Henson -- Lenore Henson was one of the first New Mexico women to join the newly organized Women's Army Corps as a private in 1942. She served in the South Pacific during World War II having gained the rank of sergeant. After the war, she used the G.I. Bill to obtain a degree from Southern Methodist University. She then enlisted in the Air Force Reserves and was called into active duty as a lieutenant in 1950. She served 26 years in the Air Force, rising to the rank of full colonel as a comptroller. She served in England, France, Germany, and Japan, as well as Texas, Washington D.C., Virginia, and California. After retirement in 1974, she was active in her neighborhood association and the Republican Party, especially during the Senate Campaigns of Pete Domenici and Harrison Schmitt; and the Congressional Campaign of Steven Schiff. She also served as chairman of the New Mexico Convention of the International Women's Year in 1978. She was born in 1921 in Henrietta, TX, the daughter of Bryan and Della Henson. She graduated from Roswell High School in 1939, having worked at odd jobs while attending school throughout most of the great depression. She died of lung failure at St. Joseph's Hospital on June 9, 2000. Memorial service will be Wednesday, 7 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University NE, with Chaplain Col. Lemuel M. Boyles officiating. Interment of cremains will be Thursday, 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. She is survived by her four sisters: Estelle Goodrich and husband, Samuel, Laverne H. Rison of Albuquerque, Patsy Ruth Underwood and husband, Bill of Ft. Worth, TX, Jonette Ballmer of Clearwater, FL, as well as 15 nieces and nephews. Sultemeier -- William H."Bill" Sultemeier, 82, a native New Mexican and a resident of Espanola passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 9, 2000 due to a lengthy illness. Mr. Sultemeier was Bank President at Valley National Bank for many years and currently Chairman of the Board for Valley National Bank. He was a member of Valley View United Methodist Church, a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Masons, and a U.S. Army Veteran. He loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 59 years; Avella Sultemeier of Espanola; his children, Karen Woodall of Albuquerque, NM, William H. Sultemeier and wife, Donna of Cimarron, N.M., Steven Sultemeier and wife, Barbara of Albuquerque, N.M., Ronald Sultemeier and wife, Sandra of Orchard Park, NY, Robert Sultemeier and wife, Lynn of Issaquah, WA, and Beth Sultemeier of Espanola; one brother, Harold Sultemeier and wife, Doris of Albuquerque, N.M.; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 6:30 p.m. with a Devotional Service at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2000 at the Valley View United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at the Santa Cruz United Methodist Church. Garcia -- Rita Garcia, 75, a lifelong resident of New Mexico and resident of Bernalillo died, Tuesday, June 6, 2000. She is survived by her children, Ernest (J.A.) Garcia and wife, Barbara of Bernalillo, Denise Garcia and friend, Geri of Albuquerque, Louise Garcia-Sanchez and husband, Pat of Bernalillo and Steven Garcia and wife, Denise of Rumford, ME; granddaughters, Elaina, Maria Rita, Brianna, Brittany and Stephanie; five brothers, Cayetano Aguilar and wife, Barbara of Albuquerque, Filimon Aguilar and wife, Alice of Bernalillo, Raymond Aguilar and wife, Sylvia of Fountain Valley, CA, Edward Aguilar and wife, Dorella of El Paso, TX, Leroy Aguilar and friend, Algene of Bernalillo; two sisters, Mollie Navarro and husband, Tony of Bernalillo and Jennie Sandoval and husband, Gilbert of Jemez Springs, NM; sister-in-law, Antoinette Garcia of Bernalillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest M. Garcia; parents, Filomeno and Bernardita Aguilar; brother, Hipolito Aguilar; and sister, Mary Aguilar. Potts -- Ernestine Potts, 80, an Albuquerque resident since 1974, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000. She is survived by her daughters, Claudia Collier and husband, Rev. Paul Collier of Mankato, MN, Rosemary Potts and fiancé, Raymond M. Gabaldon of Belen, NM; son, Steven Potts and wife, Beth Ann of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Thomas J. Potts and Amanda S. Potts, both of Albuquerque, Paul Andrew Collier of Mankato, MN; sisters, Josephine Marino of Belen, NM, Dolly Indelicato of Pocono, PA; sister-in-law, Louise Potts of New York; nieces Linda Denninger and Donna Basile, both of New York. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Joseph R. Potts. Mrs. Potts was an active member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She retired from the Social Security Administration in 1994 after 20 years service. She will be greatly missed by all. Salazar -- Jenel Melissa Salazar, age 17, passed away unexpectedly at her home on May 31, 2000, following a sudden illness. Jenel was born January 22, 1983 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Roger and Jeanette Anaya Salazar. Jenel was a student at Santa Rosa High School and would have been a senior this year. She enjoyed working with arts and crafts, and drawing, she also enjoyed writing poems. Jenel worked for Rudy Sanchez at the Pecos Theatre for several years, she enjoyed volunteering her time at the Moise Memorial Library and she was currently working at the T and D Food Market. Jenel was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Dolores and Trancito Montoya, Toribio and Alicia Flores, Andalecio and Vicentita Cordova and Guadalupe and Rita Salazar. Survivors include her parents, Roger and Jeanette Salazar of the family home in Santa Rosa; her brother, Edward Romero of Wyoming; her maternal grandparents, Horacio and Martina Anaya; her paternal grandparents, Miguel and Beatrice Salazar, all of Santa Rosa. Also surviving are numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3 at 2:00 p.m. from the Santa Rosa High School Gymnasium with Rev. Kevin Coop officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Evergreen Cemetery in Santa Rosa. Serving as pallbearers will be her cousins, Justin Anaya, Angelo Anaya, Edward Lucero, Carlos Cordova, Steven Ray Cordova, John Maestas, Andrew Salazar and her brother, Edward Romo. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Class of 2001. Meidinger -- Garrett Paul Meidinger, born January 3, 2000, infant son of Michael and Amy Meidinger, died Monday, May 29, 2000.
