COURTNEY -- Ruth Ann (Mead) Courtney, 63, joined our Father in Heaven, Friday, March 25, 2011 peacefully of natural causes. She had been a resident of Albuquerque since March 18, 1948. Ruth was preceded by her life partner, Honda Dan; her parents Kenneth & Josephine; and her brother Bob. Ruth is survived by many cats and other animal friends that she loved dearly. She is also survived by her son, Zane Mead of Albuquerque; her sister Joan Marie; brother-in- law Jeri Loucks; and nephew, Jeri Loucks II, also of Albuquerque. Ruth had many friends and workers that she was fond of and inspired on a daily bases. She was a proud graduate of Del Norte High School. Per her request there will be no memorial services, however we will all remember her as we knew her in life, feisty, opinionated and honest. The family requests that as a memorial to Ruth's love of animals, that donations be made to the Animal Humane Society. Ruth will be missed.

DOMINGUEZ -- Rachel Alice Parra Dominguez, 72, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away March 26, 2011. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eddie J. Dominguez; her parents, and her oldest sister. She is survived by the following children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: son, Eddie Joe Dominguez, Jr., grandchildren, Jesse Dominguez, Jenna Bednarski, Daniel Dominguez, Katrina Maldonado, Isabel Dominguez, and seventeen great-grandchildren; daughter, Teresa L. Lara, grandchildren Jessica Perez, Noelle Currier, and Damien Tyler Bullard, and three great-grandchildren; daughter, Cindy Lindsey, grandchildren Samuel, Benjamin, and Elizabeth Lindsey; and daughter, Carol Dominguez Shay, and grandchild Nathaniel Shay. Ms. Dominguez is also survived by five sisters and one brother, numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held March 31, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at French's Funeral Home on 7121 Wyoming Blvd, NE. The rosary and Mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. on April 1, 2011 at Prince of Peace Catholic Community located at 12500 Carmel Ave, NE . EVANS -- Alvin Leroy Evans Alvin Leroy Evans, 83, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away January 14, 2011. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann and brother, Kenneth Evans, both of Albuquerque. He is survived by two brothers, John T. Evans and Ray Farrow; son, John L. Evans and wife, Marene; grandchildren, Thomas Evans, Keri and husband, Wayne Steplowski; one great-grandson, Michael; two daughters, Marianne and Patricia Evans; and two special girls, Karen Siko and Loretta Micek, all of Albuquerque, along with many nephews, nieces, family and friends. Al was a Navy veteran of WWII. He came back home to work for Mountain Bell and later worked in communications at Manzano Base for 18 years where he left to manage Sandia Peak Ski Area. There he was known as "Uncle Al" for the soft way he helped the many children that skied. He was a member of Albuquerque Ski Club. Al was an avid fisherman who loved to fish the Chama River at El Vado Ranch and passed this passion to his children. A celebration of life will be held April 2, 2011 at 7:00 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution Ave NE. In accordance with Al's wishes cremation has taken place and interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. FORTE -- Eleanor J. Forte passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Eleanor is survived by her aunt, Sister Natalia O.S.B., a sister Clare Forte and a brother Charles Forte. In addition, a niece and nephew Veronica Stuart and husband Mike with children, Clare and Michael; Brian Martinez and his wife, Jennifer with children, Jake and Samantha. Eleanor was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, March 28, 1946. She received her degree in architecture but worked in social services for the Community Outreach Program for the Deaf and Blind of NM and AZ for twenty-four years. A Rosary will be held at John XXXIII in Albuquerque on Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. Her funeral services will be at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011 followed by her burial at Rosario Cemetery. FULLERTON -- Vivian P. Fullerton, (Grandma Butchie), 95, was welcomed into the open arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 25, 2011. Vivian was preceded in death in 1970 by her husband Ray, the love of her life, and by her beloved son Bobby in 2009. She was born on a farm in Chambers, Nebraska, in 1915, one of twelve children born to James and Gertrude Cavanaugh. Early on, she learned the value of hard work, honesty, sincerity, and kindness. She had an unconditional love for everyone she came in contact with, and was loved in return. She is survived by a sister, Claire Ramsey (Bill); a brother, Richard "Hoot" Cavanaugh; a daughter, Mary Lu Parker (Gene); sons, Jerry Fullerton (Peggy), and Jack Fullerton (Marie); daughter-in-law, Pam Fullerton. Surviving grandchildren include David Parker (Angie), Robert Parker (Leslie), Jim Parker (Julie), John Parker (Rissie), Zach Fullerton (Celeste Curry), Brian Sterck (Diana), Tommy Fullerton (Beth), and Monica Fullerton. Her great-grandchildren include Chance and Sierra Fullerton, Ryan Parker, Christen