Romero -- Norman Speare Romero, 61, of Hot Springs, South Dakota, and formerly of Scottsdale, Arizona, died May 10, 2000. Norm was born December 2, 1938 to Flavio and Dolores Romero in Socorro. Norm attended Jr. High and High School in Albuquerque. Upon graduating from St. Mary's High School, he was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Arizona in the late 1950's and earned a varsity letter at offensive end. His athletic career was cut short due to a knee injury. He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Upon leaving the U of A, his interests eventually gravitated toward the sales of New Mexico properties for Horizon Land Corp. Venturing out on his own on a proverbial"shoe-string", he became through determination and perseverance, a master salesman and sales personnel recruiter, marketing properties in New Mexico, Arizona and eventually South Dakota. His presentations, techniques and innovations are the basic guidelines for todays high-tech assisted land development corporations. Norman's greatest commercial accomplishments came in the early 1970's. His vision was to take a piece of bare ground and build a city. As President and Chairman of the Board of Prescott Valley, Inc., that city today is the Town of Prescott Valley, one of the fastest growing communities in the state. Norm was an avid outdoorsman. Although a skilled fisherman and hunter, Norm always kept wildlife conservation at the forefront. He was also a registered trap shooter. His self-created financial success never prevented him, treating all who came across his path, with an equal degree of respect, regardless of their economic or social status. He was a kind and generous man and could tell a"story" with the best of them. Survivors include his father, Flavio F. Romero, Albuquerque; brothers, Lionel of Albuquerque, Leonard of Phoenix, AZ and Paul of Prescott Valley, AZ; sons, Bradley and Zachary of Littleton, CO, Taylor and Clayton of Hot Springs, SD; daughters, Daphne and Denise of Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Brianna, Wyatt, Kyle, Kona and Christopher Michael.
