Shuford -- Patty Newell Shuford, 69, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, August 25, 2002 after a short battle with cancer, at home with her loved ones by her side. A native of El Paso, Texas, she is survived by her husband, David Marcus Shuford, Sr.. David shared his life and love with her for nearly 50 years. They were married on April Fools Day 1953 after only knowing each other for six months. She is also survived by her mother, Patty Dell Newell; her son, David Marcus Shuford, Jr., his wife Karen, and their three daughters, Stephanie Campbell and her husband Tim, Amy Shuford and Kelli Shuford; her daughter, Claire Newell Shuford; and her daughter, Leslie Diane Gartner and her husband, Ed, and their daughter, Jessica Gartner. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Lewis Newell. Patty was the keeper of the family home and loved it when it was filled with her family. Her precious grandchildren were the light of her life. She drew joy and strength from music of all kinds, her favorites were classical, opera, and mariachi music. Services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2002, at 3:00 p.m., at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Mrak -- Edmund V. Mrak, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, died Monday, August 26, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eileen L. Mrak of Albuquerque; son, Edmund J. Mrak and wife, Linda of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Lori Lewis and husband, Rodney of Denton, TX and their son, Grady Lewis and Jennifer Tomasi and her son, Kyle of Albuquerque. Mr. Mrak served in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He retired in 1982 after 30 years of services at Ideal Cement Co. Graveside services will be held Friday, August 30, 2002, 3:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Arrangements by French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.

Criswell -- Oleta Criswell, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1937, died Thursday, August 8, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edward Criswell; sons, Raymond Criswell of Las Cruces and John W. Criswell of Albuquerque; daughter, Lela Beth Criswell of Damascus, MD; numerous nieces and nephews; and friend and caregiver, Marie Lewis. In 1937 Oleta came to visit her sister and stayed to become a teacher at Washington Junior High School where she meet her husband, Edward. She taught at Los Padillas and Mountain View Schools. Mrs. Criswell was one of the first teachers to teach at Jefferson Middle School and she retired in 1974. She enjoyed needlepoint and gardening. Mrs. Criswell was a charter member of Heights Baptist Church and she also became a member of the First Baptist Church. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Criswell -- Oleta Criswell, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1937, died Thursday, August 8, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edward Criswell; sons, Raymond Criswell of Las Cruces and John W. Criswell of Albuquerque; daughter, Lela Beth Criswell of Damascus, MD; numerous nieces and nephews; and friend and caregiver, Marie Lewis. Lewis -- Vona Lewis, 66, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, died Saturday, August 10, 2002. She is survived by her son, Dave Lewis of Washington State; brothers, Roy Moore of Reserve, NM, and James Odle and wife, Amelda of Tatum, NM; four nieces and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Odle and Virginia Jimerson; sisters, Connie Jo Brady and Virginia (Ginger) Thoma; nephew, Roy (Butch) Moore; and great nephews, Justin Kitchens and Jarred Odle. Vona was born at home in the Gladiola Community east of Tatum, NM. She attended school in Lovington, Monument, and Hobbs, NM. While in school, she played in the high school band and was a member of the Glee Club. Vona was a member of Sandia Baptist Church. During her years of employment, Vona worked 4 years for Harvey Accounting in Roswell, NM for 16 years, Burke Concrete in Phoenix, AZ and 22 years for Baldridge Lumber in Albuquerque. She retired in 1999. Before retiring, Vona had articles on Credit Management published in a National Credit Magazine. She was Employee Of The Year, 1990-1991, and upon retirement, she was given the President's Award. Services will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2002, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Chaplain Mark Sutton officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Lovato -- Mike Lovato, 74, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Friday, August 2, 2002. Beloved father is survived by his son, Paul Lovato of Moreno Valley, CA; daughters, Carolyn Perez and husband, Alex of La Palma, CA and Jeanette Garcia and husband, Jerry of San Juan Capistrano, CA; sons, James Lovato of Bernalillo and Phillip Lovato of Albuquerque; daughter, Elizabeth Latten of Albuquerque; beloved grandfather is survived by 14 grandchildren; beloved great-grandfather is survived by 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Benny Gallegos and husband, Joe of Jerseyville, IL, Emelia Thompson of Rio Rancho, Erlinda Montoya and husband, Herman, Molly Gonzales and Priscilla Aragon, all of Albuquerque; brother, Ignacio Lovato and wife, Gloria of Albuquerque; and former spouse, Mary R. Lovato of Los Alamitos, CA. Mr. Lovato was preceded in death by his son, Michael David Lovato; and grandson, Christopher Paul Lovato. He will be greatly missed. He was a member of San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church and also a member of the Moose Lodge. Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, 2005 Plaza NW, with Deacon Bob Lewis reciting. One of Mike's greatest priorities in life was time. His belief was that it should not be wasted.
