Bauer -- Mary Louise Journot Bauer, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Tuesday, January 26, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Barney L. Bauer of the family home; daughters, LeAnna Jones of Albuquerque, and Merri E. Gandy and husband, Tom of Aztec, NM; son, E. John Bauer of Albuquerque; brothers, George W. Journot and Richard Journot, both of Parson, KS; sisters, Ida Frayher of California, Ann Pontious, and Pauline Stilley, both of Parsons, KS; grandchildren, Timothy Jones, Stephanie McCurley, Amy Jones, Thomas Gandy, Adam Gandy and Eric Gandy; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bauer was preceded in death by three brothers. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters of America, and a Charter member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Costello -- Geraldine E. Costello, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Sunday, January 24, 1999. She is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Costello of Albuquerque, Nancy Morgan and husband, William of Dayton, OH, Patricia Nie and husband, Douglas of Albuquerque, and Vivian Carruthers and husband, Terry of Bothell, WA; five grandchildren; sisters, Gene Derbas of Plainfield, IL, and Sophie Canik and Adelaide Bruck, both of Blue Island, IL; and brother, Len Bruck of Zephyr Hills, FL. Mrs. Costello was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Costello in 1994; brothers, Matt, Henry, and Edward Bruck. Cox -- Robert G. Cox, 83, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away January 27, 1999. He was a Veteran of World War II. Robert retired from the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was a longtime member and Deacon of Highland Baptist Church. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Blue Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Cox of the family home; two sons, Glynn L. Cox and wife, Patricia of Hurst, TX and Robert D. Cox and wife, Greta of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Sheryl King, David Cox, Richard Cox and Deann Ragland. Deadrick -- Viola Deadrick, age 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, passed away on Monday, January 25, 1999. Fox -- Frederick William"Bill" Fox, 76, a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, was called home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 24, 1999. Mr. Fox was born on August 18, 1922 in Winona, MN; he was a resident of Albuquerque; a member of the Episcopal Church; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; attended the University of Minnesota, Winona Campus; and was a Junior High Teacher. Mr. Fox survived by his loving wife, Irene Edith Fox of Albuquerque; one son, William Frederick Fox and wife, Debra of Glendora, CA; two grandsons, Steven and Eric Fox; one sister, Edith Krache of San Bernardino, CA. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who loved and knew him. Gonzales -- Mrs. Dolores N. Gonzales died Wednesday in Albuquerque at the age of 71. Mrs. Gonzales was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Encarnacion Estrada. Mrs. Gonzales is survived by her daughters, Patricia Gonzales, Loretta Lucero, Febe Estrada, all of Albuquerque, and Susan Stein of St. Louis, MO; son, Ruben Estrada and wife, DeDe of Las Vegas, NM; brothers, Eddie Muniz, Sonny Navarro, and Jose Muniz and wife, Elsie; sisters, Helen Barela, Mary Vigil and husband, Jose and Pauline Congelton and husband, Marvin, all of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, including Nikol A. Lucero and Alonso R. Estrada; and one great-grandchild, Enrique P. Lucero. Gurule -- Louis M. Gurule, 86, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, January 24, 1999. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Garcia Gurule; and his son, Andy Gurule. In August 1998, he was predeceased by his wife, Eva Kilberry Gurule. Mr. Gurule is survived by three daughters and one son, Eleanor and husband, Louis Otero, Jerry Gurule and his wife, Sylvia, Mary Jane and husband, Gene Sanchez, and Patsy Rodriguez; as well as 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his two sisters, Frances and husband, Matt Martinez and Precilla and husband, Rudy Sprunk; two brothers, Vincent Gurule and wife, Jenny and Gilbert Gurule and wife, Corrine; his two sisters-in-law, Grace Gurule and Julia Gurule; and many nephews, nieces and friends. The family wishes to thank Las Palomas Nursing Home for their special care. In fulfillment of his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Rosary and Mass will by held at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, 2621 Vermont NE, on Friday, January 29, at 8:15 a.m. Interment will take place at Mt. Hueter -- John M. (Jack) Hueter, born June 1, 1924 in San Francisco, CA, died on January 25, 1999 with his loving family around him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the love of his life, Patricia Hannett Hueter; their three devoted daughters, Ann B. Hueter, Laura Hueter Bass and Jane Hueter-Moody; and his son-in-law, Stephen D. Bass. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Meredith and Melissa Myers, Justine Bass, and Sarah and Andrew Moody; brothers, Ernest B. Hueter of Washington, DC and Robert C. Hueter of Napa Valley, CA; sisters-in-law, Mary Hannett Voller and Betty Hannett; nephews, nieces, and many dear friends, all of whom he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest C. Hueter; and his parents-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. James W. Hannett; his brother-in-law, A.T. Hannett; his sister-in-law, Jane Hannett Rice; and his son-in-law, Stephen L. Moody. Jack graduated from New Mexico Military Institute and the University of New Mexico with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the submarine service of the Navy during World War II. He was an adjunct professor at UNM in the College of Engineering and was a longtime employee of Sandia National Laboratories. He was also a dedicated community leader, having served as Chairman of the Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Board, President of the Goodwill Industries of New Mexico, President of the Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque and Lt. Governor of Southwest District of Kiwanis, Board member of the UNM Alumni Association, a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, and an active volunteer for UNM, United Way and the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. But more importantly, he was a profoundly beloved man because of the richness of his spirit, the tenderness of his heart, and the love he gave to so many. Memorial services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at the Cathedral Church of St. John, 4th St. at Silver SW, with the Rev. Edmund Ross officiating and the Rev. Canon Albert W. Tarbell assisting. Irvine -- Frances Lorraine Irvine, 72, died Thursday, January 21, 1999, at her home in Albuquerque. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia D. Irvine of Rochester, NY; and her son, Michael R. Irvine and wife Colleen of Los Lunas, NM; grandchildren Dawn Heather Irvine of Rio Rancho, NM and Jeffrey Kielbasa of Los Lunas, NM; and great grandchildren, Brian Michael Lloyd and Kayla Kielbasa. She was preceded in death by three sons, Timothy Ian Irvine, Kenneth Steven Irvine and James Scott Irvine. Lorraine will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Long -- Frank Weathers Long, 92, artist, athletic, designer-craftsman, and author, died Friday, January 22, 1999 in Diamondhead, Mississippi. Mr. Long was born May 7, 1906 in Knoxville, Tennessee. His easel paintings, woodcuts, lapidary work and sculptures won numerous awards and were displayed in regional and national exhibitions, including the American Federation of Arts National Traveling Print Show, the New York and San Francisco World's Fairs, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., the American Traveling Exhibition to South America, and the IBM Collection. His works are maintained in several prominent museums and private collections around the country, including the University of Kentucky Museum of Fine Arts, the Albuquerque Museum of Fine Art, and the Smithsonian Institution. During the 1920s he studied at the Chicago Art Institute and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. An avid runner, he was a member of several amateur track clubs, and qualified for the 1928 U.S. Olympic team. His love of art led him to forego the Olympics, choosing instead to pursue his studies at Academic Julien in Paris, France. Although he preferred easel painting, he gained greater recognition for his talent as a muralist. He achieved the most mural commissions of any artist from the U.S. Treasury Department's Section of Fine Arts and his Depression Era murals are still preserved in public and private buildings in Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma, Maryland, South Carolina, and Kentucky. He described his experiences as a muralist in the autobiographical Confessions of Depression Muralist, published in 1997. From 1932 to 1942 he worked in his studio in Berea, Kentucky, where he met and married Laura Whitis of White Plains, New York. During World War II he served as an Army First Lieutenant in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Mr. Long left the Army after the War and studied crafts in Silver City, NM. He returned to Berea, KY in 1947 and established a workshop where he designed and created fine jewelry. In 1951 the Department of the Interior appointed Mr. Long to the Alaskan Program of the Indian Arts and Crafts Board. From 1958 to 1961 directed programs of the Board in the Southwest and Florida advised the tribes in these areas on the production and distribution of their arts and crafts products. He retired from government service in Albuquerque in 1969 and turned his efforts to jewelry and sculpture. He was an active member of the Albuquerque Designer-Craftsmen, and a regular exhibitor at the Annual New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fairs. He published two books on gemstone design, The Creative Lapidary in 1977 and Lapidary Carving in 1982. In 1989, he resumed easel painting. In 1997, his health began to fail, and he moved with his wife to Diamondhead, MS where his daughter and son-in-law reside. He will be fondly remembered by his wife, Laura; his daughter, Angela; his son-in-law, Emil Petrunico; and the many friends he made throughout his remarkable life. No public service will be held. A Mass will be said in his honor at Annunciation Catholic Church, Kiln, MS. Mendoza -- Mrs. Tomasita G. Mendoza, 80, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on January 27, 1999. Mrs. Mendoza is survived by her two daughters, Marlene Moraga and husband, Edward and Helen Moraga; one sister, Corina Gutierrez; one brother, Felix Gallegos; five grandchildren, Angela, Michelle, Marie, Steve and Randy; four great-grandchildren, Marissa, Daniel, Samantha, and Brandon; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Neal -- Katharine Neal, 76, a resident of Albuquerque for three years, died Monday, January 25, 1999. She is survived by her husband, William Neal of Albuquerque; son, Terry Neal and wife, Aurea of Guam; sisters, Dorothy Bartlett of Albuquerque and Pearl Klein of Aurora, MO; nephew, Dan Bartlett and wife, Dympna of Albuquerque; many nieces; and nephews. Neumann -- Lt. Col. Robert H. Neumann (USAF