service Medal, The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, and The Air Force Longevity Service Award with 5 oak leaf clusters. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the River Rats' Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association. Ken also received a personal letter from President Gerald R. Ford in recognition of his visit to Ken's unit while was he stationed at Elmendorf, AFB in Alaska. Upon his military retirement, Ken obtained a degree in accounting and worked for Treider and company, CPA. Ken had a sincere passion for golf which had him on the course with his friends at least three times a week throughout his life in Albuquerque. An active member of Four Hills Country Club, he also enjoyed playing bridge regularly with his wife, Jean and their friends which lead to him recently obtaining his Life Master's Certificate for outstanding achievement in competition. THOMPSON -- Robert Dudley "Bob" born July 8, 1927. On the morning of April 23, our husband, father, grandfather, friend and pet owner passed peacefully away from all who loved him. He carried himself with dignity and never shied away from responsibility in his long life. He took good care of himself and of each of us. "Dad" was always there when we needed him. He met the challenge of his last illness with grace and acceptance. Dad loved the game of golf, airplanes and flying, fishing and hunting, and having fun with his long time friends. He was an independent thinker. He enjoyed a long retirement of 21 years after his many years of working in the sales profession. He loved cars and "closing the deal". A Model A was his first love and he always kept his cars clean and ready for the next trip. Bob was born July 8, 1927 to Elton Dudley Thompson and Cecille Jacobs Thompson and grew up in Roswell, the middle son of three. Living through the Depression years was hard but Bob helped out by delivering newspapers, doughnuts and being a soda jerk at the local dairy. He joined the Navy right out of high school to serve his country at the end of World War II. After the war he went to UNM on the GI Bill and enjoyed participating as the house manager for the Pikes, Pi Kappa Alpha on campus. At UNM, Bob met Patricia Jean (Patti) Rose. They married in 1949 and started their life together in Roswell surrounded by close friends and extended family. Their children Trudy and Bill were born there and consider Roswell "home". Bob is survived by Patti, his wife of 61 years and his loving cat, Max, of the family home; his daughter Trudy, son in law Joel Farrell of Farmington, and their children, Emily of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Elliott of Albuquerque; his son William D. "Bill" Thompson, daughter in law Rebecca, and their son, Adam of Albuquerque, and numerous family and friends. Celebration of his life will be held at French Mortuary on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 2:30 pm., 10500 Lomas NE.
