THOMAS -- Mary Elizabeth Thomas, age 98, resident of Albuquerque passed away Friday, November 19, 2004. She is survived by her nieces, Tommi Lou McConnell of Austin, TX and Mary Catherine Hudson of Gray, GA; other nieces and nephews; and special friends, Arlene Cates, Mary Lou Hays and Jennie Otero, all of Albuquerque. Mary was born October 6, 1906 to Dave and Sada Thomas in Junction, TX where her parents were born and raised. When Mary finished school she worked in Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Gallup, Grants, and Santa Fe when she decided that she had changed towns enough. In 1950 Mary settled in Albuquerque to work for the University of New Mexico until her mother came to live with her. Mary quit her job to take care of her mother. After her mother passed away, Mary decided she was getting too old to jump jobs and travel to another town and that is when she went back to work for the New Mexico State Engineer Underground Water Dept. which had opened an office in Albuquerque. She remained there until she retired. Mary and her friend May Scull started the Thomas and the Altaplano additions in the northeast heights in Albuquerque. Mary was never too tired or too busy to help someone that needed help. She thought it was a favor to her if you asked her to help or if she found you in need.
