FINCHER -- Scott Fincher, 39, passed away unexpectedly on December 29, 2008. Born in Albuquerque, NM he lived most of his life there, as well as Arizona and California. Scott was a local 611 union member. He enjoyed bowling, golf, fishing and playing guitar. He loved Motocross, RC racing and all things sports. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Christie Fincher; mother Jan Fincher; father Doyle Fincher (Tauny); sister Sarah Rhoades (Mike); brother James Lucher; two nephews Jordan and Jayce Rhoades; his cat of 17 years, Nitro; as well as many family and friends that miss him greatly. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009, 2 p.m. at Matheson Park on Morris between Candelaria & Menaul, in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, any donations will go to a Memorial Fund.

GALLEGOS -- Samuel Gallegos, 77, born January 10, 1931, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2008. Cremation has taken place. He was preceded in death by his mother Benita; and father Severo Gallegos. He is survived by six children, Lawrence, and wife Chickie, Linda Patino, and husband Tony, Vincent and wife Gloria, Sammy Jr., Geri, and Bernadette Gallegos. Ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his three sisters, Stella Mendez and husband Tom from Albuquerque, Helen Maciag and husband Joe from Rochester, NY and Laura Armijo from LA, California; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Therese Little Flower Church on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.

GAYLORD -- Daniel E. Gaylord, age 69, passed away on Tuesday December 30, 2008. Daniel is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter Natalie Gaylord; one grandson Daniel Edward Gaylord III; three brothers John and wife Carol Gaylord, Ned and wife Diana Gaylord, and Mitch Gaylord, Pearl and husband Will Rivera, Cynthia Bruce and RubyAnn Drennan. GODINEZ-OCHOA -- Diana Godinez-Ochoa, 50, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on January 6, 2009. Mrs. Godinez-Ochoa is survived by her beloved husband, Mike Ochoa; her children, Amy C. Rowland and husband, Jon, Michael S. Ochoa and wife, Andi, and Gregory M. Ochoa; her mother, Mrs. Concha Reyes; her sisters, Connie Madrigal and husband, Ed, Delia Ybarra, and Kathy Godinez and special friend, Dusty Ward; her brothers, Steve M. Godinez and wife, Kika, Robert Godinez and wife, Marci, and Art Godinez; her grandchildren, Gabby Ochoa-Gonzalez. Mia S. Rowland and Jon Mykael Rowland; and many exended family members and friends. Mrs. Godinez-Ochoa was preceded in death by her father, Steve A. Godinez; and her maternal and paternal grandparents. Diana touched many lives by always doing things for others before herself. Her spirit will always be watching over everyone and she will live on through others. GOMEZ -- Martha Elizabeth Gomez, 81, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died on January 3, 2009 after a brief but courageous fight. Martha is survived by her three children, Steve Gomez and wife, Mary Ann, of 29 years before her death, of Carnuel, NM, Linda Swan and husband, Bob, of Richfield, OH and Michael Gomez and wife, Susan, of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Francessca Mora and husband, Ray, Alicia Sanasac and husband, Zach, Raquel Casaus and Jesse Gomez, all of Albuquerque, NM. Martha dearly loved and received great joy from her three great-grandsons, Julian Michael Mora (Bubba) age 13, Jaden Ray Mora (Shorty) and Andres Miguel Casaus (Boo). Both Shorty and Boo are ten. Martha is also survived by her sisters, Helen Sacco and husband, Santy, of Albuquerque and sister, June Garcia, and husband, Ray, of Gallup, NM in addition to many loving family members. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Kie; and brother, Thomas Creager both from Laguna Pueblo. GONZALES -- Meliton M. Gonzales, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, passed on Sunday, January 4, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Anna Agnes Gonzales; two sisters, Angela Lawrence of Los Lunas and Zella Alderete of Socorro; nieces and nephews, Tony Gonzales and wife, Margaret of Indio, CA, Rey Perkins and wife, Trish of Arlington, TX, Jeanie Dean and husband, Herman of Tijeras Canyon, NM, Cindy Easley of Yelman, WA, Robert Lawrence of Albuquerque, Lorella Chavez and husband, Bill of Lemitar, Rocco Alderete of Arlington, TX, Mela Straley and husband, Dale of Socorro, Joel Alderete of Los Chavez, and Joella Livesey and husband, Drew of Portland, OR, Pauline J. Garcia of Albuquerque, Margaret Ann Garcia of Albuquerque, Anthony and wife, Lisa Garcia of Santa Monica, CA, Leta Mae and husband, Bill Bishell of California, Anthony Chavez of Phoenix, AZ, Michael and wife, Premie Chavez of Albuquerque, and Sara Hammond of Albuquerque; and many other great-nieces and great-nephews. Meliton was a great blessing to all he touched and a very special uncle who played an extremely important part in the lives of his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Captain Reynaldo Gonzalez, killed during the Bataan Death March, and Private Jose Antonio Gonzales (Tony), killed during the Invasion of Normandy; sister, Mela Perkins; and nephew, Evans Albert Garcia. Meliton was born on February 16, 1922 in Lemitar, to Antonio E. and Rufina V. Gonzales. He attended elementary school in Lemitar and graduated from Socorro High School. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed first in Africa, then in the South Pacific. While in the South Pacific, notification of the death of his brother, Tony Gonzales, arrived and after the request of his parents to the War Department was granted, he returned home; the only surviving son. Meliton received both his Bachelor and Master degrees from the University of New Mexico. He was a teacher who touched many young lives at APS for over 30 years, retiring as Vice Principal of Valley High School. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to Rosary. HOWARTH -- Andrew "Sarge" Francis Howarth, 89, died peacefully Monday, January 5, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret; children, Karen, Kristine, Andrew and his wife Sheryl; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Andrew was born on September 27, 1919 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps/U.S. Air Force for 30 years, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Joint Services Commendation Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal on three occasions. After retiring in Albuquerque, "Sarge" enjoyed countless hours with his good friends on the golf course. He will be greatly missed and always admired by those who knew him and loved him. HUGHS -- Juanita Blea Estrada Hughs was born March 17, 1913 to Celso and Cipriana (Nieto) Blea at Tremintina, NM. She peacefully passed away January 5, 2009 at Garden City, KS. She lived in New Mexico, Louisiana, and Kansas. Mother married Juan B. Estrada on August 30, 1928. To this union were born four sons and seven daughters. She had five daughters and one son from dad's first marriage. Dad passed way April 20, 1976 leaving her very lonely. She married John Hughs on January 15, 1979 he passed away December 10, 1991. She was a homemaker, doing lots of canning and making quilts for her family. She was a member of the Mennonite Church, Transylvania, LA. Funeral Services will be held 2:30 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 9, 2009. Burial at Mennonite Church Cemetery, three miles North of Tucumcari on Hwy 104. Survivors include seven daughters - Priscilla and Albert Mirabal, Goni and Pablo Lopez, Eleanor and Don Lopez all of Tucumcari, NM, Alice and Ernest Baerg of Transylvania, LA, Sophia and Verle Johnson of Ft. Sumner, NM, Anita and Jesse Loucks of Detroit, TX, Louella and Paul Loucks, Garden City, KS; and three sons Amadeo and Sylvia Estrada of Garden City, KS, Paul and Liz Estrada, and Daniel Estrada, all of Tucumcari, NM. Three step-daughters Carlota Trujillo of Logan, NM, Carrie Pacheco of Albuquerque, NM, and Beatrice Ensz, of Louisville, GA; 24 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; all her siblings; both husbands; one son; three step-daughters; one step-son; three step-sons-in-law; four great-grandchildren.

