MARTINEZ -- Samuel (Sammy) Martinez, age 69, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Virginia and his son, Tim and wife, Gloria. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Samuel, Tomas, Sarah, and her boyfriend, Nick; six great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Josiah, Malachi, Novali, Tomas, and Nicholas. Also surviving are three brothers, Porfirio and wife, Lorraine, Eli and wife, Mary, and Isaac; two sisters, Rachel Calliham, Lydia Herrera and husband, Joe; plus numerous relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Esperidion and Josefita; brother, Pat; and sister, Anna Dina. A Memorial Service will be held at the Central S.D.A. Church at 2201 Estancia, NW on Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, 920 Menaul NE. MEDINA -- The Rev. Dr. Jose de la Luz Medina, 98, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Independence, MO. Jose (Joe) was born October 27, 1910, on a homestead near Corumpa, NM, to Marcos and Isabel (Ruiz) Medina. He married Doris Cecilia Valverde on September 28, 1940. They lived all of their life together in New Mexico and Colorado. A Memorial Service of celebration of Joe's life will be held at the Second Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Medina grew up in Mora Valley in Northern New Mexico and was educated by Presbyterian missionaries at the Agua Negra Presbyterian Day School. The missionaries were instrumental in influencing Joe toward a life in Christian ministry. He attended Menaul High School, a Presbyterian mission school in Albuquerque. He earned his BA from the University of Dubuque in Iowa and then attended McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, where he received a Master of Divinity degree. In 1977 at the age of 67, he received his Doctor of Ministry degree also from McCormick. He was instrumental in setting up the D. Min, program in New Mexico that allowed pastors to continue their education in the field while pursuing a doctoral degree through McCormick. Rev. Medina's 40 years of ministry were devoted to all phases of Hispanic ministries. He served as a National Missions minister of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S. beginning his ministry in Las Vegas, serving the Second Presbyterian Church and four other small Hispanic churches in the area. He continued his missionary work in Alamosa, CO, in 1943 as pastor of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. From 1965 to 1970 Rev. Medina served as minister of the Alamosa Presbyterian Church. Rev. Medina moved to Albuquerque, NM, in 1970 to become the first Hispanic minister to be called to an executive staff position in the Synod of New Mexico. His position was as Associate Executive for Mission Implementation. He later became an Associate Executive for Hispanic Ministries in the Synod of the Southwest and Program Developer for the Presbytery of Santa Fe. He was honorably retired from the ministry in 1980 at the age of 70. He is survived by his daughters Olivia (Eldon) Moore, Council Grove, KS, Patricia (Erik) Swensen, Medford, OR, sons Charles (Elizabeth) Medina of Salida, CO, and Rev. Mark Medina of St Louis, MO; grandchildren, Angela (Ben) Moore, Scott (Tashina) Moore, Katie (Mark) Siemens, Rebecca and Kristen Medina, Ruthann and Rachel Medina, David (Chelsea) Swensen, and Joel Swensen; great-grandchildren, Ezekiel and Apollo Moore, Abbie Siemens, and Sierra Concha. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Verne Gonzales ( Albert) of Las Vegas, NM, Leota Romero of Cimarron, Edna Fowler of Albuquerque, Marilyn Valverde of Las Vegas, NV, Irma Peter of Mentone, CA, and one brother-in-law Ernest Manzanares and nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris (Valverde) Medina, two brothers Orcelio and Dan Medina and three sisters Frances (Medina) Manzanares, Preddy (Medina) Kemper, and Toni (Medina) Salazar. STANSBERY -- Rev. June K. Stansbery, of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at the age of 84. Dear daughter of the late Cyrus Dewey and Mabel Stansbery; loving sister of Edna (Bob) Rooney and Rev. Dr. Leslie E. (Margaret) Stansbery; cherished aunt of Robert (Nancy) Rooney, Sharon (Arthur) Lowell, Mark Dietrich (Yoshie) Stansbery, Paul Andrew Stansbery, Joy Kristine Sickles and Todd Peter (Nancy) Stansbery; dear great-aunt of Brenden and Dillon Lowell, Blaine Cyrus and David Stewart Sickles, and Peper Nystrom and Peggy King Stansbery. She is preceded in death by her infant brother, Dale Leon Stansbery. June attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, and graduated with a Minor in Music. Her first position after college graduation was as the Pastor's Secretary at First Presbyterian Church of Hannibal, Missouri. The Pastor resigned six weeks later, and June's responsibilities increased as she formatted the worship services and even led Sunday evening worship. Soon, June found herself attending McCormick Seminary to receive training in Christian Education. After graduating from McCormick Seminary, June moved to Galesburg, Illinois, to First Presbyterian Church where she was able to use her Christian Education and Music skills. June then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to work at Immanuel Presbyterian. While there, she received her Masters in Music Education from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She served in two positions in the Washington D.C. area in Silver Springs and Bethesda, Maryland, followed by a position at the Christ Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona. At Christ Church, she was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament on September 11, 1977, in the Presbytery (USA) 32 years ago. In 