ARMIJO -- Urbana Armijo, age 87, was born June 28, 1920 in Marquez, NM. She passed away at her home on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. Urbana was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Armijo. She is survived by her children: sons, Augustine Armijo and wife, Ruth, and Pedro "Pete" Armijo; daughters, Alfie Garcia and husband, Joe, Frances Martinez and husband, Pedro "Pete" and Vera Valencia; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. Services will be held at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 4th and Alameda NW. ATKIN -- Phyllis M. Atkin, resident of Albuquerque since 1960, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 15, 2007. She was born May 3, 1931 in Columbus, OH, the oldest of five children of Harry and Miriam Mathless. Phyllis graduated from Ohio State University and moved to New York City shortly thereafter, where she met her husband-to-be of 54 years, Capt. Martin Atkin (USAF-Ret.). She and Martin lived and worked in Manhattan and enjoyed the big city lifestyle before moving to New Mexico. Phyllis played a leadership role in the community, serving as president of Hadassah and of the B'nai Israel Sisterhood, and was a big supporter of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and the Opera. As a travel agent, she thoroughly enjoyed her opportunities to journey to Europe, South America and throughout the US. She was known for her articulateness, her beautiful voice and ready smile; she was a vibrant, intelligent and caring woman who was loved by many. Phyllis was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by two sons, Gregory and his wife, Kathleen of Albuquerque, Darrell and his wife, Dona of San Diego, CA; her daughter, Hillary Atkin of Santa Monica, CA; six grandchildren, Samuel, Daniel, Evan, Michael, David and Rebecca Atkin; her brother, Paul Mathless and his wife, Surang, of Washington, D.C; two sisters, Eileen Spector and husband, Donn of Denver, CO, and Barbara Trager and her husband, Tom, of Boulder, CO. She is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachel Atkin; and by a brother, Leonard Mathless. Services were conducted on Friday, November 16, 2007, at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rabbi Joseph R. Black officiating. AYERS -- Corrine "Corky" Overfelt Ayers, 97, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2007 in Oceanside, CA. Corky was born May 27, 1910, in Shamrock, TXand settled in Albuquerque. She was a devoted wife and mother, as well as an outstanding athlete through her entire life. She is a Past Matron of Eastern Star and a sixty-year member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. Her husband, as well as her three children preceded Corky in death. Survivors include 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was an incredible woman with an endearing and humorous outlook on life. Rest in peace grandma Corky you will be dearly missed by all of us. BARKER -- Lois Naomi Barker returned to her Heavenly Father Nov. 21, 2007, from Rio Rancho, N.M. She came into this world in Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 18, 1924. Lois was a loving mother, wife, grandmother sister, aunt and wonderful loving person. She celebrated life with a special joy and thanksgiving that she shared with everyone around her. Her bright laughing eyes and ready smile will be missed. Lois is survived by: her three children and their spouses, Michael and Mitsuko Barker of Japan, Roberta Barker of Rio Rancho and Deborah and Donald Black of Rio Rancho. She was blessed with two grandsons, David Frost and Michael Barker, both of Rio Rancho. She also is survived by her two sisters, Jeannette Wade of Rio Rancho and Anne Adams of Ellicott, Colo., and her sister-in-law Doris Armstrong of Santa Fe, N.M. BARRACK -- Jimel Barrack, 90, of Albuquerque passed away peacefully on November 22, 2007. He is survived by his children, Connie Aden and husband, Hal, Nancy Cangiolosi and husband, Joe, Jimmy Barrack, Cynthia McGowan, Jun Barrack, and Darlene Black and husband, Bud; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Jimel was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Evelyn. He served in the US Marine Corp. during World War II. During his life he worked in various capacities in the liquor industry in both Colorado and New Mexico. Jimel's Indian Jewelry was his last business endeavor before retirement. He had a love for golf, horse racing and sports. He will be greatly missed and will always be remembered as a great dad, grandfather, and friend. Cremation has taken place. CALHOUN -- Richard Daniel Calhoun -- 69, a longtime resident of Rio Rancho, passed away August 31, 2007 due to complications from a fall. Dan was a loved and trusted friend and will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his dog, Duke Calhoun and his close