BACA -- Rose Tapia Baca was born August 3, 1910 in Albuquerque. She passed away Sunday, September 17, 2006 at the age of 96. Mrs. Baca was a caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablita Dimas and Ismael Tapia and by her husband, Samuel J. Baca. Mrs. Baca is survived by her two daughters, Valentina Pauline Baca and Adele Hundley and her husband, Tom; two granddaughters, Arlene Cinelli Odenwald and her husband, Ralph, Martha Cinelli Jones and her husband, Duke Forrest Jones; two great-grandchildren, Natalie Marie Jones and Samuel Forrest Jones. BRICE -- Alice Brice was born in McAlester, OK and moved to Albuquerque and received all of her formal education in Albuquerque. She received her Bachelor's and two Master's Degrees at UNM. Alice taught English and Drama for 32 years with APS, first at Manzano, then Eldorado, and retired from LaCueva High School. Her specialty was advanced placement honors English. She was the NMCTE High School Teacher of the Year in 1999; recognition from BYU students who voted her "the most influential teacher in their lives"; she served on the original committees to plan and implement honors/AP in APS; and on the original committees to plan and implement curriculum at both Eldorado and LaCueva. She studied on a National Endowment for Humanities summer grant at Harvard University. Alice served on many national and regional boards and committees, including National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She mentored many students and prided herself on her lasting relationships and fostering higher education. She was an avid Lady Lobos fan. Alice was a loving and devoted daughter, a wonderful sister, adoring grandmother "Ally", extraordinary friend, tireless community volunteer, and a staunch Democrat. She will be missed by all. Alice is survived by her mother, Ernestine Crouch; her sisters, Mary and husband, Bill Wilmarth and Lily and husband, Jim Curtis; daughter, Tracy Ahr; grandchildren, Emily and Hannah; and numerous nieces and nephews. CARRILLO -- Dominic (Nico) Paul Carrillo, age 26, beloved son, father, Companion, was called to his heavenly home by the Lord our Savior, Saturday, September 16, 2006. Dominic was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, and member of the Catholic Church. He was always a happy go lucky kind of guy, with a great sense of humor; he was the peacemaker of the family, always making sure everyone was getting along. Dominic enjoyed car shows and especially spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandfathers, Marcelino Dubois, and Meliton Carrillo. Dominic is survived by his precious children, Julian D. and Annaleise N. Carrillo; his loving parents, Paul Carrillo and Theresa Dubois; his loving long-time companion, Sara Masi; his paternal grandmother, Adelaida (Ida) Carrillo; maternal grandmother, Susan Landavazo; and numerous family members; and a host of friends. Dominic will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. A Rosary for Dominic will be recited this evening (Tuesday) at 7:00 p.m. at Holy family Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. CHATWIN -- Wallace Dayton Chatwin, 80, a resident of Bosque Farms, NM since 1997, died Saturday, September 16, 2006. He is survived by his spouse of 57 years, Nora; children, Susan and husband, Stephen Peterson, Lynn and wife, Joni Chatwin, Carolyn and husband, Rich Murset, Lorraine and husband, Dave Reschke, Kevin and wife, Shannon Chatwin, Sherri and husband, Jeff Thayne; 27 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria; and brother, Gordon. Before moving to Bosque Farms, Wally was a long-time resident of Taos, NM where he was a building contractor. Wally was a respected member of his community and well known for his humor and outgoing personality. He was an active member of his church. Services will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at 4:30 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on James Street, Los Lunas, NM and on Thursday, September 21, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Santiago Road in Taos, NM. CHAVEZ -- Marcelina "Lena" Chavez passed away Saturday, September 16, 2006 in Albuquerque at the age of 82. Mrs. Chavez was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Chavez; parents, Cresencio and Beatriz Lucero; three brothers, Tobias, Fidel, and Albert Lucero; three sisters, Regina Chavez, Lucinda Vallejos, and Nester Lueras. She is survived by her daughters, Stella Mascarenas and husband, Aaron, and Vivian Chavez; brother, Felix Lucero and wife, Stella; sister-in-law, Lucila Lucero; grandchildren, Chris Chavez, Estela Ulibarri and husband, William, and Cecilia Perea; great-grandchildren, Leya, Jon, Nathaniel, Antoinette, Jason, Mindy, Amanda, and Jesse; and many cousins and friends. She was also a mother and grandmother to many people. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening, September 19, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. COULSON -- Martha Gallegos Coulson, 66, of Albuquerque, loving mother and grandmother, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Presbyterian Hospital after an extended illness. She was born September 29, 1939 in Santa Fe, NM. Martha was a long-time resident of New Mexico and employee of the Wyndham Hotel for 30 years where she had many friends. In her free time, Martha was devoted to spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her long-time companion, Joe Quintana; son, Mike Coulson; daughter-in-law, Lourdes Camarena-Coulson; son and daughter-in-law, Myron and Sandy Coulson; grandchildren, Andrea, Crystal, and Emily Coulson; stepmother, Peggy Martin; brother, Herman Gallegos; brother, Gilbert Segura and wife, Naomi. She is also survived by her companions, Rufus, Sasha, and Fluffy. DEVLIN -- Edward R. Devlin, 79, of Albuquerque, NM, passed peacefully September 14, 2006. Preceded by wife, Beatrice, his soul mate and 3rd grade sweetheart. Ed and Bee had a love for life and traveled extensively. He will be missed ay all who knew him. Dad had an opinion on everything and was never afraid to share it. He was also very generous to all that were close to him. Survived by son, Tim and wife, Debbie of Albuquerque; Tom Devlin and grandson, Michael of Phoenix, AZ. DUGAN -- Joseph "Joe" Dugan, "King of the Road", 67, a resident of Farmington, NM since 1967, died Friday, September 15, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Dugan; daughter, Liz Jacobs and husband, Mitch; son, Joseph Timothy Dugan, all of Farmington; grandchildren, Seaman Autumn Killgore, stationed in Norfolk, VA, Joseph Killgore of Portsmouth, VA, Amber Killgore, Summer Popplewell, and Christopher Hutchinson, all of Farmington; sister, Gloria A. Scarcell of Albuquerque; brother, John W. Dugan and wife, Ann of Downey, CA; aunt, Frances Van Kirk of Albuquerque; and a large extended family. Mr. Dugan was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Dennis M. Scarcell. He owned and operated Dugan Trucking until he retired in 2000. Joseph was a member of Kirtland Catholic Center. He had been a champion sprint car racer. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be recited 10:30 a.m. with a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, 5415 Fortuna Rd. FORTNER -- Dorothy Fortner joined her husband in the Kingdom of Heaven Saturday evening a few months short of her 80th birthday. She led a full life. Born in Canada, Dorothy's family then moved to Detroit, MI. In her early 20s she lived in India where her father worked for Chrysler Corporation. After Dorothy's return she met Norman Fortner in Detroit, eventually moving to Columbia, MO where daughter, Sally was born. Dorothy moved to New Mexico in 1966 for the benefits of the dry climate. She was the office manager for Dr. Bennett and Dr. John Roberts for more than 20 years. In retirement she enjoyed reading, gardening, and her dog and cats. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Bart Koerner; sisters, Ann, Rose, Bette, Shirley, Pinky; numerous friends; and her little dog, Marc Anthony. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2006 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary. GALVAN -- Nacha Galvan, age 73, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 16, 2006. She was born on November 14, 1932 in Roswell, NM; and was a resident of Albuquerque since 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Galvan; and a son, Frankie Galvan. Nacha is survived by her sons, Tommy Galvan and his wife, Kathy, Johnny Galvan, Daniel Galvan, Jimmy Galvan and his wife, Sheri; her daughters, Virginia Garcia and husband, Arthur, Loretta Galvan, Frances Galvan and fiance, Richard Marquez; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, Domingo Fuentes, Raymond Fuentes, Joe Fuentes and wife, Gloria, all of Roswell, NM, Lupe Fuentes and wife, Kathy of Albuquerque; one sister, Estacia Najar and husband, Lencho of Roswell, NM; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. Nacha will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Nacha was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, where she was a Carmelita and a Guadalupana. She also volunteered at the Senior Services. The family wishes to express special thanks to the Vista Care Hospice Group for their care and kindness. IDEN -- Robert Earl "Bob" Iden, 80, passed away September 14, 2006. He was born on December 15, 1925 in Albuquerque. He joined the Navy following high school and served during World War II. He met his wife, Pamela, following the war and they were married on January 30, 1952. Robert earned two masters degrees from UNM in biology and administration. He taught in schools across Albuquerque for thirty-two years and continued educating others even after retirement with homework help, science fair project ideas, and love. Robert was an avid photographer who captured the scenes he saw in life for others to share. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and attended St. John's Cathedral. He is survived by his wife, Pamela, their daughter, Robin, and two grandchildren, Mark and Amy. Services will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at The Cathedral Church of St. John. JORDAN -- Alexander Jordan, age 31, a longtime resident of Albuquerque's Westside, was killed in action, while honorably serving his country while in Iraq, on September 10, 2006. Alex attended New Mexico Military Institute and Cibola High School. He volunteered for the U.S. Army in September, 2003 and was a member of Company B, 4th Battalion, Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 23rd Infantry Regiment. Alex is survived by his wife, Tiffany Jordan of Anchorage, AK; father, Robert Jordan and his wife. Cynthia, of Rio Rancho; mother, Candace Jordan of Miami, FL; sister, Lacey Jordan; brother, Rey Jordan; sister, Christina Jordan, and Nic Condon, all of Albuquerque; and grandmother, Polly Cane of Clearwater, FL. ROBLES -- ISABELLE P. Mrs. Isabelle P. Robles, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on September 16, 2006 after a long illness. Mrs. Robles is the beloved wife to Mr. Philip F. Robles, married for 54 years. Mrs. Robles is also survived by her children, June Robles and Wes Winters, Dolores Robles and Lawrence Gonzales, David Robles and wife, Suzanne, Tom Robles and wife, Diane, Paul John Robles and wife, Tanya, and Richard Dominic Robles. She is also survived by her sister, Dolores Nieto; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-randchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Romana Gonzales and husband, Jackie, Tom Robles and wife, Orpha, Joseph Robles and wife, Susie and Orlando Robles; a special niece, Joni Pacheco; many other extended family members and friends. Mrs. Robles was preceded in death by her parents, Abel and Margarita Pacheco; brothers, Fernando, Juan and Joe; and a sister, Lela Santillanes. Mrs. Robles was a member of the Catholic Church. WILLIAMS -- Karla Jeanette Williams April 5, 1962 - September 16, 2006 Karla Jeanette Williams passed on to a better place on September 16, 2006 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. An Albuquerque native, Karla graduated from Highland High School and the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. Karla's vocations were many, having served in food service, product sales and marketing, and most recently as a designer of accessories in her "Denim Dun Over" apparel business. Karla is survived by her mother, Sue Williams; her father, Truman Williams and wife, Alice, all of Albuquerque; her aunt, Sidney Jeanette Williams; and uncle, Ed Williams and wife, Gee Gee of California; aunt, Beatrice Evans of Colorado; step-sisters and -brothers: Kristie Walters and husband, Ken, Tom Newcomm, Nancy Newcomm, all of New Mexico, and Danny Newcomm and wife, Lisa of Florida. She is also survived by numerous distant aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins related directly or by marriage; and her special beloved dog, Tulip. A cadre of devoted friends from all over the country have expressed their love and sense of loss. Karla was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Almar Eli and Edith Evans; paternal grandparents, Ben Williams and Edith Williams Dunn and husband, Bill Dunn, all of New Mexico. Cremation has taken place and family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Karla's life at her father's house on October 21, 2006 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. The compassionate care of UNM Cancer Center and Lovelace Vista Care are acknowledged. Karla was a strong supporter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and she championed the fight with fellow patients, caregivers, doctors, nurses, and students. Karla's heroic efforts and relentless bravery in her struggle were an inspiration to all who came in contact with her and she served as a beacon to which the Earth sings, for she truly was the wind beneath our wings. ZURLIS -- Louis (Lou) J. Zurlis, age 92, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2006. He was born in Nashua, NH on January 1, 1914 of Lithuanian Parentage; he graduated from Becker College in Worcester, MA and moved to Burlington, VT, where he taught accounting for five years and where he met and married Helen Forville in 1936. They had four children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They moved to Metuchen, NJ where Lou worked at Johnson and Johnson Corporate Offices. He became Plant Comptroller in New Brunswick, NJ, later transferred to Dallas, TX. He retired from Peat Mariwick in Dallas, TX in 1979. Lou was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in East Orange, NJ where he was past Grand Knight, as well as in Metuchen, NJ. Lou and Helen relocated to Albuquerque in 2003. Lou is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Helen Forville Zurlis; his children, James Zurlis and wife, Judy of Richardson, TX, Ann Poynter and husband, Herbert of Albuquerque, Kathleen Hamilton and husband, Richard of Pagosa Springs, CO, and Marylin Buckley and husband, Pat also of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Pauline Veronick of Worcester, MA.
