Aguilar -- Ramon R. Aguilar, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Saturday, October 13, 2001. Ramon was a resident of Bernalillo; a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church; he was a proud World War II Veteran; and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Ramon worked for Sandia Bas as a Security Guard from July 30, 1956 till he retired on June 30, 1978. He was preceded in death by a son, Martin R. Aguilar; a grandson, Chris Aguilar; three brothers, Desiderio, Monico and Ernie Aguilar; and two sisters, Antonia and Tomasita. Ramon is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Stella Aguilar of the family home; his son, Charles J. Aguilar and wife, Barbara of Bernalillo; a daughter in law Mannie Aguilar; his precious grandchildren, Lawrence, Charles, Martin Jr. and Roberta; three nephews which he considered as sons, Lawrence Navarro, Tony Navarro and Jerry Nieto. Survivors also include his sisters, Aneda Aguilar, Maria Feliciana Dominguez and husband, Dan, Consuelo Montoya and husband, Sefe; brothers, Desiderio Aguilar and wife, Juliette, David Aguilar and Vicky, and Johnny Aguilar and wife, Frances; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ramon will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Visitations will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Lawrence Aguilar, Charles R. Aguilar, Martin Aguilar Jr., David Aguilar, Desiderio Aguilar, Johnny Aguilar, Tony Navarro and Lawrence Navarro. Barela -- Mr. Victor Barela, 51, a resident of Albuquerque and formally of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away on October 12, 2001. Mr. Barela is the beloved husband of 30 years to Mrs. Margie Barela. He is also survived by his two loving daughters, Jerri Barela-Phillips and husband, Stephen of Pine Hill, New Mexico and Toni Barela, of Albuquerque; one granddaughter, Shea Phillips; five sisters, Connie Barela of Las Vegas, NM, Anna Vasquez and husband, Albert of West Minister, Colorado, Pauline Whittit and husband, Rick of Colorado, Elizabeth Barela of Las Vegas, NM and Rose Barela of Las Vegas, NM; three brothers, Frank Barela of Las Vegas, NM, Richard Barela of Albuquerque and Anthony Barela of Las Vegas, NM; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Barela was a member of the Catholic Church, Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Vietnam Era and the Gulf War, he was a member of the V.F.W. in Las Vegas, NM. Barksdale -- Daniel P. Barksdale, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away October 13, 2001. Daniel was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, a member of American Legion Post 49, the V.F.W and Solo Club of Albuquerque. He loved dancing and listening to music. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Lee"Pee Wee" Barksdale in 1992. He is survived by: his daughter, Francine Heiser and husband, Fred of Albuquerque; loving companion of four years and one month, Josie Lamberti; three grandchildren, Wanda Heiser Caldwell and husband, Wess, Rene Heiser Byer and husband, William, all of Albuquerque and Richard Barksdale and wife, Anna of Missouri; and six great-grandchildren, Charity Mae Barksdale, Shelton, Brandyn and Trenten Caldwell, Kyle and Ryan Byer. Burns -- Robert J. Burns, 72, was called to the Lord on October 11, 2001. Bob was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 27, 1929 and was raised during the Great Depression. In 1945, Bob lied about his age and joined the Merchant Marines during WW II. Bob worked with demolition in the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, was a fisherman, and an ironworker. Bob served in the New York Army National Guard and in 1948 went to active Army duty. While serving as a Military policeman, Bob was stationed at what is now Kirtland Air Force Base, served in the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. Immediately attending the University of New Mexico, Bob played basketball, baseball, and is most noted for his entry into the U.N.M. Hall of Honor for the 1952 Lobo Football team. Even after amputations, Bob continued his athleticism in the Senior Olympics. Bob earned his degree in business management and fought his way to vice-president of Albuquerque Savings and Loan. Bob later retired as an Administrative Officer for the Bernalillo County Fire Department. Bob was a commander at American Legion Post 13, where he involved the Legion in the Special Olympics and Fourth of July fireworks displays. Bob was a current member at Legion Post 99 and a former member of the Elks Club. The heart of Bob Burns touched many lives as he participated in the Veterans Hospital volunteer program for amputees, worked as an A.D.A. inspector, lobbied the state for strict penalties regarding the disabled, and received the Gordan Gin Good Neighbor Award for Youth Activities. Bob was a member of Immanuel Luthern Church. Bob was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, John. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie of thirty years; brother, Tom; sisters, Genevive and Gertrude; daughter, Connie; two sons, Robert and Todd; and three grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 15, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho with Pastor Randy Walquist officiating. Crooks -- Lily M. (Baca, Bond) Crooks, a lifelong New Mexican, and one of the few angels on earth, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2001. She was born May 4, 1925 in Las Vegas, NM to Helena and Ignacio Baca, Sr. Lily was married to Oberly Bond who preceded her in death in May 1958. She later married James Crooks, who also preceded her in death in November, 1989. She is survived by her children, James Oberly Bond and wife, Charlene, and Sylvia Anne Kinkaid and husband, Roger. Lily also leaves behind two grandchildren, Amanda Kinkaid and Heath Kinkaid, as well as her brother, Ignacio Baca, Jr. and wife, Rosie, and her sister, Helen Regensberg and husband, Leroy, and countless family and friends. Lily was an incomparable wife, mother and friend. Her devotion for her loved ones and compassion for people earned her the respect and adoration of everyone she knew. Culver -- Laura Medley Culver, 97, passed away October 9, 2001. She was born in Novelty, Missouri on October 8, 1904 and had lived in Albuquerque since December 1964. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Cravens and husband, Miller; two granddaughters and their husbands; and two great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved.

Dolan -- Helen V. Dolan, 82, a longtime resident of Albuquerque passed away on October 13, with her family and loved ones at her side. Helen was born in New York City, the daughter of Raymond and Catherine (Teller) Glover both of New York City. Helen is survived by her sister, Ann Turtell, and brother, Ray Glover both of New York City, and three sons, Daniel R. Dolan, a local attorney, and his wife, Carol, V. William "Bill" Yolan, Jr., a local bank officer, and his wife, Kathie, Kevin P. Dolan, a systems analyst for Intel and his wife, Natalie. Helen also leaves seven grandchildren, Sean, Becky, Drew and Kaela Dolan and Chris Conger, Susan Vest, and Catherine Davis in Albuquerque, San Diego, San Jose, Pinetop, AZ, Tuscumbia and Montgomery, AL, plus seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. All the sons are longtime residents of Albuquerque. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Vincent Dolan, Sr. (USAF ret.) Helen and Vince were married during WW II when he was a B-24 pilot in North Africa and Italy. She traveled the world with her husband, a career military officer, and settled in Albuquerque in the 1950s. Helen was active in the Catholic Church; first at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and later, Church of the Risen Savior. She was a longtime member of the Retired Officers Wives at Kirtland AFB, the Dominican Retreat League, Alter League, and Pedal Pushers Garden Club. She was a master garden for a period of years and took great pride in her garden and flowers. In addition to gardening, quilting and children were large in her life for years. We will all miss your kind and quiet support and prayers. A rosary will be recited on Monday, October 15th at 7:00 p.m. at the Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming NE. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church on Tuesday, October 16th at 10:00 a.m. Helen will rest beside her husband, Vince, at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe later in the week. Duran -- Leo Michael Duran, infant son of Stacey and Leo; and brother of Deanna passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2001 in Albuquerque after a lifelong battle with cancer. Leo is survived by his grandparents, Betty Trujillo and Joe Duran, Debbie and Henry Chavez; great-grandpa, Clyde"Papa" Giroux; and many, many aunts, uncles and cousins. During his short 16 1/2 months of life, he touched many people and brought much joy and happiness. Helton -- Thomas Helton-Gaynor, 76, a resident of McIntosh, NM, and formally a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, October 14, 2001. He is survived by his wife, La Verne Gaynor of McIntosh; son, David Gaynor, of Albuquerque; sister, Ruby Jones, of Tennessee; and brother, Bob Helton of Ottawa, Canada. Mr. Helton-Gaynor was the owner and operator of Atlas Transmissions in Albuquerque for 36 years. He was an avid golfer, sports fan and car enthusiast and genuinely loved life. He will be sorely missed by many friends. Services will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2001, at 1:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.

