SIMMS -- Charles T. Simms, Sr., died Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Albuquerque, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Tularosa, NM, on February 27, 1924 to Donald and Lucille Simms. He is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Ruth; his son, Charles T. (Tom) Simms, Jr., D.D.S. and wife, Mary Lou, Tom's children, Tom and Jennifer and their mother, Sharron Pulliam; son, Steven R. Simms and wife, Gail and their son, Jason; son, John P. Simms and wife, Alice and their children, John Brian and his wife, Ana and Jeffrey; daughter, Mary E. Slemp and husband, Larry and their children, Melissa and Matthew; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) King; brother, Donald C. Simms, Jr. and his dear friend and hunting and fishing buddy, Jack Nieman. Charles grew up in Tularosa, where he was a standout tennis and basketball player in high school and worked in his father's drug store. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his proud service to his country in the Army during World War II and Korea. He was part of the first graduating class from the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy in 1949. After the war he and his father opened and operated Simms Drug Store in Albuquerque's North Valley until 1975. He later opened and operated Simms Drug Store in Rio Rancho. He finished his career as a pharmacist working for Smith's in his beloved North Valley until 1987. He was very proud of the many years of compassionate and caring service he provided to his customers, many of whom he considered to be his friends. He was also very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was an avid and skillful fly-fisherman and hunter. He loved reminiscing about his many fishing and hunting adventures with family and friends and, with a twinkle in his eye, teasing everyone around him. A very important part of his life was his 55-year membership, love and support of Harwood United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and, on occasion, would deliver the Sunday message. Memorial services will be held Monday, May 5, 2008, 11:00 a.m., at Harwood United Methodist Church, 420 San Lorenzo, NW. Private interment of his cremated remains will take place on a later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery. VALADEZ -- Jose Carlos Valadez, Jr., 28, of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2008. He was born November 16, 1979 to Carlos and Maribel Valadez. He was born in El Paso, and moved to Albuquerque at a young age. He was a proud graduate of Sandia High School and Member of the United States Marine Corp. He was a loving son, brother, father, husband and friend; he was charismatic and had a great sense of humor. He is survived by his two beautiful daughters, Isabella Jasmine and Ariel Nevaeh, his parents Carlos and Maribel, sister Ilynn and brother Marco. His service will be held at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE at 1:00 pm Sunday, May 4, 2008. Funeral Mass will be at 7:30 am Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. WALTERS -- Robert Carlton Walters, 82, a longtime resident of Albuquerque passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 in his home. He is survived by his wife, Billie Walters; children, Leigh Walters, Kurt Walters and partner, Janice Sebesta, Stella Krauss and husband, Rick of Albuquerque, Toby Walters and wife, Alison of Los Alamos; extended family Rosie Walters of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Robert was a noted artist and architect. His abstract expressionistic paintings and sculpture reside in national and international collections as well as the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He worked in the private sector as an architect and publicly as a teacher retiring as Professor Emeritus from the School of Architecture at the University of New Mexico. His passion and love for art kept him in his studio daily. Robert is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A private Celebration of his inspirational life will be held at a later date. WILLIAMS -- Freddie Lee Williams passed away at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque on Saturday, May 3, 2008. He is survived by his five children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Williams has lived in Albuquerque since 1943 and is a USAF Veteran. He was a mechanic and a musician. ZANONI -- Pete Leo Zanoni, 87, a resident of Albuquerque died Wednesday, April 30, 2008. He is survived by his sons, Mark R. Zanoni of Albuquerque and Peter D. Zanoni and wife Mona of Lees Summit, MO; daughter, Jeanenne Massey and husband John of Tijeras, NM; grandchildren, Anne Bouckley and husband Ray of Dripping Springs, TX, Ben Massey of Ventura, CA, and David Zanoni of Lees Summit, MO; and