ALLEN -- Dorothy "Chick" Mae (Higgins) Allen, 99, was escorted by angels to meet her Lord and Savior on April 28, 2008. She will be reunited with her beloved husband of 77 years, Pickens "Pick" E. Allen, who preceded her in death October 2005, her loving daughter, Dale (Allen) Sanford and her husband, Charles; and many other family members waiting for her in heaven. A Celebration of her life with us and her life now with God will be Saturday, May 3, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Merkel, TX with Reverend Donny Harber officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel. Chick was born September 21, 1908, in Merkel, TX to Joseph Kincaid and Margaret Brown Higgins. She was one of eight children and the last to leave her beloved family and friends. She was very proud of the fact that she graduated from Merkel High School with a perfect attendance record. Chick enjoyed 99 years with family and friends. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as a compassionate person who was always willing to help her family, friends, and guests. Her door was always open, her kitchen full of good food for all, her heart went into everything she did, and she was an inspiration to all who met her. She was a wonderful seamstress and an avid quilter, designing and making numerous clothing items and quilts for family and friends. Chick lived in Albuquerque for the past five years at Garland House, under the loving care and compassion of the staff. She previously lived in Ruidoso, NM for 34 years after she and Pick retired from Los Alamos, NM. Chick managed the Speer's Dept. Store in Los Alamos and Pick worked as a fireman for AEC. While in Ruidoso, Chick volunteered with the Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and helped start the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. Survivors include her son, Jerry Allen and wife, Phyllis, of Corrales, NM; daughter, Nancy Hutto and husband, Joe, of Tularosa, NM; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Marka and David Otoski, Lisa and Jerry Watkins, Russell and Vangie Sanford, Bridget and Tom Swahlen, Paul and Kelli Allen, Scott and Julie Allen, George Hutto, Joy and Robert Baca, Larry and Rachelle Luna, Leroy Luna; 21 great-grandchildren and their spouses, Brandi Baca Zimmerman and Tucker, Jared Otoski and Jessica, Lindsey Otoski Curtis and Jason, Robert Joseph Baca, Jason Swahlen, Taylor Allen and Julia, Griffin Watkins, Chad Otoski, Salomon Baca, Jessica Watkins, Kevin Swahlen, Matthew Sanford, Sarah Sanford, Lisa Luna, Leigh Luna, Katelyn Otoski, Glynna Luna, Michael Swahlen, Jaymi Allen, Kaysi Allen and Dalton Hutto; two great-great-grandchildren, Gabriella Baca and Trystin Zimmerman; sister-in-law, Mabel Higgins, of Merkel, TX; niece, Pat Graves, of Los Alamos, NM; nephew, Ray Roe and wife, Boni, of Pflugerville, TX; and numerous kinfolk living throughout Texas. BATES -- Jack H. Bates, Jr. (Casey), 54, departed this life on April 24, 2008, at his home in West Plains, MO. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer prior to leaving us. Born in Albuquerque August 13, 1953, to the late Jack H. and Peggy Bates, he was a 1971 graduate of Valley High and an honorably discharged veteran of the USAF. Casey is survived by his longtime companion, Glenda Carr, of West Plains, MO; sister Julianne B. Knutson, her husband, Paul; and children, Kohl and Kassidy, of Orchard, CO: his sister, Jennifer B. Averill and her husband, William Allen Averill, of Corrales; and many good friends in NM and MO. Although sometimes a troubled wanderer, he was an artist with his music, woodwork, house renovations, painting, and beautiful housekeeping. We will miss him and send him love on the next journey; Life means all that it ever meant. I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is past. Nothing has been lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before-only better. Infinitely happier. We will be one, together forever (Kevin Healy).

BILAKE -- Chet Bilake, 89, of Albuquerque was born in Trenton, New Jersey to Julian and Anna Bielicki on August 25, 1918, and passed away on Friday, April 25, 2008, at The Rehabilition Center of Albuquerque. Chet served in the Air Force as a co-pilot in WWII and stateside in the Korean War. Moving to Albuquerque after the war, Chet found a home with PNM as a personnel and budget manager until his retirement. Chet was also socially active in the Scottish and Yorkrite Shriners and served as President of the Kiwanis. Chet was preceded in death by his sole-mate of 53 years, Mary Nell Bilake. They are now together dancing in heaven and being our guardian angels. At Chet's request, he will be cremated and there will not be a memorial service. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Shriners of Albuquerque. Left to cherish his life is his beautiful daughter, Barbara Brown of Albuquerque, two grandchildren, Debbie Williams and her husband, Mark, of Beaumont, TX., Dennis Brown and his wife, Frances; and three great-grandchildren, Dale, Lynne, and Alex all of Rio Rancho, NM. The family would like to thank The Ambercare Group for all of their help and support and for allowing Chet to die as he lived, with dignity and pride.

