BARNARD -- Charles D. Barnard, 82, passed away on January 15, 2011. A veteran of the United States Army, Charles served our Country in the Korean War from 1950-1952; he was in the Army reserves from 1952-1956 and held the rank of Sgt, MPC-USAR. Charles dedicated his life as a teacher for the Albuquerque Public Schools from 1956-1990, teaching history and coaching basketball. He was the first coach at Manzano High School, later becoming a principle at Madison, Hayes, Van Buren, Wilson and Grants middle schools then becoming the south area Superintendent for middle schools. Charles is survived by his wife Donna; son Matthew; Daughters Christine, Catherine and Margie (Bernie); grandchildren, Shawn (Olivia), Tra, Shay (Becca), Crystal, Ryan (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Skyler, Dakota. He was preceded in death by his son, Chris; great-granddaughter Alexandra; his parents; sister and brother. A memorial service will be Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at the Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel, and interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens with Military Honors. BEARDEN -- Jesse Burns Bearden, 94, of Albuquerque, beloved husband and father, died Jan. 17, 2011. Jesse is survived by his wife Evelyn Hank Bearden; daughters, Katherin Bomer of Austin, TX, Patricia Woods of Albuquerque, Elaine Froebel of HI, Patti Carlson and Carol Wilson of Austin, TX; his sister Marie Borden of Oklahoma City, OK; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Jesse was born to Berryman and Pearl Bearden in Warner, OK, on Nov. 29, 1916. His college education was interrupted by World War II. He serves as a Sergeant Major in the United States Army for 20 years. After his military service he worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers in California, Texas and Albuquerque. Jesse was active in his church, loved gardening and his pets. A memorial service is schedule for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 6901 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. CHAVEZ -- Frances B. Chavez, age 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, was called to her heavenly home by the Lord, Saturday, January 15, 2011. She was born in Pasamonte, NM to Santiago Romero and Raquel Duran Romero and lived in Maxwell, NM for most of her life; and was a resident of Santa Fe for the past two years. She was preceded in death by nine siblings, their spouses; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws. Frances graduated from Maxwell High School in 1938. She worked as a U.S. postal clerk in Maxwell for many years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul parish and served for many years on the Altar Society. She was involved in the Maxwell Senior Center for many years and was an avid quilter. She cherished her friendships and activities through the center. Frances was the loving matriarch of a devoted family and will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Frances is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Jose "Rod" Chavez; her children, Rafaelita Chavez and husband Sidney Webb, Luisa Chavez, and Elizabeth Sedillo and husband Raymond; her grandchildren, Tom Webb and wife Amy, Dan Webb, Aida Miller and husband Mark, Andy Pacheco, Chrystal Pacheco, Antonio Vigil and wife Olga Giller, Gilbert Vigil and wife Jackie, Gabriel Vigil and wife Amy Ferns Vigil, and Monica Sedillo; two great grandchildren Carlos and Mateo Miller; her sister, Rachel Herrera; and many other relatives and friends. A brief viewing will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a rosary at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Maxwell, NM; where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Maxwell Municipal Cemetery. ERKS -- Dwayne J. Erks, 82, a longtime resident of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away on January 16, 2011 with his loving family by his side. Dwayne was born on December 17, 1928 to John and Mathilda (Schmidt) Erks of Akron, IA. He was raised on the family's farm in Iowa where he developed his strong work ethic. He served our country in the US Army from 1951 until 1953. Dwayne then began his career in the newspaper industry by working for the Sioux City (IA) Journal. He then moved to the El Paso (TX) Times. Dwayne will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Dwayne was a kind and patient man with great integrity. In his life, he had passion for traveling the country, researching his rich family history, photography, and creating metal art. FERRIN -- Curtis L. Ferrin, age 86, of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011. He was born in Jackson, WY on October 28, 1924. Curtis served in the USMC in WWII in the Pacific Theatre of Command. He participated in battles in Cape Glouster, Peleliu, and Okinawa. After the war he worked as a carpenter with his father. He met and married Melva Steele in 1947. He is survived by Melva, his wife of 64 years; sons, Dan Ferrin and wife Marcia, Steve Ferrin, Edward Ferrin and wife Sharlene, Mike Ferrin, JD Ferrin and wife Eliza; daughter Nora Parrish and husband Kenneth; 24 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three on the way; brother Cleyo Ferrin and wife Rosie; sister, Phyllis Cook. Curtis was preceded in death by son, David Ferrin; and one granddaughter, Katie Ferrin; one brother, James Ferrin, and his parents. JANSSON -- Don L. "Sarge" Jansson, 80, a resident of Albuquerque for 61 years passed away Thursday January 13, 2011. Sarge was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joanne; son Steven "Nick"; granddaughter Michelle; and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by sons, Don L. Jansson of Edgewood, Robert J. Jansson and Ken W. Jansson of Albuquerque; daughter Sheryl J. and husband Randy Cross of Virginia; brother Conrad Jansson of Kansas; sisters, Barbara Scott of Oklahoma and Luan and husband Warren Reisch of Texas; seven grandchildren, Chris, Shawn, Jennifer, Joshua, Nick, Cassie and Jaime, and seven great-granchildren. Sarge served in the military for over 22 years and was a decorated war veteran who served in both Korea and Vietnam. In 1971 he opened Sarge Jansson and Sons Plumbing from which he fully retired in 1992 to spend time with his wife. JOHNSON -- Wayne Milton, 61, of Lueders, Texas, passed away at Abilene Regional Medical Center on January 12, 2011. Born in Albuquerque on December 17, 1949 to Milton and Esther (Litts) Johnson (surviving), he spent most of his life in Albuq., graduating from Sandia High School in 1967. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Luci (Trujillo). Together they raised two sons, Travis and Erik (of Lueders,TX),who survive him; as does a granddaughter, Dilana; and a niece they raised, Julie; Also surviving are a sister, Janice Eells; and a brother, Rodger. Wayne loved hunting and catch-and-release fishing and was a master gunsmith who operated the Stamford Mercantile Gunshop. He was known to many in the local construction industry as an outstanding drywaller and was a superior handyman, talents he put to use in building his and Luci's dream house with his own hands. Wayne was a true friend to many. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Memorial services are pending.