and Jessica Parker, Scott and Kelsey Parker, Payson and Keylee Parker. The family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to Vivian's caregivers Maryam Karimi, Bertie Driggers, and Suzette Driggers; her wonderful neighbors Rita and Ron, and Joe and Mary; and her gentle and caring hospice nurse Eileen Dosch. Her little Irish smile will be missed by many, but the thought of her in her new heavenly home will comfort us all. Cremation has taken place. GONZALES -- Cornelio "Sonny" Gonzales, Jr. was born September 1, 1953. A resident of Grants, NM went home to be with our Lord, God and Savior on Friday afternoon March 25, 2011 after battling a critical illness. He is survived by his wife Judy Gonzales of Grants, NM; parents Cornelio and Adela Gonzales of Jemez Springs, NM; daughter, Antionette and husband Eddy Armijo of Albuquerque, NM; stepchildren Warren Lewis, Melissa Sanchez of Grants, NM and Jacqueline and husband Isidro Longoria of San Diego, CA; brothers, Rudy Gonzales of Espanola, NM, Mike Gonzales and wife Flora of Rio Rancho, NM, and sister Margie Levine and husband Barry of Rio Rancho, NM, and Mary Encinias and husband Patrick Sr. of Peralta, NM; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. GUTIERREZ -- Ralph Joseph Gutierrez, age 89, passed away at his home on Monday, March 14, 2011. He was born October 24th, 1921, in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Jesus and Aurora Gutierrez. He met his wife Jean Breakiron while they were both in the Army during WWII and they were married in 1946. Earlier, Ralph's father established the Valley Drug Store in Las Cruces, which was located across the street from St. Genevieve's Church. After his father retired Ralph moved the drug store down the street to the corner of Main and Amador where My Brothers Place Restaurant now stands and established City Drug Store. In 1981 Ralph moved his pharmacy to Telshor and opened Medical Center Pharmacy where he retired and sold the Pharmacy in 1995. Ralph served in the U.S. Army Reserves where he retired in the 60's. He achieved the rank of Major in the Intelligence Branch. He was a devoted member of The Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Las Cruces. Ralph humbly received several awards throughout his life including the New Mexico Pharmaceutical Association's Bowl of Hygeia Award in 1983 and the University of New Mexico, Distinguished Alumni Award, College of Pharmacy in 1986. Ralph was named to the Democratic Party of New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District's Hall of Fame in 1990. Nationally, both A.H. Robbins and Merck, Sharp, & Dohme honored Ralph with Outstanding Achievements in Pharmacy Awards. Ralph served on The Board of Directors at Memorial Medical Center and The Bank of the Rio Grande, as well as the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy. He was instrumental in helping to establish two financial institutions in Las Cruces. Ralph was chosen as President of the New Mexico Pharmaceutical Association in 1961. He was selected as the Chairman of the Board of Memorial Medical Center from June 1991 June 1995.. He was respected for this innovation, grace, humilty and leadership by many groups. While Ralph was in his late 70's and early 80's he lobbied the New Mexico State Legislature to develop Health Clinics in the poorest areas of New Mexico. He was successful after eight years of lobbying to help develop two health clinics in southern Dona Ana County. Ralph's success in life was because he was a giving, unselfish man. Ralph is survived by his brother Edward Gutierrez (Mary Sue); sons Tom Gutierrez (Rebecca Vigil), John Gutierrez, and Jamie Gutierrez (Renee); his daughters Jeana Gutierrez (Jim Laws) and New Mexico State Representative Joni Gutierrez (Lowell Catlett); grandchildren, Michelle Gutierrez (Mark Lawrence), Sarah Schwarz (Greg), Jennifer Fernandez, Patrick Gutierrez, Tai Hart (Patrick) and Nicole Reeves. Nieces include Madelyn Gutierrez, Janet Wolfe and Laura Gutierrez Spencer and nephew Mark Gutierrez. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Gutierrez in 2002; his sons Jeffrie Gutierrez in 1953 and Steve Gutierrez in 1993 and his sister Maria Spencer in 1992. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church on Lomas Blvd., N.E. between Louisiana, N.E. and Wyoming, N.E. HASKINS -- George Haskins, Jr., age 85, a resident of Los Chavez, NM passed away at his home on Friday, March 25, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was an avid fisherman and taught all his grandkids how to fish. George proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII serving during the Normandy Invasion. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Vada Morgan Haskins; brothers JB and Red Haskins; and grandson, Jordan Fought. George is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Billie; daughter, Jean Fought and Phillip Padilla; son, Jerry Haskins; grandchildren, Chris Fought, Kyle Fought and wife, Tiffany, Eric Fought and wife, Jennifer Womack, Dustie Atkinson, Cory Sparks, Matthew Haskins, and Andrea Lovelace; 14 great-grandchildren; and special friend and caretaker, Suzanne Eastman. HEAPHY -- Mary Lou McCallum Heaphy. The sparkling and ever charming Mary Lou McCallum Heaphy, 83, an 80-year resident of Albuquerque, passed away early on Saturday morning, March 26, 2011 after a short battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bernard Heaphy and son, Clifford John Heaphy. She was the beloved mother of Robert (and wife Kay), James (and wife Roberta), Thomas, Maryanne, and Kathy. She delighted in her grandchildren, Kaitlin, Andrew, and Chantele, and many nieces and nephews. Informally she counted among her cherished extended family: Tony Mattson and Pat Haber, Greg Baczek, Randall Maydew, and Jenan Gonzales. Mary Lou was a local author and public speaker. She had several articles published in magazines, including in the New Mexico Magazine. But she was most proud of her book, "A Cliffie Experience, Tales of New Mexico from 1902-1940," about her adopted mother, Clifford Myrick McCallum. Mary Lou was also an active alumna of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority for 63 years, including as President, and was involved in numerous organizations, including her beloved Chapter V of P.E.O, for which she served as President. She was a graduate of Albuquerque High School and has remained active with AHS alumni. She recently organized the 65th class reunion held in September 2010. Mary Lou graduated from UNM, receiving a Bachelor of Arts and Masters degrees. She was a proud alumna of the University, and in 1988 she received UNM's "Alumni Meritorious Service Award." Mary Lou enjoyed giving classes and workshops at TVI/CNM on Early Albuquerque and was a favorite and popular speaker for Albuquerque's OASIS Institute. "Our sadness is too deep for tears." But our hearts are full and we, her family, are so deeply proud of her and her many accomplishments, and we will forever be in awe of the irrepressible and irreplaceable Mary Lou. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 from 4:00 7:00 p.m., at French - University. MALDONADO -- Angela Rael Maldonado, age 46, passed away March 24, 2011. NICKLE -- John Austin Nickle Jr. passed away in his home on Friday, March 25, 2011. He was born on October 19, 1929 in Chicago, son of John Austin Nickle Sr. and Nina Louisella Noyer Nickle. He was a USAF Veteran of the Korea and Vietnam wars. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Arlena Carden Nickle; children, John A. III (Mary DeHart), Jan Nickle Dunlap (Bruce), James A. Nickle (Lucy Angel) and Joel Nickle; grandchildren, Rusty Dunlap, Robby Dunlap, Arlena Nickle, Diana Nickle, Austin Nickle (John A. STONE -- Arthur C. Stone, Jr, known to friends as "Stoney", died Sunday March 20, 2011 at age 94. Arthur was born in Dexter, NM in 1916, and lived on the family farm with his nine siblings. All his life he enjoyed the beauty of nature, hunting and fishing, and all types of sports activities. He had a green thumb and could grow anything in his garden. He attended New Mexico Normal University (now NM Highlands) on a basketball scholarship and was a starter in every game for four years. Upon college graduation, he entered the Army Air Corps as a flying cadet and soon after married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Jean Preston. They had two children and a loving marriage until her death in 2005. Wanda and Stoney enjoyed his 29-year career in the United States Air Force which included much travel and various assignments; he retired as a full Colonel in 1969 and came to live in Albuquerque. In retirement, he loved gardening, conversations with friends, and kept fit with walking several miles each day up until his death. He was dearly loved by family and friends and will not soon be forgotten. He is survived by two children: Donna Haggerty and husband, Robert of Albuquerque, and Stuart Stone and wife, Barbara of Santa Rosa, California; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred Stone, Lloyd Stone, and Clyde Stone all of Roswell, New Mexico. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held in Roswell at a later date. TAYLOR -- James V. Taylor Sr., 78, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on March 25, 2011 at home with his loving family at his side. Mr. Taylor is survived by his children, Mary M. Garris, James V. Taylor Jr. and wife, Patricia, Vivian M. Taylor, Robert N. Taylor and wife, Verlinda, June V. Baca and Jon Garcia, and Pamela D'Ornellas; his sister, Mary Lee Bentley and husband, Kermit; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members. VALOVCIN -- Anne Marie Skoba Valovcin, 90, passed away March 26, 2011 in Rio Rancho, NM where she resided since 1975. She was attended on her death bed by her son, John T. Valovcin; grandsons, Richard Koschade, Christopher Koschade and wife Suzy, and April Fleming. She is survived by her four children, Lorelei Koschade of Rio Rancho, Kenneth Valovcin of Columbia, SC, John T. Valovcin of Rio Rancho, and Claudia Baker of Flagstaff, AZ; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Anne was born and raised in Perth Amboy, NJ and graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1939. She married John Valovcin in 1944 and remained married for 62 years until he preceded her in death in 2006. Just three weeks prior to her death, her family hosted a mini-family reunion in Rio Rancho, at which she was delighted to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
