Atsye -- Joseph D. Atsye Sr, a loving husband, father, son, grandfather and uncle, was born September 29, 1928 at Laguna Pueblo, NM. He was a resident of Albuquerque, NM. since 1973 and passed away on Monday, March 24, 2003 after a courageous three year battle with pulmonary complications. Mr. Atsye was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Joseph Atsye and Alice Marmon Atsye of Laguna Pueblo, NM.; brothers, Michael and Everett Atsye; sisters, Emerald Leija and Geraldine Rice. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 49 years, Agnes R. Atsye; daughter, Thelma Jean Atsye; sons, Gerald A. Atsye and wife, Ina, Everett M. Atsye and wife, Lee, and Joseph (Joe) Atsye Jr.; grandchildren, Leenlcun Baca, Charlie, Ashley, Heather, Kelly, Jessica, and Alexandra Atsye. Mr. Atsye was raised at Laguna Pueblo and attended the Laguna Day School. He was a graduate of Albuquerque Indian School, where he participated and lettered in football, basketball and track. Mr. Atsye was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and Honorably Discharged with the Rank of Sgt. He was an electrician by trade with an emphasis in Industrial Electricity and Electronics. In California he worked for Douglas Aircraft, Santa Fe Railroad and JPL/NASA. Upon his return to New Mexico he was employed by Kirtland AFB until his retirement with 20 years of service as an Electrical Supervisor in the Civil Engineering Department. He was very active in the Little League, Boy and Girl Scouts, High School Booster Clubs and the Albuquerque Laguna Colony. Before his illness, he was an active and participating Tribal Member who strongly believed in his culture, language, customs and traditions. Mr. Atsye was a charter member of Sandia Presbyterian Church (USA) and served on the Santa Fe Presbyterian Council, Native American Ministries and Sandia Presbyterian Church Men's Bible Study Group. Services will be held at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10724 Paseo del Norte NE., on Friday, March 28, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. A Visitation will be held before and after the service. Burial will be at the Pueblo of Laguna Cemetery on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Mr. Atsyes¯ sons, grandsons, and nephews. Bower -- Harold Henry Bower, March 17, 1926 - March 22, 2003. Harold met the angels on Saturday evening in a Denver nursing home. He lived with Barbara and Steven for many years in Bosque Farms, NM and moved back to Torrington, Wyoming three years ago. He especially enjoyed horses but he also enjoyed farming and working with farm animals, which he did until he became ill. His daughters, Karen Hollingsworth, Enola Koerselman and families wish to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers over the last years. He was preceded in death by his son, Roger Dean Bower; and Barbara's son, John Alan Copeland; he also lost his mother, father; two brothers; and a sister. he loved his family very much but especially enjoyed all of his grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Memorial Services will be in Torrington, Wyoming on Monday, March 31, 2003 at 11:00 a.m.

Chapman -- Joan Elizabeth Wallace Chapman, age 73, beloved mother and wife, passed into God's hands on March 24, 2003. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Walt, and their children and families, Mike, Beverly, and Billy of Santa Fe, and Cindy of Albuquerque; and by her brother, Ted Wallace of Fort Worth, Texas and all the Wallace families. Grandmother of six, her family was always most important in her life. She made people all around her feel a part of her family and opened her heart, home, and family to several foreign exchange students. Joan came to Santa Fe in 1966 with Walt to start their building company. She served as President of the Women's Division of the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce for two terms, and was the first Women's Division President to serve on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She had a great love for travel, and animals. Throughout her life she was surrounded by the love of her dogs and cats. No one was ever turned away at her door. She shared her love and laughter with all those around her and wanted nothing but happiness for all she cared for. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church. Interment will take place on Friday, March 28, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Salvation Army. Chavez -- Jose D.F. Chavez, 78. On March 24, 2003 Jose D.F. Chavez completed his life's journey. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children as he peacefully passed away. He was a long time resident of New Mexico, born in Tucumcari. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church. He proudly served his country in World War II and worked 14 years with the Santa Fe Railroad. He retired from civil service after several years with Cannon and Kirtland Air Force Bases. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo Feliciano and Meteria Chavez; three brothers; two sisters; one daughter, Angela Bibiano; and one son-in-law, Santiago Maez. He is survived by his wife, Nora M. Chavez; sons and daughters, Navor and Margaret Chavez of Las Cruces, Helena Maez, Ernesto and Ruby Chavez, Joe and Margie Chavez of Roswell, Richard and Carmen Chavez, Antonio and Linda Valdez, Ruben Bibiano, Tomas and Rose Huerta of Clovis, Bennie and Mary Ann Torres, John and¯ Dolores Sanders of Del Rio, Texas, Tim and Terry Chavez, Norma Sena, Mark and Angie Chavez, Dorothy Chavez, Bobby and Nina Chavez, Martin and Desiree Chavez, Andrew and Clara Chavez; 33 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dominguez -- Eric Lee Dominguez, 35, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past eight years, and before that had lived in Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2003. Eric was born March 29, 1967 the son of Andrew and Alice Gallegos Dominguez in Espanola, New Mexico. Eric was a mechanical designer and was self employed. He served in the US Marine Corps. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, was a passionate musician, an accomplished drummer, a bike rider, very athletic, coached little league, was a drum teacher, and he loved his family very much. Eric is survived by his wife Priscilla of the family home; four children, Andrew, Adrian, Selena, and Santana, all of Rio Rancho; his parents, Andrew and Alice of Espanola and Rio Rancho; grandmother, Cleo Dominguez of California; one brother, Darryl Dominguez and fiance Rosemary Gutierrez of Albuquerque; mother and father-in-law, Enrique and Julia Cordova; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Cordova-Rael, Lori Sedillo, Linda Cordova-Borunda; brothers-in-law, Dennis¯Cordova, Ray Sedillo, Edward Cordova, Steven Cordova, and Ray Cordova;¯Godmother and aunt, Tillie Maestas, Aunts, Marcie Ortiz, Flora Martinez, and Betty Ortiz; uncles, Mike Garcia, Sonny Garcia, Donald Gallegos, and Leandro Dominguez; he will be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Fitzgerald -- Reverend Father John Watson Fitzgerald Jr., a priest of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, passed to his eternal reward Sunday, March 23, 2003. Fr. Fitzgerald was the son of John Watson Fitzgerald Sr. and Mary Catherine McMahon. He was born May 31, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan. He is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Schneeberger of Rockford, Illinois; a brother, Robert (Mac) Fitzgerald of Detroit, Michigan; three nieces; four nephews; and also a longtime friend and nurse, Cecile Powell. He grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and attended Marquette University High School. After high school, he attended Maryknoll Apostolic College in Pennsylvania. He then entered the University of Arizona in Tucson. In June of 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Force. He served in the European, African and Middle East theaters. After his Honorable Discharge from the service in March of 1946, he started his studies for the priesthood. He entered the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Santa Fe. He continued his major seminary studies at St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, Colorado. He received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from St. Thomas Seminary. He was ordained May 23, 1953 by Archbishop Edwin Vincent Byrne in St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His first Solemn High Mass was celebrated on his 32nd birthday, May 31, 1953 in St. Roberts Church in Shorewood, Wisconsin. Father's first assignment was to return as an English teacher at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Santa Fe. Later, he was assigned as one of the founding faculty of St. Pius X High School in Albuquerque. After teaching, he was assigned to be the first and founding pastor of Holy Child Parish in Tijeras. Father later served for 15 years as the Archdiocesan Director of Propagation of Faith. Father also served in several other parochial assignments. Father's last assignment was as a hospital chaplain in Albuquerque, which ministry he continued long into his retirement. Vigil and Rosary will be celebrated Thursday, March 27th at Queen of Heaven Parish at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday, March 28th, at 10:00 a.m., Queen of Heaven Parish, 5311 Phoenix Ave. NE. Fulmer -- David Fulmer, born on January 5, 1950, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2003. He was a resident of Rio Rancho, a US Marine, a member of the National Guard and an important supporter of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. When we opened our newspapers during the balloon fiesta, it was David's picture, all dressed up in his top hat and tails, that we saw directing the launch of the balloons. His spirit will continue to soar over our blue skies. His mother, Helen Fulmer; close family friend, Bob Steager; his brother, Wesley Fulmer; niece, Jayme Lytle; and nephew; Ryan Fulmer-Lytle survive him. Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2003 at Sunrise Funeral Home, 2400 Southern Blvd., Rio Rancho. Gallagher -- Thomas Patrick"T.P." Gallagher, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1929 passed away at his home on March 26, 2003. Prior to his retirement, he was in the shipping and molasses business and owned and operated New Mexico Timber Co. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gallagher; and children, Thomas"Terry" Gallagher, III of San Diego, CA, David of Santa Cruz, CA, Ron Smith of Carlsbad, NM and Joe Gallagher and Melinna Giannini of Albuquerque. Palanker -- Dr. Harold K. Palanker, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since January 1, 1979, died Monday, March 24, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Palanker of Albuquerque; daughters, Maureen Leshendok and husband, Thomas of Reno, NV, Robin Palanker and Leonard Crofoot of Los Angeles, CA, Leslie Palanker and husband, J. F. Dufresne of Paris, France and Abby Gail Palanker of Los Angeles, CA; and grandsons, Joseph Dufresne and Luc Dufresne of Paris, France. He was born in Romania and immigrated to the United States in 1930 at the age of 17. Dr. Palanker attended Medical School at the University of Buffalo where he graduated in 1940. He served in the United States Army as a Major in the Medical Corps during WWII. Upon his return, he completed his residency at Buffalo General Hospital. He met Janice Powsner and they were married on May 9, 1948 during his residency. He then went into private practice and was also Full Attending in Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo and Associate Attending and Active Service Teaching Division at Buffalo General Hospital. He was Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Buffalo, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Palanker served as president of the Buffalo Surgical Society, the Western New York Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and the Maimonides Medical Society. He retired from private practice in 1979 to move to Albuquerque where he was connected to the Veteran's Hospital in the Ambulatory Care Unit for eight years. He was an avid golfer and member of the Four Hills Country Club. Dr. Palanker loved playing the violin and also spoke several languages. Memorial Services will be held Friday, March 28, 2003, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Panzner -- Betty A. Panzner, a resident of Albuquerque passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003 at Paloma Blanca Health Service. She is survived by her husband, E. Platt -- Simone"Jeanne" Platt passed away March 23, 2003. She is survived by her sons, Bob Platt and wife, Cheryl, Philip Platt, and Brian Platt; and daughter, Leyla Pepper; grandsons, Josh and Jake Moody and Robbie Platt. Cremation has taken place. Saavedra -- Mr. Gilbert L. Saavedra died Monday, March 24, 2003 in Albuquerque at the age of 74. Mr. Saavedra was a U.S. Army Veteran. He is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Saavedra and son, Luciano Saavedra. Mr. Saavedra is survived by his children, Frances Sanchez and husband, Cris, Gilbert Saavedra, Raymond Saavedra, Theresa Becerra, Bernie Loranca and Chris Saavedra; brother, Isidro Saavedra; sister, Flora Sanchez; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Thompson -- Randy Thompson. After a lengthy and courageous battle with heart disease he passed peacefully to be with the Lord on March 23, 2003. Walters -- Dorothy Jane Cloud Walters went home March 25, 2003 after 84 years. She was reunited with her husband, Harold Walters after he waited 27 years for her. She has gone to prepare a place for her daughters, Dorothy Barth and husband, Don, Vicki Maxwell, and Carol Bewley; as well as their families, grandsons, John Ayala, Eric Bewley and wife, Stacy, Chad Maxwell and wife, Angel of Leander, TX, Staff Sgt. Rick Maxwell USAF, and Matthew Barth;,granddaughters, Jeannette Yarbrough and husband, Mike, and Brooke Bewley and fiancee, Jesse Baldwin; great-grandsons, Tryston and Dawson Bewley; great-granddaughter Kayla Yarbrough. She was a very active member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church and many people look forward to reuniting with her. She will be remembered by many for her sense of humor, lovely white hair, and her"sparkley" cane. Services will be Saturday, March 29, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming NE 823-9400.

Wood -- Eulalia"Maxine" Wood of Los Lunas passed away Tuesday March 25, 2003 at the age of 78. She was born to Wiley and Verda Boyles April 19, 1924 in Roosevelt County, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Patsy Ann; grandson, Stephen Cannon; three brothers; and one sister. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dave Wood of Los Lunas; son, Aubrey Cannon and lady friend Susy Leviner; grandchildren, Scott Pierce and girlfriend Cassie Castillo of Paradise, TX, Aubrey Gene Cannon, Jr. of Houston, TX, Stacey Fitzwater and husband TJ of Pagosa Springs, CO and Julie Cannon of Missoula, MT; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday, 9:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will be at 12:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Ziegler -- Carl T. Ziegler, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, March 24, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Norma Ziegler; children, Maryland Pattison, Carl B. Ziegler, Kristie Eaton and husband, Gil, Cathy Humble and husband, Mike, Denise Cox and husband, Buddy and Terry Glaspie; grandchildren, Jason Pattison, Bryan Eaton and wife, Christine, Daniel Ziegler, Angela Eaton, Kimberly Eaton, John Alan Glaspie, Courtney Cox, Alexandra Cox, Carl Glaspie, Sarah Glaspie and Mackenzie Cox; one great-grandchild, Jordan Cassidy Eaton; two brothers, Leland Ziegler and wife, Lou and Glen Ziegler and wife, Louise; two sisters, Eva Miller and husband, Norman and Emily Deeter and husband, Jim; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Carl was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was fleet superintendent for S & V Trucking and Schwartzman Packing Co. and owner/operator of Ziegler's Truck Repair. Carl was a Master Mason and member of Temple Lodge #6 AF & AM, and the Scotish Rite. He was well known throughout New Mexico in both the trucking and cattle industry.
