Obituary for WINTERS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday June 23, 2006

Stephen (Steve) Alexander Winters, 65, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006. Steve was born July 8, 1940 at Loco Hills, NM, the second child of Lee and Mary Winters. His family moved to Artesia when he was one and then to Albuquerque when he was seven, where he lived for most of the next fifty-five years. After retiring from Sandia Labs in 1997, Steve bought a second home in T or C, NM and eventually moved there in 2002 to spend more time on his life long love; fiddling. Steve is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Pearl Winters; his four children and their spouses, Leon and Doni Flores, Stephen and Angela Winters, Bonnie Winters, David and Mary Gower; and his six grandchildren, Jamie Foreman, Caesar Flores, Zayne Foreman, Christian Winters, Kayla Winters, and Alexis Winters. He is also survived by two sisters, Gay Garrison and Lenora Hagen; and one brother and sister-in-law, Howell and Vivian Winters. Steve was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He taught us each about honesty, integrity and, most of all, love. We will celebrate his life in a Memorial Service at Monterey Baptist Church in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Mexico Old Time Fiddler's Hall of Fame.
