Melvin -- James Shelby Melvin, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo Melvin of Albuquerque; son, Thomas L. Melvin and wife, Rochelle of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Nancy Ulibarri and husband, Theodore of Loveland, CO; five grandchildren, Laura Harrington and husband, Kevin of Riverton WY; Joyce Jarman and husband, Lance of Springfield, MO; Mindy McIntyre and husband, James of Albuquerque; Michelle Dearholt and husband, Jimmy of Albuqurque; Cassandra Melvin of Albuquerque; and seven great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by a son, Paul Melvin and daughter, Cecilia Melvin. He retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service, and worked 15 years for Sears. James was a member of St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 3:00 p.m. at St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church, with The Reverend David Luckenbach officiating. Brown -- Harriet Z. Brown, age 84, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 27, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Brown, grandson Landon, and brothers, Jack and Tom Zalaha. Harriet is survived by her daughter, Susan Hixenbaugh; granddaughter, Alysia; grandson, James and five great- grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, their families, and other family and friends who loved and will miss her. Harriet loved to travel. She was a longtime travel agent at Globetrotters and Atlas Travel, and she was also an avid golfer. A memorial service will be held at St. Johns Cathedral, 4th and Silver SW. in Albuquerque, on Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow. Gillespie -- Robert S."Bob" Gillespie, age 88, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at his home in Albuquerque, NM, where he was a resident for 54 years. Bob was born in LeMars, IA and after graduating from the public school system, attended Western Union College in LeMars. He graduated from the University of Illinois and later earned an advanced degree from the University of Iowa. He served in the US National Guard, followed by more than three years in the US Army. He was assigned to a Submarine Command serving overseas in the Mediterranean area and the Middle East. He was honorably discharged from the Army with an American Defense Service Medal and an EAME Campaign Medal with a Bronze Star Good Conduct Medal. Bob and his wife, Virginia moved to Albuquerque in 1949 when he became a member of the faculty in the Department of Journalism at the University of New Mexico. After several years with the University, Bob took a position with Sandia Laboratories as a Technical Writer. Following a fulfilling career, he retired from Sandia in 1977. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Fleck Gillespie of LeMars, IA and Dallas, TX. Other members of Robert's family to precede him in death were Dr. James B. Gillespie of Champaign, IL; and sisters, Katherine Troxler of California and Marion Templeman of New Mexico. He is survived by his daughter, Virginia C."Ginger" Gillespie and son-in-law, William"Biff" Thompson of Albuquerque; and son, Charles S. Gillespie and his wife, Frances of Stagecoach, TX. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Nathan and Kaleena Thompson of Albuquerque and Katherine and Rachel Gillespie of Stagecoach; nieces and nephews, Connie Coates, Kathy Watkins, John and Joan Templeman, and Bill and Barbara Templeman of Santa Fe, Ginger Troxler of California, James and Emily Gillespie of Florida, and Emily Henry and Robin Troxler of Massachusetts. Also surviving are many great-nieces and nephews and many loving friends in Albuquerque, most especially Don and Dora Sylvester, Bob Vales, and Rev. Harold Trott. Graveside Services will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, August 29, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark's On The Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE, on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in memory of Bob Gillespie to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St, New York, NY 10032. Sulier -- Ellen Marie Sulier, age 82, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2003. She was born in Clovis, NM on June 18, 1921. After high school she graduated from Shannon School of Nursing, San Angelo, Texas 1944. After graduation she joined the Army as a nurse, serving 1945 through 1946. She received a meritorious service plaque. After raising her four children, she had a career as a registered nurse at the A.T.& S.F. Railroad Hospital in Albuquerque, NM as the Outpatient Nursing Supervisor. She retired in 1979. She was very devoted to her family, especially her three grandchildren. She is survived by her four children, Ken Darrow and wife, Becky, Nora Sulier, Robert Sulier, and Barbara Bowdich and husband, William; three grandchildren, Jeff Darrow, Daniel Bowdich and Nikki Bowdich; sister, Faye Slovacek of San Diego, CA; brother-in-law, James Sulier of Clovis, NM; sister-in-law, Mary Williams of Kingman, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings who died in a fire when she was only 12 years old and later in life by her husband, Daniel Sulier; a sister, Viola Ray; and two brothers, Ralph Williams and Bill ťJuniorť Williams. Center -- Lizzie Gallegos Center, age 71, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, born November 4, 1931 in Albuquerque went to be with our Lord on August 25, 2003 after suffering from heart failure. A devout Catholic, she was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish. She was preceded in death by her father, Nick Gallegos; and her mother, Antonia Gallegos. She was a loving and generous person who would help anyone in need, and was loved dearly by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, William Center; son, Billy Center; daughter, Joan Marentes; granddaughter, Yvette Marentes; grandson, Eric Marentes. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish, 5310 Claremont Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM. Mass will be held Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Schwartz -- Mr. James F. Schwartz, 61, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on August 22, 2003. Mr. Schwartz is survived by his loving wife, Diane of 37 years; two sons, Zachary Schwartz and Michael Thomas Schwartz and wife, Angela; five sisters, Elizabeth Peterson, Barbara Bollinger and husband, Gordon, Kathy Fry, Margie Harris, and Rita Schwartz; five brothers, William Schwartz, Richard Schwartz and wife, Leslie, Louis Schwartz and wife, Barbara, Greg Schwartz and wife, Kathleen, Jerry Schwartz and wife; two grandchildren, Makayla and Kaiden Schwartz; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Schwartz was a member of the Catholic Church. Potter -- Gregory James Potter, 34, of Albuquerque, died at home of natural causes Saturday, August 23, 2003. Greg grew up in Los Alamos, where he displayed a gift and a joy for track, football and wrestling. He was a devoted Chicago Bulls and Cubs fan who enjoyed watching games with his Grandpa Danz. He was active in the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. His genuine warmth and compassion for friends and strangers was legend. His personality was an eclipsing light toward which so many souls gravitated. Greg loved to bring laughter to those in his presence and was a devoted son, brother and uncle who would do anything for his family. He will be greatly missed. Greg is survived by his parents, James M. and Darlene Potter of Los Alamos; sisters, Kristin Pederson of Los Alamos and Anna Nowell of El Paso, Texas; brothers, Rudy Potter of Los Alamos and Jaiya John of Silver Spring, Maryland; Brothers-in-law, Neal Pederson of Los Alamos and Jeremy Nowell of El Paso; nephew, Benjamin Pederson; and niece, Michelle Pederson of Los Alamos; niece, Jordan McCoy-John of Takoma, Maryland; grandmothers, Betty Danz of Ottowa, Illinois and Marie Warsaw of East Peoria, Illinois; and the many relatives he kept close to his heart. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Rudolph Danz and Harold Potter of Peoria, Illinois and Art Warsaw of East Peoria, Illinois. Services are to be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Los Alamos, New Mexico on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Guaje Pines and reception at Parish Hall to follow.
