HORNER -- Christopher Robert Horner, September 10, 1992 to November 24, 2004, a son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. Chris died suddenly and tragically from a fall at his home Wednesday, November 24, 2004. Christopher loved fishing, fireworks, camping, and hiking. He was a member of the Cibola Youth Wrestling Club and attended Calvary Chapel when he wasn't out at the ranch in Bueyeros, New Mexico hunting, exploring, and learning the finer points of ranching from the Jeffery family, with friend and mentor, Danny Young. Christopher was a sixth grade student at Taylor Middle School where he had many friends. He is preceded in death by his brother Jared. His passing has left many broken hearts. Christopher is survived by his mother Cathy Horner, grandmother Helen Schirmer, his uncle David Schirmer, aunt Lori Alexander; and cousins Michael, James, and Chelsea Schirmer, and Vanessa & Joshua Johnston, and Melissa and Stephanie Alexander. Chris is also survived by his big brother Heath and daughter Sandyn, his father Hank Horner and wife Byrd; brother and sisters Amy, Tiffany, Jason, Samantha, and Jenifer. His grandfather Jack Horner, uncle Phil, aunt Cindy, Josh and wife Kerrie and their daughter Audry, and Audra and her husband Chris and their sons, Matthew & Benjamin. IRVIN -- Dean Edward Irvin, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2004, with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his wife, Alice and his children, daughter, Deanna and husband, Joe Bowman; son, David and wife, Paula; daughter, Judy and husband, Ray Dewey, and daughter, Tracey; grandsons, David Irvin, Jr., Craig and Brian Bowman, Adam and Justin Dewey; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan, and Alexis Bowman. Also surviving are his sisters, Dona and husband, Delford Boyer, Barbara and Ted Glover; his brother, Lyle Irvin and his wife, Leona; and many nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his father, Edward and mother, Bernice, and brother, Glen Irvin. Dean was born September 30, 1918 in Havelock, NE, where he attended school. After graduation from the University of Nebraska with a degree in business administration, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Reserve and later joined the Second Infantry Division at Fort Sam, Houston, TX. He went overseas with the Division in September of 1943 and saw action in World War II. During his tour with the military, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge; Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Occupation Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with two Hour Glasses; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal; American Defense Service Medal; American Theater Medal; Europe, Asia, Middle East Theater Medal; and the World War II Victory Medal. He also received campaign ribbons for Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe, plus three overseas bars. He remained active in the Army Reserve and retired with the rank of Colonel. He was very active in volunteer work, serving on boards at both Lovelace Medical Center, and the Cancer Research and Treatment Center at the University of New Mexico Hospital. Dean was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed as much time as he could spare fly-fishing on the Conejos River in southern Colorado where he and Alice built a log cabin, which was their getaway place. Dean had, what he liked to call his “four M’s", his love for the military, music, museums and medicine. He and Alice were honored as New Mexico Philanthropists of the Year in 1995. Two awards he was most proud of were the Strength in Reserve Award in recognition of outstanding contribution to the US Army Reserve Program and the first Steve Schiff KAFB Advisory Award. A memorial celebration of Dean’s rich and vibrant life will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. Chaplin Lemuel Boyles officiating. Private burial of cremated remains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. MOREJON -- Carlota Marta "Mamita" Morejon, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Wednesday, November 24, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Sara Sanchez and Marta Boydston and husband, Keith, all of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Jody Steele and husband, John of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandson, Bryan Boydston of Albuquerque; great-granddaughter, Ella Steele; and niece, Lisette Lozano and husband, Frank of Davie, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fabio Morejon, her parents, Calixto Augustin Laurent and Estela Primitiva Rojas and her brother ,Ramon Laurent. Carlota was born in Havana, Cuba, November 4, 1918. She met and married Fabio Morejon on October 7, 1944. Their two daughters were born there. Carlota and Fabio owned and operated a coffee distributing company, Monte Ruz, in Cuba. They sent their daughters to the United States on the Peter Pan Flights operated by Catholic Charities and in December of 1965 followed them to Albuquerque. They operated and owned Morejon Upholstery. Carlota was very active in the Cuban community. Her forte was cooking and sewing. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. THOMPSON -- David Thompson, 75, died on November 26, 2004 in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Glinnie Sue Thompson of Dexter, NM; two daughters, Joyce A. Gottlieb and husband, Art of Rio Rancho and Deborah Sue Thompson of Temple, TX; one son, David W. Thompson and Kay Arver of Dexter, NM; five grandchildren, Amanda Thompson, BJ Gottlieb, Jennifer Thompson, David W. Thompson, Jr. and Misty Gottlieb; two sisters, Betty Sue Huffman and Joyce Megeaski; one sister-in-law, Bernice Rochester and three brother-in-laws, Frank, James and Bill Hill. David served in the US Army during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was highly involved in the Hawk Missile System. After retirement, he continued working on missile systems with RCA, Raytheon and GTE, where he became involved in the Cruise Missile System. He loved life and his family. He was known for his sense of humor by all. He deemed it a great honor to serve his country. Service will take place on Monday, November 29, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles, officiating. WHEELER -- 1961-2004 Eddie Wheeler, age 43, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Saturday November 27, 2004. He was the loving son of Sandy and Harold Wheeler. Eddie loved to shoot pool, and he was always surrounded by many happy kids with smiling faces. He is survived by his son, Richard and his mother, Joy; his loving parents, Sandy and Harold Wheeler; his three loving siblings, his brothers, David and his wife, Connie, and Russell and Kelly La Fountain; his sister, Lisa and Dan Durante; four nieces, Jasmine Vineyard, Lacey and Sidney Wheeler and their mother, Lavette Brooks, and Amanda Brown; two nephews, Jeffrey Brown and Davis Ross; his Uncles Glenn Wheeler and his wife, Stephanie, and Mike Wheeler; his Aunt Gladys Whaley and her husband, Don; and many cousins all from Tennessee, and also many friends. FIGGE -- AliceBlue Figge, 66, a native of Albuquerque and a renowned calligrapher, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2004, following an extended illness. Alice's budding interest in calligraphy began at Highland High School when she created beautiful letters for the high school annual headlines rather than using typed text. Calligraphy soon was to become her lifelong passion and career. She had the pleasure to become friends with and study calligraphy under Ralph Douglass while pursuing her degree at the University of New Mexico. She loved teaching and taught throughout the country. She was selected to attend the Queen's School in London, England. She established a summer program at Ghost Ranch, Literally Letters, where she invited nationally known calligraphers to teach. Her business, Blue Quill Calligraphy, provided her opportunities to complete commissions for individuals, special award certificates, her fraternity Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pope John Paul II. Some of her calligraphy publications include The Prayers I Love compiled by Daniel Redding, I Love Calligraphy which is a step by step teaching of calligraphy, and a History of the Liberty Presbyterian Church. Alice was a member of Escribiente Calligraphy Guild, Las Aranas Weavers Guild, PEO Chapter BH and Kappa Kappa Gamma where she was President her senior year. She is survived by her husband, Robert Figge, of Albuquerque; her daughter, Ann Girand Ulliman and husband, Mark, and grandchildren, Audrey and Aaron, of Moorhead, Minnesota; her son, Dub Girand, of Albuquerque; her mother, Sarah Blue; her sister, Ann Wolf, and husband, Wayne, and nephews, Warren Wolf and David Wolf; brother-in-law, Roger Figge; niece, Debbie Owen, and husband, Todd, and great-nephew, Kyle; nephew, Stephen Figge and wife, Deborrah, and great-niece and nephews, Marlena, Jacob, and Dylan. She was preceded in death by her father, Don Blue. GALLOWAY -- Gene Russell 1925-2004 Gene Russell Galloway, 78, a resident of Belen, passed away on Thursday November 25, 2004. He was retired from the US Air Force having served in both World War II, and the Korean Conflict. His second retirement was from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft after 23 years of service; he and his wife were stationed in various parts of the world during his tenure there. Gene enjoyed gardening, sports, and woodwork; and was a bird lover who enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds. He was also a quiet and secluded man, who enjoyed the home life and his family. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Eddie Jo of the family home in Belen; his daughter, Debra Gene Jackson and her husband, David of Clovis, NM; his sisters, Jane Elizabeth Horn and her husband, Fred, Shirley Van Ettinger and her husband, Tom, and his brother, Vernon Galloway all of Kingsport, Tennessee; his grandsons, James Ryan Lewter, Corey Russell Lewter, and David Conner Jackson; and one great-granddaughter, Jaidyn J'nae Jacquez. Cremation will take place and a memorial service is scheduled for December 27th, 2004 at the Methodist Church in Belen with Pastor Jay Armstrong officiating, the time is still pending.
