Baca -- Stella C. Baca y Castillo, 91, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Mary Sanchez, on Sunday evening after a long illness. She was one of six daughters of Felipe Castillo, a longtime Belen blacksmith and Macedonia Castillo. She was born and raised in Pueblitos, NM, south of Belen, and up until two years ago, resided in La Costancia, NM. Stella and her sisters helped their father work the farm and the blacksmith shop. She often recalled her childhood very fondly, remembering the wonderful times she had with her sisters. They were gracious, loving sisters that enjoyed life to its fullest. Stella also spoke lovingly of Arculla, the mother that raised them after her birth mother passed away during the flu epidemic of 1918. As a young lady attending a teacher's convention, Stella met the man she was to spend the rest of her life with. In her early marriage, she substituted as a teacher along side her husband who was a teacher for the Belen School for over 42 years. As a loving and devoted mother and wife, she was always positive and full of spirit. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, and a ladies card club which she enjoyed very much. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 67 years, Frank D. Baca in 2001; and her three sisters, Mary Aragon; Florela Baca; and Emma Mora. Stella is survived by her five children, Mary Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM; Albert Baca and his wife, Darlene of La Mirada, CA; Frank Baca and his wife, Jo of Fallbrook, CA; Louis Baca and his wife, Debbie of Albuquerque; and Angela Capshaw of Chicago, IL; 11 grandchildren, Claude Sanchez, Jr.; Connie Terry; Pauline Sanchez; Daniel Sanchez; Christopher Baca; Leslie Acevedo; Tracy Warman; Pamela Bennett; Michael Baca; Miranda Baca; and Crista Ciska; and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Rebecca Abeyeta of Belen; and Fina Gilbert. She will be greatly missed by many people especially her sisters, her children, and all of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at Romero Funeral Home beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited by Deacon Norbert Sanchez at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at 9:00am at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church with Father Schultz officiating. Interment will be at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Cemetery. Benavidez -- Edward Joseph Benavidez peacefully passed on from this life at the age of 78, on Sunday, August 10, 2003, and left surviving him his daughter, Rosella Garcia, husband, Frank, and his son, Edward Frank Benavidez, Esquire. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Anthony Benavidez, and his sister, Cleotilde (Tillie) Block. Mr. Benavidez was well-known for his devotion to promoting the cultural heritage of his native Northern New Mexico ancestry and was a founding member of Los Caballeros de Vargas and the Santa Fe chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and enjoyed lifetime membership benefits in La Union Protectiva de Santa Fe. His military service included serving in an infantry unit during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and he was decorated for bravery during the Battle for Normandy; he was a founding member of the honor guard unit of American Legion, Carlisle-Bennett Unit, Post 13. He was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on December 13, 1924, and, during the Cold War era, from 1946 to 1967, he was employed with the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the United States Atomic Energy Commission where, as an electronics technician, at nuclear explosion test sites in Mercury, Nevada, the Pacific Johnson Islands, Antarctica and the North and South Poles, he assisted with the retrieval and examination of instruments placed from each explosion s"ground zero". Also surviving Mr. Benavidez are grandchildren, Michelle Rodriguez, husband Donald, David Anaya, Michael Anthony Benavidez, Kimberly Lorenzini, husband Massimo, Phillip Anaya, Mario Benavidez and Javier Benavidez, Misty Duran and Donald Duran, Jr. His great-grandchildren include Candace Payne, Anthony, Matthew, Elyxus, and Sheyane Anaya, and Anthony Michael Benavidez. Mr. Benavidez children, Rosella and Edward, and his brother Armando and sister Mary, invite his many relatives and friends to join them in celebrating his passage from this life at memorial services which are to take place as follows: Tuesday, August 12th, 2003, 7:15 p.m., San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, Old Town Plaza, Albuquerque, NM; reception to immediately follow at the San Jose Mission Parish Hall, Los Duranes Community Wednesday, August 13, 2003, 11:00 a.m., Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Agua Fria and Sandoval Streets, Santa Fe, NM; meal to be served immediately following at the BPOE Elks Lodge, Old Taos Highway.

