Claoma Evelyn Benefield passed away on December 27, 2010 at the Kaiser Hospital in Modesto, CA at 88 years of age. She was a resident of Escalon, CA for the past eight years. She was born on October 26, 1922 in Liberty, MO to Cecil Raymond and Iola Delle McCollum. Claoma was preceded in death by her husband James H. Benefield Jr., her parents; her sister, Wilma Jean Dunn; and her brother, Mack Duane McCollum. She is survived by their adopted children, Dorothy Trumbull and John Benefield both of AK; and two grandchildren Jamie Benefield and J.J. Benefield also of AK; as well as a multitude of friends. Claoma was adored by her siblings, Naomi Furrow of Escalon, Irma Phillips of Monana, WI, Robert McCollum of Broomfield, CO, and Glenn McCollum of San Jose, CA, Clay and Jim moved to Albuquerque in 1978 and were active members of the Hoffmantown Baptist Church. A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Escalon. Her final resting place will be in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
