CARDENAS -- Jose Valdez Cardenas, 91, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosa; children Gloria, Helen, Geraldine, John, James, Lucille, Nancy, Vincent, and Marie; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons, Joe, Jr., Mario and Daniel. Joe served in both the US Navy and retired from the US Air Force; serving in WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. He retired from Civil Service, Kirtland Air Force Base. Mass of the Resurrection will be Thursday, May 1, 2008, 9:00 a.m. at Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Road, NE. CHAVEZ -- Leandro Chavez, 69, of Estancia, NM went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2008, after a long illness with his loving family beside him. Leandro was born July 5, 1938, in Estancia, NM to Jacobo and Melicia Chavez. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Erbie Chavez; sister, Mores; son, Herman; and grandson, Rene. Leandro is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dorothy; sons, Jake (Pelon) and wife, Mary; Leo Jr.; daughters, Wanda and husband, Rene; Carla; Sandra and husband, Lawrence; Nancy; Renee and husband, Dwayne; Darlene and Pauline; and pets; numerous grandchildren; many great-grandchild; brothers, Beltran; Jimmy; Tony, and spouse; Nick Sedillo and wife, Rita; and numerous nieces and nephews. At a very young age along with his brothers, he had to drop to out of school to work and provide for his family. His hard work and dedication paid off, he later on became a very successful plastering contractor and home builder. He was a very strong man with old fashioned values. He was a huge race car enthusiast, not only did he watch but he raced #53 at Speedway Park and Duke City Raceway where his family gathered to watch. He will always be a winner in our hearts. He loved the peace and tranquility of living in the East Mountains. A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary Chapel in Moriarty, NM from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM. A Mass will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM; Father William Young will be officiating, a Reception will follow the Mass and cremation will follow after the Services. FARLESS -- William (Billy) Farless, 55, was called home Tuesday, April 29, 2008. William was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico on June 1, 1952 to William and Mildred Farless. Billy is preceded in death by his mother and father and one sister, Charlene McKinney. He is survived by his three sons, Paul Farless, Tommy Farless, and Joseph Farless; one daughter, Brandie Farless; five grandchildren; one brother, Ron Farless; and one sister, Cheryl K. GARCIA -- Lucinda J. Garcia, 91, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 27, 2008, with her loving family at her side. Mrs. Garcia is survived by her beloved husband of seventy-one years, Mr. Patricio C. Garcia; her children, Frances Griego, Patsy Padilla and husband, Joe, Teresa Weaver, Leroy Garcia and wife, Rosalie, Lala Garcia; three sisters, Rita Holguin and husband, Liso, Mary Aranda, Sarah Puentes and husband, Chava; her brothers, Julian Jimenez and wife, Ruth, Arturo Jimenez and wife, Guera; her sister-in-law, Consuleo Jimenez; brother-in-law, Julio Martinez; twenty grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Barbara Martinez; and her sons-in-law, Mike Weaver and Charles Griego. Mrs. Garcia was a member of the Catholic Church, a member of the Senior Group at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and she was well known for her hospitality. Visitation will be Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., by George Lucero. Final Visitation will be Friday at the Church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Father Ramon Aragon, presider. GEORGE -- Joyce K. George, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully Monday, April 29, 2008. She is survived by her sons, Donald and wife, Mary Ann of Albion, NE, Joseph and wife, Karen of Huntington Beach, CA, John and wife, Marquita of Albuquerque, and San Carlos, Mexico, James and wife, Agnes of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Charlotte George of Las Vegas, NM; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Ronald and son, Robert. GOEKLER -- Alicia Monell Goekler, a woman after God's own heart, went home to be with Jesus unexpectedly on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at the age of 28. She was born November 2, 1979, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Ralph Goekler and Scheery Renken Goekler. Alicia graduated from Eldorado High School, in Albuquerque in 1998, from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM, in 2002 with a BS degree in biochemistry and was pursuing a Master's in business administration from Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond. She is survived by her mother and best friend, Scheery Goekler, of Edmond; her father, Ralph Goekler, of New Mexico; her brother, Ryan