APODACA -- Leo Albert Apodaca 73, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951 was born on November 23, 1937 and passed away on January 15, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Apodaca. He is survived by his two sons, Rafael Apodaca and his wife Denise, Leo A. Apodaca Jr and his wife Victoria; four grandchildren, Rafael, Angelica, Teresa and Xavier. A Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at San Felipe de Neri Church. A Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at San Felipe de Neri Church. BACA -- Mike E. Baca, 90, a life long resident of Albuquerque, died on January 16, 2011. He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Laura Montoya Baca of Albuquerque; daughter Vivian Weidner and husband Gary of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Victor Sanchez and wife Crystal, Richard Sanchez and wife, Mary; great-grandchildren, Elias, Samantha, Alexis, Mike and Dezaray; He is also survived by a very special nephew, Michael Baca; and a very special niece, Gina Herrera; Also surviving is a step-daughter Yolanda Sanchez and husband, Mike; three step-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. Mr. Baca was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Luz Baca; brothers, Alonzo and Vincent Baca; his twin brother, Louis Baca; sisters, Vivian Torrez and Mary Garcia; and a step-son, Kaleb Weidner. Mike attended St. Mary's school in Albuquerque and retired from Albuquerque Public Schools. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army Air Force in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and the American Theatre. He received the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, January 20, 2011 at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, 2005 Plaza NW in Old Town. BENEFIELD -- Claoma Evelyn Benefield passed away on December 27, 2010 at the Kaiser Hospital in Modesto, CA at 88 years of age. She was a resident of Escalon, CA for the past eight years. She was born on October 26, 1922 in Liberty, MO to Cecil Raymond and Iola Delle McCollum. Claoma was preceded in death by her husband James H. Benefield Jr., her parents; her sister, Wilma Jean Dunn; and her brother, Mack Duane McCollum. She is survived by their adopted children, Dorothy Trumbull and John Benefield both of AK; and two grandchildren Jamie Benefield and J.J. Benefield also of AK; as well as a multitude of friends. Claoma was adored by her siblings, Naomi Furrow of Escalon, Irma Phillips of Monana, WI, Robert McCollum of Broomfield, CO, and Glenn McCollum of San Jose, CA, Clay and Jim moved to Albuquerque in 1978 and were active members of the Hoffmantown Baptist Church. A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Escalon. Her final resting place will be in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. BREWSTER -- Anita Catherine Brewster (Allen) was born on September 28, 1962 in Freeport, NY. Anita learned to groom dogs while living in Albuquerque, NM. In 1993 she and her family moved to Loveland, CO. There Anita owned Brewster's Bubbles, a grooming business. In 2008, she returned to Albuquerque, NM where she spent her final days. On January 13, 2011 she joined her mother Jane and father Richard in heaven. She is survived by her son Anthony; daughter Valerie; and their father Todd; by her siblings, Peg, Liz, and Rick; nieces, Jane and Jo, as well as many loving friends. CARRAHER -- Martin L. Carraher, 83, of Edgewood, NM passed away on January 15, 2011. Martin was born and raised in Spalding, NE. He joined the Coast Guard in 1945, and he served in WWII. After the war, he located to Peoria, IL where he learned and worked in the printing business. In 1959 Martin moved to Albuquerque, NM. He founded Vanguard Printing in 1975 and worked there until his retirement in 2005. Martin also owned and ran Singletree Thoroughbred Ranch in Edgewood, NM where he lived since 1984. Martin is survived by his wife, Shari Carraher of Edgewood, NM; son, David Carraher and daughter-in-law, Gina of Elephant Butte, NM; brother, Robert Carraher of Omaha, NE; sisters, Patricia (Reggie) Dobson of Cedar Rapids, NE and Kathy Eckland of St. Cloud, FL; granddaughter, Elizabeth Senzell of CA; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey (Phillips) Carraher; son, Martin Carraher, Jr.; daughter, Cheryl Carraher; brother, Thomas Carraher; and sisters, Alice Delancey, Rosemary Carraher and