BRANNING -- Reid Branning, 15, a resident of Rio Rancho for the last eight years, passed away May 26, 2006. Reid is survived by his loving family including his mother, Laura Moore and husband, Charles of Rio Rancho; father, Craig Branning and wife, Sheryl of Bonaire, GA; sister, Whitney Branning; step-sisters, Dena, Angela, and Dayna; step-brother, Jacob; grandfather, Ercell Branning of High Point, NC; and his best friend, Sam Wells. Reid had just completed his sophomore year at Rio Rancho High School, where he played in the marching band. He loved electronics and technology and enjoyed life to the fullest. Reid will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Visitation for Reid will be Tuesday, May 30, 2006, 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Vista Verde Chapel, Sara at Meadowlark Lane. CHAVEZ -- Beltran "Bert" Chavez, native born and raised in Peralta, NM, crossed over into Glory May 28, 2006. He was a member of the Monte Calvario Spanish Baptist Church in the Barelas area of Albuquerque for many years. He lived a happy, quiet life with his beloved wife of 55 years, Emilia, until the Lord called her home four years ago. He worked at Sandia Base before working and retiring from the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe railroad. After retirement, he continued farming, raising vegetables of chile, tomatoes and melons. His children have happy memories of traveling to Laguna and other pueblos to sell his bumper crops. He was known for raising and selling the juiciest, sweetest varieties of melons in the surrounding communities. Beltran served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He participated in the historic "D-Day" Normandy Invasion, Paris, Belgium, Germany and the Czechoslovakia Campaigns. He was a recipient of the American Theatre award, the European-African-Middle Eastern award, the Victory Medal and the Liberty Freedom Award for his participation in the Normandy Invasion. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, "Millie" in 2002; his parents, Abran and Adelaida "Alderete" Chavez; three brothers, George, Frank and Abran P. Chavez. Beltran is survived by his three loving children, Josephine Harris and her husband, Ben of Adelino, NM, Ida Beasley and her husband, Jim of Los Chavez, NM,and Bert Chavez and his wife, Vickie of Peralta, NM; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Quirina Garcia of Peralta, NM; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Romero Funeral Home Chapel beginning with a viewing from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen. FILMER -- CW3 Chief Warrant Officer David Paul Filmer, USA (Ret.), 52, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday May 26, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dorothy; three sons, David Christopher Filmer and wife, Jennie, Bryan Patrick Filmer and wife, Kori, and Jason Paul Filmer and wife, Kelley; eight grandchildren, Dylan, Savannah, David, Desiree, Ashland, Jadon, Jason and Isaiah; parents, Edward James and Hiromi Filmer; brothers and sisters, Mieko Bartow, Patricia Cooksey, Marvin Filmer and wife, Stephanie, Edward Filmer II and wife, Diane, Victor Filmer and wife, Toni, and Manuel Kuhn and wife, Julia; and numerous other relatives and friends who loved and cared for him. David was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Samuel and Felicita Kuhn. He was born on September 7, 1953, in Ft. Eustis, VA. David was a proud war veteran, serving in the United States Army until his retirement. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. GUTIERREZ -- Fanny F. Gutierrez, 96, passed away May 26, 2006. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph M. Gutierrez. She was a resident at Manzano del Sol and is survived by sisters, Adela F. Comiso of New Jersey and Ana Fischbach of Puerto Rico; brothers Richard Fischbach, Ernest Fischbach and wife Adria, Henry Fischbach and wife Carmen Lydia, all of Puerto Rico, and Frank Fischbach and wife Raquel of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2006, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Parish with times to be announced. HINE -- Eugene "Gene" E. Hine, 83, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, May 25, 2006. He is survived by his son, Stephen Hine of Albuquerque; son, James Hine and wife, Doris of Flemington, NJ; sister, Dorothy Grenard of Canon City, CO; and sister, Marilyn Kuhn of Lakewood, CO; and nephew, Max Grenard and wife, Maxine of La Junta, CO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Agnes Hine in 1964. Gene retired from Santa Fe Railroad after 42 years of service in 1982. He was a member of Hiram Lodge #13, Socorro Lodge #9, and Knob Creek Lodge in Temple, TX. Gene was also a Shriner and a member of the Elks Lodge. He was a loving and devoted father who raised his two young sons alone. Gene will be remembered for his extensive travels following his retirement and his many stories about his adventures. In his latter years, many hours were spent reading and spending time with his friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. JONES -- Alice Jones, 89, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006. Alice was born in Uppsala, Sweden and emigrated with her family to the United States when she was seven years old. She had two sisters, Birgit and Margaret, and one brother, Donald. Alice's maiden name was Hamilton. She attended the University of Chicago and received a degree in archeology. On one of her field trips, she assisted the excavation and restoration of Chaco Canyon. Alice met Daniel Jones while attending college and married him in 1933. She had two boys, Edward and Donald. They moved to Bartlesville, OK where her husband worked for Phillips Petroleum. Dan then received a teaching position at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Alice and Dan spent the next 17 years raising their sons. She returned to school and received her Master's Degree in Psychology in 1959. Alice worked for a short time teaching special education at a local Elementary school. She moved to Bakersfield, CA when Dan became the head of the Geology Department at the local college. Dan died there in 1984 and Alice moved to Albuquerque to be closer to her twin sister, Birgit. She spent 15 happy years involved with her church, St. Marks on the Mesa and going for walks with her dog, Andy. Alice was a kind, shy, caring woman who spent most of her life suffering under the dominance of men and women with more powerful personalities. She hardly complained and attended church regularly. Alice read the Bible cover to cover 13 times and each time she bought a new Bible. This helped her through suffering and helped her to forgive. I know there is a special place in the after-life for such women. Alice is survived by her son, Donald; brother, Donald Hamilton; and sisters, Birgit and Margaret. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE. MANESS -- James D. Maness. "Jim" Maness, of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2006. Jim served his country during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam in the US Navy and Air Force, retiring in 1967. He is survived by his wife, Carmen; sons, Joe, Bill, and Mike; daughter Mary Wilson; grandchildren, Tracy, Greg, Shirley, Leia; great-grandchildren, Haley and Ashley; brother Austin; sister, Ruth. A Memorial Rosary and Mass of the Resurrection will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2006, beginning at 9:30 a.m., at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Josephs Dr. NW. MARTIN -- Robert C. Martin was born on January 2, 1912 to Anna Bunton Martin and Henry Robert Martin in Duncan, AZ. About a month after his birth, his mother passed away, and he was given to his aunt, Elizabeth Tyson, to raise while his father worked as a cattleman and horse trader. When he was four years old, his father passed away and, thereafter, he was raised by different members of his family. While growing up, he attended schools in Lordsburg, NM, and Duncan, AZ. He graduated from high school in Miami, AZ, in 1930. After high school, he entered several business enterprises in Duncan, including a ready to wear store, a general store, and a meat market and restaurant. None of these businesses were very successful because he extended credit to everyone. In 1933, he eloped and married Ione Rose, in Lordsburg. Shortly thereafter, he and Ione moved to a cattle ranch near Red Rock, NM. From 1934 until 1978, he was actively engaged in cattle ranching near Red Rock, where he raised Hereford cattle. Whenever he had an opportunity, he purchased additional land to increase the size and capacity of his ranch. Over the years, the Martin Ranch grew to one of considerable size. In 1978, he and his wife finally finished raising cattle and sold the ranch. In 1945, Robert was elected as a director of the First National Bank of Lordsburg. In 1955, he was elected Chairman of the Board, and served in this capacity until 1995, at what is now known as Western Bank. Robert believed it was important to be active in the community. He was elected to the Red Rock school board. In 1952, he was elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives from Grant County, and served the citizens of New Mexico in that capacity until 1976. Upon his retirement from the legislature, then Governor Bruce King, appointed him to serve as a member of the New Mexico State Highway Commission. He was a member and past Master of the Lordsburg Lodge 30 AF and AM. He was elected to the Hidalgo County Cattleman's Hall of Fame in 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ione, on September 4, 2004. They worked side by side, through many difficult times, and he often referred to her as "the best cowboy I ever had." He is survived by one daughter, Anna Martin Wright, of Amarillo, TX; a son, Robert C. Martin, Jr. of Silver City, NM and his wife, Marie Parrish Martin; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Lordsburg Funeral Chapel at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2006, with Mr. Ed Kerr officiating. Interment will follow in Shakespeare Cemetery in Lordsburg, NM, with Masonic Services. Pallbearers are Michael Martin, Clifford Wright, David Braune, Chris Purkeypile, Bill Wright, and Walt Anderson. MYERS -- Doris L. Myers, (Dottie), 78, Air Force wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 27, 2006. She fought a courageous battle against breast cancer. She was born in Ft. Worth, TX, on June 30, 1927 and attended Texas Wesleyan College. She accompanied her husband throughout the country on various assignments during their Air Force career, with Kirtland AFB being their last assignment. She and her husband, Jim, have resided in Albuquerque since 1972. She was preceded in death by two sons, David and Richard; Frank and Mildred Avriett, her adoptive parents. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Colonel James B. Myers, USAF (Ret.); daughter, Mikal E. Meyer and husband Jim of Fairfax, VA; son, Jeffery J. Myers and wife Susie of Blacksburg, VA: grandchildren Joan Barrett and husband Michael of Springfield, MO, Jeff Meyer and wife, Karyn of Springfield, MO, Barry Meyer of Arlington, VA., Matt and Rachel Myers of Blacksburg, VA; and four great-grandchildren. ROMERO -- Marcos Romero, age 91, a resident of Belen, NM, for 40 years passed away May 26, 2006 following a short illness. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Griselda; his wife Leonor, the mother of his 12 children; his parents, Juanita and Juan C. Romero; his brother, Jose Romero; and his sister, Carmen Sanchez His wife, Julia, and his six daughters and five sons survive him. Rae and her husband, Rupert Byers, Trinnie and her husband, Robert Bridge, Gilbert and his wife, Lorraine, Rosie and her husband, James Maroone, Nancy and her husband, Jay Barnwell, Florida and her husband, Guadalupe Baldonado, Wilfred, Nellie and her husband, David Sonnenberg, Marcos Jr. and his wife, Sharon, Steven and his wife, Frances, and Juan and his wife, Ilona; 31 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; five brothers and one sister.