Ret.), a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Monday, January 25, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cherie Neumann of Albuquerque; daughter, C. Lauren Neumann of Las Vegas, NV; brother, John Neumann and wife, Pricilla of Massachusetts; and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Elsie Neumann; son, Robbie"Colonel" Neumann in 1979; sister, Marion Larson. Mr. Neumann was the Jersey Observer City Marble Champion Shooter in 1931. With a scholarship for basketball and baseball, Bob was known as one of the spark plugs for Seton Hall's basketball team. His major was Physical Education. Lt. Col. Neumann was a member of the 57th Bomb Wing-310th & 321st Groups. He served four years, 11 months in the Army Air Corps. He retired with the rank of Lt. Col. Lt. Col. Neumann flew over 100 missions, 76 of which were combat missions, total number of combat hours 348, total number of flying hours 1200. On August 18th, 1944, he flew the lead bomber plane, of a 36 plane formation, which knocked out the Nazi Battle Ship, Strasbourg, at Toulon Harbor in the Mediterranean Theater. Bob received many decorations and awards among them were the Air Force Cross, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Purple Heart. He was a loving husband and father. He was always able to express his sense of humor. During his working years here in Albuquerque, he was employed with the Operating Engineers as an Oiler. He was a member of 953 A, retiring in 1978. Mass will be celebrated Friday, 11:00 a.m., at Gate of Heaven Chapel, Paseo del Norte and Wyoming, with Fr. Paul Baca, Celebrant. Graveside services will follow the Mass with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Kirtland Air Force Base Honor Guard. Rushing -- Lt. Col. Cecil M. Rushing, US Army (Ret.), 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died Monday, January 25, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, June Rushing of the family home; sons, Don G. Rushing and wife, Cynthia of LaJolla, CA and Michael J. Rushing and wife, Ellen of Indian Hills, CO; step-sons, C. Douglas McConnell and wife, Janna of Orlando, FL and Edward R. McConnell and wife, Shauna of Tulsa, OK; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice"Pete" Rushing. Mr. Rushing lived in Santa Fe from 1935-1940. He then moved to Albuquerque in 1940 where he lived until his enlistment in military service. Lt. Col. Rushing served in the US Army for over 29 years, retiring in 1971. He then was a state agent for National Educators Life Insurance Co. for 15 years. Mr. Rushing was a member of Sombre del Monte Christian Church. Travelstead -- Mrs. Marita Hawley Travelstead died on January 26, 1999 at an Albuquerque nursing home after a long illness. Born on January 28, 1912 in Beamsville, Ontario, she lived most of her early life in Ludington, Michigan. Mrs. Travelstead graduated from Western Kentucky Teachers College in 1934, and for the next few years was a music and kindergarten teacher in Michigan and Kentucky schools. She and her husband, Chester Travelstead of Albuquerque, were married in 1936. They and their two sons, Coleman and Jimmie lived in Kentucky, Georgia and South Carolina before moving to Albuquerque in 1956. Mrs. Travelstead was an active member of the faculty wives' group at the University of New Mexico, where her husband held several administrative positions until he retired in 1977. In the early 1960s, she was the volunteer leader of the Candystripers, a volunteer group of teenagers at Presbyterian Hospital. Among the other community groups in which she was an active member were Friends of the U.N.M. Library; the League of Women Voters, the board of the Rio Grande Planned Parenthood; and the General Board of Monte Vista Christian Church. She was also the volunteer librarian at the U.S. Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque. And for 21 years before her retirement in 1992 she delivered meals to Albuquerque residents for the Meals on Wheels Program. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Katherine Miller of Ludington, MI; her husband, Chester Travelstead of Albuquerque; two sons, Coleman Travelstead and his wife, Brookes McIntyre of Coral Gables, FL and Jimmie Travelstead and his wife, Dawn Braun of Santa Fe; and her two grandchildren, Monique Travelstead of Alexandria, VA and Theodore Travelstead of New York City. Graveside burial services will be held at the family lot in the cemetery at Franklin, Kentuckyon Friday, 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE, at a date to be announced later. The family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army instead of sending flowers for the funeral.

Vigil -- Mr. Eddie G. Vigil, 74, born May 17, 1924 in Las Vegas, NM, passed away on January 26, 1999 in Tucson, AZ. Mr. Vigil was a resident of Albuquerque for 53 years before moving to Tucson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Vigil. He is survived by his son, William and wife, Yvonne (Sanchez) of Tucson, AZ; his grandchildren, Michael Vigil of Longmont, CO, Vincent Vigil, Richard Vigil and Milissa Vigil of Tucson, AZ; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Erlinda Martinez of Citrus Heights, CA and Maria De Frenes and her husband, Jack of West Chester, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Vigil was a member of the Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited Friday evening, 7:00 p.m., at the Ascension Catholic Church, 2150 Raymac SW, with visitation at the church after 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday morning, 10:00 a.m., at the Ascension Church with final viewing at the church after 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Pajarito Cemetery.
