CRISTO -- George S. Cristo, 63, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 29, 2010 surrounded by his family. George was born in Deming, NM, December 22, 1946. He is survived by his wife Georgianne Cristo; his three children Alexis, Briana and Joseph; and his siblings Ruth, Phillip and Steven. He was preceded in death by his mother Tabita Cristo; and father George Cristo Sr. George served in the Submarine Service of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of New Mexico State University and worked at Bueno Foods in Albuquerque. He loved fishing, wood working and working on his 1968 Camaro. GRACE -- Carl Grace, 90, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 2, 2010. He passed away peacefully at his home with his long time sweetheart near his side. Carl was born in 1919 in St. Joseph, MO and was one of four kids. He married Jean Grace in 1938, whom he met on a blind date in 1935. After nearly 72 years of marriage he loved her as much with his last breath as he did the first time they met. Carl served proudly in the US Navy during WWII, was a magistrate judge in Illinois and retired from the US Forestry Service in Albuquerque. He was known by his family as "Paw" and loved by everyone who came in contact with him. He loved the Lord, adored his family and lived every day serving others. He is survived by his wife, Jean Grace; his eldest daughter, Bonnie Carter; his youngest daughter, Linda Lester and his son-in-law Phil Lester. He has four grandkids; and seven great- grandchildren all whom he loved dearly. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Solar Villa Apartments - 1135 Texas St. NE.

HARMON -- Vesta Harmon, 87, passed away May 5, 2010. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Jo Hogland and husband Drue, Brenda Kay "Katie" Harmon; son, Larry E. Harmon and wife Juanita; seven grandchildren, Marty Herrera and wife Gia, Scott Harmon and wife Lisa, Jeffrey Harmon and wife Beverly, Tiffany Amber Newman, Jason Wickham, Misty Dawn Fornwalt and husband Todd, Laura Beth Harmon; She was also survived by her great-grandchildren, Brian, Carise, Krista, Jon, Brandon, Kalena, Ashley, Teresa, Sheyla, Breanna, Jacob, Brooke and numerous other family and friends. Vesta was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Malinda Pemberton; husband of 48 years Thomas Edward Harmon in 1988; grandson Christopher Patrick Herrera in 1996; and all her 12 siblings. Mrs. Harmon was a faithful and loving wife and mother and will be dearly missed. She and her husband were longtime members of First Christian Church. HOPKINS -- Truman Rhea Hopkins went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. Truman was born July 30, 1929 in Gladewater, Texas to Johnnie Henry Nathan and Rosa Etta Hopkins. He married Noma Lee Nuckols, the love of his life, on September 1, 1947 in Weatherford, Texas. Truman served twenty years in the Air Force and retired as a Master Sergeant. Following his retirement with the U.S. Air Force, he worked at UNM and was instrumental in starting the EMT program throughout the state of New Mexico. He then went on to work at the VA Hospital and retired from the VA in 1994. He continued to volunteer two days a week at the VA Hospital up until the time of his death at age 80. Truman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Noma; and two daughters, Cheryl Vineyard and her husband Mike, and Jan Robbins and her husband David; nine grandchildren: Doug Vineyard and wife Lisa, Chris Martin, Jeff Martin, Steffanie Lafors and husband Peter, Jason Gilbert, Matt Robbins and wife Melanie, Nicholas Robbins, Amber Vineyard, and Elizabeth Robbins; six great-grandchildren: Alex, Zach, and Cody Vineyard, Logan and Sofie Lafors, and Christian Gilbert; He is also survived by his brother Larry Hopkins; and sister Beulah Roberts. Truman was preceded in death by his parents; brother Wallace Hopkins; sisters Bernice Adams and Virginia Bess; daughter Judy Lynne Gilbert; and granddaughter Denise Vineyard. Truman served as a deacon at Sandia Baptist Church for more than 25 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will be greatly missed. RATHGEBER SCHWARTZMAN -- Gertrude (Gertie) passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque. Gertie was born in Albuquerque in 1922. She was preceeded in death by both of her husbands Alfred L. Schwartzman and William D. Rathgeber; her son Alfred Schwartzman Jr.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James R. Dotson; her granddaughter Lesley Garringer; her sisters, Dorothy Magatagan and Mabel Baggett; her brothers, James Ralph Dotson Jr. and William S. Dotson. She is survived by her son Gary Schwartzman and his wife Sherrell; her brother Phillip P. Dotson and wife Marilyn of Ponca City, Oklahoma; her step-sons and step-daughter Lt. Col. William Rathgeber (Ret) and wife Cathy, and Col. David Rathgeber (Ret) and his wife Insuk, Col. Susan Voveris (Ret) and husband Lt. Col B.J. Voveris. (Ret); She is also survived her grandchildren, Maj. J. SHELTON -- Brooke Nicole Shelton of Edgewood, NM, went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 4, 2010 at the age of 28. Brooke was born in Ruidoso, NM, on October 5, 1981, attended La Cueva High School, received a teaching degree from UNM and married the