one great-granddaughter, Sarah Bouckley. Pete was born on September 8, 1920 in Trinidad, CO and was a graduate of the University of Texas. He served his country during WWII as a 1stLT in the Army Air Corps as a Bombardier on a B-24 Liberator. He flew during D-Day and 35 other combat missions for which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Pete loved to play golf, tennis, and most other sports. He loved spending time with his family and although he was never a big conversationalist, what he said spoke volumes. Pete was a good listener and a loving compassionate man who his family said was the greatest man they ever knew. Services will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at French Mortuary - Lomas Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors. ADAMS -- Former New Mexico State Auditor, Harroll H. Adams, died Monday, May 5, 2008, of end stage renal failure. Adams served as State Auditor from 1987 to 1991. Adams was born on July 15, 1925 in Travis, Texas. Harroll is survived by his wife, Ruth Adams, former Albuquerque City Councilor. His daughter, Mary Adams Oleksak, her husband, Mike Oleksak, and their two sons, Sam and David, live in Boston, MA. His other daughter, Liz Adams and her husband, Charles Leonard, and children, Katie and Adam, live in Denver, CO. ARCHIBEQUE -- Albert "Bert" M. Archibeque, age 38, beloved husband, father, son, and brother, passed away peacefully, Friday, May 2, 2008. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, and a former employee of Intel. Albert was known for his loving and caring nature, and a very ambitious person. Albert is survived by his loving wife of seven years, Eleanor; his precious daughters, Amanda and Deanna; his loving parents, Alex and Carmen Archibeque; his sisters, Rita Zamora and husband David Jr., and Isabel Baldonado and husband Robert; and a brother, Anthony Archibeque and wife Lorraine. Also surviving are his nephews, David III, Boston, and Julian Camden; his nieces,Octavia, Daniella and husband Jimmy, and Alicia; his mother-in-law, Mary Boyd; sister-in-law, Elaine Vicenti and husband Garry; and many other beloved relatives and friends. Albert will be deeply and forever missed by everyone. BERGS -- Agnes Bergs, 76, of Albuquerque, was born in Colby, Wisconsin on November 21, 1931, and passed away on May 3, 2008. She was an extraordinary wife, mom, and grandma. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Victor; her children, Michael Bergs, Daniel Bergs and wife, Anita, Karen Ledezma and husband, Art, and Kathy Bergs and partner, Debbie; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Chris, Jenn, Carrie, Brandie, and David; one great-granddaughter, Madeline; one brother; and four sisters. DEPEW -- Mina Johansen DePew passed away April 26, 2008, at Monzano del Sol in Albuquerque. Born in Cherokee, IA July 19, 1918, to Fred Johansen and Isa Lighthall, she grew up in Clarinda, IA with her younger sister, Kathrine. She graduated from the University of Iowa and married Reo DePew of Clarinda May 31, 1940. In Dayton, OH July, 1944 she gave birth to a son, Jon; and in Baltimore, MD July, 1948, a son, Ren. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1949 when Reo began his career at Sandia National Laboratory. Mina, a full time mother and housewife, was an active member of PEO and the First Congregational Church. Her creative talents drew her to handy crafts and playing in Bell Choir. Mina was preceded in death by Reo in July 1990, and is survived by sons Jon DePew of Pasadena, CA, Ren DePew of Tijeras, NM, niece Karen Hurley-Watkins of Fairfield, CA And Nephew Steven Richardson, M.D., of Coos Bay, OR. A memorial service will take place at the First Congregational Church, 2801 Lomas Blvd. N.E. on May 7 at 3:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Cotty College, 1000 W. FATKIN -- Alan Fatkin, 54, a resident in the East Mountains died on April 30, 2008. He is survived by his spouse, Lynne, and his children, David and Katie, of Michigan. Al was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and sister. Al's many accomplishments include being a longtime employee of Skidmore Pumps and volunteering for the Bridgman and Watervliet Fire Departments in Michigan where he earned the status of Second Lieutenant. In 2003, he moved to Hawaii to live in paradise. A year later, he came to New Mexico and found his calling by raising alpacas in the East Mountains. Al's many interests included working outside, riding his motorcycle, sitting on the beach, watching the sunset, being with his alpacas, NASCAR, and helping his family, neighbors and friends whenever needed. Al was respected and loved by those around him. Friends and family may visit Wednesday, May 7, 2008, from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
