Obituary for Potter

Gregory James Potter, 34, of Albuquerque, died at home of natural causes Saturday, August 23, 2003. Greg grew up in Los Alamos, where he displayed a gift and a joy for track, football and wrestling. He was a devoted Chicago Bulls and Cubs fan who enjoyed watching games with his Grandpa Danz. He was active in the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. His genuine warmth and compassion for friends and strangers was legend. His personality was an eclipsing light toward which so many souls gravitated. Greg loved to bring laughter to those in his presence and was a devoted son, brother and uncle who would do anything for his family. He will be greatly missed. Greg is survived by his parents, James M. and Darlene Potter of Los Alamos; sisters, Kristin Pederson of Los Alamos and Anna Nowell of El Paso, Texas; brothers, Rudy Potter of Los Alamos and Jaiya John of Silver Spring, Maryland; Brothers-in-law, Neal Pederson of Los Alamos and Jeremy Nowell of El Paso; nephew, Benjamin Pederson; and niece, Michelle Pederson of Los Alamos; niece, Jordan McCoy-John of Takoma, Maryland; grandmothers, Betty Danz of Ottowa, Illinois and Marie Warsaw of East Peoria, Illinois; and the many relatives he kept close to his heart. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Rudolph Danz and Harold Potter of Peoria, Illinois and Art Warsaw of East Peoria, Illinois. Services are to be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Los Alamos, New Mexico on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Guaje Pines and reception at Parish Hall to follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Albuquerque & Rio Rancho, P.O. Box 3963, Albuquerque, NM 87190. Please notate donations as:"In memory of Gregory James Potter." A memorial program for youth will be established in Greg's name to honor his lifelong love for children.
