Obituary for CHAVEZ

Beltran "Bert" Chavez, native born and raised in Peralta, NM, crossed over into Glory May 28, 2006. He was a member of the Monte Calvario Spanish Baptist Church in the Barelas area of Albuquerque for many years. He lived a happy, quiet life with his beloved wife of 55 years, Emilia, until the Lord called her home four years ago. He worked at Sandia Base before working and retiring from the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe railroad. After retirement, he continued farming, raising vegetables of chile, tomatoes and melons. His children have happy memories of traveling to Laguna and other pueblos to sell his bumper crops. He was known for raising and selling the juiciest, sweetest varieties of melons in the surrounding communities. Beltran served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He participated in the historic "D-Day" Normandy Invasion, Paris, Belgium, Germany and the Czechoslovakia Campaigns. He was a recipient of the American Theatre award, the European-African-Middle Eastern award, the Victory Medal and the Liberty Freedom Award for his participation in the Normandy Invasion. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, "Millie" in 2002; his parents, Abran and Adelaida "Alderete" Chavez; three brothers, George, Frank and Abran P. Chavez. Beltran is survived by his three loving children, Josephine Harris and her husband, Ben of Adelino, NM, Ida Beasley and her husband, Jim of Los Chavez, NM,and Bert Chavez and his wife, Vickie of Peralta, NM; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Quirina Garcia of Peralta, NM; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Romero Funeral Home Chapel beginning with a viewing from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen. Pallbearers will be two sons-in-law, Ben Harris and Jim Beasley, four grandchildren, Albert Chavez, Aaron Beasley, Jesse Harris and Joseph Steward. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen.
