MITCHEM -- Lt.Col. James Albert Mitchem U.S. Army (RET), 79, a long time resident of Albuquerque, was born March 17, 1931 in New Albany, Indiana, and departed this life on Friday, January 14, 2011 following a short illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Veronica; seven children, Roxy Mitchem-Horn and husband Michael, James Mitchem, Jr. and wife Jacqueline, Sylvia Crowder and husband Larry, Michael Mitchem, Steven Mitchem, Gail Overton, and Phillip Mitchem and wife Lisa; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Wilma, Mae, and Charlotte; and two brothers, Robert and Leon. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and four brothers. Lt. Col. Mitchem served 20 years in the United States Army. He traveled the world with his family, and served two tours in Korea and one tour in Vietnam. His military citations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, and several other awards and decorations. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. "Farewell Papa, we love you." Friends may visit French ~ Lomas Chapel on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE on Thursday, January 20, 2011. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., with full military honors. DOUGLAS-OVERTON -- JOSEPHINE DOUGLAS-OVERTON nurturing mother, loving wife, devoted friend, and altruistic nurse passed away on September 26, 2010 after a three-year battle with cancer. She is survived by mother Ruth Douglas; husband-George Overton; daughters, Yvonne and Adrienne (Khalid); sons, Evan and Justin; grandchildren, Dajia and Myon; brothers, Lawrence (Doris), Roger (Margaret), Henry (Debbie), Maurice and Sean (Peggy) Douglas; sisters, Sherri (Tom) Hudson, Roy Kathryn Watts and Lanita Douglas; and her beloved dogs, Chico and Sherlock. Now she rests in the arms of her heavenly parents, Lawrence and Lillian Maude Douglas. DOUGLASS -- Peggy Anne Douglass, age 78, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico for most of her life, passed away on Wednesday September 8th, 2010. She was preceded in death by her first husband George Curtis Roady and her second husband Claude H. Isenhart. She is survived by her children, Sharon Anne, Stephen Curtis and Kim Michelle Isenhart and also her much loved step-daughter Claudia Joan Lucero. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Joby Smurzynski, Rebyka Wright, Michelle Baker, Kelli Summerbell and Matthew Lucero; and her great grandson, Dakota Overton-Wright. Peggy was a devout reader of the Urantia book, a member of the Hemlock society and Presbyterian Hospice. Peggy worked for NCR Corporation for twenty-four years and Mo Siegel in Boulder, Colorado for six years. At her request Peggy has been cremated and requested that there be no services. Donations of any kind can be made to a charity of choice.

OVERTON -- Clara Overton, 89, passed away on January 5, 2010. She was born November 17, 1920 in Amarillo, Texas to James and Effie Dodson. Clara married Charles G. Overton October 4, 1941. They had three children. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She graduated from Masonic Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse on October 14, 1942. Clara loved helping people. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Charles G. Overton Jr. in March of 1998. Clara is survived by sons, George and his wife Rita Marie Overton, of Albuquerque, Kenneth and his wife Faye Overton, of Los Banos, CA; daughter, Shirley Thomas , of Denver, CO; grandchildren, John and his wife Melody Overton, Sharon and her husband Antoine Barber, Kim Overton, Ann and her husband Wes Cooley, Lareen and her husband Ed Rudnick, Tammy Thomas, Shanie Thomas, K'Leen Thomas, David and his wife Crystal Fujihara, Phillip and his wife Jessica Fujihara, Joseph Fujihara; great grandchildren, Casey Overton, Kristen Overton, Trevan Cooley, Cobin Cooley, Tanaya Cooley, Savanna Rudnick, Pierce Rudnick, Veronica Fujihara, Arianna Fujihara. MATTHEWS -- Kent R. Matthews was born May 25, 1952 in Fairbanks, Alaska. He passed away suddenly Saturday, November 21, 2009 at his residence. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Matthews; his two sons, Cory Matthews and wife, Cindy and Justin Matthews; four grandchildren, Ian, Lyric, Alex and Liberty and long time friends Bob Overton and Jacki DeRoss of Gunnison, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Matthews. Kent served in the the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war, then returned to New Mexico where he resided in Corrales. He valued the many friends he made throughout New Mexico over the past 30 years while working as branch manager for Divele Scale Co. Kent loved the outdoors and went whitewater rafting and hunting recently. He was greatly loved and will be missed and remembered always. Kent was a gentle soul and loving dad and grandpa who always worried and took care of everyone. Private services will be held Friday, December 4, 2009 at the National Memorial Cemetery in Santa Fe

He is survived by his wife of 48 hears, Nome Greiner; sons, Larry Songster and wife, of Arizona, Gary Songster and wife, Deb of North Platte, NE; daughter, Gayle Greiner of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Justin and wife, BJ Songster or North Platte, NE, Judd and wife, Natalie Songster of Thorton, CO, Drea Overton and husband, Van, Jason Sisk, Jeff Sisk, Leighanne Millligan, all of Albuquerque, Nason Milligan of Arizona; great-grandchilddren, Ashlyn, Taylor, Broc and Cole Songster, all of North Platte, Kailin Overton and Alyssa Sisk, Allison Milligan, all of Albuqueque; nephews, Stanley, Mark, Steven and Michael Greiner of Texas; dear and close friends, Ted and Arlene Bozanich of South Dakota. He was born in Chapell, NE and moved to North Platte where he graduated from North Platte High School. After graduation he served in the United States Navy. He had a career with the FAA for 32 years before retiring. His family and friends were the most important part of his life. His lifelong passion was flying his antique aircraft. He was our hero, and we will miss him and his sense of humor. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services were Friday, August 1, 2008 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Nebraska.
