Baca -- Paul G. Baca, 88, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, January 6, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rose Baca of the family home; son, Paul N. Baca of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughters, Carole J. Tafoya and husband, Laurence of Albuquerque and Debbie Sant and husband, Bret of Rio Rancho; great-grandsons, Brian Sant and Jayson Sant, both of Rio Rancho; brother, Frank Baca of Citrus Hills, CA; son-in-law, Rex E. Lewis of Albuquerque; numerous nieces and a nephew. Mr. Baca was born in San Marcial, NM. His parents died when he was young. Mr. Baca raised his younger brother. His careers included working at the Fred Harvey Alvarado Hotel, the Santa Fe Railroad, and Trans World Airlines where he retired in 1974. Mr. Baca was a courteous gentleman of the old school. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church for over 60 years. Scripture services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Father Francis E. Renfroe, S.J. officiating. Bolton -- Wanda Bolton, a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with our Lord, Wednesday, January 6, 1999. She died of congestive heart failure at the age of 84. Mrs. Bolton is survived by two daughters, Judy Hill and husband, Pat of Clovis and Barbara Burnett and husband, Buddy of Show Low, AZ; granddaughter, Terri Sorley and husband, Ken of Clovis and their daughters, Sara, Jill and Sydney; grandsons, John Hill and his sons, Trent and Zane, all of Schuyler, NE, Mark Hill and wife, Dee and their children, Clint, Kari and Callie, all of Melrose, NM, Michael Hill and wife, Dana of Phoenix, AZ, Paul Hill and wife, Amy and their son, Colby, all of Albuquerque, and Chris Hartzog of Tucson, AZ. She was born in Mountain City, TN on March 7, 1914. Wanda Lucille Utt married Royal Clovis Bolton in Bruceville, IN on August 29, 1935. She was an accomplished musician and a partner with her husband, Clovis in God's ministry until his passing in 1984. Their ministry took them to Indiana, Illinois, Texas, New Mexico, California, Arizona and then back to New Mexico. Wanda loved her family unconditionally and was a wonderful friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all. Mrs. Bolton will be lovingly remembered at a memorial service Sunday, 1:30 p.m., in the chapel at Encino House, 412 Alvarado SE. Brown -- Margaret L. Brown, 85, died Wednesday, January 6, 1999 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George L. Brown. Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Karen P. Bennett and son-in-law, John D. Bennett of Albuquerque; and by her nephew, Anthony Richey and his wife, Judy Richey of Albuquerque. She is also survived by many caring friends. The family wishes to thank the extraordinary people at Montebello on Academy who have taken exceptionally kind and loving care of our mother for 4 1/2 years. A memorial service has taken place at the Montebello. Sunrise Society of New Mexico is serving the family of Mrs. Brown (891-8200).

Clair -- Eugenia G. Clair, 82, a resident of Albuquerque from 1984-1998, died on Friday, January 1, 1999. She is survived by her son, William A. Garnand and wife, Anita of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Alexandria Garnand, Donna Carstens and husband, Calvin, David Garnand, Dorothy Garnand, Mary Garnand, Rachel Garnand, and Irene Garnand; great-grandchildren, Nicole Pinkney, Cecilia Carstens, Raquel Garnand, Izaac Garnand, and Angelique Garnand, all of Albuquerque; and son, John J. Garnand of Longmont, CO. Mrs. Clair was a member of Our Lady of The Annunciation Catholic Church, where she was active with the Golden Agers. Coffield -- Michael J. Coffield, Colonel, USAF Retired, a 23 year resident of this city, died January 4, 1999. Colonel Coffield was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1911. He was educated in California. After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with an engineering degree, he entered the Army Air Corps Flying School in 1935. He was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor and served in the South Pacific and Italy during WWII. After retiring from the Air Force in 1961, Colonel Coffield was a commercial pilot and flight instructor. He worked as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America for 20 years. He belonged to the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Civil Air Patrol, the Sierra Club, the American Civil Liberties Union, Sister Cities, the Japanese American Citizens League, and the Society for the Preservation of the Subjunctive. Colonel Coffield is survived by his wife, Dr. Gene Coffield; sons, James and wife, Lorraine of Albuquerque, Mike and wife, Lorna of Oakland, CA, and Mark of Corvallis, OR; brothers, Monsignor John V. of San Clemente, CA and Vernon L. of Marina Del Rey, CA; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements by Sunrise Society of New Mexico. Memorial service and interment will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery with full Military Honors on January 11 at 1:30 p.m. After the service, friends and relatives are invited to share in a celebration of Michael's life at Jim and Lorraine's home at 4:30 p.m.

