BIRD -- Andrew "Andy" Bird, 55, passed away May 24, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Debby, children Andre and Shadae, mother Andrea Bird, sisters, Carlotta, Peggy, Audrey, Gloria and Danell, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Andy served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1975, was a Vietnam Veteran and a recipient of two Purple Hearts and Bronze Star. He was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 26 years and retired in 2000. He was a member of the DAV Chapter 3 and made that his "second home". A visitation and viewing will be held at Sunrise Funeral Options, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, from 5 PM to 9 PM with a "Celebration of Life" service at 7 PM. Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 27, 2004, at 10:30 am at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. CAMPBELL -- Mitchell Cody Campbell, beloved son, brother, grandson, and great-grandson, died in his sleep on Sunday, May 23 in the only home he knew; the home he loved. Mitchell was born on September 23, 1988 to Michael V. Campbell and Lynda Clancy, and was a lifelong Albuquerque resident. Survivors include his parents; an older brother, Douglas Campbell and his beautiful family which includes his wife Arishanda and their son, Ethan, of Loveland, CO; grandparents Wayland and Doris Clancy and Douglas and Carmie Campbell, all of Albuquerque; his special aunt, Sherry Anne Clancy and her friend Tamara Smith of Las Vegas, NM; great-grandmother Beatrice Rankin of Socorro; girlfriend Taylor Parnall; and many other relatives and friends. Mitchell was a loving and sensitive young man who touched the lives of countless people in many positive ways during the short time he walked on this earth. His friends called on him in time of need and some say he probably saved some lives. He was a ninth-grade honors student at Albuquerque High School where he explored the physical nature of the universe and carried a 3.97 GPA. His academic interests included the study of quantum mechanics, Einstein's Theory of Relativity, and chaos theory, with the goal of becoming a theoretical astrophysicist. Mitchell also loved to write poetry and short stories, and leaves his family with a collection of paintings and other works of art. His talents included playing bass guitar with his band, "Last In Office," the warm-up band at the Blue Dragon and the Launch Pad. He was an avid camper and bicyclist, a person of many interests and talents. Mitchell is also survived by his dog Tazz, his lizard Buddy, his cats Big Boy, Katarina Witt, Black Kitty, turtle Rina, his guitar and his band. Mitchell was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Family and friends will celebrate his life on Thursday, May 27, at 1:00 pm at Albuquerque High School. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Chapel, Wednesday, 4:00 to 8:00 pm. CARRICO -- Ancilla Giovannoni Carrico , the fourth of ten children born to Adolph and Rosa Giovannoni of Menoken , ND, died Friday, May 21, 2004, at Potomac Valley Nursing Facility in Rockville, MD. Ancilla was born September 11, 1909 and left North Dakota while still a teenager to keep house for her uncle, Father Alfredo F. Giovannoni, who left his home in Lucca, Italy to minister to the Italian immigrants working in the coal mines of Carbon County, Utah. She attended the College of St. Mary's of the Wasatch in Salt Lake City for two years followed three years in the Women's Army Corps from 1942 to 1945. In 1953, she married Paul E. Carrico, who preceded her in death in 1997. From 1982 until her husband's death, Ancilla and Paul were active as lay ministers at Risen Savior and Prince of Peace parishes in Albuquerque, NM. Ancilla is survived by a brother, Eugene Giovannoni of Westby, WI and a sister, Rose Thies, Portland OR. and by her husband Paul's three children, Jean Donahue of Henniker, NH, Peter Carrico of Houston TX, and Timothy Carrico of Rockville, MD. A private memorial service will be held in Albuquerque after which she will be laid to rest alongside her husband Paul.