friends. CHRISTIANSEN -- Marjorie M. Christiansen, age 85 passed away on November 22, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Canton, IL to John E. and Margaret E. Miner long time residents of Albuquerque. Marjorie received her B.S and M.A degree from UNM and received a PhD from Utah State University in Nutrition Education. She was a Science Instructor at the Regina School of Nursing in Albuquerque, NM and was a Professor Emerita at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Marjorie was part of Bernalillo County Mental Health Development Center as a nutritional consultant; Marjorie was a member of the American Dietetic Association, past President of the Virginia Dietetic Association, as well as the past president for the Albuquerque District Dietetic Association. Recently Marjorie was the Chairman of the Resident Council of the Woodmark at Uptown; she was a member of several honorary societies including Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Xi. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Dr. Karen Miller and husband, Joel of Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter, Sherri Johnston and husband, Ray; great-grandchildren; Rachel Marie and Shawn Christian Johnston. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband, Ted L. Christiansen. CUMMINGS-LAMBSON -- Carol Lambson Cummings, 74, born on August 7, 1933 in Salt Lake City, UT, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, died after a long battle with cancer on Friday, November 23, 2007 at home, surrounded by her family and friends. She will be remembered as a caring, loving, and courageous woman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Apolles Lorenzo Lambson and Mary Ethel Young; eight brothers; two sisters; and one grandson, Ryan Heinkel. Carol is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Earl D. Cummings of Albuquerque; four children; and six grandchildren; daughter, Cathleen Cummings, her children Laura and Justin Heinkel; and three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jacqui Cummings of Peoria, AZ; William and Jill Cummings of Danforth, IL, their children Halley, Tess, Sylvia, and Celeste; and John and Judi Cummings of Albuquerque; two sisters, Mary Leona Ottesen, of Midvale, UT and Betty Kemp, husband, Shirel, of Sandy, UT; brother, Kenneth Lambson, and wife, Jean, of Sandy, UT. Carol was born the 13th child in a family of 14. Carol married Earl David Cummings in Las Vegas, NV on December 14, 1952. Both she and her husband are grandchildren of Mormon pioneers, a heritage of which Carol was very proud. Carol grew up in Midvale, UT and graduated from Jordan High School. She was a licensed beautician and cosmologist working in her profession for over 50 years. Carol was active in charities for cancer and many other community services. She was involved in scouts, serving as a den mother. She was an energetic participant in her children's sports, mainly football and track. She participated in the PTA organizations of 15 different schools. For many years, she was a key member of the Rio Grande Yacht club, and at one point, Carol was a volunteer candy striper at the VA Hospital. Carol and Earl were great adventurers, traveling widely during the last few years. She was a fantastic sport participating in the hunting, fishing, sailing, and flying activities of her husband and children. She especially loved collecting memorabilia from all over the world to decorate both her home and garden. Carol was known for her generous and outgoing personality. She put her hand out to help anyone in need and truly lived by the side of the road of life. She was a friend to all she met regardless of race, creed, religion, or social status. Carol made friends wherever she went and was well loved by all those whose lives she touched. CURRAN -- John N. Curran, age 88, a resident of Rio Communities, NM, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2007. He was a member of The Catholic Church. John was owner operator of Curran Dairy, located 1 mile north of the Belen Bridge from 1967 to 1979. He sold the dairy to his son James and moved to San Antonio, NM where he farmed up until 1984. He and his wife, Ruby retired to Rio Communities in Belen. Upon Ruby's death in 1989 John moved to Lewiston, CA, to be near his son, James and his family. Both families then moved to Loma, CO, in 1998. He returned to Rio Communities in 2004. He proudly served in the U.S. army during WWII in both the North African and Italian campaigns. John also had a career in the oil industry as a refinery manager in both Iraq and Kuwait. He was born in Wildcat, CA to the late Patrick and Gussie Curran in 1919. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby in 1989, and one son, who was killed in action during the Vietnam conflict, John D. Curran, 1971. He is also proceeded in death by his three brothers and one sister, all of California. John is survived by his son, James and his wife, Cyndi of Belen; four loving grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his caregiver of 19 years, Tanya Clark of Belen. He is also survived by Pilar Hageman, Jon Hageman, and Erica Bisch. DAUT -- Joan Grace Daut, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died November 16, 2007. She is survived by daughters, Nancy Lee Kerr of Peralta, Suzanne Marie White and Kathleen Grace Crawford and her husband, Mike, of Albuquerque; two grandsons, Jon-Michael Kerr of Surprise, AZ and Travis David Kerr of Peralta; one brother, Charles Merton "Chuck" Stentiford of Brookville, Long Island, NY; cousin, Carol McGough and her husband, Tom, of Greensboro, NC; nephews, Don Daut and his wife, Jan, and Dave Daut and his wife, Bitsy and their families; nieces, Heather Pollinger and her husband, Richard and Debbie Pancer and her husband, Jeff and their families. Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis X. "Frank" Daut; parents, Charles and Grace Stentiford; sister-in-law, Ina Stentiford; brother-in law, Jack Daut and his wife, Beverly; and niece, Linda Funnell. Joan was also preceded in death by her best friend of almost 60 years, Dorie Keeports. Joan was born in Freeport, Long Island, NY, on July 6, 1929 and attended grammar school and Hempstead High School in Hempstead, NY. She graduated in June 1946. She married Frank on September 6, 1948 and they moved to Albuquerque. Joan was an original member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, fishing, gardening, and designing flower arrangements. In the 1960s, Joan was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority, Gamma Rho Chapter. In March 1961, Joan was crowned ESA Sweetheart. She was a member of Uptown Garden Club from 1963 until her death. She was a nationally accredited flower show Master Judge. She held several offices in Garden Council. She was District I Director in 1985/1986. She was a chairwoman of the New Mexico State Fair flower shows. Joan was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital from 1965 until the 1990s. She was an avid Lobo and Denver Broncos fan. She loved watching NASCAR's Jeff Gordon. She especially enjoyed car trips with Frank--they visited 49 states, Canada and Mexico. Joan's family and friends were the most important part of her life and she so loved and enjoyed being with them. ESTRADA -- Frances Estrada, 79, a resident of Albuquerque, went to join our Lord peacefully on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, following a long-term struggle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. She passed in her home surrounded by her loving family. Frances was born on February 4, 1928 to Benito and Monica Saiz. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charlie. Frances is survived by her loving husband, Joe, of 57 years; her nine children and their spouses, Victoria Baca and husband, John, Barbara Alarid and husband, Michael, Richard Estrada and wife, Deborah, Monica Garcia and husband, Chris, Clarita Glomski and husband, Jerry, Stephanie, David and Donald Estrada and Bernice Reed and husband, Robert; 21 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren, all of whom loved her very much. Frances was devoted to her family and always put everyone else's needs before her own. She helped raise her 11 brothers and sisters and then raised her own 9 children while working for the City of Albuquerque and retiring after 30 years. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, sister and good friend and will be dearly missed by all. The family would especially like to express their gratitude to the staff at Total Community HealthCare for the loving care they provided to our mother through her illnesses during the last six years. FOWLER -- James "Jim" Fowler, age 73, passed away on November 22, 2007. Jim was a B-52 pilot in the Air Force serving his country proudly for 14 years and flew for TWA Airlines for 22 years until he was diagnosed with MS and took early retirement. GARRITY -- John James Garrity, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1974, died Saturday, November 17, 2007. John was born and raised in Chicago, IL. John was a loving and devoted family man survived by his spouse, Patricia Ann O'Leary and nine children, Brian Garrity, Jeanne and husband, Jose Senaro, Fr. HANSEN -- Ruth Elizabeth Hansen, 98, passed away, November 17, 2007 in Mobile, Alabama. She was born August 6, 1909 in Senatobia, MS a daughter of James Madison and Necie Ham Powell. She married Christian Rasmus Hansen, he passed away in February of 1988. She loved her church friends and family at the Montgomery Church of Christ. Survivors include one granddaughter and one grandson, Julie Templin and husband, Robert of Albuquerque; Andrew Orr of Poultney, Vermont; three