Karnas -- Chestin Thomas Karnas, 18 months, was emancipated to the angels on January 7, 2003 while in the loving arms of his family. Chestin was a beautiful boy whose courage and will to live touched all those who met him. Chestin was born with a rare genetic disorder, Sialic Acid Storage Disease, and through all his turmoil he offered miles of smiles, his deepest love, his faith and his hope. He was truly one of God's blessed little angels. The things Chestin liked most in life were the familiar voices of his many siblings, feeling the breeze through his long blonde hair, jogging daily with his mom, doing therapy sessions, traveling to the beaches of North Carolina, and most of all listening to his parents' delicate songs and rhymes. Chestin is survived by his mother and father, Mary Ellen and Chet Karnas; sister, Harley Elizabeth; brothers, Mason, Peter, Izaak and Skylar; grandparents, Marianne Karnas, and Tom and Elaine Corcoran; great-grandmother, Pearl Notartomaso; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Chestin's family would like to thank his doctors at UNMH, especially Dr. Ben Hoffman and Dr. Leslie Morrison; his favorite therapist at RCI, Gina Timms; his OT, Annie Gallagher; his PT, Karen Lucero; his visual therapist, Lin Coachman; his medical equipment supplier, Oscar Anderson; his hospice nurses at VistaCare, Deanna Dyke and Mary Driscoll; his nurses at UNMH; and all others who opened their hearts to our special little boy. Chestin was able to play the part of baby Jesus during Christmas Eve Mass at the Newman Center just before his death, it was a moment cherished by all who participated. A Mass will be said for Chestin at the Newman Center on Friday, January 10, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a brief ceremony celebrating his liberation immediately following at the UNM duck pond. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Chestin's memory to be given to UNMH Children's Hospital, 700 Lomas NE, 2 Woodward Center, Suite 100, Albuquerque, NM 87104.

Keranen -- Tauno E. Keranen, 79, a resident of Cedar Crest, died on Monday, January 6, 2003. Tauno was born and raised in Ironwood, MI and moved to Albuquerque in 1947 where he worked at Rio Grande Steel. He was greatly loved and is survived by his wife, June Garvey Keranen; sons, Bob Keranen of Shelton, WA and Steve Keranen of Cedar Crest; daughter, Norma Keranen and husband, Tom Logan of Cedar Crest; grandchildren, Stuart and Jordan Keranen of Shelton, WA and Iain Logan of Cedar Crest; nieces, Kathleen Kingsbury of Las Vegas, NV, Beverly Davies and husband, Raymond of Albuquerque, and Mary Rupe and husband, Don of Albuquerque; and nephews, James and Barbara Garvey of New York City, NY, and Raymond Garvey III and wife, Jan of Loudon, Tennesee; and by many grand-nieces and nephews and many more friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alumni Chapel at UNM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Wildlife Rescue of NM, Inc., P.O. Keranen -- Tauno E. Keranen, 79, a resident of Cedar Crest, died on Monday, January 6, 2003. Nesbit -- Sarah A. Nesbit, 86, a resident of Albuquerque for 11 years, died Sunday, January 5, 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Kallsen and husband, Marv of Albuquerque; son, Dale Nesbit and wife, Julie of Rifle, CO; grandchildren, Craig Kallsen, Kris Donahue, Sheri Call and Keri Nesbit; and five great-granddaughters which were the light of her life. Mrs. Nesbit was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Nesbit. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Cremation has taken place and private services will be held in Arizona at a later date. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Lovely -- Guy R. Lovely, age 81 and a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years died on Thursday January 2, 2003 at his home following an illness. Guy is survived by his wife Violet L. Lovely; one daughter Elnora Abbin and her husband Thomas; two sons Eugene Mc Cafferty and his wife Rosemary and Lance Foderaro all of Albuquerque; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army for 20 years and retired as a CW2/W2. Guy was also the owner and operator of New Mexico Acoustics. Graveside services will be held Wednesday January 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery 700 Yale Blvd. SW with Rev. Tom Collins officiating. Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave SE are in charge of all arrangements.

Smith -- Shirley Faye Smith, 66, a resident of Portales and Mountainair, New Mexico, entered into rest Friday, January 3, 2003. She is survived by her husband Gary of Mountainair, New Mexico; her daughter Kim Wells and husband Wess of Mountainair; and a son Brad Smith and wife Pam of Burke, Virginia. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Tonia Dunlap, Tami Sue Wells, T Layna Mae Wells, and grandson Tanner Dunlap, along with many relatives and friends. she was preceded in death by sons Alan and Joe and parents Melton and Faye Hayhurst. Serving as pallbearers will be Tanner Dunlap, Jack Kerbo, Jr., Clifford Chisum, Darren Hayhurst, Tim Hayhurst, and Fred Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernie wells, Sam and Joyce Shaw, Susie Butler, Noel Rippee, Bob Beasley, Donny Luna, David Reese, F.M. Addison, Steve Poe, Gale Newberry, herb Newberry, George Brumfield, Tom Gossett, Tillie Luna and Kim Coffey. Memorial contributions in Shirley's memory may be made to the Christian Children's Home in Portales or Eagles Wings Youth Ranch in Mountainair. Visitation Sunday January 5, 2003 2:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m. Services will be held at Harris-Hanlon Chapel in Mountainair on Monday, January 6, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. with Wayne Baker officiating. Interment will follow at White Lake Cemetery, Gran Quivira, New Mexico. Arrangements are entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair.

Egan -- Thomas F. Egan II, 80, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Florence Egan of Albuquerque; sons, Tom Egan and wife, Jeanne of Long Island, NY, and Jim Egan and wife, Karin of Hohokus, NJ; daughter, Grace Egan of Westminster, CO; sons, Peter Egan of Dallas, TX, Dan Egan and wife, Janet of Denver, Co; daughters, Anne Egan, and Pattti Odegard and husband, Charles, all of Albuquerque; and ten grandchildren. Erdal -- Lucretia Billie Thomason Boring Erdal, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, died Thursday, December 19, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Cliff Erdal of Albuquerque; son, Paul R. Thomason and wife, Kathy of Plainfield, IL; granddaughters, Nicole Puhr and husband, Steve of Naperville, IL, Amanda and Heather Thomason of Plainfield, IL. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary F. Thomason; husbands, Albert F. Thomason and Wayne Boring. Lucretia was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She graduated from the University of Illinois. Lucretia was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served as a trustee and consulted on the remodeling of the church for the 50th year anniversary. She worked for Betty Crocker consulting on many cookbooks for them. She worked for the National Lamb Council and started the University of Illinois Home Extension Service. She later on worked as Training Interior Decorator for John M. Smyth Furniture in Chicago before moving to New Mexico with her husband, Al, to retire. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, January 4th, 10:00 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3715 Silver SE, with Pastor Tom Beach and Rev.
