BERENBERG -- Ethan Berenberg, 6, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, November 8, 2005. He is survived by his parents, Barry and Lisa Berenberg of Albuquerque; grandparents, Richard and Mary Chizmadia of Baltimore, MD and Edie Berenberg of Oklahoma City, OK and Steve Mindlin and his wife, Sandy of St. Paul, MN; his caretaker, Louella Castaneda; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. BUELL -- Chloe N. "Virginia" Buell, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico for 29 years, died November 8, 2005 at her home in northwest Albuquerque. Virginia lost in her struggle with cancer, dying from complications after surgery. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leonard K. "Bud" Buell, Lt. Colonel USA (Ret.) She is survived by her son, Brett K. Buell and wife, Sandy Buell; daughter, Dorothy Melloy and husband, Bill Melloy; grandson, Justin Melloy and granddaughter, Chloe Melloy all of Albuquerque. Virginia spent her final hours in her home under the loving care of her faithful family. Virginia's lifelong enjoyments included a passion for cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, and over the last few years, being "Nana." Virginia was an exemplary lady who lived life with great style, dignity and poise. She left an imprint on the hearts of family and friends and will be greatly missed, but will live on in our hearts, our minds and our loving memories. Mom, we love you with our hearts, souls and bellybuttons. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 11, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel. CANDELARIA -- Louis (Luis) O. Candelaria passed away on November 3, 2005. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on January 29, 1925 to Fred and Juanita Candelaria. He will be remembered as the one and only "Postcardologist" who dedicated his entire life to the production and sale of high quality picture postcards. He proudly served his country with the US Army in the Pacific during WWII. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two brothers, Paul and Fred; sister, Laura and a sister, Rose Sweetland of Whittier, CA. He is also survived by a son Greg and his wife, Glenda of Cypress, TX; daughter, Denise Lorraine Candelaria-Gunter of Bedford, TX ; daughter, Paula Marie Partridge and husband Roger of Bedford, TX; grandchildren, LouAnn, Tahni, Baylie, Dennis, Braden, Haylie, Torie, Paula, Evan Cole and Clay Ross. A Viewing will be held at Direct Funeral Services on Friday, November 11, 2005 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

CARREJO -- Ernest C. Carrejo, 80, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at his home in Quemado, NM. He was born February 17, 1925 to Juan and Ramona (Castillo) Carrejo in Horse Springs, NM. Ernest was a US Navy veteran of WWII and retired from the U. S. Forest Service after 25 years of service. He also served as Catron Co. Commissioner for 2 terms. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Trujillo Carrejo; brother, Willie Carrejo; sisters, Toni Martin and Julia Armijo; and three grandchildren. Ernest is survived by his daughters: Janie Armijo of T or C, NM, Cathy Carrejo of Jewett Gap, NM, Nettie Carrejo of Jewett Gap, NM, Tina Clawson of Ramah, NM, Dorothy Carrejo of Quemado, NM, and Edna Harper of Coyote, NM; brothers: Juan Jose Carrejo of Rio Rancho, NM, Roy Carrejo of Socorro, NM, Nestor Carrejo of Las Cruces, NM; sisters: Annie Jiron of Belen, NM, Lucy Armijo of Roswell, NM, Shella Jiron of T or C, NM, and Theresa Saavedra of Albuquerque, NM; 24 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, November 11, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Quemado. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Quemado High School Gymnasium. EVANS -- Henry (Hank) Evans, 63, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 after courageous battle with cancer. Born January 22, 1942 in Pomona, CA to Eloise and Otis Evans. His parents preceded him in death. Hank is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jan Evans and their son, John-Henry Evans; son, Roderick Evans and three grandchildren, Janessa, Cienna and Roderick, Jr. of California. Other survivors are, beloved step-parents, Irene and Rod Rodriguez of El Paso, TX; brother, John and wife, Polly Evans of Denver, CO; sister, Virginia Rodriguez and partner, Thrish Lindemann of Austin, TX; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Howard (Papa) and Dorothy (Meme) May of Albuquerque who love him as a son; and brothers-in-law, Gene May and wife, Robin of El Paso, TX, John May of Oregon and Howard May Jr. and wife, Doll of Oklahoma. A special thanks to Gene and Robin May and Meme and Papa for staying with