JEFFERSON -- Donald (Don) Lee Jefferson, age 76, died January 3, 2009, at the University of New Mexico Medical Center in Albuquerque, following a brief illness. Mr. Jefferson was born on April 8, 1932, to Elda Pearl and George Harrison Jefferson in Stillwell, OK. His grandparents were part of the generation that made the original Oklahoma Land Run in 1889. He graduated from Stillwell High School in 1948, and joined the United States Army in 1949. Mr. Jefferson served in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Campaign during his 30-year military career. In honor of his service and sacrifice to country, he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, along with numerous meritorious honors and medals. Mr. Jefferson married Gertrud Ilse Flaig of Kirchberg an der Jagst, Germany, in 1953. Together, they shared a military life and moved with the Army to Texas, Louisiana, France, Washington, West Virginia, Germany and finally, Colorado. He and Ilse had five children together. He was actively involved with the military protestant church community, often serving as a deacon, or teaching Sunday school, or leading adult Bible education classes wherever he was stationed. While in the Army, Mr. Jefferson sought to continue his education, receiving both his bachelor of art in history and master of art in psychology from the University of Maryland. His final tour of duty was at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. Following his retirement from the Army in 1979, he began to work for the State of Wyoming in the Department of Corrections where he worked as a prison psychologist and then managed the work farm. He then moved to Espanola, N.M., where he worked for the State of New Mexico in the State Health Department, and then left civil service to work as a hotel manager. In 1993, he moved to Gallup, N.M., where he managed the Ramada Inn up until his death. Mr. Jefferson enjoyed country music, old western TV shows and movies. He was always quick with a smile and a corny joke, and cared deeply for those around him, especially his employees at the Ramada Inn who became his second family. He had a special place in his heart for animals. He was loved by all, had not an enemy in the world, and lived his life with abundant joy. Mr. Jefferson is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Neil Jefferson; his grandson, Jack Jefferson; and his son-in-law Ron Gray. He is survived by his wife, Ilse, of Fort Collins, CO; his sons, Ron and wife Mary Jo of Valdostia, GA, and John and wife Dena of Colorado Springs, CO; his daughters, Rita Clark and husband Gary of Fort Collins, CO; Yvonne Gray-Garcia and husband Tony of Heidelberg, Germany, and Carol Borchert and husband Kevin also of Fort Collins. He was most proud of his grandchildren, Mickey and Rachel Jefferson, Michael and Lauren Clark, Christopher and Erin Gray, Grant Garcia, Alex and Anna Borchert, and Reese Jefferson. He also is survived by sister Opha Pearl Jefferson of Kansas City, MO; his nieces Karen, Deborah, Edith and Bob, and his long-time companion, Geneva Parsons. His three cats, Bubba, Savannah, and Samantha will miss him greatly. KERR -- Jack Loren Kerr, 86, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 and one-half years, Rita Kerr; daughters Janyce Preston and husband Rich of Albuquerque, Marsha Anderson and husband Don Anderson of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Douglas Preston of McMinnville, OR, Ethan Preston and wife Jennifer of Chicago, IL, Benjamin Preston of Webster, TX, Rebekah Preston of Albuquerque, Heidi Helgeson and husband Chad of San Antonio, TX, and Andrew Anderson and wife Julie of Euless, TX; great-grandchildren Kole Preston of McMinnville, OR, and John Kerr Helgeson, of San Antonio, TX; brother Vernon "Hank" Kerr and wife Barbara of Albuquerque; sisters Patricia Anderson of Albuquerque, Marilyn DeWitt and husband John, of Kirkland, NM, Shirley Phillips and husband Bill of Oregon, and Carol Bellor and husband Robert of Albuquerque; and brother-in-law Melvin Waite of Albuquerque. Mr. Kerr served in the Army Air Corp during WW II and was one of the first Flight Officers. Later, he shared his experiences with the Non-Commissioned Officers' Academy at Kirtland AFB. He worked as the Maintenance Supervisor at Manzano Base and Kirtland AFB Hospital. Jack was an avid fisherman and owned a cabin at El Vado, NM where he taught his grandchildren to fish. He was also a Cub Scout Leader. Cremation has taken place and mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106.