Briscoe -- Carmelita Briscoe, a resident of Albuquerque and native born of Isleta Pueblo, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2003. Carmelita was preceded in death by her father, Depoldo Whippie; son, Jerry Briscoe; mother Maria Whippie. Carmelita was a memeber of St Edwins Catholic Church in SW Albuquerque. She is survived by George Briscoe her husband of 41 years; sons, George Briscoe Jr., of Moriarty, Mike Briscoe and wife, Kerry of Washington State; daughter, Georgianna Gallegos and husband, Tibo of Los Lunas; step daughters, Yvette Briscoe Thomas and Danny, Connie Briscoe all of Louisiana; brother, Joseph and Ellen Whippie of California; sister, Lola Montoya and Porfilio; many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren; other nieces, nephews and other family members whom she loved very much. Her grandchildren were her joy. Carmelita had a love for everyone and a heart that went out to everyone. Services will be held at St Edwins Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona SW. Forrest -- Dee D. Forrest, a resident of Albuquerque for 30 years, passed away on August 8, 2003 at the age of 76. Dee was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge and enjoyed flying and fishing. A World War II Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy. Dee managed Monticello R.V. Park for several years prior to moving to Albuquerque. Dee was preceded in death by his wife, Elna Mae; and his daughter, Cheryl Martinez. He is survived by his daughter, Beverly A. Turkowski and husband, David; grandchildren, Randy Godfrey, David Martinez and wife, Susie, and Angela Martinez; great- grandson, Timothy Martinez; and half- brother, James Neher. Freeman -- Col. Belvin S. Freeman US Army, (Ret.) a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, August 7, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Peggy J. Freeman of Albuquerque; sons, Belvin S. Freeman II of Fayston, VT, Michael Allan Freeman and wife, Karen of Gillette, NJ; and grandchildren, Kathryn Rose and Leah June. Belvin served his country in the US Army and retired after nearly 30 years. He was an active member of the Military Officers Association. Gonzales -- Edward (Eddie) Elias Gonzales 83, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away on August 10, 2003. Eddie is survived by his sister, Gloria Dine and Ida; his loving wife of 56 years, and their four children; Charles, Kathy, Barbara and Pat; four grand children Sara, Jennifer, Daniel and Avram; and one grandchild Richard. Eddie served in the Army and was also a retired U.S. Postal Service employee. He had prior membership affiliations with Elks Lodge #461 for 30 years, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. He served as an usher at Imacculate Conception, St. Bernadette and John XXIII Catholic Church. Eddie loved his music and enjoyed dancing and singing and was for about 12 years a member of"The Harmonizers", a volunteer senior citizen chorale singing group. When he wasn't listening to his music or singing, you could find him striking up conversation with just about anyone, sharing his jokes and words of wisdom. He was a great and honorable husband, father, relative and friend and will be deeply missed but never forgotten by those of us who shared life with him. A Rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2003 followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at John XXIII Catholic Church, 4831 Tramway Ridge Rd. N.E., Albuquerque, New Mexico. His ashes will be buried at the Veterans National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Jaramillo -- Mr. Donicio ( Dan ) Jaramillo, 64, a resident of Magdalena, New Mexico passed away on August 10, 2003. Mr. Jaramillo is the beloved husband of 46 years to Mrs. Simona Jaramillo. Mr. Jaramillo is also survived by three daughters, Debra Sanchez and husband, Fred, Denise Duran and husband, Carlos and Diane Zamora and husband, Adrian; two sons, Danny Jaramillo Jr. and wife, Kathy and Donald Jaramillo; five sisters, Mela Castillo, Nora Cordova, Maria Williams, Pepe Lovato and husband, Pete, Rose Romero and husband, Joe; three brothers, Mike Jaramillo, Orlando Jaramillo and Lawrence Jaramillo; 12 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great- nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Jaramillo was a member of the Catholic Church, a Veteran of the U. S. Navy and retired from the Albuquerque Fire Department after 21 years of service. A visitation for Mr. Jaramillo will be Wednesday evening in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Tom and Rosalie Turrietta. Jaramillo -- Lupita V. Jaramillo, 89, a resident of El Cerro, New Mexico passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2003. She was a member of Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church in Valencia, NM, Legion of Mary, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Sewing Committee. Lupita enjoyed sewing for her family, her beloved church, and the Altar Society. For many years, she assisted her husband in the operation of a dairy farm. She is preceded in death by her husband, Max Jaramillo in 1976; sisters, Dulemia Aragon; and Rosina Vigil; brothers, Estanislado Vigil; and Joseph Vigil; and granddaughter, Braylene J. Jaramillo. Juancho -- Patricia D. Juancho, 34, a resident of Isleta, New Mexico passed away on August 11, 2003. Patricia is the beloved daughter to Joseph and Sarah Juancho. Patricia is also survived by one son, Brandon Thomas Cervantes; one sister, Christine Juancho; one brother, Joseph Anthony Juancho and wife, Veronica; her grandparents, Seferino Juancho and Josephine Apodaca; four nieces, Desiree, Adrianna, Samantha and Brittney; one