great-grandchildren, Seth Huey, Grant Templin, and Olivia Templin. She was preceded in death by her daughter; Merle Orr; one sister; and five brothers. LACOUR -- Willie LaCour, 96, of Albuquerque, went home on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. He was born September 11, 1911 in Melrose, LA to the late, Elwar and Eugenia LaCour. Willie was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary "Mag" Magdalene in 1995. He retired from Greyhound Lines where he was a diesel mechanic after 30 years of service. Willie was a Eucharistic minister and was devoted to meeting the needs of everyone within the church. In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy, Manuel, and Emile; and one sister, Ellen; two grandchildren, Tommy and Louise. He is survived by three daughters, Nola Monette, Virginia Dubriel and her husband, Wesley, and Marie Gallion and her husband, Alphonse all of Albuquerque; two sons, Willie A. LaCour and his wife, Maria Elena of Albuquerque and Louis A.S. LaCour of Edgewood; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marie Metoyer and her husband, Anthony, of Albuquerque; and scores of other relatives and friends. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2007 at San Jose Catholic Church, 2401 Broadway SE. LARA -- Jose Roberto (Bobby) Lara, 61, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 22, 2007 in Socorro, NM. He was born March 8, 1946 in Socorro, NM relocating to Albuquerque, NM in 1973. He served in the Army National Guard for 32 years until his retirement in 1995. Bobby was preceded in death by his step-father, Candy Torres; his brother, Billy; and his son Raymond. He was an amazing father, grandfather, beloved son, uncle, brother-in-law and friend to many. He is survived by his mother, Eva Torres of Socorro; his daughters, Billie Jo Padilla and husband, Carl of Roswell, NM; Bobbie Jo Valdez and husband, Enrique (Kiki) of Belen, NM; grandchildren, Justin and Jordan Padilla; Brittany and Michael Lara; Arianna, Samantha, Sydney and Mario Valdez; numerous loving nieces and nephews and cousins. LAREDO -- Richard Jose Laredo, 76, born on February 15, 1931 in Tucumcari, NM and a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, went to be with the Lord on November 23, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Bernice of the family home; daughter, Maria Elena Laredo-DeArmond and husband, James (Bob-O); grandson and best friend, Joseph Richard DeArmond and godson, Gabriel Flores all of Albuquerque; sisters, Barbara Centeno and husband, Celestino, Helen Varela, Hope Bruno and husband, Carlos, and Natalie Lopez and husband, Ruben; brother, William Laredo and wife, Mary Jo; sister-in-law, Blandina Laredo-Cordova. Richard is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Doroteo and Elena Laredo; brothers, Fernando and Frederico; and sisters, Elvira, Consuelo and Maria. Richard was a long time member of St. Therese Catholic Church; VFW Post 401 where he was a manager for over 30 years. He was a veteran of the US Army. LODDY -- George (Guy) Loddy was born in Lindrith, NM on February 22, 1922 to Charles and Gavina Loddy. George was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 65 years, Estell V. (Coons) Loddy. He is survived by his sister, Rita Brooks of Bakersfield, CA; his son, George J. Loddy of Pojoaque, NM; his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara (Loddy) Walters and Richard Walters of Sand Springs, OK; three grandchildren, Shawn Loddy of San Diego, CA, Terry Walters and wife, Fiona Rhea of Tulsa, OK, Stacy (Walters) Moses and husband, Mitchell Moses of Sand Springs, OK; two great-grand children, Blake Moses and Kathryn Walters; many nieces and nephews. George served in the U.S. Army, Company C of the 131st Training Battalion, Tank Destroyer Unit in WWII. He was an electrician by trade, going to Los Alamos, NM when it was a boy's school and working for Reynolds Electric Company and later Zia Company at the Los Alamos National Laboratories until he retired in 1984. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed his affiliation with the Elks Lodge, he was proud to be a 32nd degree Mason and was a recognized as a 50 year member in 2007. He was active in the Los Alamos Shrine Club until 2006 when his wife passed away and he moved to Oklahoma to be with his daughter and grand children. He was a wonderful great-grandpa to his two great-grandchildren and loved his grandchildren very much. He was a kind, gentle soul and was loved by all who knew him. MEDINA -- Celestina. Mrs. Celestina Medina, 81, born September 20, 1926 in Llano, New Mexico, celebrated Thanksgiving in Heaven with our Lord on November 22, 2007. Mrs. Medina is the loving mother to Joe Fresquez Jr. and wife, Alice, Valvina Arguello and companion, Juan Villafana, Angie Vigil and husband, James and Rita Salazar. She enjoyed playing Chinese Checkers with her grandchildren, she led a simple life and had a love for nature. She left this world peacefully with a smile on her face. OSUNA -- Katharine, 95, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, November 16, 2007. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Patricia Osuna, and grandson, Benjamin Osuna, both of Albuquerque. Katharine is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews from coast-to-coast and in Mexico. She was a nurse for APS for 20 years. For the next 30 years she actively supported Meals on Wheels and All Faiths Receiving Home. POGAN -- Roy Floran Pogan was born April 3, 1918 in Ruby, TX. A resident of Albuquerque for over 75 years, he passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Yarbrough Pogan; parents, Maude Murry Pogan and James Emery Pogan; two sisters and one brother. He is survived by his son, Roy Pogan Jr. and wife, Corazon; grandson, Danny Pogan and wife, Rosemary; two great-grandchildren, Quentin and Tara of Roswell; daughter, Kathryn Pogan and grandsons, Michael and Matthew Sanchez of Albuquerque; two sisters and many other family members, friends and neighbors who loved and will miss him. Roy was a WWII Veteran of the US Army. He worked on the Isle of Trinidad and in Mexico. Roy was a member of the Operating Engineers for 38 years. He owned and operated mines in New Mexico and Colorado and sold light industrial equipment, antiques, collectibles and Indian arts and crafts. Roy was an avid gardener and a student of life. The Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1100 Montano NW, on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, where Roy was a member. PRIOR -- Robert Richard John Henry Prior died on Friday, November 9, 2007 after a bout with pneumonia. He was born on November 27, 1908 and died a few days short of his 99th birthday. He was born in Denver to Mary Mahon Prior and Charles Butler Prior and was raised in L.A. He worked his way through UCLA during the great depression and received a bachelor's in economics and psychology in 1933. He volunteered in the Army Air Force during WWII, passed up a stateside job as a machine gun instructor, and flew as a tail gunner in B-17s over Europe. He completed 24 combat missions while stationed in England with the 8th Air Force. He married Elizabeth Winifred Flaherty in 1944. After the war, he worked as a budget analyst for the government until his retirement. During his life, he was a longtime investor in the stock market, and an avid fisherman. He particularly liked fly fishing in Colorado and Wyoming and traveling the west with his wife. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth and is survived by his son, Charles; daughter, Melanie C. Harris and her husband, Thomas D. Harris, their children, Melissa Harris, Michelle Reitz, Thomas C. Harris, Amy Harris, Robert Harris, and Sara Harris; and twin great-grandchildren, Conner and Lauren Reitz; and by his niece, Dorothy Stewart, her husband, Arvel and their family; and his nephew, Tom Hanton. He lived a long and full life and was fond of quoting Mark Twain that he had seen a lot of trouble during his life but thankfully most of it happened to somebody else. May Robert rest in the arms of the Lord for eternity.

SALAS -- Stephanie Lynn Salas, 33, of Albuquerque, beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, and aunt, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2007. She was born on April 11, 1974 in Denver, CO, but lived all her life in New Mexico. Stephanie was also valedictorian and voted student of the year for the Career Enrichment Center Practical Nursing Program. Stephanie continued her education at the University of New Mexico where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in the fall of 1997. Stephanie was currently finishing internship hours to obtain her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of New Mexico and was employed at Walgreens. She shared a passion for learning and you rarely saw her without a book nearby or a topic ready to debate. Stephanie was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn Ruth Meloy Salas and aunt, Loretta S. Gamertsfelder. She is survived by her father, Hector A. Salas and wife, Maria of Springfield, MA; her sister, Angela M. Brown and husband, Jerry; nieces, Adriana and Miranda of Levelland, TX; and brother, Aaron N. Salas and wife, Rosario; nephew, Dominic of Houston, TX; her grandparents, Jack E. Meloy of Albuquerque, Ann Ward of Levelland, TX and Celestino and Frances G. Salas of Albuquerque; an uncle, Bruce Meloy of Albuquerque; aunt, Catrina Baransky of Manchester, NH; and aunt, Francine Salas of Albuquerque. She is also survived by cousins, Alicia, Gary, Gabrielle, Christopher, Dylan; and many other close relatives and friends. We all love you Stephanie and hope you find the peace for which you were always