Alexander -- Madge A. Alexander, 96, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died Saturday, January 29, 2000, following a slow decline in health which accelerated rapidly in her final days. Born in Detroit, Alabama, March 21, 1903, to James Wilbur Peoples and Winnie Eudocia Peoples, she is survived by her grandson, Tony J. Oliva; and her granddaughter, Stella E. Oliva. Her only child was her daughter, Palma Euvonne Oliva, who died September 13, 1999. She was the last to go of her siblings, who included Eugene Peoples, Leon Peoples, and Stella Mace, her younger sister, who preceded her in death on July 4, 1998. She was a member of the Mountainside Church of Christ for many years. In 1953, she left her job at the Pomona Tile Company and came to live with her just separated daughter, where she became her two grandchildren's second mother. It is a fact that we had two mothers growing up. She was called"Mother" by her daughter and by us, while we called our mother"Mom." She was a"doer" and, when she could no longer do for her family and, when her only daughter passed away, she lost the will to continue. She was loved very much by friends and family, and will be sorely missed. Services will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary - University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Lemuel M. Boyles officiating. Private interment will follow. Donations may be made to Quality Continuum Hospice, 2625 Pennsylvania NE, #225, 87110, or to the good work of your choice. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