1978, June began working in the Synod of the Pacific in the San Francisco Presbytery as a Christian Education Consultant, a position she held for four years. June then came to St. Louis in 1986 and was part of the staff of the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy until her retirement, but we all know June never really retired. For the next 20+ years, she remained very active with Bell and Adult Choirs. She also assisted with pastoral duties as needed, including working in stated supply in many churches in the Presbytery. June's dream was an inclusiveness with strong dedication to Christ and His Church, so that the justice and mission in the world may flourish for all people. While living at Parkside Meadows, she remained active being a President of the Counsel. Services: The family is being served by The Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles, MO. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Charles Presbyterian Church, Gamble and Sibley Streets, St. Charles, MO, on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. Inurnment will be in St. Charles Memorial Gardens. STAPLETON -- Charles Edward "Buddy" Stapleton, 88, passed away June 2, 2009. He was born July 5, 1920 to William and Maggie Stapleton, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He is survived by his sister, Mary Sue Brummel; many nieces and nephews. He was close to great nieces and nephews, Melissa, Joshua, Chris, Rebekah, and Samantha. Charles was a resident of Albuquerque for 30 years. He faithfully served in the US Army for many years. Services will be held at Glory Christian Fellowship, Monday, June 8, 2009, at 7:00 pm. ESTRADA -- Eleanor A. Estrada, 97, a resident of Albuquerque for the last 4 1/2 years, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2009. She was faithful in prayer and God gave her the sweetest spirit. Eleanor was born in Phoenix, Arizona on February 20, 1912, a week after Arizona became a state. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Bonita Ortiz of Albuquerque; her daughter and son-in-law, Lucille and Victor Sanchez of Tempe, AZ; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, who will greatly miss her loving and kind manner and ready smile. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel; and daughter, Annie. In their youth, she and her brother, George, who passed away last month were both entertainers, he a singer and she a dancer. She will be remembered for her generosity, loyalty, and great sense of humor by the many friends and relatives whose lives she touched in her 97 years of life. Eleanor will forever live in the hearts of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she cherished and loved unconditionally. PADILLA -- Casimiro (Casey) M. Padilla Jr., 81, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 1, 2009. Mr. Padilla is survived by his partner in life, Dulcy Padilla; his seven children, Annabelle Montoya and husband, Frank, Fermin Padilla and wife, Maya, Patricia Padilla, Annette Padilla and Terry, Harry Padilla, Michael Padilla and Diana, and Sonya Lopez and husband, Alfredo; his sister, Lila Sanchez; brother, Joe Montano and wife, Kathy; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Padilla was preceded in death by his sons, Franklin Paul Padilla and Casimiro Padilla III. Mr. Padilla was a member of the Catholic Church, and a Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. Visitation will be Friday, June 5, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Church of the Ascension, 2150 Raymac SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Joe and Kathy Montano. Final visitation will be Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Church with a Communion Service to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. by Deacon Bill Hoeffler. TENNYSON -- Harold Tennyson, 83, passed away on June 1, 2009. Mr. Tennyson was born on January 29, 1926 to Charles E. and Nancy (McPherson) Tennyson of Denoya, OK. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces before moving to Albuquerque in 1961 and was an insurance adjustor prior to his retirement. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years; Marge (Delph) Tennyson, daughters, Trena B. Woods, and her husband James of Albuquerque, NM, and Jack A. Tennyson and his wife Patsy, of Los Lunas, NM; grandchildren Jimmy Hinson, Trish Hinson and Amber Tennyson; four great-grandchildren; and a sister Virginia Jaramillo. MATHISON -- Charles Glenn "Moose" Mathison, 90, resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009. He is survived by his daughters, Constance M. Henslee, and Carla Mathison; grandchildren, Anthony C. Henslee and wife, Gina, Brian Mathison and wife, Cassandra, Torrie Smith and husband, Brian; great-grandchildren, Brian Charles Henslee, Jared Anthony Henslee, Finnegan Jacob McCain, Oliver Owen Mathison; beloved nieces, Margot Alexander and husband, Judson, Barbara Taylor and husband, John, and Linda Bancroft and husband, Joe; beloved nephew, Larry Garrett and wife, Shari; and extended family, Michael and Margaret Creedon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy to whom he had been married for 68 years; sisters, Enid Mathison and Leora Laskey; and brother, Hendrix Mathison. He served with the US Marine Corp, Navy, Army and Air Force. In the Air Force, Charles was a test pilot, worked with satellite and missile research and development. He closed out his career as Base Commander at Kirtland AFB. Charles retired from the US Air Force in 1973. He was a member of the DAV, TROA and American Legion. From fighting forest fires in Montana to recovering satellite capsules from the sea, Charles was a devoted servant to his country.