searching. SANCHEZ -- Abondio Albert Sanchez passed away peacefully on November 17, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; four children, Michael, Christine, Brittany, Sean; and seven grandchildren. SANCHEZ -- Ambrosio "Al" Sanchez passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2007 in Albuquerque at the age of 87. Mr. Sanchez was a member of the United States Air Force and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant after 28 years of service. He served in the Pacific during World War II and was stationed in Japan with the 36th Air Rescue Squadron. Mr. Sanchez was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Emma Sanchez in 2004. He is survived by his son, John Steven Sanchez and wife, Jackie; daughter, Elizabeth Jane Espinosa; brother, Horacio Sanchez and wife, Maryann; sister, Lila Garcia and husband, Manuel; grandchildren, Jami Sanchez, Jessica Sanchez and Elliott Espinosa; and great-grandson, Elliot Espinosa. SANCHEZ -- David H. Sanchez. In Loving Memory of David H. Sanchez. David, age 55, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007. David was born May 3, 1952 and was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM. David became very ill and he fought with great courage to stay with his family to the very end. He is remembered for his great spirit, his love for his family, his love for his music and his guitar. David was a hard worker and a very respected man who loved everyone unconditionally. We will never forget his smile and what a special person he was. SANCHEZ -- Thomas R. Tomas R. Sanchez, age 60, passed away on Sunday morning, Nov. 11, after a courageous battle with cancer. Tomas loved the beautiful plains and hills of the countryside and of the llano. A true rancher by hobby, he loved being out on his horse, looking at the beauty that God created for us. Born and raised in Adelino, more recently, he'd lived in Cresco, Iowa. Tomas always stayed close to where his heart was and never forgot his roots. Tomas was one of five brothers who served in the military during the Vietnam War. He will forever be remembered for his outgoing personality, and he never was short of a joke or funny story to share amongst his family and friends. Tomas was preceded in death by his father, Gilberto "Gillie" Sanchez, and brother, Mario Sanchez. He is survived by his son, Dominic J. Sanchez, of Washington, D.C.; his mother, Cipriana Sanchez of Adelino; his companion, Peggy Ireland of Cresco, Iowa; brothers, Lorenzo and wife, Gloria Jean, Charly and wife, Theresa, James and wife, Yvonne, Allen and wife, Carlina, David Sanchez, and Ramon Sanchez; sisters, Martha Sanchez, Alice Torres, Frances Duran, Karen (KJ) and husband, Richard Huntley; and sister-in-law, Eva Sanchez. He is also survived by many loving nieces, and nephews. A memorial mariachi Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, with Father Jose Hernandez presiding.

SCHIDE -- Norman K. Schide, 82, retired Albuquerque teacher, died peacefully on November 18, 2007. Norman was born in Des Moines, IA on September 24, 1925. After serving as a Navy Seabee, he graduated from Kent State University in 1950, and moved to Albuquerque soon after that. Wearing a suit and tie every day, Mr. Schide rode his Harley Davidson to Mark Twain Elementary School, where he taught for over 35 years. His long beard set a precedent for teachers. He felt honored that many of his former students kept in touch with him until the time of his death. Norman was a master origamist. He enjoyed spending time folding hundreds of beautiful creations, many of which were his original designs. He brought great pleasure to many people with his gifts of origami and had many wonderful friends to whom he taught the art of origami. In Norman's words, "To my fold, I cease to crease. To my beloved students, my middle name is Kiedaisch." At Norman's request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. SOSAYA -- Mannie W. left our world to be with our Lord and Father in Heaven on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at St. Vincent's Hospital where he battled a heart illness for one month. Mannie was born, December 20, 1931 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Frank Sr. and Ida (Tucker) Sosaya. Mannie is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Dolores and Helen, as well as his brothers Bobby and Frank Jr. May their souls rest in peace. Mannie is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Sosaya) Messenger and his granddaughters, Rochelle and Gina; great grandchildren:, Daisha, Karah and Jay Jr.; his brothers, Jimmy and wife, Cheryl Sosaya, Eddie and wife, Lucy Sosaya, and Raymond Sosaya and family; his nephews and nieces, Jessica and Valerie Sosaya, Patty Cara, Chris and husband, Tom Guthart, Eddie Sosaya Jr. and family, Melanie and husband, Todd Watkins and