CRAWFORD -- MaryAnn Crawford, 69, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 21, 2004. She is survived by her husband, John C. Crawford and her two daughters and their husbands, Jan Elise and Carl Cannon of Austin, Texas, and Lynn Renee, and Russell Cox of Alamo, California. She has 9 grandchildren; John Allen Cannon, Alex Cannon, Frank Cannon, Victoria Cannon, Jennifer Cannon, Cameron Cox, Regan Cox, Jonathan Cox, and Casey Cox. MaryAnn was born in Independence Missouri, June 29, 1934 to Loyal and Ella Northcott. Her father was a minister in the Christian Church so her childhood was spent in several towns in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma concluding with her graduation from High School in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in music and elementary education. She and John C. Crawford were married on November 26, 1955 in Ponca City, Oklahoma and they moved to Albuquerque in 1962 and with the exception of an 8 year residence in Danville, California they have resided in Albuquerque ever since. MaryAnn taught kindergarten and elementary grades 2, 3, and 4 early on but subsequently devoted her attention to caring for their 2 daughters. She and her family have been members of Monte Vista Christian Church since 1962. She is a long time member of the PEO organization, currently a member of Albuquerque Chapter V. She is also a past member of Albuquerque Assistance League. Her life focused on her family and their activities and more recently had expanded to include an intense passion and love for her grandchildren and all their activities. She loved to travel and was always intrigued by other parts of the world and other cultures. Her two favorite pastimes were playing bridge and tennis with her friends and intricate needlepoint designs. Her outlook was always toward helping other people even during the days of her illness. During the last stages of her illness she was extremely well cared for by Presbyterian Hospice of Albuquerque which made it possible for her to remain in her own home. Her life was beautifully lived by the depth of her relationships with her God, her husband, her children and grandchildren, and her dear friends. A Service of Celebration of her life will be held at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE, on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 2:00 PM. DAVALOS -- Vicente Davalos, 25, passed away Sunday morning, May 23, 2004. He is survived by his two children, Laryssa Rose Davalos, 4, and Vicente Davalos,2; his fiance, Laura Gabaldon; sister, Bernadette Davalos; mother, Norma Trujillo; father, Joe Davalos, and many grieving family members and friends. Vicente was a person who loved with his whole heart. He was very forgiving and genuinely caring. He was funny and liked to laugh and would do anything for anyone he knew. He adored and cherished his children, and he will be missed very much. For these reasons, and many more, we pray for Vicente, and ask him to pray for us. May his beloved grandmother, Lucy Hovey, and beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, family members, and loved ones who have passed before him, receive and embrace him in heaven, and tell him how much we love him and will miss him until the day we see him again in paradise. DOWNEY -- Inez Downey, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Saturday, May 22, 2004. She was born in Wise County, Texas in 1917. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Lacresha Matthews of Bloomfield, NM and Jean Gray and husband Frank of Midland, TX; son, Johnny Max Downey and Joy of Capitan, NM; granddaughters, Connie Straughn, Robin Schumacher, Cheri Miller and Jennifer Richardson; grandson, Johnny Gray; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Lela Floy Seago of Houston, TX; brother, Robert Foster of Midwest City, OK; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one great grandson. She was a loving mother and devoted Christian. A member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church, she participated in many bible studies and loved her church. Mrs. Downey was a charter member of the Young at Heart Choir and loved to travel with the choir in their ministries. Mrs. Downey enjoyed her sewing, crocheting, wood working and gardening. FOSCO -- WILLIAM DAVID FOSCO, 84, former resident of Deming and current resident of Albuquerque passed away Monday May 24, 2004 at his home. Graveside funeral services will be Thursday May 27, 2004 at 1:30 in the afternoon at Ft Bayard National Cemetery with Reverend Mr. Jerry Bustillos officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the Holloman Air Force Base Honor Guard. William was born May 20, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois to Dominic and Artemisio Malone Fosco. He enrolled in Civil Conservation Corp. at Charleston, West Virginia in January 1938 until he was discharged in December 1939 after serving in Ballantine, Montana and Charleston, West Virginia as a laborer. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Air Force of which included serving during WWII and the Korean War. He moved to Roswell in 1959 for assignment at Walker AFB and subsequently lived in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Silver City, and Deming before returning to Albuquerque in April 2002 when his wife Ina became ill. With over 20 years of service to his country, he continued as a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Pharmacy during the past 11/2 years. William was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Deming and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 4, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife Ina Caspara Nelson Fosco; stepson, James Arthur Miller and his wife Nancy Ann; stepdaughter Nancy Ina Miller, stepdaughter Susan Elaine Griffith and her husband Richard; 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. GOMEZ -- Robert (Largo) Gomez, 80, a resident and native of Albuquerque passed away on Monday, May 24, 2004 peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family. Robert is the beloved husband of 57 years to Mrs. Connie Gomez. Mr. Gomez is survived by his loving nine children, Johnny Gomez and wife, Nancy of Tucson, Arizona, Rudy Gomez and wife, Clareen of Edgewood, Michael Gomez and wife, Frances of Albuq., Ronnie Gomez and wife, Debbie of Albuq., Pat Gomez and wife, Isabel of Albuq., Yolanda Griego and husband, Jerry of Albuq., Rebecca Chavez and husband, Rudy of Bernalillo, Trish Graupner and husband, Michael of San Rafael, Ca., Liza Whitacre and husband, Hal of Sandia Park; two sisters, Emma Padilla and Alice Badillo; four brothers, Tony Gomez, Eloy Gomez, Fred Gomez and Joe (Tito) Gomez; 19 grandchildren,16 great grandchildren; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Mr. Gomez is the son of the late Antonio and Concepcion Gomez. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and Alfred and a sister, Margaret. Mr. Gomez was a member of the Catholic Church, a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War I I, an employee of th U.S. Post Office for 45 years, an avid baseball player and sports fan and for 25 years him and his sons were part of a fastpitch softball team known as the Gomez Gang. Mr. Gomez will be most remembered for his undying devotion to his life partner, Connie and his adoring family. A visitation for Mr. Gomez will be Thursday evening after 6:30 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm by Los Hermanos de la Morada. GOSS -- Hazel Mae Goss, age 92, died May 21 at Laurel Meadows Healthcare. Hazel was born in Coleman, TX, to James and Nellie Stevenson, on July 6, 1911. Hazel moved to Carlsbad, NM at a young age, where she later met her husband, Author Wayne Goss. They were married in 1930, moved to Belen in 1947 and raised their family. Hazel is preceded in death by her husband, in 1987; two sons, Kenneth Goss in 1999 and Everett Goss in 1987; and two brothers, William Stevenson and Gene Stevenson. She is survived by her son, Franklin W. Goss and wife, Elva of Millersville, MD; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren. HARVILLE -- James A. Harville, August 19, 1946 to May 8, 2004. My loving son, Tony, was born August 19, 1946 and left us, alone and lonely, May 8, 2004, to join his family and friends in a better place. He was a member of the New Mexico Air National Guard serving honorably in the Vietnam War, then retiring in 2002, after serving with the United States Defense Logistics, both in Colorado and New Mexico. He was a kind and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend, generous to a fault, always putting others first. He has left a void in our lives and an unfillable hole in our hearts. JACKSON -- William (Will) Jackson, 60, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 10 years, died Saturday, May 22, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Marley Tappen-Jackson of Albuquerque; daughter, Hollie Jackson of Maine; son, Alexander Jackson Ruthenburg of Massachusetts; mother, Primrose Jackson of Iowa; sisters, Betsy Raney of Iowa and Marcy Callison of California; and many other family members and friends. Will practiced medicine for over 30 years, practicing primarily emergency medicine. He received his degree from University of Iowa Medical School. He was known as a healer, musician and an artist. Will was a drummer in a local blues band and sang in a Renaissance group. During his life he enjoyed various sports including bicycling, cross country skiing, kayaking, sailing and marathon running. JOYNER -- Gretchen Joyner, 67, a resident of Socorro, NM, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 in Albuquerque, NM. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Dorothy Goetzman. Mrs. Joyner is survived by her husband of 28 years, Taylor Joyner; sister, Anne Goetzman of Port Orford, OR; cousin, Anne Campbell and family of Ontario, Canada; and sister-in-law, Connie Joyner Seidner and family. Mrs. Joyner did volunteer work for the Animal Protective Association of Socorro (APAS) and La Tienda Segunda (Thrifty). She was also active in the Socorro Tennis Association. Mrs. Joyner enjoyed Bridge, books, traveling, animals and gardening. She was a member of the Epiphany Episcopal Church. Services will held Sunday, May 30, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 908 Leroy Pl., Socorro, NM with Fr. Woody Peabody officiating. MAYNEZ -- Ermelinda C. Maynez went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, May 21, 2004. She was born October 9, 1927 in Questa, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ignacio Maynez. A wonderful mother and friend, she is survived by 6 children and their spouses, including sons Dennis, Paul, Patrick, and Rocky and daughters, Ermie and Carol. She had 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and services will be held Thursday May 27, 2004, at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph's NW, Albuquerque, NM. A Rosary will begin at 1:30 P.M. followed by a Mass at 2:00. Her remains will be buried alongside her late husband at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, TX, where a grave-side service will be held on Friday at 2:30 PM. NIETO -- Jimmy E. Nieto Sr., 68, went home to be with the Lord on May 24, 2004. He was born on May 19, 1936 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Nieto is preceded in death by his daughter Dorinda Nieto. He is survived by his wife Edwina (Edie) Nieto; son, James Nieto Jr.; daughters, Shelley Mora and husband Leroy, Roberta Zozaya and husband David, Nadine Nieto and Stephanie Nieto; brothers, Lawrence Nieto and wife Carla, Bruce Nieto and Mary Ann, Manuel Nieto and wife Vicky and Tony Nieto and wife Dorothy; sisters, Esther Sanchez and husband Joe, Lupe Vigil and husband Pete, Rorie Maez and Charlene Castillo; grandchildren, Marlon, Michelle, Mario, Marlene, Danielle, Matthew, Marlo, Sheena, Mikela and Marcos and great grandchildren, Mario, Marlon, Rudy, Brian and Mya. Jimmy will be deeply missed by his loving family. Visitations will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Anne Catholic Church. ROBERTS -- Richard "Ricky" David Roberts was born February 8, 1974 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Richard and Judith (Powers) Roberts. He grew up in the Albuquerque area, graduating from Cibola High School in 1992. During his high school career Ricky was was on the "A" honor roll and involved in football, soccer, and track. During one high school football game, Ricky scored all 24 of Cibola's points. He did this by being the wide receiver and the kicker. He also held the Albuquerque record for kicking the longest field goal of 55 yards. Following high school graduation, Ricky went on to the University of New Mexico, the Lobos. He was a walk on to the football team, eventually securing a full scholarship. During his football career there, Ricky tore all three ligaments in his knee. Ricky set the school record for weight lifting among wide receivers. He then transferred to Eastern New Mexico University on a full scholarship. This is where he played football and found a new passion of acting, graduating in 1997. Ricky worked on Wall Street in the late 1990's before moving back to New Mexico to be with his ill mom, staying with her until her death. While on Wall Street, Ricky worked in investment banking. He was currently studying for his investment license. Ricky was baptized August 2, 1990 with his father in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Ricky's hobbies showed his love of the great outdoors, including fishing, spear fishing, fly fishing, hunting and elk hunting. He loved being in the mountains or by the ocean and taking walks with his wife. He also enjoyed spending time with his dogs. Ricky was married to Jennifer Onnen on April 5, 2003 after knowing her for 5 months. They resided in Wappingers Falls, NY until August of 2003 when they moved to Cokato, Minnesota. Ricky passed away on May 18, 2004, at the age of 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; soon to be born daughter, Grace Judith; father, Richard Roberts; sister, Renee (Joey) Sanchez; brother, Russell Haway; mother and father-in-law, Tony and JoAnn Onnen; brother-in-law Matthew Onnen; sister-in-laws Kristin (Paul) Humber, Ruth Onnen, and Lori Onnen; uncles, Tom and Keith Roberts; cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Judith Haway (Roberts) and maternal and paternal grandparents Richard and Ceridwen Roberts. Memorial service to be held on Thursday, May 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the RioWest Community Church, at 6751 Pasilla Road NE, Rio Rancho, located off of 528 across the street from Rivers Edge II on Riverside Drive in Rio Rancho.

