Kiegel -- Joseph Herbert Kiegel, 72, poet, potter, painter and philosopher, died Saturday, June 20, 1998 in Anchorage, Alaska. His death was a result of a sudden rupture of an aortic aneurysm. A resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1975, Joe was on vacation in Alaska with his wife of 47 years, Camille (Cam) Ingrassia Kiegel. Joe Kiegel was born June 3, 1926 in Rockford, IL. He served in the Navy during World War II and received a degree in Business Administration from Marquette University in 1950. He was the founder of both Rock Valley Pump & Equipment in Rockford, IL and The Clay Works in Albuquerque, NM. Joe was active in commercial real estate in Albuquerque and retired in 1989. He pursued his love of nature and hiking through memberships in the N.M. Volunteers for the Outdoors and the N.M. Mountain Club. He served as the volunteer coordinator for the building of Hawk Watch Trail in the Sandia Mountains. Joe was a gifted artist, rendering many scenes from the Southwest through watercolor and oil paintings. He enjoyed making pottery, writing poems and he was an avid reader, a student of history and a deep thinker. His intelligence and gentleness of spirit will be remembered by family and friends. He is survived by the enduring love of his life, Camille, and by son Joseph Anthony Kiegel of Seattle, WA; daughter Joan Cross and husband Jeff of Spokane, WA; son John Kiegel and wife Kim of Albuquerque, and grandson Jeremy Joseph Cross. Other survivors include two sisters, Gertrude Kiegel, and Mary Plate and husband, Jim, all of Rockford, IL and sister-in-law, Rita Gehred, of Albuquerque. Nieces and nephews are Albert and Trish Kiegel, Margaret and Rick Nelson, Bill and Nancy Plate, Cathy Plate, Mike and Stacey Gehred, Paul and Patti Gehred, Ann and Rick Schultz, John and Ann Gehred, Clare and Mark Matranga, Jim and Larisa Gehred, Beth and Mark Gehred-O'Connell, Meg and George Matranga, Bob Gehred and 23 grandnephews and grandnieces. A mass and memorial gathering will be held Friday, June 26, 1998 in Albuquerque, NM, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The mass will take place at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place, S.E., presided over by Rev. Robert A. Chabot, pastor. Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the home of John and Kim Kiegel, 3012 La Mancha Drive, N.W. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy, N.M. Chapter, 212 E. Marcy St., Santa Fe, NM 87501 or a charity of your choice.

Curfman -- William Nelson, 95, a resident of Albuquerque for 9 years, passed away Sunday, June 21, 1998. He is survived by his nephew, Ben E. Curfman and wife of Albuquerque; Gale De Snet and family of Bosque Farms; Shirley Sutton and husband of Winter Springs, FL; Cathy Humphrey and family of Jonesboro, AK; Roberta Barber; step-daughter of Victorville, CA; step-son, Glenn Brumback of Westville, OK; an numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maida Lorene in 1977; his parents, Elmer and Jessie Curfman of Clayton, NM; and his five brothers; and one sister. He retired from Lockheed Aircraft Company. he was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers for 50 years. He was a member of Northdale Baptist Church of Albuquerque. Services will take place at Glen Haven Memorial Park, San Fernando, CA on Wednesday, June 24, 1998 at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements were made by French Mortuary, and Pierce Brothers Mortuary, North Hollywood, CA. Aragon -- Isaac Aragon, 92, born June 3, 1905, a resident of Tome, NM, passed away on Monday, June 1, 1998. He was a member of the Tome Catholic Church. Isaac was the owner and operator of the Tome Food Market and Bar for 30 years. Isaac was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW. He was the Mealsite Manager of the Los Lunas Senior Citizens Center for eight years. He also served under Fred Luna and Tibo Chavez in the legislatures as Sargent of Arms for many years. Isaac was a well-known rancher, farmer, and businessman for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances in 1993; his daughter, Nila Chavez in 1984; his brother, Saturnino Aragon in 1997; and one sister, Dolores Aragon in 1989. Isaac is survived by his three sons, Ralph Aragon and his wife, Hope of Albuquerque, Joe S. Aragon and his wife, Josie of Tome, Leroy Isaac Aragon and his wife, Ritha, also of Tome, NM; daughters, Flora Carabajal and her husband, Frank of Peralta, NM, Betty Romero and her husband, Jake of Tome, NM, Priscilla Baca and her husband, Edward of Tome, Annie Sanchez and her husband, Raymond of Belen, NM, and Bernadette Nelson of Tome, NM. Also surviving are 38 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Chris Aragon of Tome, Joe Aragon of Belen, Julian Aragon of El Paso, and Cresencio Aragon of Los Lunas. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome, NM, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Isaac's birthday, at 10:00 a.m., also at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Tome Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Floyd Carabajal, John Aragon, Santos Aragon, Ricky Romero, Bobby Baca, Louis Sanchez, Christian Nelson, Jacklyn Aragon, and B.J. Chavez. Romero Funeral Home in Belen is in charge of arrangements.