Hank and watching over him in his battle with cancer. Hank has a special god-daughter, Haley Paternoster of Albuquerque, NM and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins who also survive him in death. Hank was a graduate of Austin High School in El Paso, TX. He attended UTEP College in El Paso and served in the U.S. Army National Guard. His passion was music and he was well known as a successful entertainer in the Colorado and New Mexico Areas. Hank worked at Qwest as a Network Technician and absolutely loved his job and the employees and friends that he worked with. He was looking forward to retirement from Qwest in two short years so he could play music in his golden years. He has left an imprint on many hearts of family and friends that can never be replaced. He will be remembered as most generous and caring man who was always extremely polite and treated all people with respect. Hank wanted a special thank you to to go to all the people with the Presbyterian Hospice Program who helped him through his battle. GATTERMAN -- Nedra R. Gatterman, 70, a resident of Albuquerque for 30 years, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005. She is survived by her brothers, Dean Gatterman and wife, Aileen of Albuquerque and Michael K. Gatterman and wife, Genevieve of Aurora, CO; two nieces, Kate Chapman and Becky Gatterman; three nephews, David Gatterman and wife, Melinda, Michael D. and Thomas Gatterman; one great-niece, Amelia Gatterman; one great-nephew, Lucas Gatterman; aunt, Mabel Payne of Albuquerque; and numerous friends. Nedra was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Edward and Helen Amelia Gatterman. She was born on a farm near Sublette, KS on December 28, 1934. Nedra graduated from Sublette High School in 1952 and then attended Garden City Junior College in Garden City, KS, Colorado Women's College in Denver, CO and received certification as a Registered Radiologist from the University of Oklahoma. She loved her dogs, loved to sing in the church choir and could play both the piano and the organ. Nedra also loved to do needlepoint and cross-stitch. For many years she was an active member at St. Paul's United Methodist Church and sang until her health declined. GILBERT HARVEY -- Jeanette Roxanne Gilbert Harvey, daughter of Col. Raymond H. Gilbert Jr. (deceased) and Gwendolyn Jones Gilbert, died October 16, 2005 of ovarian cancer. She was 53 years old. Jeanette graduated from Highland High School, ENMU, and received her degree in Medical Technology from UNM. She is survived by adopted daughter, Rachel Chuhua Gilbert Harvey, age 5, formerly of China; husband of one year, Steven Harvey; brother, Raymond H. Gilbert III and wife, Barbara; nephews and niece, Danny, Debbie, and Steven Gilbert. Jeanette spent three years working in Abu Dhabi before settling in Denver at St. Joseph's Hospital for the last 20 years. Jeanette enjoyed world travel, her lifelong dream of motherhood with daughter Rachel, and church activities.

GORDON -- John Joseph Gordon, 88, retired General Counsel with the law department of State Farm Insurance Companies, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Hermitage Gardens of Oxford, MS. The Funeral Service will be Monday, November 14, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford, MS with Father Joe Tonos officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, November 13, 2005 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Gordon served in the U.S. Navy as a Lt. Sr. Grade during WWII. He attended the University of Michigan, receiving a B.S. and a law degree. He was the Mayor of Richardson, Texas from 1967 - 1968. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Elks Club, Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Gordon of Oxford, MS; three daughters, Catherine R. Trimble of Ft. Worth, TX, Patricia A. Ekenberg of Carrollton, TX, and Lauren M. Alexander of Oxford, MS; one son, John J. Gordon of Bloomington, IL; three sisters, Carol Ingram of Greenville, MI, Margaret Hamm of Gollad, TX, and Judy Orum of Pahrump, NV; two brothers, James Gerhards of Corpus Christi, TX, and Karl Gerhards of Fulshear, TX; nine grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. GREENSLADE -- Alba Greenslade, age 77, an Albuquerque resident and a 25 year resident of Grants, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2005. A registered nurse, Alba was born in Detroit, MI. She graduated from Wayne State University in 1950 where she was a member of the first bachelors degree class in the school of nursing. Alba contributed greatly by working in various nursing positions in Idaho, Utah, and New Mexico. Alba is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, James, and