Garcia -- In Loving Memory of Joseph L. Garcia August 22, 1926 - May 5, 2002It's hard to believe that it's been a year that dad went to be with the Lord. So glad to know he no longer suffers and is enjoying Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ. Just wanted to share with your friends and family some things that we would have liked to share with them. Dad was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie; father, Jose; three sisters, Alice, Ida and Bertha; brothers, Jimmy, Benny, and Albert; two sons, Baby Boy Garcia and Stanley; three grandchildren, Jerry, Tom and Keith. He is survived by his wife, Romie; daughters, Grace and husband, Don, Georgia and husband, Alex, Gerri and husband, George, Rose and husband, Al; sons, Reynaldo, Joseph and Patrick; grandchildren, Mandy, Nick and wife, Jessica, Rebecca, Raul, Michael, Heather, Lorenzo, Aaron, Vanessa, Ernest, Amanda, Isaiah and Sarah; sisters, Bessie Jaramillo and Helen Jaramillo; three brothers, Ernest, Ralph and Johnny. Dad was born in Jemez Springs, NM and lived there most of his life. Dad left quite a legacy of love and service to his family, community and country. He married mom in 1949 and served in the United States Marine Corps. Dad was an avid hunter and fisherman. He wasn't afraid to tackle anything. He was an electrician by trade, but he knew how to build houses, plumbing, garden, farm and mechanic. He was employed at Via Coeli Monestary. Dad worked sometimes seven days a week to support his large family. He managed to find time to serve on the village board as fire chief, water board, ditch association and mayor. He was always on a 24-hour call to the Jemez Springs Community. He was a charter member of the American Legion Post 75 and initiated the building of the American Legion Building in Jemez Springs as well as the Firehouse. He served in the Parish Council at his church, Our Lady of the Assumption Parish and was president of the Community Club. As mayor, he also extended the village city limits. Dad was also the life of the party. He loved to enjoy life and he did that. No one could holler louder than he, and dance like he could. Dad did these things even with his health problems. In 1989, he suffered a heart attack in which he underwent a triple bypass. That gave him 13 more years of life. In 1998 his kidneys went bad and had to start dialysis treatments. With the dialysis center in Rio Rancho, he moved there to be near the center. What a blessing for those of us who lived in town and we're able to see dad quite often. Dad had many friends and acquaintances. Dad was true to his faith. He was a diehard Catholic but he did ask Jesus Christ to be his Lord and Savior. We miss you dad and love you very much, but we know where you are and look forward to being with you some day. Rejoice in the Lord.