Apodaca -- Ernest Apodaca, 86, a well known and lifelong resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico, passed away Sunday, May 17, 1998. Ernest was preceded in death by his father, Melecio Apodaca and mother, Francisca Miera; son, Eugene Gilbert; and grandson, Lawrence Dee Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Pita Apodaca of the family home in Las Vegas; sons, Mariano Phil Apodaca and wife, Mickey of Corrales, NM, and Francisco Apodaca and wife, Lisa of Las Vegas, NM; daughters, Katherine"Kay" Thomas and husband, Alvin of Santa Fe and Kristine"Kooch" Jacobus and husband, Guy of Albuquerque; sister, Nestora Fitzgerald and husband, Stafford of Lakewood, CA; brothers, Joe Apodaca, Lawrence Apodaca, Jack Apodaca, Michael Apodaca, and Arthur Apodaca, all of Los Angeles, CA; special relative and friend, Manuel Flores of Abeline, TX. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Apodaca retired from the New Mexico State Highway Dept. In 1983, after 42 years of service, the last six of which he was District 4 Engineer in Las Vegas, NM. He was a State of New Mexico Registered Professional Engineer. He was a member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #408, where he was a life member and past Exalted Ruler and also served as a Trustee with the state association. Ernest was a regular customer for morning coffee at the Hillcrest Restaurant in Las Vegas, where he met with friends. A memorial Rosary will be recited Thursday, May 21, 1998, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas. A memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father DeFazio on Friday, May 22, 1998 at 10:00 a.m., also at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. A private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ernest Apodaca Memorial Scholarship Fund in c/o the First National Bank in Las Vegas, NM. Darrow -- F. Nelson (Buddy) Darrow, 59, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday morning, May 13th. Buddy is survived by his wife, Sandy; his daughter, Debbie Padilla and spouse, Mike and their children, Tyra, Dustin, Clayton and Monique; and his daughter, Shara Garcia and her spouse, Michael Jr. and their children, Mikey and Katey. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn Darrow and family. Born in Independence, Missouri, he spent his life in Albuquerque. Buddy was an active Christian, involved in his church, St. Stephen's United Methodist, and the Promise Keepers organization. Although Buddy died of cancer, he never gave into cancer. His desire for the last two years of his life was for the Lord to use him in encouraging, strengthening and touching other with Christ's love. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to St. Stephen's Help Fund or the Promise Keepers organization. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16th, at St. Stephen's UMC, 4601 Juan Tabo NE (one block north of Montgomery).

Nelson -- Harriett L. Nelson, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on April 21, 1998. She was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Wayne C. Nelson; two sons, Jerry W. Nelson and wife, Alice of Illinois and Terry S. Nelson and wife, Kara of Twin Falls, ID; one daughter, Vicki L. Nelson and companion, Sue of Brookfield, WI; three grandchildren, Mark, Megan and Frances; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Carol Jordan of Denver, CO.
