BEVANS -- Barbara Ann Bevans, dearest, was called by God on May 18, 2004, after a long illness. She was born in East Las Vegas, NM on January 20, 1926. She lived many happy years in Silverton, Colorado before moving to Albuquerque in 1973. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Vivian Heydt Bevans; her sister, Billie Bevans Carter; and her loving aunt, Martha Heydt Sullivan. She is survived by her uncle, Francis E. CASALE -- Francesca Casale went into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Cervinara, Italy on Tuesday, January 22, 1929. She had been a resident of New Mexico for 32 years. Francesca was the most loving, giving and caring mother and grandmother. Her manner of living was evidence of her deep and profound faith in God. She was preceded in death by her parents Nunzio and Raffaela DiGregorio and her brother, Giuseppe DiGregorio. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Michele Casale; her three loving sons, Frank, Nick and Tony Casale and wife, Anita; grandchildren Michael, Nicolette, Nunzio, Alanna and Giannico Casale. CLARK -- Argie Lee Clark, a resident of Albuquerque for almost forty years, died on Sunday, May 16, 2004, in Austin, Texas. She was 79. Mrs. Clark was born in Lakeview, Texas, in 1924. The oldest girl in a family of eight children, she was a good student who loved to read. When she was 18 she married a handsome young Army officer, Orvill C. Clark. Together they lived in more than a half dozen U.S. states and in Germany. With their children Deborah and Stephen, they settled in Albuquerque in the 1960's. Mrs. Clark was a medical transcriptionist and an accomplished player of duplicated bridge, earning the designation of Life Master. She is best remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, Orvill C. Clark and her daughter, Debroah S. Rosenberg. Survivors include her son, Stephen O. Clark and his wife, Autumn; son-in-law, Arthur M. Rosenberg, MD; grandchildren, Rachel Clark, Robert Clark, Jessica D'Arcy, Kathryn Gonzales and Laura Rosenberg; several great-grandchildren; several siblings; and many friends. GALLEGOS -- Jose I. Gallegos, 80, went home to be with the Lord on May 18, 2004. He was born on July 31, 1923 in Jarales, New Mexico. Mr. Gallegos is preceded in death by his wife Bennie Gallegos and Edna Abeyta. GARCIA -- Trinidad Garcia, 97, passed away on May 14, 2004. Trinidad was born and raised in Magdalena, NM. She attended Loretto School in Las Cruces, NM and later attended Stanford University graduating cum laude. She is preceded in death by her father, Lorenzo Garcia and mother, Encarnacion Garcia; four sisters; one brother; and one nephew. She is survived by one nephew, Frank Howard, a host of cousins, and long time friends Mary and Prentis Jones. She taught high school in Magdalena, and elementary school in Socorro. GRIEGO -- Mr. Edward Ray Griego, 66, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on May 18, 2004. Mr. Griego is the beloved husband of 40 years to Mrs. Juanita Griego. Mr. Griego is survived by two daughters, Tina Gutierrez and husband, Mike and Lisa Ann Griego; five grandchildren, Matthew and Taylor Gutierrez, Sarah and Cassaundra Lucero and Stormie Mae Griego; three brothers, Richard Griego and wife, Alice, Charles Griego and wife, Lucy, Maurice Griego and wife, Chris; one sister, Rose Lopez and husband, Dan; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Griego was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during Peacetime. GRISWOLD -- Gilbert Ripley Griswold, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, died late Saturday, May 15, 2004 in La Vida Llena Health Care, in Albuquerque. Mr. Griswold is survived by his daughters, Miriam Schroeder of San Diego, CA, Martha Griswold of Berkley, CA, and Annette Griswold of Greenbush, WI; four grandchildren; one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Laura Fast Griswold. Mr. Griswold was born in Greenport, NY on October 3, 1911, the middle child of Clyde and Grace Griswold. He moved to Raton, NM at the age of ten and had been a New Mexico resident ever since. G.R. Griswold received two Bachelors of Science degrees from NM Tech in the fields of mining engineering and metalurgy. During the years of 1933-39, Mr. Griswold was a survey party chief and topographic engineer with the US Geological Survey, mapping rivers, dam sites, and reservoirs in New Mexico, Utah, Idaho and Montana, as well as an assayer. He went on to the University of Utah and earned a Master of Science in metalurgy. During World War II, he served in the Army specializing in ordinance, and was discharged a full colonel in the US Army Reserve. Mr. Griswold was president of Chapman, Wood and Griswold, consulting mining engineers and geologists, with