Valencia -- Lucy Valencia, 70, beloved and devoted, mother and grandmother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Tuesday, October 16, 2001. Lucy was born in Ponderosa, NM to the late Transito and Perfectita Mirabal; she was a resident of Bernalillo; and a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Connie and Sonny Mirabal; two grandsons, Josiah Agapito Robertson III and Christopher Lovato; and a sister, Barbara Trujillo. She is survived by her loving children, Mary Aragon and husband John, Arlene Sisneros and husband Justin both of Bernalillo, Pat Moncado and husband Tony of Alamogordo, Gloria Tapia and husband Fernandez of Flagstaff, AZ, Becky Gonzales and husband Chris of San Juan, NM, Agapito Valencia Jr. and wife Elaine of Rio Rancho and Delfina Lujan and husband Johnny of Albuquerque; 16 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Survivors also include eight sisters, Ruth Goitia and husband Charlie of Tucson, AZ, Romie Marquez, Virgie Cordova, Tillie Tenorio and husband Rudy all of Bernalillo, Angelina Schwerkoske and husband John, Helen Miller both of Albuquerque, Patty Espinoza and husband Richard of Corrales, and Jeanette Lopez and husband Jim of Belen; three brothers, Rey Mirabal and wife Sandra of Las Cruces, NM, Pete Martinez of Bernalillo, and Jerry Martinez and wife Nora of Placitas, NM; numerous other relatives and friends. Lucy will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those who knew and loved her. Visitations will be Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A rosary will be recited Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Santuario de San Lorenzo Church in Bernalillo. Final viewing will be Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church; followed by Mass of Christian burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Internment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Benjamin Tapia, Joey Ohara, Johnny Lujan, Manuel Aragon, Tony Moncado, and Lawrence Rivera. Woods -- Lowell G."Woody" Woods, 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died Sunday, October 14, 2001. He is survived by his son, Richard L. Woods and wife Barbara of Tucson, AZ; two daughters, Joan Chapel and her husband, William, and Jean Armijo, all of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Jennifer Bliss and her husband, John, Jeffrey Woods and wife, Lisa, Lowell Conley and wife, Stacey, Sharon Chapel, and Cathy Chapel-Copher and her husband, David; six great-grandchildren, David, Alexis, Matthew, C.J., Sean and Katheryn Helen; brother, Parker J. Woods and wife, Lucille and sister-in-law, Marjorie McVicker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen; sisters, Antonette, Nell, Dorothy and Velis; and one brother, Francis. Mr. Woods was a graduate of Utah State University. He worked for 40 years with the USDA Forest Service and his assignments included working in the Western United States and Washington, D.C. Mr. Woods retired as Director of the Watershed Management, Southwest Region in 1969. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Rotary Club and the Lions Club. Mr. Woods was also a member of the Society For Range Management. Gardening, fishing and golfing kept him in the outdoors he loved so much. Mr. Woods was a grand storyteller and a true gentlemen. Services will be held Thursday, October 18, 2001, at 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Chester T. Crooks -- Lily M. (Baca, Bond) Crooks, a lifelong New Mexican, and one of the few angels on earth, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2001. She was born May 4, 1925 in Las Vegas, NM to Helena and Ignacio Baca, Sr. Lily was married to Oberly Bond who preceded her in death in May, 1958. She later married James Crooks, who also preceded her in death in November, 1989. She is survived by her children, James Oberly Bond and wife, Charlene, and Sylvia Anne Kinkaid and husband, Roger. Lily also leaves behind two grandchildren, Amanda Kinkaid and Heath Kinkaid, as well as her brother, Ignacio Baca, Jr. and wife, Rosie, and her sister, Helen Regensberg and husband, Leroy, and countless family and friends. Lily was an incomparable wife, mother and friend. Her devotion for her loved ones and compassion for people earned her the respect and adoration of everyone she knew. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Father Francis X. Eggert, Celebrant. Dolan -- Helen V. Dolan, 82, a longtime resident of Albuquerque passed away on October 13, with her family and loved ones at her side. Helen was born in New York City, the daughter of Raymond and Catherine (Teller) Glover both of New York City. Helen is survived by her sister, Ann Turtell, and brother, Ray Glover both of New York City, and three sons, Daniel R. Dolan, a local attorney, and his wife, Carol, V. William Dolan, Jr., a local bank officer, and his wife, Kathie, Kevin P. Dolan, a systems analyst for Intel and his wife, Natalie. Helen also leaves seven grandchildren, Sean, Becky, Drew and Kaela Dolan and Chris Conger, Susan Vest, and Catherine Davis in Albuquerque, San Diego, San Jose, Pinetop, AZ, Tuscumbia and Montgomery, AL, plus seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. All the sons are longtime residents of Albuquerque. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Vincent Dolan, Sr. (USAF ret.). Helen and Vince were married during WWII when he was a B-24 pilot in North Africa and Italy. She traveled the world with her husband, a career military officer, and settled in Albuquerque in the 1950s. Helen was active in the Catholic Church; first at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and later, Church of the Risen Savior. She was a longtime member of the Retired Officers Wives at Kirtland AFB, the Dominican Retreat League, Alter League, and Pedal Pushers Garden Club. She was a master garden for a period of years and took great pride in her garden and flowers. In addition to gardening, quilting and children were large in her life for years. We will all miss your kind and quiet support and prayers. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church on Tuesday, October 16th at 10:00 a.m. Helen will rest beside her husband, Vince, at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe later in the week. Melendez -- Daniel C."Danny" Melendez, age 54 and lifelong resident of Albuquerque, continued his journey on Friday, October 12 2001, following a long battle with cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Danny's generous and kind spirit is carried on by Josephine, his loving wife of 32 years; his daughter Elizabeth of Atlanta, Ga,; father Jose Cardenas; foster mother Pauline Ornelas; sisters Gloria Miller of Waterford, Calif., and Helen Marianello of Oceanside, Calif.; and many friends who loved and respected him. A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 17 at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver Ave., SE where he had been employed for the past six years. A reception will follow at St. John's Kaseman Hall. Special thanks to all who visited and prayed for his recovery, to the doctors and staff at Lovelace for their loving care, the staff and clergy of St. John's and to Isabel Cabrera, Fernie and Geneva Flores, Rick and Debbie Flores, Tony and Rhonda Flores, and Carla Flores who were present at his passing.