Bernadette Costello. CHAVEZ -- Emma M. Chavez, age 78, was born August 12, 1932 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 16, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Emma was an Ecumenical Minister and dedicated, long time member of San Ignacio Catholic Church where her active participation in the things of God included her being a member of the Choir, being a Religious Educator, a Fiesta Committee Member, Mayordomo, Parish Secretary, Party Coordinator, and member of the Rosary Group, just to name a few. As well, Eddie and Emma were recipients of the St. Francis of Assisi Award in 2007, presented by the Archbishop of Santa Fe. These were many of the things Emma was so proud of and what made her such a wonderful lady who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In December, Eddie and Emma celebrated 55 years of marriage. Emma graduated from St. Mary's, class of 1951. Her career in banking began at First National Bank in Albuquerque, as well as Bank of New Mexico, Bank West and Fidelity National Bank. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, needle craft, traveling and spending time with her family. Emma was preceded in death by her son Eugene "Gino" Chavez; her father, Roman Montoya; her mother, Theresa Montoya; sisters, Helen Cortez, Edwina Gomez and Marcella Duran and by her brother, Orlando "Reno" Montoya. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Eddie "Buddy" Chavez; daughter, Eileen A. Armijo and husband Adrian; sons, Eric A. Chavez and life partner, Bennie Pacheco, Edward A. Chavez and wife Sandra Sosa; brother, Elias "Toad" Montoya; sisters, Ellen J. Rico, Lillian Salazar and Priscilla Miller; many other family members and friends who will miss her greatly. Services will be held at San Ignacio Catholic Church, 1300 Walter NE., on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, beginning at 9:00 a.m., with burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. COLEMAN -- William B. Coleman, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Maxine V. Coleman. Bill is survived by his sons, William F. Coleman and wife, Susan of Placitas and Ronald E. Coleman of Truth or Consequences; grandchildren, Justin L. Coleman and wife, Jessica of Canadian, TX and Wendy M. Eggert and husband, Harold of Rio Rancho; great-grandchildren, Paisley, Levi, Cotton, Christa, Hailey, and Conner. CORNELL -- Christine Cornell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, born May 2, 1971, passed away January 15, 2011, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. She was 39. She is survived by her son, Christopher Cornell; her mom, Gloria Cornell; her dad, Dale Cornell; her sister, Connie Cornell; her nephew, Clinton Cornell; and her fiance, Chad Custer, and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. DOYLE -- Alice L. Doyle, 79, passed on to the loving arms of her Lord on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. DURAN -- Gloria Duran, age 72, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 16, 2011. Gloria was a loving and supportive wife, phenomenal mom, and awesome grandma. EKOFO -- Sokombe L. Ekofo, 66, resident of Albuquerque, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away surrounded by his family on January 16, 2011. Ekofo was born on November 10, 1944 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He began his studies in a Catholic Mission of Bokote where he excelled in every subject. The Catholic nuns who taught him knew he had a great gift. In the native African language he was thought of as a genius. Because of his great mind he was on track to become a priest and sent to seminary. He left the priesthood and attended the University of Kinshasa also known as Luvanium. From the European Union he received a scholarship to study in Parma, Italy. He spent five years in Italy before returning to his country and working for the government in many leadership capacities. After several years he received another scholarship from USAID to come to the United States to work on his PhD. in Economics at the University of New Mexico. After completing his masters in economics and achieving a Ph.D. "ABD" status he returned to his country for two years and worked as the chief scientific researcher and university professor. He returned to New Mexico and worked as professor of Economics at Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) and was later