ARCHULETA -- Lisa Ann Archuleta age 43, born on May 15, 1967 in Fort Sumner, NM passed away unexpectedly on November 12, 2010. Lisa was the daughter of Joe and Tina Archuleta. She was loved and cherished by her parents, children, sisters and many family and friends. She graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1985 and went on be certified as a Dental Assistant. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Simon and Antonia Archuleta, Augustine and Eliza Casaus; aunt, Mary; and uncle, Leo Jiron. She is survived by her children, Patrick, Alisha and Isaiah who loved her unconditionally; her parents, Joe and Tina Archuleta; sisters, Therese Chaparro (Osman), Christina Givens (John), Michelle Martinez (Ben); Godparents, Procopio Casaus and Mary Alice Casaus; aunts, Rebecca Blea, Ann Casaus, Corrine Casaus, and Mary Casaus; uncles, Felix Casaus, Augustine Casaus Jr., Albert Casaus, Martin Blea; a special friend, Jerry Pacheco. Mike and Tina Pacheco and many nephews, nieces and cousins. She will be missed by all. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Martinez, Ramon Chaparro, Andrew Givens, Ernesto Najera, Matthew Romero and Tim Herrera. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Martinez, Aaron Chaparro, Miranda Small, Jessica Givens, Jerry Pacheco and Allen Soveranez. A visitation will be held at 6:00 pm at McGee Memorial Chapel in Santa Fe followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. BENAVIDEZ -- Josefita C. Benavidez (Nana) was born December 30, 1922 in Lemitar, NM and passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 87. She is preceded in death by her husband, Boleslo P. Benavidez; and her son, James. J. Benavidez. She is survived by her brother, Seferino Chavez; sister, Patsy Humphrey; daughters, Jennie Sanchez, Lillie Jaramillo and husband, Paul Jaramillo, and Dorothy Benavidez; 15 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; and 15 great- great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved and will miss her. Josefita was an active member of the Catholic Charismatic Center. Josefita's family extends a special thank you to Vista Care Hospice, especially Deborah, Alicia, and the staff that took such good care of her. CORDOVA -- Victor W. Cordova, age 80, beloved father and grandfather, passed away Friday, November 12, 2010. He was born on July 4, 1930 and was a life long resident of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evangeline Cordova. Victor is survived by his loving children, Patricia Dreger and husband Michael, Marie Lowe, Christine Bradley and husband Joseph, Anthony Cordova and Rebecca La Rosa; a special son, Christopher Archuleta; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many friends. Victor graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1949 and served in the United States Army for two years. He retired from the US Postal Service after 33 years of service. ESCUDERO -- Leonor Escudero, 83, a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1968 went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 13, 2010. Mrs. Escudero was born on August 27, 1927. She was preceded in death by her husband, Valente Escudero; daughter, Socorro Carbajal; and three grandchildren. Mrs. Escudero is survived by her ten children, Yolanda Escudero, Val Escudero and wife, Lorraine, Jessie Escudero, Tillie Soto and fiance, Hal Tuttle, Candie Guerrero and husband, Ramon, Max Escudero and wife, Velma, Lisa Martinez and husband Valente, Ralph Escudero, Rose Escudero, and Eva Marie Escudero; brothers, Rafael and Manuel Dominguez, and sister-in-law, Salome Alvarez; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Leonor is blessed to have enjoyed four generations of her legacy. She has 34 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. FREEZE -- Billie Jane, age 84, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 13, 2010. A resident of Montgomery since 2005, she was previously a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico for 48 years. Billie was preceded in death by her dear husband of 60 years, Leonard Ondell Freeze,. She is survived by her loving children, son Terry Freeze, wife Dawn, of Albuquerque, NM; and her daughter, Cindy Richardson, husband Mark, of Montgomery, AL; three grandsons, Brent Freeze, wife Dolores, of Albuquerque, Andrew Richardson, wife Mallory, of Birmingham, AL and Stephen Richardson, currently attending Auburn University; two great-grandchildren, Cade and Macy Freeze, son and daughter of Brent and Dolores Freeze. GARCIA -- Anthony Thomas Garcia, born July 19, 1960, left this earth on November 11, 2010, and is now resting in peace. He was a beloved son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. He is survived by his parents, Benny M. Garcia, and Anna M. Garcia. He is also survived by his companion, Sylvia Cruz Garcia, and their children, Francisco Velazquez and wife Lisa Hueso-Velazquez, Cassandra S. Garcia and fiance Jonathan Murillo, Jonathan B. Garcia, and Felicia Sanchez. He had three siblings, Angela T. (Garcia) Ortiz and, husband, Rico I. Ortiz, Alisa M. (Garcia) Valdez and, husband, Dennis R. Valdez, and Andrew B. Garcia and, wife, Juanita C. Garcia. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Miquela Ortiz, Eric Valdez, Marisa Ortiz, Isaac Valdez, Alicia Vigil, Isabella Garcia, and Andres Garcia. Lastly, he is survived by the apple of his eye, his grandson, Nathan Anthony Murillo. Anthony lived an incredible life and was a hero to many. He served in the United States Navy for more than 24 years and was honored for his duty in Desert Storm when he received the Adm. C. V. Ricketts Award for Navy Man of the Year in 1992. Though he proudly and bravely served in many locations around the world, including Iraq, and Afghanistan, he always looked forward to returning home to Albuquerque to be near his family. He was enjoying his retirement when his untimely departure from this earth occurred. He was an incredibly strong and athletic individual (he once ran in the San Diego, California marathon). He was generous beyond measure. He was a creative writer and wrote a few articles which were published in the Albuquerque Journal. He also volunteered time, which he loved and was well regarded for his work with the Democratic Party of NM. He will be greatly missed and the fond memories of him will be cherished. GRIEGO -- Ponciana Griego, 93 a resident of Lake Sumner, NM and a former resident of Vaughn, NM died Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Lake