ALLEN -- Dorothy "Chick" Mae (Higgins) Allen, 99, was escorted by angels to meet her Lord and Savior on April 28, 2008. She will be reunited with her beloved husband of 77 years, Pickens "Pick" E. Allen, who preceded her in death October 2005, her loving daughter, Dale (Allen) Sanford and her husband, Charles; and many other family members waiting for her in heaven. A Celebration of her life with us and her life now with God will be Saturday, May 3, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Merkel, TX with Reverend Donny Harber officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel. Chick was born September 21, 1908, in Merkel, TX to Joseph Kincaid and Margaret Brown Higgins. She was one of eight children and the last to leave her beloved family and friends. She was very proud of the fact that she graduated from Merkel High School with a perfect attendance record. Chick enjoyed 99 years with family and friends. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as a compassionate person who was always willing to help her family, friends, and guests. Her door was always open, her kitchen full of good food for all, her heart went into everything she did, and she was an inspiration to all who met her. She was a wonderful seamstress and an avid quilter, designing and making numerous clothing items and quilts for family and friends. Chick lived in Albuquerque for the past five years at Garland House, under the loving care and compassion of the staff. She previously lived in Ruidoso, NM for 34 years after she and Pick retired from Los Alamos, NM. Chick managed the Speer's Dept. Store in Los Alamos and Pick worked as a fireman for AEC. While in Ruidoso, Chick volunteered with the Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and helped start the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. Survivors include her son, Jerry Allen and wife, Phyllis, of Corrales, NM; daughter, Nancy Hutto and husband, Joe, of Tularosa, NM; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Marka and David Otoski, Lisa and Jerry Watkins, Russell and Vangie Sanford, Bridget and Tom Swahlen, Paul and Kelli Allen, Scott and Julie Allen, George Hutto, Joy and Robert Baca, Larry and Rachelle Luna, Leroy Luna; 21 great-grandchildren and their spouses, Brandi Baca Zimmerman and Tucker, Jared Otoski and Jessica, Lindsey Otoski Curtis and Jason, Robert Joseph Baca, Jason Swahlen, Taylor Allen and Julia, Griffin Watkins, Chad Otoski, Salomon Baca, Jessica Watkins, Kevin Swahlen, Matthew Sanford, Sarah Sanford, Lisa Luna, Leigh Luna, Katelyn Otoski, Glynna Luna, Michael Swahlen, Jaymi Allen, Kaysi Allen and Dalton Hutto; two great-great-grandchildren, Gabriella Baca and Trystin Zimmerman; sister-in-law, Mabel Higgins, of Merkel, TX; niece, Pat Graves, of Los Alamos, NM; nephew, Ray Roe and wife, Boni, of Pflugerville, TX; and numerous kinfolk living throughout Texas. Pallbearers will be Robert Baca, David Otoski, Jerry Watkins, George Hutto, Tom Swahlen, Russell Sanford, Paul Allen, and Scott Allen. BATES -- Jack H. Bates, Jr. (Casey), 54, departed this life on April 24, 2008, at his home in West Plains, MO. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer prior to leaving us. Born in Albuquerque August 13, 1953, to the late Jack H. and Peggy Bates, he was a 1971 graduate of Valley High and an honorably discharged veteran of the USAF. Casey is survived by his longtime companion, Glenda Carr, of West Plains, MO; sister Julianne B. Knutson, her husband, Paul; and children, Kohl and Kassidy, of Orchard, CO: his sister, Jennifer B. Averill and her husband, William Allen Averill, of Corrales; and many good friends in NM and MO. Although sometimes a troubled wanderer, he was an artist with his music, woodwork, house renovations, painting, and beautiful housekeeping. We will miss him and send him love on the next journey; Life means all that it ever meant. I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is past. Nothing has been lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before-only better. Infinitely happier. We will be one, together forever (Kevin Healy).

