Montoya -- Susan J. Montoya, age 46, passed away June 29, 2001 at a local hospital. She was born January 8, 1955. She is survived by her parents, Anselmo J. Montoya and Margaret C. Montoya of Albuquerque; one brother, Arthur P. Montoya of Flagstaff; several aunts and uncles; and many loving cousins and friends. She was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. She worked for many years at UNM Hospital as a nurses's assistant. She enjoyed helping those with disabilities and later worked for Res-Care in Albuquerque from which she retired in 1996. Rosary was recited Monday, July 2, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Home, 3113 Carlisle NE. The Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Johnny Lee Chavez, Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. at the Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Manual Montoya, Joseph Chavez, Robert McKnight, Robert Chavez, Phillip Chavez, and Rodney McKnight. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Montoya, Robert Velarde, Louis Sandoval and Lewis Sisneros. The arrangements for Susan Montoya are under the direction of the Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Home.

Purcella -- Johnny D. Purcella passed away suddenly at his Mountainair ranch where he loved to be, on June 30th at the age of 55. He was a Vietnam Veteran, earning the Purple Heart and discharged with honorable mentions. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bernice Purcella and sister, Lenora Chavez. He is survived by his wife, Rose Purcella; son, Joe Juan Purcella; grandchildren, Chantel and Joe Juan Jr.; and four sisters, Josie Mills and husband, Richard, Melva Garcia and husband, Fred, Lucille Sanchez and husband, Tom, and Stella Benavidez and husband, Rudy. A Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension. Burial will follow at the Los Padillas Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Schmidt, Henry Sanchez, Rudy Purcella, Alex Tafoya Sr., Frank Cruz and Paul Lucero. Martinez -- Mrs. Stella M. Martinez, 88, a former resident of Bernalillo N.M. in her younger years and then a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 26, 2001. She was born December 26, 1912. She is survived by her two daughters: Rose Marie Alderete of Corrales, N.M. and Alice J. Sedillo; two sons: Charlie V. Martinez and wife Dorothy and Tom Martinez and wife Betty of Montebello, Ca.; a sister in law: Aniceta Martinez; 29 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Four generations survive her. She is preceded in death by her husband: Cleofes Martinez; parents: Rufino and Adela Martinez; son: Willie H. Martinez; daughter: Irene Alderete; a granddaughter: Amorette Alderete; a grandson: Fernando Anaya; son in law: John Sedillo Jr.; a daughter in law: Barbara V. Martinez; sisters: Fidelina Apodaca, Margaret Zamora, Bernardita Ortiz, Manuelita Mata, Adela Gallegos, Lucia Valdez and Bersabe Silva; a brother: Luis Martinez. Mrs. Martinez was a member of the Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited Sunday afternoon at 4:00 in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with visitation after 3:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 9:00 at San Martin Catholic Church, 8301 Camino San Martin SW with final visitation at the church after 8:30 by Father James. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Chuck Martinez, Robert Gonzales, Richard L. Sedillo, Johnny Ray Sedillo, Chris Alderete and Patrick Martinez. Ortiz -- Edna Ortiz, 65, Our Most Precious Beloved Mother, has gone to rest June 27, 2001. She was born July 13, 1935 in Santa Fe, NM., where she lived most of her life. Edna was preceded in death by her mother, Tomasita Padilla; adopted mother, Amanda Cordova; husband, Pedro Ortiz Sr.; sons, Paul Ortiz, Leroy Ortiz, and Johnny Isaac Ortiz. She is survived by her children, Catherine Villavicencio and husband, Jorge, Diane Archuleta, Pedro Ortiz Jr. and wife, Victoria, Joanne Rodriguez and husband, Jose, Raymond Ortiz and wife, Darlene, Andrew Ortiz and wife, Henrietta, Esperanza Ortiz and wife, Liza, Santana Chavez and husband, Michael, Rick Ortiz and wife, Angie, and Anita Ortiz; 29 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernie Cordova and wife, Lola, Thomas Padilla and wife, Virginia, Johnnie Padilla and wife, Gerry, Valentine Padilla, Armando Gonzales and wife, Cecilia, Joe Jr. Cordova, Modesto Cordova, Raymond Cordova and wife, Rosenda; sisters, Rose Marquez, Josie Cordova, Gloria Cordova, Betty Arguello, numerous other family and friends who loved and will miss her. Wood -- Elizabeth Rose Wood, 88, a resident of the SW Valley of Albuquerque since 1947, passed away June 26, 2001. She is survived by three daughters, Jean DeWalt and husband, Sam of Albuquerque, NM, Elizabeth McDonald and husband, Lake of Titusville, FL, and Theresa Hofheins and husband, Richard of Albuquerque, NM; one son, Tom Higgins and wife Jeanenne of Albuquerque, NM; 19 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday June 29, 2001, with a rosary to follow in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave SE. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 30, 2001, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW. Interment will follow at Sandia Memory Garden. Jimenez -- Arturo "Tudy" Jimenez, 71, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, June 22, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Annie Jimenez de Chavez of Albuquerque; sons, Marty Jimenez and wife, Kathy of Sterling, VA, Steve Jimenez and wife, Linda, of Albuquerque and Gabriel Jimenez of Albuquerque; daughters, Ronnie Mora and husband, David of Enfield, CT, Sandi Greene of Enfield, CT and Felicia Jimenez of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Monica, Marlo, Erika, Gabe and Nicklas; great grandchildren, Samantha, Tyler, Desi, Willy and Kyle; sister, Esther Collado and husband, Angel of Albquerque, NM; and 2 loving companions, Don King and Kitty Kitty. Art served in the Korean War and then went to work for Sandia Labs, retiring after 44 years. He was"Mr. Fix-It" for all that knew him. He was also an evening manager for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge for 12 years. Services will be held at French Mortuary - Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., Deacon Bob Lewis, officiating.
