DURAN -- Gilbert Duran Jr., 89, a resident of Los Angeles, CA and a former resident of New Mexico, passed away on April 30, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Catalina Duran; sons, Alfonso Orlando Duran and Gilbert Duran III; daughters, Patricia Duran and Catherine Duran; a sister, Ernestina Duran Evans and her son, Stanley Evans; He is the beloved grandfather of Adrienne and Jeffrey Shanks and Andrew and Michael Duran; and the great-grandfather of Adam Shanks. He is also cherished as a loving grandfather by the family of his wife, Catalina, who welcomed him into their home with love and great kindness. He is also survived by numerous relatives in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Born in the New Mexican village of El Rito, Gilbert left at age 17 to find work in California. Enlisting in the army at the start of WWII, he served in the battle of Corregidor and was one of the thousands of soldiers who endured the Bataan March and over three years of prison camp before liberation. Upon his return he earned a degree in Forestry at Colorado State University and spent his career in the U.S. Forest Service, first in New Mexico and later in Washington, D.C. Upon retirement and the death of his beloved first wife, Porfiria Ortega Duran, he moved to San Diego, where he followed politics avidly, having many incisive and trenchant letters published in the San Diego Times. He was a member of the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. til 7:00 p.m. at French - University location. DANIELS -- Luke Daniels, 4, loving son, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Luke was born April 9, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM. Luke was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Barbara Jaramillo, Walter Richards, and great-grandma Jones. Luke is survived by his loving parents Kenneth and Julia Daniels; brother Zachary Daniels; aunt Natalie and uncle James Thomas; uncle John and aunt Carlisa Daniels; aunt Emily and uncle Joe Murphy; grandparents Veronica Murphy and Kenneth Daniels; and his sweet nanny Margaret Duran. Luke will be missed by numerous cousins, friends, and family. Luke was known for his cuddling and his love for cars and trains. Luke enjoyed the outdoors, dancing, ju-jitsu and going to the zoo. Luke loved his family and they loved him dearly. Services for Luke are Saturday April 24, 2010 at Garcia Mortuary, 8th Street Chapel. GALLEGOS -- Susan June Gallegos, 47 went home on the Lord's Resurrection day, Easter, April 4, 2010 after a six year battle with breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Duran. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Tom; her beloved daughters, Jessica and Kristy; her father Juan Duran; her siblings Mike(Birgit), Ray(Dolores), Dianne(Jim),Paul(Carol), John(Lorraine); and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She touched many lives and will be in our hearts forever. GALLEGOS -- Higinio J. (Gene) Gallegos, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Celia Gallegos; his sister, Santos Baca; his brother, Frank Gallegos; and his son, James Gallegos. He is survived by his wife, Flora; his children, Mary Ann Duffy and husband, James, June Tafoya and husbad, Isaac, Stella Vallejos and husband, Bartolo, Arthur Gallegos, Virginia Gallegos, Patricia Sanchez and husband, Billy, Angelo Gallegos and wife, Beatrice, Manuel Gallegos and wife, Dianna. Higinio is also survived by his sisters, Tillie Martinez, Priscilla Duran and husband, Bernave; and brother, Joe Gallegos and wife, Donnie, along with numeorus nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a large extended family. Higinio was a proud Combat Veteran of World War II (Asiatic-Pacific Theater - Luzon and Phillipine Liberation) in the US Army (Staff Sergeant). He retired from the Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque. He was a lifelong member in various veteran organizations. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a caring brother, an inspirational father, and an unconditional loving grandfather. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening, April 7, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 820 Broadway Blvd SE. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 8, 2010 also at St. Francis Xavier Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N.