MCANANY -- Mary "Rita" McAnany, age 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, was called home to Jesus on January 15, 2011. Rita is survived by her five daughters, Mary Randolph and husband Jeff of Omaha, NE, Maggie McKillip and her husband Jim of Albuquerque, Helen McAnany of Las Vegas, NV and friend Yvonne Randall, Maureen Duran and her husband Jerry of Omaha, NE, Berni Sivage and her husband Kevin of Albuquerque; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Bunnie Kizer and her husband Bill, Kitty Lomatch, Ed Reinhardt and his wife Pat, and Jim Reinhardt; many nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, "Red"; and her brother, John Reinhardt. Rita joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944 and served in Santa Barbara, CA. Rita learned the carpentry trade that she used throughout her life, making wooden toys and furniture for children, which she donated to various children's hospitals and charitable youth organizations. The rosary will be prayed on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 7:00, at French-Westside Chapel, with Deacon Steve Rangel officiating. MCKEAN -- Terri R. McKean age of 71 a resident of Albuquerque for 27 years passed away on January 10, 2011, after battling cancer. Her extend family in Albuquerque are Erma Saavedra, Melissa Candelaria and daughter Nevaeh, Jeromy Saavedra and wife Denise and their son Jadon. Terri is survived by her daughter Cynthia Piggott; grandson Thadeus Fenske wife Tammy; and great-grandchildren Autumn, Kaydin, Zachary, and Jessica which reside in Wisconsin. MITCHEM -- Lt.Col. James Albert Mitchem U.S. Army (RET), 79, a long time resident of Albuquerque, was born March 17, 1931 in New Albany, Indiana, and departed this life on Friday, January 14, 2011 following a short illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Veronica; seven children, Roxy Mitchem-Horn and husband Michael, James Mitchem, Jr. and wife Jacqueline, Sylvia Crowder and husband Larry, Michael Mitchem, Steven Mitchem, Gail Overton, and Phillip Mitchem and wife Lisa; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Wilma, Mae, and Charlotte; and two brothers, Robert and Leon. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and four brothers. Lt. Col. Mitchem served 20 years in the United States Army. He traveled the world with his family, and served two tours in Korea and one tour in Vietnam. His military citations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, and several other awards and decorations. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. "Farewell Papa, we love you." PINTO -- Mary Loretta Sinwell Pinto, 51, died January 15, 2011 in Albuquerque, NM. She is survived by her husband Jerry; her daughters, Nicole Hart and Jessica Pinto; her parents, Raymond and Carolyn Sinwell; her sister, Carol Martin and husband Bill; brother, Stephen Sinwell and wife Rhonda; and many other family and friends. ROMERO -- ARTHUR "DINTY" ROMERO, Passed away peacefully on January 15, 2011 surrounded by his family at his home in Santa Fe. He was 92 and was born on June 26, 1918 in Las Vegas, NM to Don Ricardo and Gregorita Romero. Dinty loved his family first and foremost and is survived by his wife of 74 years, Ophelia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Michael; and daughter Patsy; brothers Richard H. Romero and Louis Romero; and his sisters, Mary, Amy, Bell and Margie. Dinty inspired his family and others with his amazing work ethic, generosity, love for his family and commitment to his faith. He was also known for his broad smile and outgoing personality. He retired after 42 years with the United States Postal Service. He also retired in 1980 from the United States Naval Reserve as a Senior Chief Petty Officer for which he served on active duty in WWII. He served for more than four decades as a high school sports official for the New Mexico Activities Association for which he was inducted into the NMAA Officials Hall of Fame in 1989. He officiated games and championship games at various high school football fields and gymnasiums as well as UNM's Johnson Gym and "The PIT." He will be forever memorialized at The PIT as the officials locker room will be named in his honor. Dinty was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox and loyal fan of the University of Norte Dame and the University of New Mexico. Dinty and Ophelia raised their six children and also cared for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie of Santa Fe, Thelma Hoessler and husband Ed of Santa Fe; sons, Richard and wife Joanne of Rio Rancho, Nestor and wife Angela of Albuquerque; his granddaughter who was truly a daughter to him, Roberta Ortiz, and her husband, Andy, of Farmington; He is also survived by granddaughters, Monica Leyba (Jerry) of California, Lisa Kerwin (Garrett) of Albuquerque, Amanda Ortiz of Farmington, Loretta Cohen (Henry) of Austin, TX, grandsons, RJ and Eric of Rio Rancho, Quinn and Liam of Albuquerque, Mickey(Sylvia) and Greg of Colorado; and great-grandchildren, Noah, Avery, Riley, River, Alex, and his sister Corrine Armijo of Las Vegas NM, brothers Leo(Dora) of California, Bobby of Chicago and Francis (Martha) of Chicago; He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. TSIOSDIA -- Martin, a resident of the Village of Paguate, Pueblo of Laguna, passed away January 15, 2011 after a brief illness. He was born on July 12, 1913 and was 97 years old. He is survived by daughter Irma; and son Warren both of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie; sons, Roy and Robert; and daughter Martha. Martin worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a teacher at the Fort Wingate High School and retired in 1968. He served in the United States Marine Corps in 1945 during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening. Graveside funeral service and burial will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the Village of Paguate cemetary on the Pueblo of Laguna Indian Reservation.
