Mares -- Victor J. Mares died Tuesday in Albuquerque at the age of 48. He is survived by his mother, Esther Mares; wife, Pam Mares; daughters, Tanya Mares and Tina Mares; brothers, Robert Mares, Joseph Mares, Edgar Mares and Jeffrey Mares; sisters, Dora Archibeque and Sandra Tenorio; and a grandchild, Akela Mares. Funeral services for Victor will be held on Friday at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pena Blanca, NM, where the Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Pena Blanca Cemetery. Ludi -- Eloy E. Ludi, 81, a lifelong and well known resident of Las Vegas, NM, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2000, following a long struggle with Leukemia. Born in 1919, he was a retiree from the Department of Labor, where he was Director of the Las Vegas office for 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Jacob Ludi and Cecilia CdeBaca Ludi; brothers, William Ludi Sr., John J. Ludi Sr., Louis Ludi Sr., and Eddie Ludi; sister, Annie Mares and in-laws, L.C. Espinoza and Rosalie Chavez Espinoza. Eloy is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Lula of the family home; daughters, Carolyn Joann Carr and husband, Bill, Dorothy Withers and husband, Dennis, and Deborah Leitch and husband, Kevin; one son, Lloyd Ludi and wife, Christine. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Josh Blackmore, Robin Nowaki, Terryl Blackmore, Rodney Blackmore, Melissa Begeman, Bryan Withers, Jason Withers, Lloyd Aaron Ludi, Ryan Ludi, Andrea Leitch, Jonathan Leitch, Ian Leitch and Heath Leitch, along with ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Joe Ludi and Phillip Ludi and wife, Dale; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Fuentes, Millie Lohr, Irene Zern and; one brother-in-law, Donald Espinoza. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Las Vegas. Father George Salazar will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2000 also at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow at San Antonio Cemetery also in Las Vegas. Shelto -- Mr. Jon H. Shelto, 58, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on May 4, 2000. Mr. Shelto is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Mariah; one daughter, Jazzy Shelto; two sons, Darrel Mullendore and Charles Shelto and wife, Denise; six grandchildren, Darrle Jr., Brittany, Charles, John, Mariah, Lucerta and Jon Andrew; three sisters, Ellen Dawkins and husband, Louis, Marilyn Shelto and Karen Lowe; three brothers, Steven Shelto and wife, Marie, Clarence Shelto and Kevin Shelto; several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Mr. Shelto was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, a Minister of the word, A Gospel singer, a painter, and loved his family. A prayer service will be Sunday afternoon in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor James Mitchell, officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. A Committal service with full Military Honors is scheduled for Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Lucero -- Filemon F. Lucero, 73, a longtime resident of Pena Blanca, died Wednesday, April 20, 2000. He is survived by his daughter, Judy and husband, Pat Romero of Santa Fe; his son, Anthony Lucero of Santa Fe; a sister, Rita Goske of Pena Blanca, NM; brothers, Benigno Lucero of Bakersfield, CA and Ben Lucero and wife, Petra of Santa Fe; granchildren, Alisha, David and Daniel Romer of Santa Fe; nieces, Yvette Goske de Chavez and husband, David of Pena Blanca, Corina Goske of Pena Blanca, Sara Lucero of Santa Fe, and Maryann Rogers and Arlene Medina of Bakersfield, CA; nephews, Greg Mares of Phoenix, AZ, Bernard Lucero of Padadena, CA, Randy Lucero of Santa Fe, Steve Mares of Burbank, CA, and Phillip Lucero of Maryland; nine great-nieces and six great-nephews; seven great-great nieces and nephews; a special aunt, Pablita Hurtado of Santa Fe; friend and companion, Francisco Boyd of Pena Blanca; and many cousins and friends. Filemon was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Air Force. He retired from Civil Service at the Veteran's Hospital in Albuquerque in 1969. Mares -- Albert R. Mares, 76, a resident of T or C, NM died at his home following a short illness. Mr. Mares was born April 7, 1924 to the home of Rito S. Mares and the former Catarina Riberia. He was reared and attended school at Fort Sumner. He served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II, including a tour of duty in Italy. While in the service he competed as a welterweight boxer. Albert worked for the NM State Highway Department for 35 years. He traveled throughout the state as a bridge construction foreman. Following his retirement he made his home in T or C for the past 20 years. Albert was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He enjoyed dancing. Survivors include five brothers, Thomas, Chano and twin brother, Hilbert Mares, all of Fort Sumner, NM, Robert Mares of Belen, NM and Ruben Mares of Albuquerque. Also surviving are six nieces and nephews. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2000 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2000 from the church with Father Sotero A. Sena, celebrant of the Mass. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Raymond Jo Samora, Robert Lopez, Pete Segura, Ricky Mares, Tito Gonzales and Ray Mares. Castleman -- Kenneth Ray"Bo" Castleman, 67, a resident of Belen, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2000. He was preceded in death by his loving parents; three brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife, Winnie Castleman of 43 years; his daughters, Karen Ray Bernauer and her husband, Steve, Kathy Herring and her husband, Chad and Kimberly Ann Mares; his two grandsons, Korey Coombs and Kolten Herring; his granddaughter, Kristin Mares; his two sisters, Faye Gardner and her husband, Syl and Delilah McGuire and her husband Pete. Mares -- Leo R. Mares, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died on March 12, 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Amanda Montoya Mares and is survived by four sisters, Virginia Sanchez and husband, Fred, Loretta Garcia and husband, Anthony, Maria Mares and Gloria Baca, all of Albuquerque; and by 17 nieces and nephews. Gonzales -- Br. Andrew Gonzales (Prudencio C. Gonzales) F.S.C. passed away February 16, 2000 after a short illness. A De La Salle Christian Brother, Brother Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, Celestino Gonzales and Senobia Gonzales de Gonzales. He is survived by his brother, Tomas Gonzales of Pecos; nephew, Tommy Gonzales and wife Helen of California; nieces, Nova Snyder and husband, Ross of Pecos, Sylvia Harding and husband, Ernest of Pecos, Mildred Melendez and husband, Kenneth of Ohio, Cordelia Garcia and husband, Reyes of Santa Fe. He is also survived by his aunts, Isabel Gonzales-Mares-Hesch and Angelina Garcia of Pecos; and many grandnieces and nephews, and other relatives. Brother Andrew Gonzales was born in El Macho Pecos Canyon, January 8, 1906. He entered the De La Salle Christian Brothers in April, 1920, at Sacred Heart Training College in Las Vegas, NM. It was there that he received his religious Habit as a Christian Brother on October 22, 1921. Brother was assigned to St. Michael's High School in 1922. One of his memorable events while at the high school was the fire of 1926. As the fire was progressing, Brother noticed that one of his students was missing, he risked his life to save the young boarder who was asleep. Brother rescued the young boarder in his arms. Brother also taught in various schools in Louisiana, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, and Monterrey, Mexico. He served as principal of Cathedral High School in El Paso, TX and Mullen High School in Denver, CO. At the College of Santa Fe, he was a professor in accounting and English Literature. Brother Andrew retired to the Christian Brothers Community at St. Michael's, where he lived until his death. Visitation will begin on Thursday, February 16, 6:00 p.m., at Berardinelli Family Funeral Funeral Chapel, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 18, 10:00 a.m., at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community. Interment will follow at Rosario Cemetery.