Garcia -- Mr. Joe Eddy Garcia died suddenly in his home on Wednesday, January 6, 1999. He was a resident of New Mexico. Mr. Garcia is survived by Elisa Garcia; his sons, Joe Garcia, Jr. and Ceasar Garcia; two grandsons, Andre and Christopher; his father, Virgil Garcia and wife, Adelina of Santa Rosa, NM; three brothers, Gabriel Garcia and wife, Stella, Arthur Garcia and wife, Bernice, and Daniel Garcia and wife, Diane; and several nieces and nephews. Gradi -- Carl Lewis Gradi, age 63, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 1999 at 9:30 a.m. from complications of metastasized cancer. Carl was born in Albuquerque. He attended St. Anthony's Boy's School. He served in the National Guard and spent his professional career in the trucking industry. Carl was preceded in death by his father, Leo Gradi of Albuquerque; his mother, Jean Hellan; his son, Clifford; and his brother, David. Carl is survived by several cousins, aunts and uncles of the Jones, Giomi and Domenici families. Layton -- Robert (Guana) Lee Layton, 51, born January 26, 1947, to Ruthie McGhee and Lee Layton in Kansas City, Missouri, passed away December 30, 1998. Logsdon -- Margaret Emma Logsdon was born February 16, 1912 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 3, 1999. She was a precious part of our family who deeply loved her. Mares -- Stanley Joseph Mares, a former resident of Bernalillo, passed away January 1, 1999."For you shall go out in Joy, and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills before you shall break forth in singing and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands." Isiah 55:12 Stanley was an inspiration to many hearts. He had a zest for life and taught us to laugh and appreciate the natural beauty of the earth. His sense of humor will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful son and a loving and forgiving brother who loved us all unconditionally. He fondly referred to our parents as his"Babies" and loved them tenderly. Stan was always giving and sharing his talents with others. He volunteered his services in the Children's Hospital Cancer Ward, his goal was to create a safe place where no fear existed. His many nieces and nephews will miss his example and unselfish deeds. Stan spent his holiday season serving in the soup line for the needy. We will all miss you deeply, our son, our brother, our friend. Our memories of you will be treasured in our hearts forever. He is survived by his parents, Epifanio and Kate Mares of Rio Rancho; and his brothers and sisters, Tomasita and George Navarro, Patricia Urioste de Mares, James and Elizabeth Mares, all of Bernalillo, Elizabeth de Vargas of Hooks, TX and Kathleen and Rudy Apodaca of Placitas, NM. His interests included music, theatre, cooking, art, and fishing. He was an accomplished opera tenor. He belonged to numerous organizations. Morelos -- Joseph Anthony Morelos died Wednesday in Albuquerque at the age of 20. Morelos of Albuquerque, Mr. and Mrs. Joe F. Fernandez of Albuquerque, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Diedrich of Seattle, WA; sisters, Salisha Morelos of Bernalillo, Denine Morelos, Andrea Diedrich and Arnika Diedrich, all of Albuquerque; brothers, David Diedrich and Matthias Diedrich; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins. Myers -- Robert Evan Myers, Lt. Col. (Ret.), a resident of Albuquerque, was born on Wednesday, April 18, 1923 in Chicago, IL and died Tuesday, January 5, 1999. Mr. Myers was a graduate of Billings Senior High School, Class of 1941, Billings, MT. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Montana State University, Bozeman, MT in 1949. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1975 after 33 years of service, having served during WWII and both Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He was a pilot and aircraft commander, flying B-24s, B-29s, C-97s, and C-130s. He also served the Air Force in research, development, and installation activities related to aircraft fueling, inter-continental ballistic missiles, and laser guided munitions. After retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Myers began a second career in construction and carpentry, working as a general contractor. Mr. Myers researched his family history and was very active in the Albuquerque Genealogy Club. He was an avid bridge player and a member of Bear Creek Senior Center. He was a 32nd degree Mason in Billings Lodge A.F. & A.M. and was a Shriner. He was active in scouting when his children were young. Mr. Myers was a member of