Zubia -- Edna Zubia, 64, passed away in Dallas, Texas, November 27, 2002. She lived in Albuquerque and worked at Zubia Construction Company. Edna will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and friend to all who knew her. Her husband Bob had many fond remembrances of her loving kindness and patience, and described her as the ¯salt of the earth. She was preceded in death by her step-father, Miguel Ayala and is survived by her husband, Robert"Bob" Zubia; mother, Elvida Ayala; children, Richard Zubia and wife, Roberta, Laverne Zubia, JoAnna Avila and husband, Ernest, Kenneth Zubia, Matthew Zubia and wife, Anna, Mark Zubia and wife, Ruth, Sylvia Francia and husband, Prudencio, Sally Herrera, Ellen Montoya and husband, Pat, Robert Zubia Jr., Naomi Chavez and husband, Leonard; sister, Coco and husband, Polo; brother, Salvador Chavez; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. Services will be held at Living Water Church, 7002 Acoma Rd. SE. A Prayer Service and viewing will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2002. Aragon -- Mrs. Encarnacion (Carrie) Aragon, 71, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on November 30, 2002.¯Mrs. Aragon is survived by husband, Luciano; three daughters, Jenny Haro, Bertha Reyes and husband Ralph and Mary Lou Baldonado; six sons, Gilbert Aragon and wife Irma, Richard Aragon and wife Judy, Stanley Aragon, George Aragon and girlfriend Gloria Griego, Frank Aragon and Rodney Aragon; one sister, Irene Jojola; 28 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Aragon was preceded in death by her son, Leroy Aragon and her mother Clotilde Silva.¯Mrs. Aragon was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation for Mrs. Aragon will be Thursday evening from 6:30pm until 7:00pm in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm by Gabriella Nieto.¯A final visitation will be Friday morning from 9:30am until 10:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 612 Stover Ave. SE with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00am by Father Moore. Billups -- Reverend James F. Billups passed away November 28, 2002. He was born May 11, 1933 in Alabama. James was a Pastor and retired from the United States Air Force. He was a loving husband and father. James is survived by his wife, Floree; and five sons, Harold, Derrick, Jerome, Aundra, and Sebastian. The viewing and Funeral Services will be held at Albuquerque Bible Church, 320 Montano NW., just east of 4th ST. The viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2002, followed by the Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jones and Rev. Washington will officiate the services. Brooks -- A Graveside Service will be held to honor the life of Marjorie Ellen Brooks who died on November 30, 2002, at the age of 87. She was the daughter of Joseph Thomas Overlin and Macie Francis Green Overlin Jenkins. Reared in Trinidad, Colorado, she and her husband, Clyde, who died in 1999, were longtime Albuquerque area residents. Marge's calling in life was that of a homemaker. Her love of children, domestic skills, patience, optimism, humor, gentility, and quiet strength served her well in this role. She is survived by her sons, Richard, Don, Dave, and Jim, who grew up basking in the sunshine of her love. Other survivors include daughters-in-law, Marilyn, Joan, Linda, and Karen; grandchildren, Tammy Brisco, Sean Brooks, Mark Brooks, Michael Brooks, Nathan Brooks, Matthew Brooks, and Brian Brooks; great-grandchildren, Ashley Loveless and Jaushua Brisco; and Marge's devoted niece and nephew Carol and David Jenkins. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2002, 1:00 p.m., at Sandia Memory Gardens, 9500 San Pedro NE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heart Association of NM, P.O. Burns -- Preston Edward Burns, 18, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, November 28, 2002.¯ Born in Albuquerque on October 18, 1984, he attended schools in Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and San Jose, CA. He recently received his GED, and he was currently enrolled at TVI where he intended to pursue a degree in Culinary Arts.¯His dream was to own a restaurant. Preston was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 13.¯Diabetes is a cruel master that took Preston not piece by piece but whole, as he stood on the threshold of adult promise.¯In 8th grade, he volunteered for Youth Development, Inc. His potential was recognized by YDI when his portrait was selected for their 1998 calendar; his picture (with bleached hair) appeared for the month of May. Preston is remembered for his sense of humor and diverse interests. He regularly experimented with his¯look particularly his hair. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends.¯ He liked cats, reptiles, alternative music, and reading.¯ He had a very sensitive nature. His younger cousins adored him.¯He had a great time on the family's recent cruise to Alaska. He assisted the cruise chefs in a cooking demonstration and documented his adventures on a digital camera.¯His family treasures this time spent together.