ROMERO -- Janet E. Romero passed away on July 11, 2006. She was born on July 16, 1933, in Red Bank, NJ. She was preceded in death by her son, John Larry Salas. Janet is survived by her husband, Antonio Romero; and children, George and Helen Salas, Deborah Salas, Betty and Jose Otero, Jerry and Liz Salas, Michael and Tina Salas, Karen Garcia and Jose Flores, Richard and Rosa Salas; step-daughter, Mary Sisneros; and family friend, Dolores Hernandez; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren. Janet served as a board member of YDI, and the Family Health Clinic, also a member of LULAC. Services will be held at Church Of The Ascension, 2150 Raymac Rd. SW. Rosary: 7:00 p.m. July 21, 2006. Mass: 10:00 a.m. July 22, 2006. Funeral following at Los Padillas Cemetery; reception to follow at church hall.

WINTERS -- Stephen (Steve) Alexander Winters, 65, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006. Steve was born July 8, 1940 at Loco Hills, NM, the second child of Lee and Mary Winters. His family moved to Artesia when he was one and then to Albuquerque when he was seven, where he lived for most of the next fifty-five years. After retiring from Sandia Labs in 1997, Steve bought a second home in T or C, NM and eventually moved there in 2002 to spend more time on his life long love; fiddling. Steve is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Pearl Winters; his four children and their spouses, Leon and Doni Flores, Stephen and Angela Winters, Bonnie Winters, David and Mary Gower; and his six grandchildren, Jamie Foreman, Caesar Flores, Zayne Foreman, Christian Winters, Kayla Winters, and Alexis Winters. He is also survived by two sisters, Gay Garrison and Lenora Hagen; and one brother and sister-in-law, Howell and Vivian Winters. Steve was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He taught us each about honesty, integrity and, most of all, love. We will celebrate his life in a Memorial Service at Monterey Baptist Church in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Mexico Old Time Fiddler's Hall of Fame. GARCIA -- Lorenzo Garcia, age 68, passed away June 6, 2006 at his residence in Encino, NM following a short illness. Lorenzo was born August 10, 1937 in Encino to the home of Juan and Dolores Garcia. A lifelong resident of Encino, he married Magdalena Apodaca on December 26, 1959. Lorenzo worked for the New Mexico State Highway Department and for the Railroad up until his retirement in 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur Garcia; sister, Jane Salas; nephews, Danny Archibeque and Jerry Montoya who was also his Godson. Survivors include his wife, Magdalena of the Family home in Encino; his children, Loretta Chavez and husband, Edwin of Encino, Ernie Garcia and wife, Henrietta of Encino, Corrine Sanchez and husband, Jeff of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Heather Sanchez and husband, Kevin, Kevin Garcia, Matilda Griego and husband, Johnny, Jonathan Chavez and wife, Patricia, Christina Chavez, Ashley Garcia, Alysha Garcia, Aryka Garcia, James Sanchez, and Jerome Sanchez; great-grandchildren: Mariah, Angel, and David Sanchez, Martine and Irene Griego. Also surviving are his brothers, Andy Garcia and wife, Mary of Roswell, Rudy Garcia and wife, Virgie of Portales; sisters, Josie Garcia and husband, Joe of Portales, Sadie Tapia and husband, Moises of Portales, Aurora Flores and husband, Joe of Portales, Priscilla Archibeque of Portales, Dorothy Montoya and husband, Raymond of Portales, Mabel Urioste and husband, Leroy of Ponca City, OK; brothers-in-law, Willie Apodaca, Sr. and wife, Christina and Adolfo Salas; sisters-in-law, Ruthie Apodaca, Dinah Garcia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary Services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Encino. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 8, at 10:00 a.m. also from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Father William Young officiating. Burial will follow at the Encino Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Demecio Apodaca, Johnny Sanchez, Tony Garcia, Chris Garcia, Margarito Chavez, Gerald Tenorio, Marcy Cordova, Joe Madril, and Chuck Brewer. Darlene will be deeply missed by all. MAREZ -- Jimmy N. Marez went to the hands of the lord January 16, 2006, at the age of 58. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Mr. Marez was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Sadie Marez, and nephew; Christopher Apodaca. He is survived by his wife, Yolanda R Marez; godchild, Brittany Madrid of Carlsbad; brother, Elias Marez and wife, Dorothy; sister, Mary Helen Apodaca and husband, Vince of Albuquerque; and many nieces and nephews. BACA -- Josie P. Mrs. Josie P. Baca, 93, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on November 23, 2005 peacefully at home with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Baca is survived by her loving daughters, Dolores Padilla, Priscilla Baca and Anna Baca; five grandchildren, Ricardo Padilla (Radio Personality), Rafael Baca (Esquire), Arthur Baca M.D., Yolanda Hall and Lupe Dragich; four great grandchildren, Don, Ellie, Nicole and Joe; two great great grandchildren, Keely and Evina; daughter in law, Nicky Baca; many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Mrs. Baca was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Baca, a son, Major Jose R. Baca, a daughter, Viola Baca, three sisters, Theresa, Lucy and Rose, a son in law, Celso Padilla and a grandson, Michael Padilla. Mrs. Baca was a member of the Catholic Church. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and lived there until she married Albert in 1937. She was a special mother, Believing in God, Faith and Family. She was a wonderful cook and will leave a large void in the lives she touched. A visitation will be Sunday afternoon in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 2:00 p.m. by Esther Barela and the Legion of Mary. Final visitation will be Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Father Joel Garner and Father Roberto Fenzl con-celebrants of the Mass.
