Thomas -- Lt. Col. James Edwin (Ed) Thomas, US Army, Retired, 63, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2003. He is survived by his son, Marc Thomas and wife, Michelle; daughter, Leigh Martinez and husband, Thomas; three grandchildren, Kyle, Jared, and Isabella. Ed was born on March 25, 1940 in Boston, MA. A resident of Albuquerque since 1978, he retired recently, and enjoyed spending his time riding his motorcycle, gardening, and enjoying time with friends and family. After graduating with an Engineering Degree from Northeastern University, Ed spent his career in service to his country, first in the Army, and later with contractors working for the Department of Energy. Along the way, he earned his Masters Degree from the University of North Dakota. Ed was much loved, and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Services will be held Friday, August 15, 2003, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Thursday, August 14, 2003, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Cremation will follow services and burial of cremains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Forrest -- Dee D. Forrest, a resident of Albuquerque for 30 years, passed away on August 8, 2003 at the age of 76. Dee was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge and enjoyed flying and fishing. A World War II Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy. Dee managed Monticello R.V. Park for several years prior to moving to Albuquerque. Dee was preceded in death by his wife, Elna Mae; and his daughter, Cheryl Martinez. He is survived by his daughter, Beverly A. Turkowski and husband, David; grandchildren, Randy Godfrey, David Martinez and wife, Susie, and Angela Martinez; great- grandson, Timothy Martinez; and half- brother, James Neher. Simonton -- Elizabeth"Tommie" Simonton, 99, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 7, 2003. She is survived by her son-in-law, Charles Warner of Rio Rancho; granddaughter, Beverly Ponder of Ft. Worth, Texas; two grandsons, James and Bryan Warner both of Rio Rancho; six great- grandchildren, Benjamin, Carolyn, David, Amy, Paul and Tiffany. Tommie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Simonton in 1952; a grandson, William T. Simonton in 1980; her daughter, Annsalee Warner in 1982; and her son, Ernest Jr. in 1986. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Arkansas, Texas and New Mexico. While residing at Acantilado Vista, Tommie organized a choral group. She loved music and played the piano and was always involved in the church choral groups. One of the highlights of her life was her visit to the Holy Land in 1978. When Tommie was 8 years old, her family moved from Arkansas by covered wagon to Willow Springs, TX. She loved New Mexico and loved her family and almost always accompanied them on their vacations. Tommie retired in 1978 from Coxťs department store in Ft. Worth, TX after being employed for over 30 years. Service will take place on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Rio Rancho Church of Christ, 1006 22nd SE, Rio Rancho, NM, with Joe McDaniel, officiating. Burial will take place on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Moore Memorial Park in Arlington, Texas. Voet -- Chief Warrant Officer, Robert Joseph Voet, US Army Retired, died on August 6, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jane Voet of Albuquerque; brother Roger Voet of Barra de Navidad, Mexico; son James Voet of Albuquerque, and son Steven and his wife Margaret Alcock of Santa Fe. Robert Voet was born on October 13, 1921 in Appleton, WI to John and Evelyn Voet. He completed a military career in 1965 having served in the Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II and subsequently in the regular Army. In 1965 he joined the UNM Police Force rising to the rank of Sergeant, before retiring in 1972. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church, On Monday, August 11, 2003, at 10:30am. Rains -- Dr. Darrel Rains, former beloved pastor of Sandia Baptist Chruch went to be with the Lord, August 1, 2003, he was 57 years old. Darrel's life can be summarized in verse 7 of II Timothy, Chapter 4"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Darrel was born to Ray and Mary Rains August 10, 1945 in Okemah, OK. For 35 years he pastored various Baptist churches in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, and their two children Nathan Rains and wife, Betsy; Amy and husband, Mark Wood; two grandchildren Madison and Taylor Rains; father and stepmother, Ray and Ethel Rains; sister and brother-in-law, Rae Ellen and husband, James Heinzig; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Rains and brother George Rains. Services took place on Monday, August 4, 2003 at Casa View Baptist church in Dallas, TX. Marquez -- Petrita Garcia Marquez, 55, a resident of Albuquerque passed away August 3, 2003. Mrs. Marquez was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Marquez; her father, Cornelio Garcia; son, Patrick James Marquez. She is survived by mother, Anita B. Pritchett; sons, Leonard G. Marquez, Jr., Paul Daniel Marquez and Adrian Marquez; one daughter, Hope Lucero; nine grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. Mrs. Marquez will lie in state Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the family home at 605 Abbie Lane SW and Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. A Rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 5:30 p.m. also at the family home. Carlin -- John Vernon Carlin, passed away August 1, 2003. He was born March 12, 1953 in Biloxi, MS. He was the beloved son of Dolores V. Carlin, brother of Jesse R. Carlin and friend to and of many. Also survived by aunt Barbara Carlin Shahan of Mentor-On-The-Lake, Ohio, uncle James Melton of Longview, TX. He is preceded in death by his father, Maj. John J. Trujillo -- Mr. George Abe Trujillo, 51, passed away August 8, 2003, at home with his family by his side. Mr. Trujillo graduated from Rio Grande High School, class of 1969. He proudly served his Country during the Vietnam era as a U.S. Marine. Mr. Trujillo loved fishing and loved spending time with his family. Mr. Trujillo was preceded in death by his father, Aurelio (Abe) Trujillo. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Nicole; and sons, Nicolas and Jonathan, all of the family home. Mr. Trujillo is also survived by his mother, Katie Trujillo of Los Lunas; sisters, Debra Ulibarri and husband, Ernie of Albuquerque, Junie Martinez and husband, James of Brighton, Colorado, Carla Trujillo and husband, Genaro Tafoya of Albuquerque, and Renee Trujillo and husband, Robert Reveles of Los Lunas. Mr. Trujillo is also survived by three God-daughters whom he loved dearly, Patricia Duggins of Los Lunas, Victoria Cordova and Sabrina Carabajal of Albuquerque. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws who loved him dearly. Funeral Services for Mr. Trujillo are pending and will be announced at a later time. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Genaro Tafoya, Robert Reveles, Patricio Rubio, David Carabajal, Felix Rodriguez, Tony Trujillo and Chris Chavez. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Trujillo, Jack Martinez, Tim Cordova and John Nunez.