SANCHEZ -- Mrs. Rebecca Sanchez, 61, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2004. Mrs. Sanchez is the beloved mother to, Raymond V. Sanchez and wife, Debra, Lucy Romero and husband, Andrew, Timmy Sanchez and Mary Candelaria. Mrs. Sanchez is also survived by one sister, Verna Ortiz and husband, Frank; four brothers, Martin Purcella and wife, Josephine, Lawrence Purcella and wife, Bessie, Pete Purcella Jr. and Arthur Purcella; eight grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, cousins and friends. Mrs. Sanchez was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation for Mrs. Sanchez will be Wednesday evening from 6:30 pm until 7:00 pm at San Martin Catholic Church, 8301 Camino San Martin SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. A final visitation will be Thursday morning from 10:30 am until 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 am. SCOFIELD -- Eleanor Shoenberger Scofield, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday evening, May 22, 2004. She was a new resident of Albuquerque, where she moved to be near her son, Robert Scofield and his wife, Lynda. She previously lived in Tucson, AZ and Easton, PA. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband of over 45 years, Charles. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jarrod Scofield of Albuquerque and Amanda Scofield of El Paso; daughter, Carole Scofield; son-in-law, Lane Sykes of Lake Tahoe and Baja, Mexico; and sister, Phyllis Peterson of Pennsylvania.

WATERS -- Frances Waters, a dedicated mother and daughter, was called Home on Sunday, May 23, 2004. She is survived by her son, Samuel Waters Sanchez; her mother, Alyce Brasher Waters; her father, Thomas J. Waters and his partner, Betty Bradford, both of California; her sister, Connie Waters Vargas and her husband, Juan Vargas of Albuqueruqe; and uncles and aunts, Eugene Brasher and his wife, Vonnie; Stanley Brasher and his wife, Joan, Lester Brasher and Frieda Brasher; her son's family, Walter R. Sanchez and Walter and Cecilia Sanchez; numerous cousins, colleagues and many dear friends including Bob Carney, Carol Lovato. She was born in Los Angeles, CA, and moved to Albuquerque in 1963. She worked in the summers at Waters Dodge in Los Angeles. She attended St. Charles Grade School, St. Pius X High School, the University of Albuquerque, and UNM, where she received a degree in Elementary Education. She was active as a professional singer and actor. She worked as a teacher from 1981 until January 2004 for the Albuquerque public schools, where she flourished as a creative and talented teacher, and was truly loved by her students. She sang at the Aquinas Newman Center from 1981 - 1992. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church where, as a member of the choir, she used her voice to praise God. Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel with Cathy Garcia reciting. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, 9:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE, with Fr. Tom Lane. WILLIAMS -- Robert Owen Williams, 52, an artist, musician, teacher, and renaissance man, died Sunday, May 23, 2004. He is survived by his wife, D. Natalija Mataitis of NM; son, Soren Williams and wife, Mona of CA; daughters, Mette and Tristen Williams both of CA; son, Dylan Williams of NM; mother, Verna Williams of KY; sisters, Brenda Bangert and husband, John of CA and Bonnie Robertson of WA; brothers, Jerry Parman and wife, Parlee and Jason Williams and wife, Lisa all of KY; and many loving friends. He loved music and was a leader of the band, Maelstrom, for many years making and producing his own music. Robert was a writer, poet and designed and built his own home from scratch.