¯Preston is survived by his loving and caring mother, Susan (Suzi) Burns; and his¯Auntie B,¯ Barbara Grothus, both of Albuquerque; uncles and aunts, Tom Grothus and Wendy Slotboom of Seattle, WA and Mike and Heidi Grothus and their children, Casey and Michelle (MEG) of Niwot, CO; Poppa and Grandma,¯Ed and Margaret Grothus of Los Alamos, NM; grandmother, Ruth Davis and family of Wilmington, NC; and many members of his extended family.¯ He was preceded in death by uncle, Ted Grothus. The family wishes to express deepest gratitude to Preston's long-time mentor, Bill Bordone, of Wise Men, Wise Women, for his unswerving 10-year dedication to Preston.¯We also wish to acknowledge Leslie and Randy Bush for their commitment to his recent successes.¯Services will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE.¯Friends are encouraged to bring their memories to share with his family.¯A reception will follow at the Rio Grande Cantina, 901 Rio Grande NW. Chavez -- Elena M. Chavez, 50, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away November 29, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Joe F. Baca of Albuquerque; sons, Joe and Steve Sanchez; daughter, Freida Sanchez of Albuquerque; mother, Nickey Sanchez of Albuquerque; sisters, Teresa Trujillo of Colorado Springs, CO, Carmen Padilla and Sylvia Cerrillo, both of Albuquerque, Mary Lou Sanchez of Denver, CO, Gloria Cerrillo of Albuquerque, Julia Garcia of California, Cinda Baca and Flora Trujillo, both of Clovis, NM; brothers, Tony Sanchez, Gabriel Sanchez, and Johnny Sanchez, all of Albuquerque, and Leroy Sanchez of California; loving aunt, Rosie Padilla of Albuquerque; and 10 grandchildren. Duffee -- William M. (Bill) Duffee passed away November 25, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife, Neva; and infant son, Earl. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Pearl; beloved father of three children, William (Cheri) Duffee, Catherine (Bob) Millar, and Barry (Linda) Duffee; three step-children, Barry (Janet) Silbaugh, Steve (Becky) Silbaugh, and Barbara Pinzak; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, James (Betty) Duffee. Bill was born October 16, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio and served courageously in the South Pacific during WWII on the USS Nicholas DD449. He moved his family to Albuquerque in 1957, and in 1958 founded ALTEC, where he was acting president until his retirement in 1989. He and his wife, Pearl have lived in Sun City, AZ for the past 11 years where he was active in many private organizations. They were blessed with many years of happiness, which included numerous trips to Germany and other countries. They came to know and love many people there. He was a wonderful husband and father, and a generous, fun loving man that will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial Services will be held in Albuquerque on December 5, 2002 at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice.

Fleming -- Violet M. Fleming, a resident of Albuquerque for 44 years, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2002, at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. Her husband, John S. Fleming, preceded Violet in death. She was born March 12, 1914 in Pennsylvania. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Kosel and husband, Edward, of Albuquerque; sons, John"Jack" and wife, Josephine of Santa Fe, Richard and wife, Patty of Albuquerque; sister, Lois Hawk of Blakeslee, PA. Mrs. Fleming was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and the Sonata Club. In addition to being an excellent cook, Mrs. Fleming was known for taking special care of her husband, children and grandchildren. Mrs. Fleming's family appreciates all the care that Manor Care Sandia Hospice provided for her. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2002, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors, with funeral service on Thursday, December 5, 2002, at 9:00 am in the Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors Chapel, 3113 Carlisle NE. Gallegos -- IN MEMORIAM MICHAEL WAYNE GALLEGOS Michael Wayne Gallegos, 50, died Wednesday in Portland, Oregon. Born on January 4, 1952, in Pueblo, Colorado, he had been a resident of Vancouver since 1986. Mr. Gallegos was a jeweler, goldsmith and 1979 graduate of The Paris School of Jewelry. He was the proprietor of Michael's Fine Jewelry in Vancouver. He studied Martial Arts and held a black belt in Kenpo, for which he was titled Yadansha. He was also schooled in Judo, Kajukkenbo, Wingchun Gungfu and was working on certification in Kosho. Mr. Gallegos is survived by his wife Maureen, at home in Vancouver and two children; Amanda Knox of Austin, Texas and Devan Gallegos of Seattle, Washington. He has two sisters in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Janie Wolf and Cristine King, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and an extended family throughout New Mexico, Arizona and Arkansas. He will be loved and missed by all. A Mass in his remembrance will be said Sunday, 11:00 a.m. on December 8, 2002 at the St. Mary's Church in Ojo Caliente, N.M.¯ Followed by a memorial service at his Aunt Lupe Sena's home.
