BRYANT -- Beryl C. (Rodriguez) Bryant, 95, passed away July 28, 2008, in Albuquerque. She was born Beryl Enla Carnes in Gulfport, MS, on November 28, 1912, the eldest of the nine children of Elton E. and Annie Grantham Carnes. She is survived by her children, Howard C. Bryant and Mona of Albuquerque, Austin E. Bryant and Mary Ann of Sutter Creek, CA, Jeffrey B. Bryant and Betsy of Saratoga, CA, and Stephen J. Rider of Pioneer, CA, sisters, India and her husband Robert Pyatt of Morro Bay, CA, Alexis and her husband Robert Danielson of Templeton, CA, and brother Charles Carnes and wife Betty of Rimrock, AZ. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Leslie H. Bryant, Jack Rider, and Felix Rodriguez. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. CHAVEZ -- Myriam Louise Chavez, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1983 died July 27, 2008. She is survived by her son, David of San Diego; daughter, Elisa of Brooklyn; five grandchildren and countlessfriends. Born and raised in Arkansas, she lived for a while in Oklahoma and Colorado, plus many years in Venezuela, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia. After the loss of her husband, Joseph Ralph, Myriam chose Albuquerque as the base from which to embark upon her second life. Myriam had two true passions, art history and Kundalini yoga. She traveled extensively throughout Europe in pursuit of the first, and spent years in New Mexico perfecting the second. A yoga teacher for the last six years of her life, Myriam was a true inspiration to all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held 12 noon on Friday August 1, 2008 at the Albuquerque Center for Spiritual Living, 2801 Louisiana Blvd. NE. DAY -- Phyllis S. Day, of Albuquerque, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 26, 2008. She is survived by her seven children, Cheryl (Terry) Huber, Michael (Sue) Day, Loyd (Kathy) Day, Phylis Stowe, Sam (Dawn) Day, Neil (Carla) Day and Elaine (Harold) Tibbetts; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Her family would like to thank all of those who have given them support through this difficult time, especially the entire staff of Princeton Place, where she has been a resident since March of 2007. Phyllis will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas L. Day (2006). Cremation has taken place and there will be a 2:00 p.m., Service held on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Peralta, NM. GALLEGOS -- Petrita Gallegos, age 96, beloved mother and grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 29, 2008. She was born in Madrid, NM, and was a resident of Albuquerque, formerly of Pena Blanca, NM. She was preceded in death by a son, Emiliano Sanchez. Mrs. Gallegos is survived by her loving children, Helen Lucero and husband Rudy, Dolores Garcia and husband Mike, Virginia Gallegos-Martinez, and Joe Gallegos and wife Vicki; daughter-in-law, Sarah Sanchez; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends. Mrs. Gallegos will be greatly missed by all. GILES -- Paul Murray Giles, 89, died at his home in Albuquerque on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 after a year-long illness. Paul was born Thursday, January 2, 1919, in Grove City, PA, to Anna Murray and John Wesley Giles, the youngest of three children. In 1940, Paul graduated with an engineering degree from Grove City College, where he excelled academically and on the tennis team. His engineering career with General Electric at Schenectady, NY, was interrupted by service as a naval officer during World War II. Before shipping out to the Pacific, Paul married his childhood sweetheart, Ruth Hulbert. After the war, Paul resumed his career with GE, then with Hughes Aircraft in Tucson, and finally at Los Alamos National Labs, where he worked from 1957 to 1982. Paul enjoyed working crossword puzzles, played competitive tennis into his late 70's, was an avid bridge player and bicycle rider, an amateur radio operator since age 14, a singer with the Highland Harmonizers, and a member of the Friendly Wesleyan Sunday school class at Central Methodist Church. His sense of humor was intact to the end. Paul was the quintessential Christian gentleman. He was preceded by his wife, Ruth; and daughter, Toni; his parents; his brother, Jack; his sister, Frances Morrow. Paul is survived by his son, Murray, and wife, Patty, of Albuquerque; and grandson, Paul Giles III, of Morenci, AZ. GINAN -- John E. Ginan, 69, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 38 years, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. John was born February 26, 1939 the son of James and Mary Ginan in St. Albans, NY. John was a member of the Rio Rancho Volunteer Fire Department from 1971 - 1985. He was assigned to engine two as a fire fighter, driver, and pump operator. As the population of Rio Rancho grew, it became necessary for the volunteers to be trained in more advanced aspects of fire fighting and heavy rescue. John was assigned to company five and trained on the use of all equipment carried on this unit, Jaws of Life, electrical generators, power lifts, lighting, and other equipment necessary for extrication and rescue of injured or disabled individuals. His years of service to the department and the community will always be cherished by those who knew him and served with him. John was also a bus driver for over 26 years for the City of Albuquerque. John served in the Armed Forces for two years. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; a Charter Member of the Italian American Association, serving as a Board member. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Ginan. He is survived by his wife, Marie Ginan of Rio Rancho; sons, John Edward Ginan and wife Roxanne of Arizona, and Michael Patrick Ginan of Albuquerque; daughter, Audra Ginan-Cook and husband Jerry of Albuquerque; brothers, Thomas Ginan and Robert Ginan both of Florida; one sister, Mary Ginan of Florida; sister-in-law, Lori Leeds; brother-in-law, Vincent C. Bovenzi and wife Dee of Rio Rancho; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. GURULE -- Belta M. Gurule, age 65, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, was called home to be with the Lord, Monday, July 28, 2008. Belta was born in Placitas, NM, and was a long time resident of Bernalillo. She enjoyed spending her days embroidering, working on crossword puzzles, watching her novellas, and playing with her special great-grandson Francisco (her consientido). She was preceded in death by a son, Vincent Maestas. Belta is survived by her loving children, Manuel Gurule and wife Betty Jo, Josephine Ortiz and Nick Salas, Doris Baldonado and husband Gary, Dora Sandoval and fiancee Eugene Sanchez, and Pedro Escalante; 16 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. HAYES -- Carol Ann Hayes, 49, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 28, 2008. Carol was born on August 5, 1958. She worked on an accelerated curriculum and graduated one year early in 1975 from Sandia High School. Carol was a kind soul and well liked by everyone who knew her. She loved animals and had a special place in her heart for her two cats, Flamer and Spike. Carol was a beloved aunt, sister, and daughter. She is survived by her parents, Everett and Amelia Hayes; brothers, Robert Hayes and Jack Hayes; sister, Christine Duncan; and two nieces, Sarah and Jamie Duncan, all of Albuquerque. HOUSE -- Paul Charles House, 87, died at his home in Albuquerque on Saturday, July 26, 2008 after a prolonged illness. Paul was born September 21, 1920 in Kaufman, TX. In 1940, he graduated from Roswell High School in Roswell, NM and continued on to college at West Texas State on a basketball scholarship where his team won the NIT at Madison Square Gardens in NYC. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1942, which began a 25 year career, and retired in 1968 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He graduated from Basic Training at Paris Island in 1943 and from Reserve Officers Training at Quantico, VA in 1944. He served overseas as an Amphibious Officer with the 2nd Marine Division during WWII. In 1944 he, married Elaine Bennett of Minneapolis and after his tour in Japan, they moved to Albuquerque in 1946. He was called back into active duty in 1951 during the Korean War. He served as an instructor in Officers Candidate School at Quantico, VA. From 1962 through 1964, he served as Commanding Officer of the 5th Force Reconnaissance Company in Albuquerque. Resuming college in 1946 at the University of New Mexico, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1948. At UNM he became a Life Loyal Member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Beta Xi Chapter. He was recruited by Sandia National Laboratory in 1948 as a Technical Illustrator, and he retired in 1982. He then had the opportunity to paint full time. He was best known for his aspen oil paintings, lost wax bronze wildlife sculptures, and was the cover artist for NM Wildlife magazine for many issues. He served as president for the American Cerebral Palsy Association of Albuquerque, the Del Norte High School Booster Club, and the Thunderbird Little League. He was a long time member of the NM Senior Golf Association, and served as their State President. He has been a member of the Central United Methodist Church since 1955. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, shooter, a firearm expert, and a marvelous dancer. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elaine H. House; his daughter, Beverly Jean House Wilson; his son, Bradley Bennett House; his grandsons, Cameron Michael House, and Austin Paul House; his sister, Jean H. Ramshaw of San Diego; and his sister-in-law, Beverly Lancaster of El Paso; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.J. House, Sr. and Ellie; his brothers, E.J. House, Jr., Jack House, Woodrow "Woody" House. Services will be held Friday, August 1, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd. NE. Interment of cremated remains will immediately follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. LUCERO -- Christina Lucero, 82, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 29, 2008. She was born to Alfredo and Juanita Sandoval and was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM. Christina graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1945. She worked for the state of New Mexico for 30 years. When she retired, she continued to keep active playing the organ at various churches for masses, weddings, and funerals throughout the city. She also loved attending baseball, football games and other activities for all of her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During her last days she was surrounded by her husband, Adolph, daughter, Cecilia and husband Alex; son, David Martinez and wife Michelle; her five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren who all loved her very much, and will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her sister, Rebecca Salazar; brother, Ted Sandoval and wife Esther; many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Theresa Montoya. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Beth Evans, her nurse practitioner, and the entire staff at renal medicine, the hospice nurses, and all the other family members for all of their loving care, concern and time. MCCOY -- DONALD JACK MCCOY, SR. Senior Master Sergeant Donald Jack McCoy, Sr., USAF (Ret.), 80, of 1522 San Carlos SW, Albuquerque, NM, died on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center, Asheville, NC. A native of Amarillo, TX, Sgt. McCoy was a son of the late J.B McCoy and Margaret B. Wilson Wood. Sgt. McCoy was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in WWII in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, in the Korean War in 1951, and in combat support for the Vietnam War in Okinawa. He was also a member of First Central Methodist Church. Sgt. McCoy is survived by his wife, Lois Brickhouse McCoy; daughter, Maryanne Mace, of Marshall; son, Donald McCoy, Jr., and wife Kristen, of Nederland, CO; and grandchildren, Brooke Huesing, Sheila Allen, and James and Shannon McCoy. PHILLIPS -- Casey Phillips, age 51, of Albuquerque and formerly of Kansas City and Amarillo, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, and went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 30, 2008. Casey was born and raised in the Kansas City, MO area. He earned a BS and MS in Industrial Technology from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. Upon graduation, he started his career at Bendix Corp. in Kansas City, from 1979-94. He accepted a position with Pantex in Amarillo, TX from 1994-2003. At the time of his death, he was employed by Sandia National Laboratories. He served as a classification analyst in the DOE Weapons Complex for the past 24 years. Casey is survived by Vicki, his wife of 26 years; son, Aaron Phillips and wife Trista; brothers, David Phillips and wife Josie, Danny Phillips and wife Liz, and Darren Upp; aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. ROSENZWEIG -- Connie Rosenzweig (nee Sugar) died July 29, 2008 after a dignified battle with cancer. Connie was born September 19, 1936 in Chicago, IL where she lived for the majority of her life. She married her childhood sweetheart, Mickey, whom she adored and sadly leaves behind. She leaves behind her daughter, Lisa (Rosenzweig) Alpert and son-in-law Lance; son, Scott Rosenzweig and daughter-in-law Liz; and her son, Todd Rosenzweig (deceased) and daughter-in-law Debby. Also mourning her loss are her sister, Joan Plotkin, and her children. She will be deeply missed by her beloved grandchildren Nicole, Benjamin, David and Daniel, and of course her grand-dogs Jackpot, Buddy, and Cosmo. They all brought sunshine into her life. She leaves behind friends all over the country; especially her dear friends in Albuquerque, NM, Chicago, IL, and West Hartford, CT. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her warmth and smile befriended all who met her. She was truly a Woman of Valor. SIGMUND -- SUE B. SIGMUND October 13, 1937 - July 21, 2008 Sue Sigmund, 70, of Waco, TX passed away Monday, July 21, 2008 surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be held at the Woodway First United Methodist Church on Saturday July 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., with pastors Jeff Smith and Bill Austin officiating. Services will also be conducted in Albuquerque, NM on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at the French Mortuary located at 7121 Wyoming Boulevard with Pastor Russell Lee officiating. Sue was born in Winnsboro TX, to Ben and Cleo Blackmon. She resided in Albuquerque, NM until 2006 when she and her husband Robert moved to Waco. Mrs. Sigmund taught in the Albuquerque Public School system for 30 years, and was a very active member of Woodway First United Methodist Church and a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Albuquerque. She is preceded in death by her parents; and is survived by her sister, Ann Gaskamp and husband Paul of Brenham; her husband, Robert of Waco; and their children, Laurie Sigmund and husband Ruben of Austin, Linda Lyle and husband Thom of Albuquerque, Lorna Barnhart and husband Doug of Katy, Marc Giles of Hewitt and Carole Giles and partner Michael Jenkins of Tyler. Her grandchildren Leslie Dunlap of Albuquerque, Kristofer Dunlap of Fairbanks, AK, Shelby Barnhart of Katy, and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Sue was loved by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed. SMITH -- Billy Franklin Smith, 31, left us July 23, 2008. He is survived by his daughter, Bailey, 3, whom he loved deeply. He leaves his mother, Cathy and step-father, David Grife y Vigil; father, Gary Lee and step-mother, Tina Smith; grandparents, Bill and Yvonne Smith, Myrtle Sparks, Betty Thurber; brothers, B. Jay Smith, David Grife, Mark Grife and families; ex-wife, Amber Smith; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who are left to mourn his passing. He graduated from Eldorado High School, 1995, was a professional electrician, and owned B.A.B. Electric. STEED -- Terry Steed, 59, born and raised in Graham, TX, and a resident of New Mexico for over 20 years, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Steed of Graham, TX; sister, Sandra Stone and husband Carl of Burleson, TX; daughter, Rachel Joyner and husband Kyle of Austin, TX; son, Scotty Steed of Sweeny, TX; grandchildren, Courtney Steed and Ryan Steed of Sweeny, TX; and girlfriend and caregiver, Jacqueline Martinez of Albuquerque. TUTTLE -- James R. Tuttle, Sr., 74, a resident of Corrales, NM, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2008. James was born January 6, 1934 the son of Preston Bryan and Mary Louise Fambrough Tuttle in Albuquerque, NM. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves and a veteran of the United States Army. James retired from Mountain Bell and US West in the early 1990's. He was the owner of Mass Perfection, a commercial cleaning service. He loved painting and art, and taking his time and smelling the roses. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. James was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Joyce Plave; and one brother-in-law, Fred Sinnott. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rebecca Strawn-Tuttle of Corrales; children, Jennifer A. Noland and husband Scot, and James "Jim" Tuttle Jr. and wife Melissa; grandchildren, GlenAsia, Samantha, and Cruz Tuttle; one sister, Mary Lou Sinnott; and one brother-in-law, Herman Plave.