able to bring five of his 15 children to the U.S to live. Truly a citizen of the world, he spoke several languages including Latin, Greek, French, Italian, English and many African languages. He is survived by children and grandchildren of different nationalities residing in Belgium, Democratic Republic of Congo, Spain, South Africa, and America. His children are Angela Ekofo, Isabelle Ekofo, Yves Ekofo, Sonia Ekofo, Yvonne Ekofo, Patrick Ekofo, Virginie Ekofo, Emmanuel Ekofo, Huguette Ekofo, Reize Ekofo, Maurice Ekofo, Eric Ekofo, Joseph Ekofo, Delphia Wilson and husband Brent, and Rachelle Ekofo; He is also survived by his loving wife Daphne; the mother of his children, Marie-Josee Ekofo; and 23 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Ekofo Benkenya and Bombula Marie and his loving sisters Albertine Nkoso and Monitrice Lokoku. He was a lifelong resident of Carnuel, NM, last of the Crespin Garcia descendants of Domingo Garcia, who helped establish Carnuel and the Holy Child Church. JARAMILLO -- John Gilbert (Gil) Major USAF (Ret), 75, of Nokesville, VA died at Fauquier Hospital on Saturday, January 15, 2011 after a two year illness. He was born June 22, 1935 in Socorro, New Mexico, oldest son of Filbert and Julia Jaramillo. He retired in 1978 from the United States Air Force as a Major after over 20 years of service. Mr. Jaramillo graduated from the University of New Mexico with an Electrical Engineering Degree on an ROTC scholarship. After 20 years, serving as a missile engineer, he retired from the United States Air Farce as a Major. He also earned a Master's Degree in Systems Management from USC. He worked with Lockheed Martin on numerous Space Systems and eventually retired and traveled with his wife and spent time with his grandchildren. He was an avid LA Dodgers fan. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Anita Blackwood Jaramillo, his children; Natalie Jaramillo Ortberg (husband Kenneth) of Warrenton VA, Rebecca Louise Jaramillo of Fauquier County VA, John A. Jaramillo (wife Kathrun) of La Quinta, CA. He also leaves five sisters; Julianna Martinez of Albuquerque, NM, Priscilla Contreras of Albuquerque, NM, Isabel Wolfe of Phoenix AZ, Marie Fuentes of Albuquerque, NM and Patricia Jaramillo of Albuquerque, NM. Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Adam Jaramillo Ortberg, Katherine Lynn Fletcher, Duncan John McCullough, Amanda Helen McCullough and Sean A. Jaramillo. JOHNSON -- Wayne Milton, 61, of Lueders, Texas, passed away at Abilene Regional Medical Center on January 12, 2011. Born in Albuquerque on December 17, 1949 to Milton and Esther (Litts) Johnson (surviving), he spent most of his life in Albuq., graduating from Sandia High School in 1967. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Luci (Trujillo). Together they raised two sons, Travis and Erik (of Lueders,TX),who survive him; as does a granddaughter, Dilana; and a niece they raised, Julie; Also surviving are a sister, Janice Eells; and a brother, Rodger. Wayne loved hunting and catch-and-release fishing and was a master gunsmith who operated the Stamford Mercantile Gunshop. In his youth he served as a PFC. in the Marine Corp. He was known to many in the local construction industry as an outstanding drywaller and was a superior handyman, talents he put to use in building his and Luci's dream house with his own hands. Wayne was a true friend to many. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2011 at Gate of Heaven Chapel (Wyoming and Paseo Del Norte) with graveside service following.

KITCHENS -- Marvin L. Kitchens, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, went to Heaven on January 17, 2011. He was born on January 6, 1928 in McAllister Oklahoma to George Washington Kitchens and Lily May Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances on January 1, 2007. He also joined his grandson, Justin Kitchens in Heaven as well. He is survived by his sons, Steve Kitchens of Bosque Farms and Keith Kitchens of Albuquerque. Marvin also leaves behind a grandson, Carl Thoma of Encino, California; and a great-grandson Avren Lee of Ladonia, Texas. During his life, Marvin enjoyed hunting and fishing in New Mexico, was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Albuquerque and was a member of Hoffmantown Church for over fifty years. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, January 20, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at French - Lomas Chapel. LUCERO -- James E. Lucero was born on November 27, 1948 to Tino and Lena Lucero and passed away January 16, 2011. James loved his family dearly. James is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth (Liz) Lucero; his daughter Carole Lucero (daughter Tori); his son Michael (Mickey) Lucero (daughter Mikayla); his son Jimmy Lucero (daughter Brooklyn); and his daughter Melissa (Missy) and her husband R.V. MARTINEZ -- Candido M. Martinez - Formerly of La Villita, New Mexico was called to be with our Lord on January 17, 2011. He is survived by his sons, Derrick Martinez and Juan Martinez; daughters, Julia and Marvin Czerwonka, Jolynn and Rick Stout, Nora and Gerald Casaus, Carmen Martinez, Patty and Kenneth Gutierrez; brothers, Lee and Leo Martinez, Clyde and Roslind Martinez and sisters Angie Brennan, Helen and Louis Montoya. Candido loved his many grandchildren and great-grand children and had great fondness for Jordan Gutierrez. He will be remembered for his beautiful humor and patient manner. He will be greatly missed. MCANANY -- Mary "Rita" McAnany, age 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, was called home to Jesus on January 15, 2011. Rita is survived by her five daughters, Mary Randolph and husband Jeff of Omaha, NE, Maggie McKillip and her husband Jim of Albuquerque, Helen McAnany of Las Vegas, NV and friend Yvonne Randall, Maureen Duran and her husband Jerry of Omaha, NE, Berni Sivage and her husband Kevin of Albuquerque; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Bunnie Kizer and her husband Bill, Kitty Lomatch, Ed Reinhardt and his wife Pat, and Jim Reinhardt; many nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, "Red"; and her brother, John Reinhardt. Rita joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944 and served in Santa Barbara, CA. Rita learned the carpentry trade that she used throughout her life, making wooden toys and furniture for children, which she donated to various children's hospitals and charitable youth organizations. The rosary will be prayed on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 7:00, at French-Westside Chapel, with Deacon Steve Rangel officiating. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 20, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW, with Father John Daniel as Celebrant. NIELSEN -- Dorothy Nielsen, 89, passed away peacefully at Lovelace Westside Hospital on January 16, 2011. She was born on February 10, 1921 in Gretna Nebraska to Marvin and Myrtle Dotson. Dorothy married the love of her life, Vernon J. Nielsen on June 24, 1939, in Kimball Nebraska. They enjoyed 68 wonderful years together. Prior to retiring in 1976 and moving to Southern California, Dorothy and Vernon lived in Laramie, Wyoming for 30 years. After the passing of her beloved husband in 2007, Dorothy moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico with her daughter and son-in-law in 2008. She enjoyed the staff, friendship, arts, crafts and many activities and outings at Share Your Care in Rio Rancho, NM. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother, a talented seamstress and baker. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and family games. Dorothy is survived by her son Larry Nielsen and wife Nadine of Burlington, Massachusetts; daughter Diana Swanson and husband Don of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren Tina Donahue and husband Richard of Cathedral City, California, Natalee Bushen and husband Kirk of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, J.D. ROMERO -- ARTHUR "DINTY" ROMERO, Passed away peacefully on January 15, 2011 surrounded by his family at his home in Santa Fe. He was 92 and was born on June 26, 1918 in Las Vegas, NM to Don Ricardo and Gregorita Romero. Dinty loved his family first and foremost and is survived by his wife of 74 years, Ophelia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Michael; and daughter Patsy; brothers, Richard H. Romero and Louis Romero; and his sisters, Mary, Amy, Bell and Margie. Dinty inspired his family and others with his amazing work ethic, generosity, love for his family and commitment to his faith. He was also known for his broad smile and outgoing personality. He retired after 42 years with the United States Postal Service. He also retired in 1980 from the United States Naval Reserve as a Senior Chief