offices in Albuquerque, Australia, and Canada. Even though placer gold was his favorite ore, Mr. Griswold was involved in uranium mining since its inception and was internationally consulted on the subject. He was appointed a member of the General Technical Advisory Commission on US Coal Research. He belonged to many mining organizations and a Rotarian. MAESTAS -- Mary Viola Tafoya Maestas, a lifelong resident of Santa Fe, lost a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the youngest and last surviving member of the well known Eduardo and Edubigen Tafoya Family of Delgado Street. She was born in the home she lived in for more than 70 years. Viola lived in Washington D.C. for a short time before returning to her beloved Santa Fe home. In 1944 Viola was a Fiesta Princess and was an active member of El Club Real for many years. She had many positions in County and State Government before retiring. She had many life-long and loyal friends, and was well known for her ability to laugh and cry with any friend in need. Viola and her husband of 52 years, Joe E. Maestas, raised five children, including Roberta L. Espinosa, David A. Maestas, Anita M. Kidwell, Joseph E. Maestas and Ted M. Maestas. Her grandchildren are Steve Espinosa, Chris Espinosa, Nate Gutierrez, Taylor Kidwell, Gabriela Rica Maestas and Isabele Viola Maestas. Viola and Joe traveled throughout the world and most enjoyed extended stays in the San Diego area. As a mother, Viola's children saw her as a confidant and someone who would encourage them to explore all that life had to offer, never discouraging failure. Viola's smile, wit, dichos, courage, friendship, style, companionship and love will be missed by her husband, children, grandchildren and many friends. NEWSOME -- Dr. James A. "Jim" Newsome, DDS MS, 67, a resident of Albuquerque since 1966, died on Friday, May 14, 2004. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, C. J. Newsome; daughter, Kim Shulz and husband, Jeff, of Denver, CO; son, Greg Craddock of Albuquerque; daughter, Suzanne Newsome of Albuquerque; son, J. Blair Newsome; brother, Jon Paul Newsome and wife, Susan of Sarasota, FL; nephews, Jon Paul Newsome and wife, Kris, and John Newsome and wife, Benagh; life long friends, Gordon and Barbara McMaude and their children, John, Michael and Heather, as well as many loving and supportive friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie H. Newsome and his parents, James A. and Marjorie Newsome. Jim was the first board certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon in Albuquerque and founded the NM Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He received his degree from State University of Iowa in 1958 and completed his D.D.S. degree from University of Iowa in 1961. Dr. Newsome was in private practice from 1966 until his death. He was a member of several professional organizations in Albuquerque and New Mexico. Jim also served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps. from 1964 to 1966. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Jim leaves an indelible mark on Albuquerque and in the dental community. He is remembered for his dedication to professionalism, compassion, and his willingness to help others, his great sense of humor, and his smile. PEREA -- Corrine O. Perea, 61, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, May 17, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Fermin; sons, James and Steve; daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Joanne; grandchildren, Kayla, Stephen, Sabrina, Brandon and Dylan; mother, Sylvia; brothers, Al and Fred and best friends, Mary & Joe Jaramillo, Nancy Salazar, Manuel & Josephine Lucero and David Montano; godsons Adrian Jaramillo and Shawn Lopez. She was a loving wife of 38 years who loved her children and grandchildren. She was known to her family and friends as Honey Bunny. Corrine worked for the Department of Labor for 30 years. ROMERO -- Cajetan "Cajey" Romero, 50, a resident of Albuquerque since 1963, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 18, 2004. Cajey grew up on a ranch in Colorado, haying, sheep shearing and working all the details of the ranch. He had owned and operated Romero Automotive. Cajey later became Maintenance Director for Gardunos of Mexico. He was a Christian man who attended Calvary Chapel for the past 8 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Harley rider. SAIS -- Ida Sais, 82, a resident of Belen, peacefully joined Our Lord and Savior, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Belen, on Wednesday, May, 19, 2004. Ida was born August 12, 1921 to Cruz and Eva Perez in Marfa, TX. In 1941 Ida met her future husband who was stationed at Fort Rustle, TX. On April 5, 1942, Ida and Ernesto Sais married in Marfa, TX. After Ernesto returned from WWII they moved to Belen for a short period of time, then moved to Hurlong, CA. They returned to Belen in 1951. Ida and Ernesto were members of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church since 1951. Ida worked for 12 years as an office nurse for the late Dr. Radcliffe, then for the Belen Consolidated Schools as a nurse's aide and secretary. Ida was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Ida is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernesto Sais; her first born son, Ernie Sais and her parents Cruz and Eva Perez. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Sais and his wife, Lorraine of Monrovia, CA; her daughters, Melinda and her husband, Terry Casto of Indialantic, FL; and Theresa and her husband, Robert "Bobby" McDougal of Belen; her sister, Elvira Rodriguez and brother, Elizandro Perez and his wife, Jessie; ten grandchildren, Diane Sheehy, Alison Mostert, Dante Sais, John Sais, Regina Blasberg, Garrett and Travis Casto, Cindy May, Melissa Plese, and Kyle McDougal. Seven great grandchildren Gabriella and Jenna Sheehy, Elayna Mostert, Regina Sais, Abby Blasberg, Breece and Caden May. A public viewing will be at held 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2004, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. STEWART -- William J. Stewart, 75, a native of Ontario, Canada, passed away Tuesday evening at his Northeast Heights home. Stewart is survived by his wife, Jean; three children, Jill, Patrick and Jack; and two grandchildren. Stewart was a banker and businessman in Colorado for many years. A memorial service will be held Friday at Grace Church at 6901 San Antonio Northeast at 1:00 p.m.

SUTTMANN -- Patricia Justice Suttman. May 13, 2004 at 3:17 p.m. left this world to join her deceased husband, Major Aloysius Thomas Suttmann ("Sutt") and our beloved Master. "Sutt" was a member of the New Mexico 200th Coast Artillery, a survivor of the Bataan Death March and a Japanese POW. Patti was his sacred widow. Patti was born in Dayton, Ohio, November 19, 1926. She and Sutt graduated from the University of Dayton in 1948. She is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia Aileen Suttmann of Albuquerque; her son and his wife, Clement Charles Suttmann and Holly Eve; their children, Logan Nicholas, Noah Christopher, and Christy Mara of Leland Michigan; her cousin, Reverend Robert Shields of Yakima, Washington; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Doll of Oldenburg, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. Patti was a devout Irish Roman Catholic, serving as an exemplary example of how to be a full, loving and giving being. For most of her existence she defied the odds. She was the role model for how to live an optimistic and happy life. She was a member of the St. Mary's Quilters group and the Cactus Quilters in New Mexico. A Memorial Mass will be held May 28, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. in Albuquerque at her parish the Church of the Risen Savior on Wyoming Avenue, and her funeral service will be held in Oldenburg, Indiana August 6, 2004 at Holy Family Church, after which she will be interred with her husband at Oldenburg Cemetery. SWEETKIND -- Irene Sullivan Sweetkind, 67, of Albuquerque, NM, died Friday, May 14, 2004 after a year-long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, David Sweetkind; son, Donald Sweetkind, his wife, Karen Smith, and their daughter, Reid Sweetkind of Golden, CO; daughter, Julie Sweetkind-Singer and her husband, Joshua Sweetkind-Singer of Mountain View, CA; and daughter, Beth Brockway, her husband, James Brockway, and their daughters, Melissa Brockway and Maggie Brockway of Ames, IA. She is also survived by three brothers, David Sullivan, Jr., Donal Sullivan and Kevin Sullivan. Irene, the daughter of Irene and David J. Sullivan, Sr., was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on August 25, 1936. Irene and David retired to Cochiti Lake, New Mexico in 1997 and moved to Albuquerque in 2003. She will be remembered for her love of history, her devotion to her family, and for being an unending source of strength and inspiration to those who knew her. A remembrance service will be held on May 28, 2004 in Albuquerque. SYLER -- Patton "Pat" N. Syler, 98, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004. Pat was born in Stephenville, TX, on Wednesday, November 29, 1905. He was the son and first child of William and Maggie Syler. Pat is survived by his son, Ron Syler and his wife, Nelmah Syler of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, Ginger Syler and husband, Kasey Hellmoldt, and great grandson, David Syler, all of Belen, NM; and nephews, Robert