nephew, Joseph; God Parents, Frank and Lupita Juancho; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Lucero -- Procopio Lucero, 91, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away after a short illness on Monday, August 11, 2003, a month prior to his 92nd birthday. He is survived by his daughters, Isabel Lucero Cummings of Los Alamos and Felo Cortez of Albuquerque; son, Luis Lucero of Mesa, AZ; grandsons, Bob Cortez of Albuquerque, Chuck Cummings of Los Alamos and Mark Lucero and wife, Yvonne of Phoeniz, AZ; granddaughters, Celia Cortez-Gentner and husband, Tom of Santa Fe, Karen Young and husband, Dan of Los Alamos and Angela Lucero of Los Angeles, CA; sisters, Eloisa Alires and Romona Gonzales, both of Albuquerque, Antonia Martinez of Santa Fe and Lucia Flores of California; and three great-grandchildren, Tristan, Geovonni and LaReina. Mr. Lucero was born to Rumaldo and Catalina Lucero on September 11, 1911. Formerly of Santa Fe, he retired as a plumber from Zia Co. in Los Alamos in 1977. He was a member of NM Pipes and Trades Local 412, for over 50 years. He was also a member of Union Protectiva. Mr. Lucero had a great sense of humor, was loved by all, and had a close relationship with God, his family, friends and the earth. Rowton -- Frank Rowton, Major, USAF retired, died Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the Heart Hospital of NM at the age of 82. A native of Kansas, he resided in Albuquerque for many years before and after retiring from the Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Garnette (Pat) I. Rowton; sons, William C. Rowton and wife Linda H., Donald T. Rowton, Robert L. Rowton; grandson, Richard A. Rowton; sister, Thelma R. Schroeder; cousin, Bud Rowton; and many step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild. A man of many interests, he pursued many hobbies, including amateur radio, flying, airplane building, photography, archeology, genealogy, hunting and fishing. He was a Charter member, Perpetual Life member and Past Master of Zia Daylight Lodge No. 77, A.F. & A. M. He was also a plural member of Anthem Lodge #284, A.F. & A.M., of Scott City, Kansas and an endowed member of the Valley of Santa Fe, Orient of New Mexico, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He also was a member of several other organizations, including the Reserve Officers Association, the Retired Officers Association, The American Legion, National Sojourners, Heroes of 76, The National Rifle Association, the New Mexico Shooting Sports Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the American Radio Relay League. Sandoval -- Ronald J. Sandoval, age 44, beloved husband, father, son and brother passed away Friday, August 8, 2003. Ronald was a life long resident of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Sandoval. Ronald is survived by his loving wife Venessa Sandoval; his children, Joseph and Adriana Sandoval; his parents Johnny and Genevieve Sandoval; three brothers, Patrick, Moises, Julian Sandoval; paternal grandmother, Maria Sandoval. Also surviving are Ronald's father and mother-in-law, Joe and Martha Garley; sister-in-law Cecilia Sandoval; brother-in-law, Michael Garley; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Thomas -- Lt. Col. James Edwin (Ed) Thomas, US Army, Retired, 63, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2003. He is survived by his son, Marc Thomas and wife, Michelle; daughter, Leigh Martinez and husband, Thomas; three grandchildren, Kyle, Jared, and Isabella. Ed was born on March 25, 1940 in Boston, MA. A resident of Albuquerque since 1978, he retired recently, and enjoyed spending his time riding his motorcycle, gardening, and enjoying time with friends and family. After graduating with an Engineering Degree from Northeastern University, Ed spent his career in service to his country, first in the Army, and later with contractors working for the Department of Energy. Along the way, he earned his Masters Degree from the University of North Dakota. Ed was much loved, and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Trujillo -- Mr. George Abe Trujillo, The family would like to thank all of their relatives and friends who were in attendance of the Rosary and Funeral Services. Villegas -- Mr. Agustin Villegas, 76, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on August 09, 2003. Mr. Villegas is survived by two sons, Agustin G. Villegas and wife Anna, and Roberto Villegas; seven sisters, Cuca Gary and husband, Cruz, Lupe Ulibarri and husband, Frank, Adelaida Campos, Josefina de la Trinidad Villegas, Eulalia Navarette and husband, Luis, Rosario Sanchez and Celia Herrera and husband, Emiliano Jr.; two brothers, Ireneo S. Villegas and wife, Anita, Javier Villegas and wife, Alicia; three grandchildren, Agustin J., Anthony R.R., and Alisa Villegas; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Villegas was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation will be Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at San Jose Catholic Church, 2401 Broadway SE, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at San Jose Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at San Jose Catholic Church with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Wilt -- Kenneth L. Wilt, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1983, died Friday, August 8, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Colleen B. Wilt; sons, Laurence Lee Dyche and wife, Debbi, Robin Ray Dyche and wife, Carol; daughter, Karen Kay Becker and husband, Russell; son, Kim Lamar Wilt and wife, Donna all of Albuquerque; and grandchildren, Bryan Dyche and wife, Amy, Kevin, Heather, and Jeremy Dyche and Kenny and Ryan Wilt.