Petty Officer for which he served on active duty in WWII. He served for more than four decades as a high school sports official for the New Mexico Activities Association for which he was inducted into the NMAA Officials Hall of Fame in 1989. He officiated games and championship games at various high school football fields and gymnasiums as well as UNM's Johnson Gym and "The PIT." He will be forever memorialized at The PIT as the officials locker room will be named in his honor. Dinty was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox and loyal fan of the University of Norte Dame and the University of New Mexico. Dinty and Ophelia raised their six children and also cared for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie of Santa Fe, Thelma Hoessler and husband Ed of Santa Fe; sons, Richard and wife Joanne of Rio Rancho, Nestor and wife Angela of Albuquerque; his granddaughter who was truly a daughter to him, Roberta Ortiz, and her husband, Andy, of Farmington; He is also survived by granddaughters, Monica Leyba (Jerry) of California, Lisa Kerwin (Garrett) of Albuquerque, Amanda Ortiz of Farmington, Loretta Cowen (Henry) of Austin, TX, grandsons, RJ and Eric of Rio Rancho, Quinn and Liam of Albuquerque, Mickey (Silvia) of Colorado and Greg of Santa Fe; and great-grandchildren Noah, Avery, Riley, River, Alix, and his sister Corrine Armijo of Las Vegas NM, brothers Leo(Dora) of California, Bobby of Chicago and Francis (Martha) of Chicago; His is also survived by many nieces and nephews. RUDOLPH -- Armond and Dorothy Rudolph Armond Rudolph, 93, died on January 13, 2011 followed by the death of Dorothy Rudolph, 90, on January 14, 2011. Married in 1941, they moved from Michigan in 1949 to live in the Albuquerque area. They were long time active members of the Presbyterian Church and enjoyed family, camping and gardening. Armond was a lithographer and volunteered as a fireman, with boy scouts, and jail ministry. Dorothy was a homemaker, volunteered in scouting, and enjoyed crafts. They are survived by son, Neil Rudolph (Elise); and daughter Elaine Spence (Ken); four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Armond is also survived by sister, Dorethea Koch and brother; Elmer Rudolph. The family suggests family and friends observe a brief time of remembrance at 10:00 a.m., on January 22, 2011. TRUJILLO -- Dr. Ronald J. Trujillo, 58, of Albuquerque, passed away on January 15, 2011 from complications of pneumonia. He was a caring and wonderful husband who will be missed dearly by his wife. He was a beloved father who loved teaching his children gardening, playing cards, telling stories, teaching life lessons to his son and daughters, and singing to his children and grandchildren. He loved having adventures with his children and grandchildren, always patient, accepting, and kind-spoken He also was a caring brother who gently gave advice and unconditional love to his three sisters. He was a gifted athlete who played baseball in high school. Lastly he was a well-known, beloved pediatrician who loved children and showed warmth and kindness to his patients and their families. He was preceded in death by his father Seferino Trujillo of Los Alamos. He is survived by his mother Geneva Trujillo of Los Alamos; wife of 19 years Tama Trujillo of Albuquerque; son and daughters: Ryan Trujillo, Christina Trujillo and Amanda Trujillo all of Albuquerque; grandchildren: Taylor, Angelise, Hannah, Hoah, Alyssa, and Darian; sisters: Lois Davis of Los Angels, Joyce and husband Dough Langston of Salt Lake City, and Jeanette and husband Chip (James H.) Lilienthal of Santa Fe; and many other relatives; friends; and colleagues. TSIOSDIA -- Martin, a resident of the Village of Paguate, Pueblo of Laguna, passed away January 15, 2011 after a brief illness. He was born on July 12, 1913 and was 97 years old. He is survived by daughter Irma; and son Warren both of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie; sons, Roy and Robert; and daughter Martha. Martin worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a teacher at the Fort Wingate High School and retired in 1968. He served in the United States Marine Corps in 1945 during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening. Graveside funeral service and burial will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the Village of Paguate cemetary on the Pueblo of Laguna Indian Reservation.
