Alarid -- Del P.¯"Pop" Alarid, beloved father, grandfather, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2001, at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lydia Garcia Alarid. He is survived by his sons, Del O. Alarid and wife, Kaylene of Corrales, David Alarid of Albuquerque, Rick Alarid and wife, Martha of Corrales; daughter, Rita Sanchez and husband, Alfred of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many beloved friends. Pop was a lifetime resident of Albuquerque, and a member of St. Therese Little Flower Church. He worked for the Federal Government as an auditor for 35 years. After retiring, Pop still would not stop and continued working for another 20 years. Pop loved to work with his hands and enjoyed building campers. He also had a love of RV's, and one of his greatest pleasures was trips that he and mom made, especially to Alaska. Pop had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories. He will be greatly missed. Rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Deacon Manuel Montoya reciting. Private graveside services will be held. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Sunday, 4:00 p.m. until Rosary. Benham -- Florence Elizabeth Benham was born in Denver, CO in 1914. She spent her early years in Colorado, and graduated from Greeley High School in 1932. She married Robert G. Benham in 1937 in Gallup, NM. They moved to Albuquerque in 1945. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Benham, and their daughter, Nancy Lee Cooper. She is survived by her son, Robert A. Benham and wife, Susan; her daughter, Mary Joan Windes and husband, Thomas Windes, all of Albuquerque; She has seven grandchildren; three nieces; a nephew; one great-granddaughter; and sister-in-law, Virginia Shanks of Denver. Florence and Bob became members of First United Methodist Church and the Quester¯s class in 1945, and have remained continuous and faithful supporters ever since. Florence was active as a Sunday school teacher, and as a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a loyal, supportive and well loved wife and mother, always giving her time and love to her family and many friends. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2001 with Dr. Terry Anderson officiating. Following the service, remains will be buried at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carl Williams, Jim Yeager, Don Williams, Connor Windes, Todd Windes and Alan Benham. Collins -- Hughie Beatty ¯Mez¯ Collins, 97, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, February 20, 2001. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on November 27, 1903, the daughter of Hughie Duffee and Isaac Croom Beatty, Jr. In 1931, she married Ashton Budd Collins who was then working for Alabama Power Company; he died in 1976. He was the creator of Reddy Kilowatt, a popular advertising symbol used by electric power companies worldwide. She is survived by her son, Ashton B. Collins, Jr. and wife, Susan of Placitas and her son, Croom Beatty Collins and wife, Helen of Minnetonka, MN. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Kelly Collins of Minneapolis, Ashton Collins III of Dallas, Kimball Collins of Tucson, and Timothy Collins; and by three great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted in Birmingham, AL by the Episcopal Cathedral Church of the Advent. Memorial gifts are neither encouraged nor expected; however, any such may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association, 919 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1100, Chicago, IL 60611-1676. Correa -- Gilbert T. Correa Sr., 72, a resident of Albuquerque for 50 years, passed away February 24, 2001. He was born and raised in Hawaii, and during Pearl Harbor as a Boy Scout, his troop helped tremendously with the clean up efforts. He graduated high school from St. Louis Academy and the day following graduation enrolled at CalTech in Glendale, California and received his engineering degree. When the Korean Conflict began he entered the Air Force. He was a Civil Engineer at Kirtland Air Force Base and retired from civil service in 1983. After retirement, he worked as a security guard at Tanoan and was loved by all the residents, young and old. He enjoyed telling his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren Hawaiian folklore including,"Menehunes" and the"Red Hand". He enjoyed restoring classic cars and race cars, and attending these races with friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antone T. and Irene Correa; a daughter, Dolores"Lona" McLaughlin; and a son, Anthony Robert Correa. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lavinia Correa; children, Gilbert Correa Jr. and wife, Linda, Steve Correa and Kitty Cooper, Danny Correa, and Denise Whitfield and husband, Harry; son-in-law, Jim"Juice" McLaughlin; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Eva Ahol of Hawaii; and brother, Ted Correa of Hawaii; sisters-in-law, Dolly Woody, Rose Lujan and husband, Al, and Vickie Montoya, Olivia Keifer and husband, Larry; and brother-in-law, Carlos Montoya and wife, Betty. Cunningham -- Edward J. (Granpa) Cunningham, 45, quietly passed away in his sleep February 23, 2001. He was a very loving husband and father of three kids, David-19, E.J.