Sabo -- Denes (Dan) Sabo, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on Sunday, March 11, 2001 surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Betty; five children and their families, which include fourteen grandchildren. He also leaves behind a sister; a brother; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Veteran of World War II, Dan served as an officer in the United States Army Air Corp of Engineers. He moved to New Mexico in 1953. Licensed in the state of New Mexico and a longtime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, he spent his professional life working for the Council of Governments, New Mexico State Highway Department and Albuquerque Metropolitan Flood Control Authority. He was recognized for his tireless efforts as a volunteer for a number of local charities including the Albuquerque Museum Foundation and St. Joseph Healthcare Foundation. A Memorial Service will take place in the Albuquerque Museum Sculpture Garden on Monday, March 19, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions made to the Albuquerque Museum Foundation, PO Box 7006, Albuquerque, NM 87194-7006 or St. Joseph Healthcare Foundation, PO Box 25555, Albuquerque, NM 87125 would be deeply appreciated. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Delta Hospice for their loving care and support.

Sanchez -- Salvador Sanchez Sr., 89, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, March 10, 2001 in Loma Linda, CA. He is survived by his son, Salvador Sanchez Jr. and wife, Connie of California; adopted son, Anthony Sanchez and wife, Bonnie of Rio Rancho; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Sanchez in November 1999. Mr. Sanchez was a veteran of WWII and served in the US Navy. He was a member of American Legion Post 69. Rosary will be recited Friday March 16, 2001 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 7807 Edith NE. Mass will be celebrated Saturday March 17, 10:00 AM at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th Street NW. Interment will follow at Alameda Cemetery. Simbaña -- Juan Francisco Simbaña, 71, a resident of Albuquerque since 1988, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2001. He was born September 29, 1929 in Quito, Ecuador. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maria Simbaña; three sons and one daughter, Jose"Pepe" and his wife, Ellen Griffiths, their children, Mari, Nina, Emily Margaret and Francisco Jose, of Albuquerque, Dolores"Gloria" and husband, Ricardo Perez, their children, Mauricio, his wife, Monica, and Alfredo, of Albuquerque, Francisco Jr. and his wife, Nancy, their children, Juan Carlos and Alexandra, of Albuquerque, Jaime and his wife, Blanca Usiña, their children, Jaime Orlando and Daniel, of Toronto, Canada; and his brothers and sisters in Quito, Ecuador. Francisco was a maitre d' for two past Presidents of Ecuador, a chef for several embassies in Quito, and an entrepreneur before coming to Albuquerque. Francisco was the pillar of his family and a leader of his community. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. His family would like to express special appreciation to Dr. Rosina Finley for her care and support to the family. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 18, 2001 at Fern Chapel, Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave SE. A Funeral Service will be performed at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2001 at Palm Chapel at Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Strong-Thorne Mortuary is in charge of his arrangements.

Stearley -- Dorothy Stearley, 82, a 12-year resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, March 8, 2001. She is survived by her sons, Jim Stearley and wife, Ginny of Duncansville, PA and Bob Stearley and wife, Diane of Edgewood, NM; daughter, Kathy Stearley of Tulsa, OK; brother, Robert Scheeler of Bartlesville, OK; sisters, Barbara Kimberling of Lincoln, NE, Marilyn Allen of Tyler, TX, and Betty Jarvis of Heidriek, KY; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard and a granddaughter. Mrs. Stearley was a member of Hoffmantown Church. She was a former member and officer of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Stearley was choir director for many years at First Baptist Church in Gibbon, NE. She and her husband owned and operated the Sterle Restaurant, Motel, and gas station in Gibbon, NE for many years. She was an accomplished pianist, organist, and a wonderful caring mother. Graveside service will be held Saturday, March 17, 2001, 4:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Arrangements by French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.

Aitson -- Doris Aitson, our beloved mother and friend, made her transition to the spirit world on March 12, 2001. Doris died after a brief illness at her home in Albuquerque NM. Her husband, Marlin Aitson, of Mountain View, OK, preceded Doris in death. Doris is survived by her daughters, Patty Aitson of Richardson, TX and Clarice Roy and her husband, Scott of Ft. Worth, TX. Doris was born in Crystal, NM on March 15, 1934 and attended the Rehoboth Schools and graduated from Calvin College. Doris was an educator in the Gallup McKinley County Schools for 31 years after a short stint at the Rehoboth Schools. After retiring from the Gallup system,, Doris worked for five years at the Zia School District and three years at the Acoma Sky City Community School. While in Gallup, Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church, Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial Association, ADK, PEO and KKI organizations. While in Albuquerque, Doris volunteered fro the New Mexico Aids Services and was a member of the Kiwanis organization. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 1800 Red Rock Dr., Gallup, NM. Followed by a reception at The Inn. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the New Mexico Aids Service, 625 Truman NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110-6472.