Sandia Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Norma J. of the family home; daughters, Dr. Cynthia J. Myers of Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Candace A. Myers and husband, Dr. James K. Luce of Amarillo, TX, Cassandra Myers-Warner and husband, J.W. Warner of Albuquerque, and adopted daughter, Deborah A. Fowler of Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter, Deidre Schaefer and husband, Peter C. of Berkley Springs, WV; great-granddaughter, Victoria Schaefer of Berkley Springs, WV; sister, Claire Blurton of Reno, NV; and many other relatives. Philgreen -- Floyd A. Philgreen, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, passed away in a local nursing home Tuesday, December 29, 1998. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Elizabeth E. Philgreen of the family home; one daughter, Linda E. Philgreen, Shown, KS; two step-sons, Thomas Snook and wife, Rose Fehr, Tijeras, NM, and Herbert Snook; two sisters, Lillian Van Arsdale and husband, John, Lawson, MO, and Eunice M. Martin and husband, Gorby, Shawnee, KS; one brother, Edward Philgreen and wife, Pauline, Washington, IA. He was the world's greatest grandfather to six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, worked with the Boy Scouts, was a Scout Master of the District Committee and Institutional Representative of the Eagle Scouts since 1934. He was a member of the Desert Swingers Square Dancing Club and of the Presbyterian Auxiliary Health Care. Pierce -- Maxine Pierce, 65, died Sunday, December 27, 1998 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born July 27, 1933 in Ragland, Alabama. Maxine was Administrative Assistant at UNM College of Pharmacy 20 years, retiring in 1991. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd W. Pierce of Las Vegas; two sons, Michael of Hobbs,NM and Ronald of Woodridge, IL; seven grandchildren; one sister, Christine Turner Yeater of Albuquerque; three brothers, Edward Jones of Garden Grove, CA, Woodrow Jones of Westminister, CA, and Jerry Jones of Albuquerque. Memorial services were held on Wednesday, December 30, 1998 in Las Vegas.

Porras -- Rico Porras, 22, passed away December 30, 1998. He was born in Denver, CO on February 23, 1976. Ranyan -- Martha Ranyan, 74, a resident of Albuquerque since 1990, died Tuesday, January 5, 1999. She is survived by her children, Roberta L. Ranyan-Dowe and husband, James W. Dowe III of Albuquerque and John Michael Ranyan and wife, Diane of Grand Junction, CO; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Armin S. Ranyan in July 1998. Reynolds -- Elizabeth DoBell Reynolds, 83, born October 16, 1915, passed away on January 6, 1999. Her sweet and loving nature enriched the lives of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Elizabeth (Liz) lived a life of faith in God. Her deep faith carried her through the loss of two husbands, William E. DoBell and John P. Reynolds; and four children, John Reynolds, Mark Reynolds, Jeff Reynolds, and Bill DoBell. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Thomas K.D. and Laura Edwards Maddison; grandson, Brian Niggel; brother, Leroy Maddison; sisters, Gladys Biggs, Laura Peer, Dorothy Maddison and Mary Gray. In spite of the passing of these wonderful family members, her relationship with the Lord enabled her to keep smiling and giving love that sprang from His unending source. Her father was born in England and settled in Albuquerque where she and her siblings were born. He became a prominent lawyer and an influential influence in early Albuquerque. Elizabeth graduated from Albuquerque High School and married immediately after graduation. She is survived by sons, Tim Reynolds of Cedar Crest, NM, James Reynolds of Albuquerque, Rod Reynolds and wife, Elizabeth of Ohio, and Stephen DoBell and wife, Joanne Carlsson of Seattle, WA; daughters, Patricia Miller, Patricia Archibeck and husband, Ron, Antoinette Niggel and husband, Keith, Elizabeth Heise and husband, Richard, all of Albuquerque, RoseMary Martin and husband, Tom of Rio Communities, Belen, Barbara Trybul of Virginia, Celinda Kaelin and husband, Harold of Colorado; 32 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and very special friend and sister-in-law, Genevieve DoBell Ruttle. Saiz -- Luciano Saiz died on January 5, 1999. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Veronica; his three sons, Johnny, David and Andres. Simons -- Katherine Gauss Simons, daughter of Anna Gauss and Arthur Clyde Simons, was born August 23, 1907 and died January 4, 1999. She is survived by cousins, Gordon Gauss and wife of Denver, CO, Robert Hook and family of Wapello, IA, and Barbara Hook Montgomery of Minneapolis, MN and family. Katherine grew up in Shenandoah, IA, graduated from Grinnell College, and received her MA degree from Columbia at Columbia. She also completed her Doctoral work (minus dissertation). She began teaching at UNM in 1939. Her primary field was Renaissance Literature. She was much involved with the General Honors program, in 1968, she became a full professor and retired in 1973. Katherine's family, students and friends revere, love and will miss her. Storer -- Diana Cristofori Storer, 71, a longtime resident of Liberty, NY and a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, died Saturday, January 2, 1999, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her children, John Storer and wife, Mary, Kathy Helin and husband, Barry, Jim Storer, all of Albuquerque and Kenneth T. Storer of Harris, NY; seven grandchildren, Terry Storer and wife, Cindy of Woodbourne, NY, Toby Storer and wife, Tonya of Pompano Beach, FL, Tracy Russell and husband, Steve of Lighthouse Point, FL, Kirsten Cobb and husband, Eric of Albuquerque, Erik Helin of Muncie, IN and Vincent and Alicia Storer of Albuquerque; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Storer of Woodbourne, NY and Tucker Gage Storer of Pompano Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth j. Storer in 1997. Prior to her illness, Diana was very active with the Hug-A-Bear program through the Telephone Pioneers of America. Swain -- Jeanne M. Swain, loving mother, daughter and grandmother, age 71, passed away January 4, 1999 in Tucson, AZ after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 19, 1927 in Green Camp, Ohio, she moved to Albuquerque in 1961. She loved the Land of Enchantment. In the 60s, she was active in local theatre, including the Corrales Adobe Theatre and Albuquerque Little Theatre. She was a pioneer in the film industry in New Mexico, becoming the first screen actors guild-franchised agent in the state. Her compassion for actors and love of the arts were an inspiration to many people. She had served as Public Relations Director at the University of Albuquerque and as Film Commissioner for the City of Albuquerque. After retirement she divided her time between Albuquerque and Tucson and dedicated herself to geneology, writing, and world travel. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Orie J. Mossbarger; and her step-father, Howard C. Rathburn. She is survived by her son, Alan D. Swain IV of Albuquerque; daughter, Sandra J. Rodriguez, son-in-law, Michael, and granddaughter, Eva of Westminster, CO; and mother, Grace E. Rathburn of Tucson, AZ. Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 10, 1999 at South Lawn Mortuary, 5401 S. Park, Tucson, AZ. Towner -- Sharon Kay Towner entered peacefully into rest at Highland Hospital in Oakland, CA on January 4, 1999. She was 55. Born October 23, 1943 in Carlsbad, NM. Sharon was a devoted homemaker and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Towner who was killed during the Vietnam War. Sharon will be deeply missed. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Carol T. Overacker of San Diego, CA; mother, Beverly Lynch of San Diego, CA (formerly of Albuquerque); father, Everett Triplett of Springfield, OH; loving companion, Theodore Fontano of Oakland, CA; grandchildren, Michael J. Wittler -- Hans Otto Wittler, 64, beloved husband, father and Opa, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 4, 1999. Hans Otto was born on April 3, 1934 in Bielefeld, Germany. In January of 1958, Hans Otto moved to Albuquerque and in 1959 he was drafted into the United States Armed Forces. After serving two years of active duty in Panama, he continued his military service in the Reserves. In 1974, Hans Otto and his wife opened Hans Wittler's Automotive. He was a well-respected mechanic and Porsche expert, as well as a founding member of the Porsche Club of America. Hans Otto was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Christel; his sons, Roger Wittler, wife, Kristy and granddaughter, Riley Adell, Andreas Wittler and his wife, Heather; sister, Rosie Wittler of Lengerich, Germany; sister-in-law, Ursula and husband, Ervin, nephew, Rainer Zander, all of Bielefeld, Germany, as well as many close friends. Services will be held Friday, January 8, 1999, 10:00 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Internment will follow at The National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