Jones -- George Wesley Jones, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1969 died on Friday, October 12, 2001 while in the loving and compassionate care of Sandia Hospice In-Patient Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was 94 years young. Mr. Jones was born on February 15, 1907 in Inman, Kansas the son of George Wesley Jones, Sr. and Marie (Finch) Jones. He attended the University of Kansas where he distinguished himself on the University of Kansas Jayhawk track team. He was also a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. He graduated in 1933 with a BA in Economics. Additionally, Mr. Jones was a Free Mason and a member of the Shrine. Following a short business apprenticeship with the Ford Motor Company in California, he traveled to Shanghai, China where he was the advertising agent for Comacrib Press. His assignments there took him to many countries throughout the Far East. Then he was an Instructor of History and Mathematics and Director of Athletics at the Seoul Foreign School in Seoul, Korea. In 1935, he joined the Singer Sewing Machine Company in Seoul, Korea as Assistant Office Manager where he supervised the activities of the central office staff. He was also responsible for sales and promotions work in Korea and Manchuria, China. In 1939, he was transferred to the United States because of war conditions in the Far East. He joined the Cincinnati, Ohio branch of Singer Sewing Machine Company and served in the capacity of Regional Auditor for Singer¯s Branch Offices. In 1942, he was appointed as a Special Agent for Foreign Funds Control, United States Treasury Department. He subsequently joined the US Army Intelligence Corps and served the remainder of WW II in the Far East supporting military activities there. During post-hostility occupation of both Korea and Japan, he served on General MacArthur's staff. In 1946, he rejoined the Far East Division of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. He spent two years at the New York headquarters training and was subsequently assigned as Office Manager for Singer in Shanghai, China. He rose through the managerial ranks of Singer serving as General Manager for Singer's operations in Japan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. He retired and moved to Albuquerque in 1969. He was married on July 16, 1936 to Rachel (Glenn) Jones who died on November 3, 1970 in Albuquerque. He then married Eula (Cole) Jones on February 14, 1973. He is survived by his wife, Eula of Albuquerque; his daughter Jackie, his son-in law, Dan March; two grandsons, David March and Steven March and their wives, Stacey and Tracy all residing in Northern Virginia; his sister, Esther Rauh, who currently resides in St. Charles, Missouri. His stepchildren are Jack Cole and his wife, Barbara of Farmington, New Mexico; Carole Nickell and her husband, Bill of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Jimmy Cole and his wife, Barbara of Wichita, Kansas. He also has 12 step-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Hospice Memorial Foundation designated for Sandia Hospital Pavilion for Palliative Care, 4775 Indian School Road, NE, Suite 109, Albuquerque, NM 87110; or, The Shriners Hospital for Children, PO Box 31356, Tampa, FL 33631-3356. Martinez -- Miriam Marquez Martinez, 74, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, October 12, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Baltazar Martinez; children, Daniel Martinez and wife, Dianna and their children, Steven and Amy; Michael Martinez and wife, Evelyn and her daughters, Tiffany and Jennifer; Ruben Martinez and wife, Karen and their children, Nicolas and Erin; Robert Martinez, Mary Garcia and husband, Danny and their children, Miranda, Dominic, and Isaiah, Victor Martinez, Vincent Martinez and his son, Shane, and Ann Rippberger and husband, Charles and their daughter, Sarah; sisters, Maria Zandstra, Irene Urvanejo, Stella Sanchez, Martha Romero; and brother, Alfonso Marquez. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Constanza Marquez; sisters, Raquel Frankel, Lupe Rottner, Teresa Braddock; and brothers, Dr. Peter Marquez, Leon Marquez, and Gonzalo Marquez. Miriam was born on January 9, 1927 in Silver City, NM. She left Silver City in 1940 and moved with her family to Albuquerque where they settled in the Barelas Neighborhood. She attended and graduated from St. Vincent's Academy and then the University of New Mexico in 1951 with a Bachelors Degree in Education while majoring in Spanish and minoring in Portuguese. She became certified in 1953. She spent 40 years as a teacher. Before she graduated from college, she began teaching at St. Mary's where she taught Spanish I, II, III, and IV. She then taught at Wherry Elementary School on Kirkland AFB for 3 years. She had the first of her 8 children in 1957 and the last in 1965. You will know them as Daniel, Michael, Ruben, Robert, Mary, Victor, Vincent and finally Ann. In 1970, after several years as a fulltime mother, she began teaching the second grade at Our Lady of the Assumption School and stayed there until 1990. In 1996, she returned as a substitute teacher at Manzano Day School and Our Lady of the Assumption. She received the award for Outstanding Teacher several times at Our Lady of the Assumption and she was nominated for teacher of the Year amongst Parochial Schools. The nomination read:"Miriam Martinez has created a special classroom, a secure place where each second grader is achieving at his/her best level, where Miriam is generous with her time and affection, and above all where her faith and devotion are part of every day." She was well respected as an educator and loved by her students many of whom keep in contact with her. Her family was very active in the Barelas Community and Sacred Heart Parish for many years. Miriam was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother and had many friends. Rosary will be recited Sunday, October 14, 2001; 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lomas & Tennessee. Mass will be celebrated Monday, October 15, 2001, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Page -- Laura F. Page of Rio Rancho, passed away at her home on Saturday, October 13, 2001 at the age of 98 years. Laura was born February 2, 1903 the daughter of Peter and Laura Schuett in Ida Grove, Iowa one of 14 children. She attended school in the Ida Grove Schools and worked there until moving to California where she married Tom Page. Both Tom and Laura worked for Douglas Aircraft. In 1977 the Pages moved to Rio Rancho to be closer to her brother, Otto Schuett and sister, May Severns. Laura was an avid bird lover and had a beautiful aviary in her home in California. Laura was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, several service organizations including the American Legion Auxillary and the VFW Auxillary. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by many nieces and nephews in the nearby states. One niece, Maxine Schwartz lives in Rio Rancho. She is further survived by Fred Paugh, long time friend and caretaker, and by special neighbors, Jesse Morey and Jody Schafferkoetter. The Visitaiton for Laura will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the Service at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho with Pastor W. Pierce -- Dwight Elkanah Pierce, 78, a resident of Albuquerque for 32 years, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2001 in his home in Albuquerque after a brief struggle with heart disease. His sisters, Ruby Truitt and Helen Miller Wyss, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Edna of 59 years; brother, Ted Pierce and wife, Jeannine, brother, Richard Pierce and wife, Vivian; son, Paul Pierce and wife, Sharon; son, Jim Pierce and wife, Jan; four grandchildren, Brenda Eatough and husband, Michael, Tamara Labit and husband, Jim, Ted Pierce and fiance, Allyson, Katie Jacquez and husband, Ram; and four great-grandchildren, Dustin Labit, Dillon Labit, Katherine Eatough, and David Eatough, and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. Dwight was born in Stratton, Nebraska on April 16, 1923. He was extremely devoted to his wife and family and loved them all dearly. He worked very hard for more than 30 years to make his farm and ranch north of Stratton be a show place that was very successful. His Black Angus cattle werre a source of deep pride and were sold over much of the United States. He also owned and operated several other successful businesses including manufacturing and real estate. Richards -- Homer R. Richards, Jr., 78, was born May 19, 1923 in Lorraine, TX and passed away October 12, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, Homer R. Richards, Sr.; mother, Jewell Richards and son, Monroe (Monte) Jay Richards. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy; daughter and son-in-law, Quita Kay and Michael Smith; sister, Quita Mathis of Corpus Christi, TX; grandchildren, Michael Jay Glass and wife, Dawn; Kimberly Ann Richards, Christine Lucille Richards, Damian Bruhm and wife, Coletta and six great-grandchildren, Alyssa Marie Glass, Lindsey Michelle Guiterrez, Kaitlyn Grace Glass, Makaela Bruhm, Hannah Bruhm, and Noah Steven Glass. Homer served his country in the Navy during WWII and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He was an alcoholism counselor for the State of New Mexico in Albuquerque and Roswell for many years. Graveside services will be held Monday, October 15, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at Fairview Memorial Park with Dr. Bob Butler officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Pearl Harbor Survivors' Association. Sims -- James F. Sims, 81, of Albuquerque, passed away in his home October 11, 2001. James was born in Blakely, Georgia. James retired as Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49 and the V.F.W. He did volunteer work for the senior centers and played in the Palo Duro Senior Band. James had an extraordinary impact on the people in his life, always helping others with his positive attitude and was a true guiding light to his family. He loved nature, especially his gardening, fishing and feeding his birds. He was passinate about sports, particularly football as a Green Bay Packers fan. He played basketball and baseball in high school before joining the Air Force. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. James is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gloria Sims; five children, Beverly Ladrie and husband Elliott of Tallahassee, FL., Pat Bartlett and husband, Homar of Palm Bay, FL., and James Sims of Florida, Catherine Cates of Albuquerque and Edwain Zachow Jr. of Cedar Hill, TX.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary with The Rev. Michael J. Schamp as celebrant. Interment of cremated remains will immediately follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. Strohl -- Merritt Barton Strohl (Bart) July 28, 1934 - October 12 ,2001Bart was born in Paradise Township, PA. after his graduation from Easton High School, Bart joined the Air Force and was stationed in Korea. He was discharged in 1960 in Albuquerque and attened UNM for his music and teaching degree. Bart had many interests including a 32nd Degree Mason, the Second Gear Racing Club, American Legion Post 13 Drum and Bugle Corp. Bart performed for Music Theater, ACLOA, and Vortex Theatre. Bart was musically active with Die Polka Schlingles, and various other musical groups including SPEBSQSA Barber Shop singing. He was also the founder, director, and instructor of the Mid-Rio Grande Homeschool Band. (He was very proud of all his students.) Bart owned Uncle Bart's Music Shoppe. and was the consumate paternal figure. He is survived by his children; Mark , Barbara and husband Mark, William, and Joseph and wife Nancy Strohl. He is also survived by his dear friend and former wife, Roz Strohl, his mother Jean Strohl, sister Diane and husband David Funk, his grandchildren Adam, Alyssa, Tara and Jennie, and his neices and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his family, many friends, and students. Bart was truely the"Leader of the Band". Shalom, and Thank you from all of us. Villane -- Gerald "Jerry" Villane passed away Thursday, October 11, 2001 after a brave battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Villane; three children from his first marriage with Carmella Villane, Michael Villane and wife, Cheryl of Corinth, TX, Susan Linhart and husband, Mac of San Angelo, TX, and Scott Villane and wife, Candy of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Aimee and Valerie Villane, Jeff Sill, Alexandria and Lucas Linhart; and brother, Joseph Villane and wife, Virginia of Orlando, FL. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Catherine Villane and brother, Jimmy Villane. Jerry was born January 20, 1932 in Milford, NH. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Currituck. Jerry was employed at Sandia National Laboratories from 1958 to 1988. Following his retirement from Sandia, he was employed with the US Air Force at Kirtland AFB until 1996. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo Del Norte NE (just east of Eubank), with Rev.