Goekler; and sister -in-law, Carol Goekler; and nephews, Isaac, Caden, and Canyon Goekler of Edmond; her grandfather, M.H. Renken, affectionaly known as Papa, of Crescent; her aunt and uncle, Jeanie and David Gallman, of Edmond; her uncle and aunt, John and Jeanne Ann Renken; and cousin, Madison Renken of Methuen, MA; her aunt and uncle, Patty and John Hurdle; and cousins, Johnny and Eli Hurdle of Edmond; her uncle, Dean Daugherty, and cousin, Dakota Daugherty, of Fairview; her aunt and uncle Twila and Shawn Ubersox; and cousins, Stefanie and Cassidee Daugherty in Prairie du Sac, WI; aunt and uncle, Louise and Delvin Reese, of Oklahoma City; and cousins, Cheryl, Scott, Carrie, and Callie Thompson and Randy, Gay, Kylie, and Ashlan Reese, OKC; uncle and aunt, Les and Margaret Goekler, of Mesquite, TX; and uncle, Lester Goekler; and other extended family. Alicia loved her family and was particularly devoted to her nephews Isaac, Caden, and Canyon, who affectionately called her "Auntie" for whom she was like a second mom. She loved to plan family activities and to share in the joy of being together. Alicia was deeply loved and will be greatly missed, especially by her mom with whom she shared a very special relationship. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where she worshipped along with her mom and served as lst grade TEAM table leader and on the stewardship board's Sunday morning counting team. She was eager to learn more about her Savior by attending Bible studies in her church. She especially enjoyed studying the book of Romans in Bible Study Fellowship, which she attended with her aunt Jeanie and was looking forward to starting BSF again in the fall for the study of Moses with her mom. An important part of her faith journey was realizing how God could use her to point others to Him. A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 3600 NW Expressway Street, OKC at 10:00 a.m., and the Burial Service at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Lahoma, OK at 2:00 p.m. Memorial gifts can be made to Messiah Lutheran School for education scholarships. GOMEZ -- Alexander J. Gomez, 64, passed away on April 28, 2008, after a year-long journey battling cancer. This journey brought him closer to our Lord. Alex's testimony helped mend broken relationships and brought others to know God. Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Eugenio and Eulalia Gomez; and his brothers, Orlando, Benny, and Charlie. He is survived by his loving wife, Emily Gomez; his daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Anthony Delgado; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Lora Gomez; his grandchildren, Jennifer Looper and her husband, Greg, Emilio Gomez, Gabriel Delgado, Elizabeth Delgado, Alexis Gomez, and Joseph Gomez. He is also survived by his siblings, Barbara, Gilbert, Larry, Dorothy, and Richard, plus many other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly. Alex lived his entire life in Albuquerque, driving a semi-truck for many years before owning a trucking company with his son Joseph. He spent the last several years working for Mesa Verde Resources. Alex enjoyed the Colts, Lobo basketball and car races, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd NW. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following the Mass, Alex will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, at Paseo del Norte and Wyoming NE. Pallbearers will be Bob Martinez, Anthony Gomez, Ernest Gomez, Ruben Jaramillo, Juan Carlos Gonzales, Nick Garcia Jr., and David Sanchez. The family would like to especially thank his many "baby sitters" including Vista Care Hospice who lovingly devoted their time to his care. GRAY -- Evelyn B. Gray, 85, resident of Farmington, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008. She is survived by her niece, Roberta Taylor; granddaughter, Jennifer DuFour and husband, Jason; grandson, Will Gray and wife, Sarah; brother-in-law, Buster Kilpatrick; great-nieces, Leslie Swarts and husband, Jeremy, and Kimberly Wiese and husband, Eric; and all the children in her life that she considered her great-grandchildren, Jonah, Caleb, Nathan, Matthew, Ethan, Ayden, Mia, and twins on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Willard Gray; sister, Florence Kilpatrick; and parents, Joe and Lillie Menapace. Evelyn worked with Willard at their business, Equipment Sales and Manufacturing in Albuquerque. She really enjoyed the five years she spent at The Bridge Assisted Living in Farmington playing Bingo and Skipbo and spending time with her family. Evelyn loved to travel with Willard and continued traveling with friends after he passed. The family would like to thank the staff at Life Care Nursing Home for their care and always being there for Evelyn. She made many friendships with the residents and caretakers. Also, thanks to the staff at San Juan Regional Hospital who took care of her in her final days, especially Tracy and Karen.