two daughters; Gale Moore and her husband, Larry of Denver, and Gwynneth Colvin and her husband, Donny of Hobbs; sister, Vera Nowak of Detroit and her grandsons, Matt Moore and Chris, Cody, and Shiloh Colvin. HARRISON -- Vernon D. Harrison, born June 18, 1921 in Otter Creek, Oklahoma and a long time resident of Santa Fe, died Monday, November 7th, 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Mae Hunter and Albert Roscoe Harrison; his wife, Josephine Britton; a brother, Jerry Harrison and a sister, Virginia Harrison. Vernon is survived by his only child, Jo Ann Swinson and her husband, Derek; step-grandsons, Brian Swinson and his wife, Suzette, Kevin Swinson and his wife, Julie; step-great granddaughters, Emily and Sara Swinson; his sister, Geneiva Peck; his brothers, Darrel Harrison and his wife, Diana, Denny Harrison and his wife, Dorothea and Allan Harrison; plus several nieces and nephews. HERBE -- Father Donnan Herbe, O.F.M., 89, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on November 9, 2005. Father Herbe is survived by his sisters, Cecilia McKenna, Loretta Murnan, Ruth Butscha and Marguerite Pick, all of Cincinnati, OH; brother-in-law, David Murnan and sister-in-law, Delores Herbe of Cincinnati, OH. Father Herbe was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Marguerite Herbe, a brother, Jerome Herbe; and a sister, Zita Knapp. Father Herbe was born October 23, 1916 in Cincinnati, OH and baptized (Bernard). He took his first vows on August 16, 1937 in Cincinnati, OH and his final vows August 16, 1940 in Detroit, MI. Father Herbe was ordained a Priest on March 2, 1945 in Oldenburg, IN. He ministered in parishes in Cincinnati, OH, Louisville, KY, Bloomington, IL, St. Michaels, AZ, in Gallup, Laguna, Los Ojos, Lumberton, Pena Blanca, Roswell, Santa Fe, and San Fidel, NM. HETES -- Helga Elisabeth Brigitte Hetes, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away at her family home. She was called home to her savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, November 9, 2005, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Helga is the daughter of Robert and Magdalena (nee Klein) Schoenberner and was born in Radschuetz, Silesia on Wednesday, June 24, 1942. Her parents and her sister, Barbara Gerber, of Bayreuth, Germany, preceded her in death. Helga is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 45 years, Ronald A. Hetes; son, Ronald R. Hetes and wife, Debra; daughter, Ylaine R. Hetes; grandchildren, Jade M. Hetes, Michael A. Hetes, and Nichole E. Hetes, all of Rio Rancho, NM; sister Regina Patzer and husband, Floyd of Jeffersonville, IN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and associates after a 30 year career in the food service industry, most recently at NM Bakery Service Co. After retirement, Helga volunteered her time and artistic talents at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School. Helga was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and derived great joy from doting upon others. Helga was a humble, charitable and devout Catholic who always put others ahead of herself. She had a genuinely warm smile and pleasant hello for all of those she met. Helga would light up a room, always had a melodic tone in her voice and a twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes. She was a true follower of Jesus Christ, never questioned her faith, and without fail, she would recognize the positive in any situation. All who knew and loved her will sorely miss Helga, our Kolibri, "alles ist klar, Hans." HOFF -- Carleigh M. Hoff, age 55, lifelong artist/teacher/musician/writer/ dancer and remarkable friend to many, died Saturday evening, November 5, 2005 at home from complications of multiple myeloma cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends singing her on her journey with her own songs. She graduated from Scripps College and went on to attain a Masters in Design from UCLA. Her works in a wide spectrum of media first ranged from 3D environments, headdresses, and masks and shifted to costumes for dance, film, and theatre. She was later a librarian, and wrote and created children's literature and illustration. Her work most recently was in the realm of figurative sculpture. Residences throughout her life have included PA, NJ, TN, West Hollywood and Santa Barbara CA, Providence RI, East Hartford and Hamden CT. Her vast creative energies eventually wove together into doll art, for which she has won awards and had articles written. Many children and adults have been inspired over the years by her art classes and camps, and doll-making workshops. Much of Carleigh's figurative sculpture can be viewed at her website at greenspiritstudio.com. At 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2005 there will be a celebration of Carleigh's life at the First Unitarian Church, 3701 Carlisle NE at Comanche. Following the service of remembrances and music will be a reception with food, music, and folk dancing. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the humanitarian activities of someone close to Carleigh's heart, the spiritual leader and "hugging saint" known as Amma (see amma.org for more information). LOPEZ -- Armando Lopez Jr. entered the kingdom of heaven on November 8, 2005. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on May 11, 1972. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Miranda; maternal grandparents, James and Patricia Bright; and his paternal grandparents, Jose and Jovita Lopez. Armando is survived by his parents, Jeri Lelaine and Armando Lopez Sr.; sisters, Michelle Miller and husband, Tony and Stephanie Lopez; children, Latisha and Josiah Lopez, Jimmy Martinez, Destiny Baca, and Marissa Gauna-Lopez; and his nieces, nephews, many uncles, aunts, cousins, friends ,and loved ones. MARES -- Raymond Vincent Mares, 83, passed away quietly, Monday, November 7, 2005. He was born Thursday, May 18, 1922 in Albuquerque, a son of Nicholas and Abelina Mares. He married Sadie Chavez, June 17, 1946. They had five children: Raymond Mares, Albuquerque, Julie and husband, Thomas Montoya, Austin, TX; John and wife, Jeanette Mares, Albuquerque; Rose and husband, Joe Swallows, Albuquerque; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth and Judy. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sadie Marie; four sisters; and one brother. He was a member of the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, American Legion Post 72, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 401 and the Disabled American Veterans. OGLESBY -- Thomas S. Oglesby passed away on November 8, 2005. Thomas was born on June 20, 1935 in Waxahachie, Texas. He had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, and was a United States Army veteran. Mr. Oglesby is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jannett Oglesby; son, Scott Oglesby of Albuquerque; and daughter, Jill Oglesby of Los Lunas, NM. He attended Rice University, the University of Texas and the University of New Mexico. After employment with Sandia Laboratories for 30 years, he retired in 1992. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed activities such as sports (University's Lady Lobos), travel, reading mysteries, hiking in the New Mexico mountains, playing bridge, and working crosswords. SAINZ -- Tony L. Sainz Sr., 47, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on November 9, 2005. Tony is survived by two sons, Tony Sainz Jr. and Ronnie Garcia; one grandson, Matias Sainz; three brothers, Louie Sainz Jr., Edward Sainz and wife, Kathy, Robert Sainz and wife, Claudia; six sisters, Lita Cortez and husband Richard, Simona Cordova, Mary Lou Sainz, Rosalina Lucero, Linda Ramirez, and Mary Candelaria; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Josephine Sainz and a sister, Lupe Feliciano. Tony was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW by Father John. TILK -- Margaret "Muncie" Tilk passed away November 5, 2005 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was preceeded in death by her husband, John Tilk. Muncie was an only child and was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio by her parents, Theresa and Alexander Sass. Surviving are a daughter, Judith, and son-in-law, David Stoops of Albuquerque and a son, David, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Tilk of Medina, Ohio. There are also two grandsons, David and Jason and three great-grandchildren, David, Sarah and Mathew of Cleveland, Ohio. Muncie was active in singing, dancing and acting in many Operettas with a theater group in Cleveland. She also did a great deal of performing at The Vineyard Retirement Community where she lived. Her first love was her family. She and John had moved from Cleveland to Albuquerque in 1985 and he passed away in 1986. A brief memorial service will be held in The Vineyard Clubhouse at 6118 Edith Blvd. N.E. on Saturday, November 12th at 2:00 P.M. WELLS -- Ruth Wells, 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 1963, died Monday, November 7, 2005. She is survived by her sister, Helen Marie Fitzsimmons and husband, Robert L.; nephew, Tom L. Fitzsimmons, all of Grants; niece, Marsha Gjestland and husband, Robert, of Granite Bay, CA; great-nieces, Margaret and Holly Fitzsimmons of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer G. Wells. She was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church. Cremation has taken place.