and Wayne Baker of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Bessie; his parents; his grandson, Grant Syler and his only sibling, Edna Baker. Pat was the son of a farmer and cattle rancher with homes in Texas, Oklahoma and Arizona. While growing up, he helped work the family places, participating in cattle drives when the family moved by covered wagon within Texas. The family moved to a farm in Phoenix, AZ by train, when Pat was eleven. He remained a resident of Arizona from then until January, 2001 when he moved to Albuquerque to be close to his immediate family. In Phoenix he graduated from Isaac Grade School, Phoenix Union High School and Phoenix College. He also attended the University of Arizona studying civil engineering. The depression ended his college days and he started working for the Arizona Highway Department. Pat continued to study on his own and became a registered Civil Engineer, specializing in highway construction. His career included working for the State of Arizona (District Engineer), Maricopa County (Assistant County Engineer), Coconino County (County Engineer) and private highway contractors. He was president of the Arizona Association of County Engineers for two terms and has been listed in the Who's Who of Arizona. Due to the nature of his work, he and his family lived in towns and highway camps all over Arizona until settling in Flagstaff in 1958. He remained there until 2000, when he moved to a retirement home in Cottonwood, AZ, after Bessie's death. In Flagstaff, he and his wife were members of Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church where he was the church Financial Secretary for 25 years. They had many friends with whom they maintained a very active social life. Pat was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Elks Club in Flagstaff. After retiring in 1972, he and Bessie traveled extensively in the states and abroad. Pat celebrated his 80th birthday in Bangkok, Thailand with Bessie, Ron and Nelmah. Pat especially enjoyed his 27-foot cabin cruiser and the many fishing trips to Glen Canyon with his friends and family. Services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2004, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE with Reverend Dewey Johnson, officiating. TAFOYA -- Sophie S. Tafoya, 75, went home to be with the Lord on May 16, 2004 with her loving family by her side. VAUGHAN -- Adele Vaughan attended the University of Massachusetts, graduating from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture. She worked for two years with the Federal Housing Authority on the landscape design of Army, Navy, and other housing projects. She later became a consultant for the Greenbrier Farms of Norfolk, Virginia. Mrs. Vaughan is survived by her sons Carder, Brewster, Roger, wife Beverly and grandchildren Lauren, Holly, and Dane. Mrs. Vaughan moved to Albuquerque from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where she served on the Mayor's Advisory Board in Parks and Recreation. In this capacity she was responsible for programs concerning the influx of college students who came there during Spring Vacation. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross and Executive Chairman of Junior Red Cross. Mrs. Vaughan served as Vice President of the Bernalillo County P.T.A. for two years. She served as Board Chairman for three years for the Albuquerque Youth Council, an organization sponsored by the City and Public Schools. She has served on many committees concerned with the welfare of children including the Los Lunas School in Los Lunas, NM. During two summers she worked under a federal grant at the Girls Welfare Home in Albuquerque, directing a tutoring program for youth in confinement. Mrs. Vaughan has been actively concerned with good government, serving and working on the charter Revision for Democratic Party. Mrs. Vaughan was a substitute teacher of eight years standing in secondary math in Albuquerque Public Schools. She also is President of Alfa Enterprises Inc., a business which she took over on the death of her husband. Mrs. Vaughan is well known and liked for her dedication to community improvement and a more meaningful life of all children. She is a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Church, and is a member of St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary. She has served on the National Committee for the support of Public Schools from 1965 to 1968. For her work in this area she received an award from Judge Edwin Swope, presiding Juvenile Judge for her contributions to the lives of children in the City of Albuquerque. A Rosary will be held at Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 21, 2004 at 9:30 am at St. Charles Borromeo Church.