CARDENAS -- Jose Valdez Cardenas, 91, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosa; children Gloria, Helen, Geraldine, John, James, Lucille, Nancy, Vincent, and Marie; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons, Joe, Jr., Mario and Daniel. Joe served in both the US Navy and retired from the US Air Force; serving in WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. He retired from Civil Service, Kirtland Air Force Base. Mass of the Resurrection will be Thursday, May 1, 2008, 9:00 a.m. at Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Road, NE. COOK -- Orlando Cook, 56, of Albuquerque, NM went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 28, 2008. He was born January 18, 1952, in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents; Alvin and Clara Cook and his sister Lorraine Cook. He is survived by his daughter Annette "Blue" Dixson and husband, Brian; brothers, Clovis, Ronald, Clifford and wife Sheila, Phillip and wife Agnes, Ivan and wife Patricia; one sister; Dorothy Trujeque and husband Michael and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family members. ESCAMILA -- Cesario (Cesar) Escamila, 83, passed away on April 14, 2008. Cesar was a WW II veteran. He served in the south pacific and was very proud of that. Cesar was a good friend to all. He was very giving and willing to help others. Cesar was a joy to have around and will be missed by all who loved him. FARLESS -- William (Billy) Farless, 55, was called home Tuesday, April 29, 2008. William was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico on June 1, 1952 to William and Mildred Farless. FREEDMAN -- Charlotte L. Freedman, 85, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in Albuquerque, NM. She was born August 1, 1922, in Cleveland, OH, to Nathan and Anna Siegel. Charlotte was a resident of Albuquerque since 1949. She was also a longtime member of Chavurah HaMidbar. Charlotte loved to travel, but her one true passion in life was taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Lynn Freedman, Neil Freedman and wife Linda Tabaka, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, David Belman, Sarah Belman and Janette Freedman; great granddaughter, Tianna Jones, with one great grandchild due any day; nieces, Brahna Wilczynski, Leah Wilensky, and Susan Reiner; nephews, Hershel Shanks, Nelson Siegel, and Edward Siegel; Belle Freedman, her loving and faithful cat; and many other loving family members, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death in 2004 by her loving husband of 60 years, Phillip. GARCIA -- Lucinda J. Garcia, 91, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 27, 2008, with her loving family at her side. Mrs. Garcia is survived by her beloved husband of seventy-one years, Mr. Patricio C. LINES -- Billy Frank Lines, of Albuquerque, passed away on April 28, 2008 with his beloved wife, Evelyn Louise Gill Lines, at his side. Bill was born on December 11, 1930 and married Evelyn in 1953. He received his bachelors of science degree at Arizona State University in animal husbandry. He actively served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 and worked for Phelps Dodge for 41 years. Bill is survived by Evelyn and their three daughters, Margo Pasha, Gail Boyd and Toni Bryant; his sons-in-law, Moe Pasha and Jerry Boyd; his grandchildren, Kirsten and Adam Pasha, Taylor and Megan Boyd, and Cheyenne and Creed Bryant; and his sister, Geri Skelton. Bill's life will be celebrated and he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend at 10:30 a.m. on May 2, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church. LUCERO -- Amelia B. Lucero was born September 20, 1918 in Albuquerque. She went to her home in heaven, Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the age of 89. Amelia was a member of San Jose de Los Duranes mission to San Felipe de Neri, a member of the Blue Army, the Sacred Heart League, Madres Cristianas and Mayordoma. Amelia was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Dolores Baca; two brothers; one sister and her beloved husband, Jose C. Lucero. She is survived by her son, Felipe Lucero and wife Dolores; daughter, Dolores Lallie Schumpert and husband Curt; nephew, Chano Baca and wife Grace; granddaughters, Corrine Bandera, Irene Lucero and Sonia Lucero; great granddaughters, April and Terri Lucero and Luna Bandera; great grandsons, Jahdi Bandera, Dylan and Felipito Seniseros; nephews and nieces, Liz, Thomas, Mariah, Ricky Baca and wife Loretta and son, Patrick, Debra and Clarence, Trystan Baca and numerous other family members and friends who loved and will miss her dearly. MCDONALD -- Janice Louise McDonald (Ryan Wright), 55, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008, surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her son, Patrick Ryan, of Albuquerque; and his family, Erin Yarasheski, Bailey, and Sean. She is also survived by her son, Michael Ryan, of Jacksonville, FL, and his family; Kristy Ryan, and Kendall. She is one of seven children born to Lavon and Betty McDonald of Albuquerque. Her siblings are, Joyce Walter, her husband, Bill, Tim McDonald, his wife, Janet, Tom McDonald, Julie Sharpe, Greg McDonald, and Patti Underwood and her husband, Dick. She is aunt to 12 nieces and nephews, and 20 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was friend to all who knew her. Janice was a teacher in Albuquerque for 15 years before moving to Houston to become a tour coordinator; organizing tours for student groups to New York and D.C. Janice recently moved back to Albuquerque to be closer to her family. She loved children, and dedicated her life to educating them, both inside and outside the classroom. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and coworker, all of whom loved her incredible sense of humor. Janice lit up a room with her infectious laughter. She is much loved, and will be greatly missed but never forgotten. There will be a Visitation on Thursday, May 1, 2008, from 5:00 to 7:00 at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming NE, Albuquerque, with a Rosary Service immediately following. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 12500 Carmel NE, Albuquerque. MOORE -- Mary Elizabeth Moore, 98, passed away on April 29, 2008. Mary was born to John and Margaret (Boland) Nugent on June 2, 1909 in County Clair Ireland. Mary came from Ireland as a teenager. She lived in Brooklyn, New York and became a U.S. Citizen in the late 1940s. She was married to William F. Moore. All who knew her knew her as a very independent person. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and extremely proud of her Irish heritage including her Irish tea with cream. She is remembered for her generous spirit and was nick-named "Give Away Mary". She moved to Ormond Beach, Florida after her retirement as a retail department store manager. In 2006, she came to Rio Rancho. Mary is survived by her three children; Mary Ellen Beggins of Smithtown, NY, Bill Moore and wife Debbi of Rio Rancho, NM and Bob Moore of Staten Island, NY. She was "Nana" to 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 11 great- great- grandchildren. The last of 13 siblings, she was also preceded in death by her husband William in 1964, daughter Elizabeth Rogers, sons-in -law Richard Beggins and Kevin Rogers, grandson Michael Rogers and granddaughter Barbara Beggins. A Visitation for Mary will be on Thursday, May 1, 2008, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. in Daniels Family Funeral Chapel, Sara Rd, Meadowlark Lane, Rio Rancho. MORA -- Bobby H. Mora, 84, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on Monday, April 28, 2008. He is survived by his two children, Sandra Brotocavali and Richard Mora both of California; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Ramona L. and Oralia Mora, both of Albuquerque; and a brother, Paul H. Mora and wife, Rosemary of Albuquerque and many nieces and nephews. He was born on November 26, 1923 in Albuquerque to the late Luciano and Isidora (Herrera) Mora. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Bobby loved and enjoyed his family and also enjoyed going to church and the various functions held at the South Valley Care Center where he lived. OWENS -- "Sue" Mary Francis, 89, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Sue was born near Winnsboro, Texas May 31, 1918 to parents Charles and Lura Stone. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Floyd Richard "Dick" Owens. Dick and Sue made their home in Albuquerque since 1973. During WWII, Sue lived in Babbitt, Nevada, working for the war effort at the Naval Ammunition Depot. It was there she met and married Dick, a navy sailor stationed at the depot. She devoted much of her time to PTA and as president of PEO. After moving to Alamogordo in the 1960's Sue served in the Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital Volunteer Program. She continued her hospital volunteer work throughout her life and after later moves to Torrance and Lompoc, California, and finally to Albuquerque. While in Lompoc, she was an active member of the Lompoc Flower Club and the annual Lompoc Flower Festival. Throughout her life, Sue was an active member of many churches, including Grace United Methodist Church in Alamogordo, Palos Verdes United Methodist Church and Lompoc United Methodist Church, and Albuquerque's St. John's United Methodist Church where she was active in Naomi Circle. Sue is survived by her daughter, Patsy Cavin and husband Bill of Albuquerque, and by son Richard "Rick" Owens and wife Amy of Rio Rancho. Surviving grandchildren are Kimberli Ruiz and husband Albert, Jeffry Owens and wife Cindy, Thomas Scott Owens and wife Kari, Russell Owens and wife Kelly, Timothy Owens and wife Barbara, Cristina Johnson and husband Joshua, Daniel Cavin and wife April, Ashley Owens, Brianna Owens and Tasha Owens. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Thomas Leon Owens, grandson Dean Edward Owens, sister Juanita Barker, and brother Weldon "Buck" Stone. Visitation will be Sunday, May 4, 2008, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE. Funeral Services will be Monday, May 5, 2008, 12:30 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. POYNTER -- Ann Zurlis Bazan Poynter, 71, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008. She is survived by her siblings, Jim Zurlis (Judy) of Richardson, TX, Kathy Hamilton (Richard) of Pagosa Springs, CO, and Marylin Buckley (Pat) of Pagosa Springs, CO; nephews, Scott and Steven Zurlis, Sean and Bryan Buckley, and Kevin Hamilton; and niece, Emily Hamilton; and god-daughter, Liz Ramos (Nick); and god-grandson, Nick "Scooch" Ramos; and her very "connected families" the Bazans and Poynters. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Helen F. and Louis J. Zurlis; her first husband, Joaquin Bazan; and her second husband, Herbert M. Poynter. She graduated from Ursuline Academy of Dallas and received her Master's degree from Tulane University of New Orleans. After being a member of the Ursuline Order of Nuns for 19 years, she began her second career as a sales representative for Silver Burdett Publishing Co. Before and after her retirement, Ann was always involved with religious education and the Catholic community. Her Red Hat/Cancer group brought joy and laughter to many. As an important part of the Ursuline Alumnae organization of Dallas, she spent countless hours staying in touch with her beloved friends. Ann will be remembered with Recitation of the Rosary, Friday, May 2, 2008, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. RAEL -- Lawrence Paul In fondest memory of Lawrence Paul Rael. The bright candle of his youth was put out on March 30, 2008, in Atascadero, CA. Paul was born on December 30, 1970, in Albuquerque, NM. Paul was an avid science-fiction fan, and a Game-Boy afficianado. He attended church regularly, and loved God and his fellow man. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bernabe and Ernesta Rael, of Albuquerque, NM. and Donald Martin of Pomona, CA. Paul is survived by his sister, Stephanie J. Rael, M.D. of Albuquerque, NM; his parents, Lorenzo and Leigh Ann Rael, of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; his grandmothers, Dorthy Martin of Pomona, CA, Emily Rael of Albuquerque, NM; and uncles, Lee Rael, John Rael, Donnie Martin, Kerry Martin, also many friends in Atascadero, and Coalinga, CA. ROMERO -- TILLIE L. Romero, 83, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 28, 2008. Mrs. Romero is survived by her loving children, Lydia Abeyta, Ramona Romero, Lorraine Miera and husband, Robert, Philip M. Romero and wife, Angie, Charlie Romero and wife, Cecilia, David Romero and wife, Alma, Rick Romero and wife, Patsy, Paul Romero, Chris Romero and wife, Janie, Adam Romero and wife, Christine; her sister, Emma Candelaria; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Romero was preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe E. Romero. Mrs. Romero was a member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Legion of Mary. WITMAN -- Maria Imilda Witman, 92, died peacefully in her sleep, and she passed into God's care on Saturday, April 26, 2008. She was raised in Philadelphia, PA and Oaklyn, NJ with her parents, Raymond and Mae Procter, and her four siblings, Ray, Don, Rita, and Bob. She married Adam Witman in 1945, and they made their home in Bethlehem, PA. In 1969, they moved to Albuquerque and have lived here ever since. She was preceded in death by, her devoted husband of 63 years of marriage, Adam Witman; brothers, Ray and Bob. Maria is survived by her sister, Rita Clapper of Methuen, MA; brother, Donald Procter of Altadena, CA. Maria loved traveling and delighted in her role as a family member, taking great pleasure helping and watching her nieces and nephews mature and grow up. She worked as an elevator operator along with her sister in a chocolate establishment in Philadelphia. Maria loved the beauty of nature and derived great pleasure from the majestic mountains and the flowers of Albuquerque, Maria and Adam attended church each Sunday where they befriended Sister Lalonde Tyan who has been a support person and mentor to them for many years of her life in a local rest home in Albuquerque. Maria is much loved and will be missed dearly by her family and friends and, in particular, Leann Seiler and Sister Ryan who were like family to her. WOODS -- Ella Mae Woods went to be with Jesus on April 27, 2008. She was born on January 20, 1921, to Mattie Lean Wilber and Sammy Hubert in Pittsburg, Texas. She and her husband, Willie Lee Woods, moved to Albuquerque from Amarillo after WWII. She was a life-long member of the Church of God in Christ denomination. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie. She is survived by her children, Raymond Woods, Steven Woods, Diana Woods Garcia, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, her companion, James Taylor; and the extended Toulouse Family.