love of her life, Jason Shelton. Brooke was a faithful servant to her Lord Jesus Christ and was a blessing to all who knew her. She was a wonderful wife and an awesome mother. Brooke home-schooled her children and taught them to love the Lord. Her enjoyment for life and beautiful smile was contagious. Brooke's strength, courage, and determination were an amazing example of a life lived through Christ. She will be greatly missed, but her spirit will live on through her four beautiful children. We know Brooke is smiling over us and she is forever in our hearts, until we meet her again. He is survived by his twin brother Ronnie Soveranez (Angie); brothers, Oswaldo (Josephine), Elias, Robert; sister Jospehine; aunts, Bennie Naquin, Christine McLean (Bob); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and Partner of twenty-three years Ron Montoya. Don was a caring and loving person who was always there for anyone, anytime. He loved spending time with family and friends. Don will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. STERCHI -- Louise Larson Sterchi, 84, passed away May 1, 2010. Born in Tucson, AZ, on September 27, 1925, she grew up in Silver City, NM, and was a resident of Albuquerque since 1965. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and sister Ruth Merz. She is survived by her daughter Arline Worsham and her husband John of Houston, TX; her son Ken Sterchi of Las Vegas, NV; her daughter Margaret Sterchi of Blackwood, NJ; her son William Sterchi and his wife Rose of Albuquerque; her son Robert Sterchi and his wife Jule of Ruidoso; and granddaughters Anna Worsham of Fayetteville, AR and Shannon Eghlimi and her husband Cameron of Phoenix, AZ and their sons Sean and Ryan; she is also survived by her sister Inez Candiello; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her gracious, kind nature, her unflagging, positive outlook and of course, her radiant, joyful smile were lifelong gestures of love to her family, her friends and indeed everyone she ever met. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano Road NW in Albuquerque. STONE -- Brian Ray Stone, (Stoney) (aka Mr. Field and Stream), a native Texas was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was born in Macon County on November 12, 1934 and descended into the presence of the Lord on May 5, 2010. He ran the roads from Tahoka, TX. to Levelland, TX., back in the 50's. This was his hay day. He was a cotton farmer well into the 60's, had a great career with Farm Bureau Insurance before he retired as a Yellow Freight Driver. Brian was preceded in death by his mother Dona Tuckness Stone; and son, Jason Keith Stone. Brian is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Doris Stone; sister, Judy Carole Shearer; and brother, Stanley Stone. He was first a "born again" Christian then a beloved father to his son David Stone, wife Susie, daughters Carissa and Dawn; his son Daniel Stone, wife Holly, daughter Erin, son Daniel, great-grandson Kyah; stepson, Brent Stroman, wife Brenda, daughter Kourtney and son Kris. Brians parting words "I rode my last horse" may hold true for the time he spent here on this earth, but as the book of Revelations (19:11-19) tells us "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war......And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.....And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS". WINTERMUTE -- Dorothy Ann, 79, completed her earthly journey on April 30, 2010. Our beloved Mom, Lady, Ms. Dorothy, Auntie Doe, Grammie, Aunt Dot, "Gaga" was born October 4, 1930 in Denver, CO to Roy and Mary Beard Riedl. She is survived by her children, David Wintermute and wife Margi, Leta Babb and husband Mike Ondrik, Richard Wintermute, Barbara Wintermute, Timothy Wintermute and wife Pamela, Jeanne Oselio and husband Mike and "adopted" son, James Lueras. Her husband of 52 years, Forest "Gene" Wintermute; and their son, Jimmy Wintermute, preceded her in death as well as six sisters; and two brothers. She had 15 grandchildren, Melissa Covel and husband Troy, Joshua Wintermute and wife Rachael, Samantha Wintermute, Jason Babb, Dr. Amy Babb and husband Marc Steinberg, David Ondrik and wife Becky Holtzman, Dr. Richard Wintermute, Jesse Wintermute, Sarah Wintermute, Rylan Pyy, Chas Dyer and husband Wes, Stephanie Wintermute, Marshall Wintermute, Tiffany Medford and husband Ryan and Cherise Oselio; nine great-grandchildren, Jayson, Ryanne, Ronnie, Christian, Jadon, Landon, Jacob, Nolan and Genesis. She was also survived by her brother Ron Riedl and wife Gloria, Mike Riedl and wife Kelly, Sharon Mitchell and husband Mitch, sisters Linda and Shan and Uncle Willard. She has many nieces and nephews and a large extended family of friends. She was a member of Believers Center of Albuquerque since 1981. Dorothy deeply loved her family and friends and most of all, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a great servant of the Lord, generous, unselfish in every way and loved every person she met; she will be greatly missed. A service celebrating her life will be on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Believers Center of Albuquerque, 320 Waterfall SE. Graveside service will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7500 Paseo del Norte NE.