family, Gilbert, Eugene, Frank Jr., Barbara, and Loretta Sosaya and family, and Ray, Eileen, and Dave Laemmle; close family and friends, Viola, Rick, Kay, Laemmle, Bobbie and John Armitage Eloy Vigil, Karen Wisdom, Jerry Sweeney, Ed and Shirley Garcia, John Hooper, Pablo, Valerie Espinosa, Mr. Anaya, and (Jimmy, Marie, Betty Jean, and Ida) all of the Tucker Family of Colorado and numerous others. Mannie attended and graduated from Santa Fe High School where he was an outstanding athlete in basketball and track where he held the broad jump record for many years. In 1951 Mannie enlisted in the United States Military choosing the Air Force because he liked their uniforms best. Mannie served during the Korean Conflict for which he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Occupational Medal (Japan). After Mannie was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force, he returned to Santa Fe where he met and married Jane Burt who had moved to Santa Fe from McPherson, Kansas and had an only daughter Michelle. Mannie loved life, more than life itself and lived life to the fullest. He was an active Democrat and worked with the New Mexico Legislature for many years as well as a member of the Elks Lodge, VFW and the American Legion. He retired from the New Mexico Department of Transportation and then went on to sell insurance which he loved doing up until his last days. He's known for his fashion and style, wearing his beautiful suits and tie's, to meet with his clients around Santa Fe. Mannie also attending political and athletic events, and loved hosting barbecues and holiday parties to have his friends and relatives around him as he really enjoyed seeing people enjoying themselves and having fun. He also loved being surrounded by his grandchildren and family always buying them gifts and making them happy. Mannie had a generosity and kindness about him that he shared with whoever knew him. People loved listening to his witty stories about his life throughout the years, about politics, sports, and friends. We, Mannie's family would like to thank all of you who surrounded Mannie with your friendship, love, thoughts and prayers. Mannie will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will begin Monday, November 26, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. in the McGee Chapel with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. STILL -- Charles J. "Charlie" Still, a resident of Albuquerque since June 1959, passed away November 21, 2007. He was born January 5, 1934 in Union City, PA, the son of Charles Joseph Still and Alice McLeod Still. He is survived by his sisters Faith and family, and Maureen and family. He is also survived by sons, Kennan and wife, Roxanne; Michael and wife, Joby; daughter, Shannon and husband, Glen, of Albuquerque; son, Patrick and wife, Nancy of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Kyle, Shawn, Amber, Meghan, Alyssa, Jasmine, Ava, and Alanna; great grandchildren Karaya, Kiana, Xavier, Ashlyn and Jackson. THOMAS -- Mura Adkins Thomas died peacefully at the age of 95 in her husband's arms on Wednesday, November 21, 2007. Mura was a straight A student and a member of the Oklahoma Honor Society when she graduated from high school and her debate team won the state championship. Following high school, Mura worked for a law firm and for the legal division of the Federal Land Bank in Witchita, KA. In 1937, Mura married her high school sweetheart, A. E. "Tommy" Thomas. In 1938, they moved to Albuquerque, NM. During World War II, as Tommy served in the military, Mura worked as the assistant to the Budget and Fiscal Officer at Kirkland Air Force Base. Her many community and charitable activities included the Ladies Optimists Club, the United Fund, the Presbyterian Church, the Albuquerque Decedents of the Mayflower, the Albuquerque Country Club and Golf Association, the Petroleum Club, and the Daughters of the Nile. Mura was a board member of Up With People, an organization that supported young performers and sent them around the world as ambassadors for the United States. The Thomas' traveled extensively with these performers and along the way met dignitaries and people from all over the world. One of Maura's favorite organizations was the Albuquerque Little Theater. She was made an honorary member after actively serving on its board for over 20 years. Mura will be remembered by her family and friends as a excellent hostess, gardener and loyal helpmate to her husband, Tommy. Mura's mother and father were A. E. and Melenda Adkins. She was the oldest living member of her immediate family prior to her death. She is survived by her husband, Tommy, and many nieces and nephews. VARELA -- Ralph Varela born on December 30, 1940 and departed on November 21, 2007. A life-long resident of Pecos, NM. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Maria Varela.
