Obituary for Simons

Katherine Gauss Simons, daughter of Anna Gauss and Arthur Clyde Simons, was born August 23, 1907 and died January 4, 1999. She is survived by cousins, Gordon Gauss and wife of Denver, CO, Robert Hook and family of Wapello, IA, and Barbara Hook Montgomery of Minneapolis, MN and family. Katherine grew up in Shenandoah, IA, graduated from Grinnell College, and received her MA degree from Columbia at Columbia. She also completed her Doctoral work (minus dissertation). She began teaching at UNM in 1939. Her primary field was Renaissance Literature. She was much involved with the General Honors program, in 1968, she became a full professor and retired in 1973. Katherine's family, students and friends revere, love and will miss her. Services are to be held at the UNM Alumni Memorial Chapel, Monday, January 11, at 2:00 p.m. Memorial may be directed to the"Fund for General Honors" in memory of Katherine Simons and sent to the UNM Foundation Hall, Albuquerque, NM 87131.