Baxter -- Ruby Jean Kitchell Baxter, 71, a 59-year resident of Albuquerque went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 14, 2001. She is survived by her son, Thomas L. Baxter of Albuquerque; sister, Dora Nell Wimpy and husband, Ken of Aztec, NM; one grandchild, Dana Baxter of Albuquerque; and one great-grandchild, Jeremy Baxter of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Baxter in 1973; one grandchild, Daniel Baxter in 1997 and her parents, Luther and Dora Kitchell. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Services will be held Friday, March 16, 2001, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Dr. Larry E. Kennedy officiating.

Black -- Otilia (Tillie) M. Black, 64, a resident of Albuquerque for 12 years, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Santiago (Jim) Black of Albuquerque; sons, Mark Black and wife, Barbara of San Antonio, TX, and Matthew Black of Albuquerque; grandson, Joshua Black of San Antonio, TX; brother, Tony Vasquez of San Antonio; and aunts, Delfina Baladez and Wilhemina Vasquez, both of San Antonio, TX. Mrs. Black was an active member and past president of the University Hospital Service League. She was also active with developing the Milagro Program at UNM Hospital. Mrs. Black was a member of San Felipe de Neri Church where she served as a reader and greeter. Rosary will be recited Friday, March 16, 2001, 7:00 p.m., at San Felipe de Neri Church, 2005 Plaza NW, Old Town, with Deacon Bob Lewis reciting. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 17, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at San Felipe de Neri Church, with Monsignor Leo Lucero, Celebrant and Deacon Bob Lewis assisting. Bloom -- Sarah S. (Nee Stoler) of Albuquerque, age 76, beloved wife of the late William, devoted mother of Matthew of Maryland and Jonathan of New Jersey. Sarah was born in New York City and lived in Albuquerque for the last ten years. She passed away March 13, 2001 in Kaseman Hospital in Albuquerque. She was a homemaker. Before moving to Albuquerque, she lived in Cresskill, NJ. Services will be held Sunday, March 18, 2001 from Wien & Wien F.H. Hackensack, NJ.

Carpenter -- Richard N. Carpenter, 76, an Albuquerque resident since 1948, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001. He is survived by his daughters, Kitty Montano and husband, Jim of Cedar Crest, NM and Trish Kukowski and husband, Shawn of Rio Rancho, NM; son, Rick Carpenter and companion, Debbie David of Carnuel, NM; grandchildren, Jennifer Gonzales and husband, Scott of Albuquerque and Traci Squyers of Austin, TX; great-granddaughter, Hailey Gonzales of Albuquerque; sister, Gladys Lovejoy of Wautoma, WI; brothers, Jarrett Carpenter of Scottsdale, AZ and Darwin Carpenter of Madison, WI; several nieces and nephews; former wife, Doni Carpenter; very special friends, Carol Wingert and Jay Mitchell, all of Albuquerque. Mr. Carpenter was a US Navy veteran of WWII where he served on an LST. He was retired from Sandia National Labs. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 19, 2001 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd, NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Clay -- Robert Forest Clay passed away at home in Ponca City, OK March 3, 2001 with family and Hospice nurses at his side. Bob was born January 2, 1926 in Colorado to Chester and Myrtle (Rutan) Clay and spent most of his early life in Gallup and Albuquerque, NM. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II from 1943-1945. Robert and Kathryn Hengel were married November 26, 1948 in Gallup, NM. Bob was a construction superintendent who built custom homes, commercial buildings, hospital and schools throughout New Mexico, OK and spent ten years doing construction in Alaska. He retired in Ponca City ten years ago. Bob is survived by his wife, Kathryn of the home; three sons, Richard of Arizona, Kenneth and Charles of Ponca City; and three daughters, Coleen Cook of Augusta, GA, Kerry Hancock and Kelly Clay of Ponca City; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Della Sisk of Albuquerque. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Gary. Mass of Christian Burial for Bob was 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001 in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Michalicka officiating and Burial will be private. Services are under direction of Anderson Funeral Home, Box 337 Tonkawa, OK 74653. Donations may be made to the Ponca City Hospice. The funeral home will accept these donations.