BILAKE -- Chet Bilake, 89, of Albuquerque was born in Trenton, New Jersey to Julian and Anna Bielicki on August 25, 1918, and passed away on Friday, April 25, 2008, at The Rehabilition Center of Albuquerque. Chet served in the Air Force as a co-pilot in WWII and stateside in the Korean War. Moving to Albuquerque after the war, Chet found a home with PNM as a personnel and budget manager until his retirement. Chet was also socially active in the Scottish and Yorkrite Shriners and served as President of the Kiwanis. Chet was preceded in death by his sole-mate of 53 years, Mary Nell Bilake. They are now together dancing in heaven and being our guardian angels. At Chet's request, he will be cremated and there will not be a memorial service. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Shriners of Albuquerque. Left to cherish his life is his beautiful daughter, Barbara Brown of Albuquerque, two grandchildren, Debbie Williams and her husband, Mark, of Beaumont, TX., Dennis Brown and his wife, Frances; and three great-grandchildren, Dale, Lynne, and Alex all of Rio Rancho, NM. The family would like to thank The Ambercare Group for all of their help and support and for allowing Chet to die as he lived, with dignity and pride.

CARDENAS -- Jose Valdez Cardenas, 91, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosa; children Gloria, Helen, Geraldine, John, James, Lucille, Nancy, Vincent, and Marie; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons, Joe, Jr., Mario and Daniel. Joe served in both the US Navy and retired from the US Air Force; serving in WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. He retired from Civil Service, Kirtland Air Force Base. Mass of the Resurrection will be Thursday, May 1, 2008, 9:00 a.m. at Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Road, NE. COOK -- Orlando Cook, 56, of Albuquerque, NM went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 28, 2008. He was born January 18, 1952, in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents; Alvin and Clara Cook and his sister Lorraine Cook. He is survived by his daughter Annette "Blue" Dixson and husband, Brian; brothers, Clovis, Ronald, Clifford and wife Sheila, Phillip and wife Agnes, Ivan and wife Patricia; one sister; Dorothy Trujeque and husband Michael and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family members. A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Riverside Funeral Home at 6:00 pm, followed by a Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. A Mass will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008, at 9:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Clifford Cook, Phillip Cook, Ronald Cook, Larry Griego, Edward Gallegos and Brian Dixson. ESCAMILA -- Cesario (Cesar) Escamila, 83, passed away on April 14, 2008. Cesar was a WW II veteran. He served in the south pacific and was very proud of that. Cesar was a good friend to all. He was very giving and willing to help others. Cesar was a joy to have around and will be missed by all who loved him. Friends will gather Saturday May 3, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe.

FARLESS -- William (Billy) Farless, 55, was called home Tuesday, April 29, 2008. William was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico on June 1, 1952 to William and Mildred Farless. Billy is preceded in death by his mother and father and one sister, Charlene McKinney. He is survived by his three sons, Paul Farless, Tommy Farless, and Joseph Farless; one daughter, Brandie Farless; five grandchildren; one brother, Ron Farless; and one sister, Cheryl K. FREEDMAN -- Charlotte L. Freedman, 85, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in Albuquerque, NM. She was born August 1, 1922, in Cleveland, OH, to Nathan and Anna Siegel. Charlotte was a resident of Albuquerque since 1949. She was also a longtime member of Chavurah HaMidbar. Charlotte loved to travel, but her one true passion in life was taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Lynn Freedman, Neil Freedman and wife Linda Tabaka, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, David Belman, Sarah Belman and Janette Freedman; great granddaughter, Tianna Jones, with one great grandchild due any day; nieces, Brahna Wilczynski, Leah Wilensky, and Susan Reiner; nephews, Hershel Shanks, Nelson Siegel, and Edward Siegel; Belle Freedman, her loving and faithful cat; and many other loving family members, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death in 2004 by her loving husband of 60 years, Phillip. Memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services on Wyoming, Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 4:30p.m. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