-12, Jolene-10, and his wife, Robyn. Gouett -- Charles Sidney "Sid" Gouett, Jr., 67, loving husband, devoted father, and caring grandfather, passed away unexpectly on February 22, 2001. He was an outstnading athlete at Bishop Union High School, Bishop, California, and went on to play football for Witchita State. He was proud to have served his country in the Armed Forces. He became an accomplished real estate entrepreneur but was most successful with his family. He supported each family mamber in whatever dreams and aspirations they may have had. Sid loved to tell stories and he made everyone smile because we all knew his colorful stories stretched the truth a bit. He was creative with his hands, in the kitchen, wood shop, and the garden. He was an avid fisherman. Sid loved a variety of sports and was especially a big Lobo and Rams fan. Watching classic western movies was his favorite pastime and he knew where most of them were filmed. He was full of life and could easily make friends with 500 people on a cruise ship in three days. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Sue of the family home; his children and step-children, Krysti Gouett of CA, Pat Hulse and Suzette of Rio Rancho, Neil Gouett and Laurie of Thousand Oaks, CA, Shawna Hulse of Albuquerque; Susan Burleson of Salt Lake City, UT, and Erin Hulse and John Penery of Albuquerque. Sid is also survived by eight grandsons, two granddaughters, sisters, Gerogie Clark and family of Hanford, CA; and Ginnie Johnson of Bishop, CA, and countless friends. Harmon -- Lisa Marie Harmon 1968-2001Lisa Marie Harmon, 32, a resident of Belen, passed away on Friday February 23, 2001. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. She was a teacher at Gil Sanchez Elementary School and a member of the N.E.A. Her love for children and their future was a major focus in her life. She also enjoyed horseback riding. Lisa is survived by her loving husband, Ian; her daughters, Ashley and Lindsey; her parents, Robert and Mary Hodnett of Belen; her sister, Sandra Peek and husband, Matthew of Arizona; her grandparents, Roland and Grace Tetreault of Albuquerque; her aunt, Cherry Hodnett of California; her uncle, Al Tetreault and wife, Ann of New York, and her cousins, Jennifer and Renee Tetreault also of New York. Hertel -- Helen Marie Hertel, also known as the"little pink lady", lost her battle with leukemia on Tuesday, February 20, 2001. She was born October 12, 1920 in Newcastle, WY to Grover and Christine Taylor, and grew up in Sheridan, WY. After completing business college, she accepted a Civil Service position in late 1940 as secretary to the State Administrator of War Bonds. This office handled all the material and correspondence regarding war bonds. Helen met many celebrities who came for bond drives and rallies, including Bing Crosby, Abbott and Costello, and many others. Helen lived in former Governor Carey's mansion along with 35 other girls, all of whom worked for the government during this interesting era. In Cheyenne, she met her husband to be, Rodney M. Hertel, who had returned from college to join the Flying Cadets right after Pearl Harbor. After Rod received his commission, he and Helen were married in Tucson in February of 1943. Helen traveled with Rod until he went to the Pacific Theater as a bombardier on a B-24 crew. After the war, Rod and Helen settled in Cheyenne where Rod worked as a traveling engineer accountant. Their son, Vaughn, was born in February of 1947. In 1951, Rod was recalled to service during the Korean Crisis, and after that made the Air Force his career. Helen, Rod and Vaughn traveled a great deal. One assignment they especially enjoyed was a three year posting in the Basque Country of Northern Spain, where they learned to speak Spanish fluently and made many friends. Rodney retired from the military in 1969 with the rank of Colonel, and the family settled in Albuquerque. Helen was very active in community service. She was Program Chair for Sierra Vista Civitan Club for many years, and always had interesting speakers. She was a member of Paradise Hills United Methodist Church. She was a member of Paradise Hills Women's Golf Association. Both Helen and Rod were active in working with organizations associated with the handicapped. Preceding Helen in death were her husband, Rodney in November of 1996, her son, Vaughn in April of 2000, and her brother, Ty Taylor. Surviving are her sister, Jean Hobein and husband, Byron and family of Anchorage, AK; her brother, Grover Taylor and wife, Helen and family of Juneau, AK; a special niece, Marlene Ketchum of the family home; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends. Memorial Services will be held Monday, February 26, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the Paradise Hills United Methodist Church, 4700 Paradise Blvd. Dr. David Snyman will officiate. Hodges -- Paul Edward Hodges, 70 of Albuquerque, N.M. passed away at his home on February 23, 2001 at 5:45 a.m. Paul was born in Shawnee, OK. He grew up on the family farm in Belen, N.M. He served in the U.S. Force in Korea and spent the next 50 years working in the floor covering business in Farmington and Albuquerque. Paul and his lovely wife, Jeanette were married for 47 years. They have two sons, Tom Hodges and family and Scott Hodges and family. Paul always had a story to tell as his nick name was Oink, he was a special husband, father and grandfather. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. Lingo -- Lt. Col. Edward F. Lingo (Ed) died February 23 at the VA Medical Center. Ed was a Bataan Death March survivor and a Japanese prisoner of war. He retired from the VA and Army Reserves in 1972. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Campbell Lingo, his daughter, Grace Marie Lingo Seamans, and his sister, Clara Intemann. He is survived by John and Connie on the Campbell side, Fran, Cathy, and Ed on the Intemann side; many great-nieces and nephews and his beloved friend Pat Magee. He moved to Albuquerque with his family in 1922 and has lived here ever since except for his army service. He was a man of honor who has shown great courage and dignity through the many difficult times in his life. All those whom he has touched will miss him. Lloyd -- Kenneth H. Lloyd, 83, a forty-nine year resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 20, 2001. Assigned to Sandia Laboratories for twenty-five years, he retired from Bell Telephone Laboratories in 1977. An avid golfer and bowler, he also enjoyed photography, bird watching and fly fishing. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Irma; two sons, David and wife, Patty of Lubbock, TX and Kenneth Jr. and wife Lee of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Heber, Jr. of Suffield, CT. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2001, at the Lloyd home. Martinez -- Manuel A. Martinez ¯Marty¯, 76, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, February 22, 2001. He was born April 19, 1925 in Albuquerque, son of Samuel and Christine Martinez of Cerrillos, NM. Mr. Martinez served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre. After returning home he married Mary Helen Gibbs of Madrid, NM. He attended the University of Washington. Upon his return he owned and operated Central Dental Lab. Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Helen Martinez; daughters, Ann Rice and husband, Tim of Crownpoint, NM, Jean Duck and husband, Michael of Mc Kinney, TX; son, Christopher Martinez of Albuquerque; and five grandchildren, Kathryn and Lisa Rice, Michelle and Steven Duck, and CJ Martinez. Montoya -- Anna Bell Montoya, 50, passed away February 23, 2001, at her home, after a long battle with cancer. She retired from U.S. West in 1996, and was currently employed by TOSCO Corporation. Anna Bell enjoyed many physical activities, mainly hiking and biking. She was preceded in death by her parents, Matildita (Lilly) Lopez and Fernandez Montoya, and is survived by her partner, Theresa Zidek; beloved sister, Elizabeth Montoya and her companion, Glenn Rossman; step-father, John B. Lopez; brothers, Gilbert Montoya and Robert Lopez. In addition she is survived by her very closest cousins, Betty Archibeque, Barbara Archibeque, Dorothy Nieto, and Michael Martinez, and in particular her most favorite aunt, Ruby Martinez who was there for her in every way throughout her life and especially during her illness. She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Richards -- Emma B. Richards, born October 5, 1906, died February 20, 2001 at age 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Richards and grandson, Scott Lemon. She is survived by her son, James Richards and wife, Vin of El Paso, TX; and her daughter, Janice Lemon and husband, Glenn of Rio Rancho; she is also survived by three grandchildren, Bryan and Matthew Richards and Tamara Lemon. Emma and Ed came to Albuquerque in 1945. Emma was a second grade teacher in the Albuquerque Public Schools for 22 years. She had been a resident at The Montebello Nursing Care for the past six years. Sale -- Lonni Jean Sale, born April 3, 1958 in Austin, Minnesota, passed away in Santa Fe, NM February 21, 2001, after a courageous short-term battle with cancer. Lonni was a consultant with IBM for the last several years. She also worked with the New Mexico State Government for about 12 years. She was a resident of Santa Fe since 1980, living in Colorado from 1977 to 2000. Lonni loved horses, dancing, having a good time, but most of all she loved people. Her father, Edward Sale preceded Lonni in death in 1993. She is survived by her mother, Mikki Sale of Santa Fe; brother, Michael Sale and wife, Brenda of Littleton, CO; nieces, Nicole and Marlana Sale also of Littleton, CO; survivors also include several uncles, aunts, cousins, and a host of friends. Turman -- Ruth Blance Carpenter Turman of Lancaster, TX. Entered this world March 25, 1912. Because of her abiding faith in Christ, she believed with all her heart that"Gold so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." She began the heavenly part of her life on February 23, 2001 and is now at rest with her God. In between those mortal dates, she was married to Robert Chester Turman for 56 years. He preceded her in death, but their deep faith kept them connected until she rejoined him. Ruth bore Chester two children, Bobby Neal and Sherrie Elaine. Through her love and nurturing, she instilled in them a love of God, a quest for knowledge, and an enjoyment of travel. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Ruth was a librarian, a Cub Scout den mother, a Dallas Independent School District employee, and a Sunday School teacher. An avid reader, she was able to sample many foreign locations and cultures even when her health failed her and her mobility was limited. Ruth is survived by her son, Bobby Neal Turman; daughter, Sherrie Elaine Archer; daughter-in-law, E. Carol Turman; son-in-law, Charles Archer; grandsons, Stanely Brenton Turman and Richard Brown; granddaughters, Brandi Caroline Turman Mantz and Angela Brown Moser; granddaughters-in-law, Dawn Marie Schwarze and Sandra Santos Brown; grandsons-in-law, Gary Mantz and Jay Moser; great-grandchildren, Christopher Orion Turman, Savannah Elizabeth Desiree Turman, Micah Austin Turman, Denali Madison Noel Turman, Harli Rose Moser, Jay Audrin"J.J."