Sumner with her family at the bedside. She was born December 21, 1916 in Anton Chico, NM to the home of Cliodo and Dolores (Gallegos) Garcia. She attended school at Vaughn, NM. Ponciana married Nick Griego on August 16, 1937 at Willard, NM. She was a business owner with her husband Nick, they owned Tru-Way Gas and Grocery Store and Motel. Her Hobbies included Sewing, Crocheting and going to the Casino. Ponciana is preceded in death by her husband Nick Griego; her parents; a brother Livorio Garcia; three sisters Emilia Crespin, Abrana Madrid and Eloisa Sanchez. Survivors include two daughters Bertha Griego and Tucker of Rockport, TX , Mary Sena and husband Gene of Lake Sumner, NM; three sons Nick Griego and his wife Connie of Albuquerque, NM, George (Budddy) Griego of Albuquerque, NM and Ray Griego and his wife Janice of Austin, TX; a sister Viola Vigil and husband Tony of Albuquerque, NM and two brothers Billy Garcia and his wife Doris of Albuquerque, NM and Robert Garcia. and his wife Zenida of Albuquerque, NM. HREN -- E. Roger Hren, 73, went to Heaven to be with his Lord on Monday, November 15, 2010. Roger came to Albuquerque in 1965 to be a dentist with La Mesa Medical Center after serving in the US Air Force as a dentist. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie; two daughters, Kimberly Smith and her husband Jonathan, and Jenny Hudgens and husband James; three grandchildren, Austin, Reed and Tori Hudgens; sister, Erlene Seay and husband Glenn, and their children, Tim, Cindy and Jeff and his wife Jacque Seay. Roger was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapshooting, skeet shooting, gardening and wood carving. In addition to hunting, he raised ducks, quail and Canada geese. He built and flew remote controlled planes. Service will be Thursday, November 18, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution Ave. NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. JATERKA -- Rosie, the energetic woman whom everyone knew as just Rosie, died at home with her daughter on November 13, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rosie was born in Van Houten, New Mexico, in 1923 to Italian Immigrant parents and was raised on the family farm in Eagle Nest, New Mexico. At 16 she met and married the only love of her life, Carlo Jaterka. With 22 dollars in their pockets the young couple moved to Dawson, New Mexico where Carlo worked in the coal mines. At eighteen Rosie gave birth to their only child, Carol Anne. Relatives used to say that the young family grew up together. In 1949, the Dawson Mines closed and the family moved to Raton, New Mexico, where they lived until they moved to Albuquerque in 1988 to be close to their daughter. After Carlo died in 1999, Rosie, a devout Catholic, became active in church work at Risen Savior Parrish. She also continued to bake her famous "Rosie goodies" for family and friends. She loved her frequent trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii with her daughter, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys, Duke Blue Devils and Atlanta Braves fan. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Carlo Jaterka; parents, Pete and Angelina Andreoli; brothers, Bernard, Guido, John and Elliot Andreoli; sisters, Anne Bergamo and Edith Ritt. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Jaterka Piper; Goddaughter, Catherine Bergamo Svaldi; brother, Sam Andreoli; sisters, Elena Cherubini and Katherine Haner; sister-in-law, Gina Andreoli and many nieces, especially Celeste Cherubini who always helped; many nephews, and many friends. She will be missed. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., at French ~ Wyoming Chapel. TILLEY -- Garland P. Tilley, 76, of Los Lunas passed away November 13, 2010. Garland was born in Pineville, West Virginia on March 31, 1934. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Gwendola Tilley, his two daughters, Karen Marberry and husband Phillip; Kathy Tilley. He is also survived by his sister, Willa Faye Pruitt and husband Jack of High Point, North Carolina, his brother Riley Tilley and wife Irene of Chesterfield, Virginia; his sisters Thelma Brooks and Lucy Halsey both of West Virginia. Garland was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren; Melissa and husband Scott Profitt, Jennifer Marberry and friend Garrett Johnson, Matthew Grindell, Jessica Grindell, Sarah Grindell and Emily Grindell. Garland was also a great-grandfather to Angelica and Samantha. He is survived by his nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his Mother Lula Tilley,his Father William Riley Tilley and infant grandson Marberry. Garland was active in his community and was a member of First Baptist Church of Los Chavez, Bethelehem Lodge #56 and Hillsville Lodge #193 AF&AM. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite as well as Jessamine #45 OES. He proudly and faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force for over twenty years. WEST -- CLARENCE R. "WOODY" WEST, 91, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010. Woody was born in Baird, Texas on August 6, 1919 to Clarence B. and Ada Eyley West. He was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Edwards E. Thomas and sister, Vivian Warren. He graduated from the University of Texas/Austin in 1943. After graduation, Woody worked at B.F. Goodrich and Ozark Ordinance before coming to Los Alamos in 1946. He retired in 1980 after 34 years of service with the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Woody enjoyed the out-of-doors in many ways. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, birdwatcher and golfer. He learned to ski in Los Alamos and served on the Ski Patrol for several years. Woody was a charter member of the Sangre de Cristo Audubon Society and state president of the New Mexico Audubon Council. Woody had a gift for telling a good story. He entertained many people through his involvement with Dale Carnegie and the Los Alamos Toastmasters. He also pleased the crowd at the State Fair when demonstrating his skills with the Southwestern Artisan Blacksmith Association. Mr. West is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beula (Bo) West, daughter, Nancy Manierre and husband George of Corrales and granddaughters, Caroline and Johanna Manierre. Cremation is being planned. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos with Father Collin Kelly officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Randall Davey Audubon Center or Friends of Bandelier.
