GALLEGOS -- Mary Del (Sena) Gallegos, 72, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on Wednesday March 3, 2010. Mary is survived by her husband of 52 years Paul P. SANCHEZ -- Helen Sanchez, born April 22, 1928 in Belen, NM and passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the age of 81. She is preceded in death by her parents, Enriquez and Perelgrina Sanchez; sisters, Josie S. Gallegos and Marcella S. Zeniceros. Helen is survived by her sisters, Gregorita Sanchez, Ismenia Gutierrez and husband, Felix, Gabriella Taylor and husband Bill, and Frances Gallegos; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great great-nieces and nephews; as well as other family and friends who loved her and will miss her. Helen had a stroke six years ago and was provided care by her loving sister, Frances Gallegos, and her loving niece, Eleanor Gallegos. She loved to play bingo and was a chef and baker for Siglers cafeteria for many years until they closed. After that, she went to work for First National Bank until she retired in 1981. Services will be held at San Ignacio Catholic Church, 1300 Walter NE. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Gallegos, Tony Gallegos, Rudy Gallegos, Adrian Gallegos, Joseph Gallegos, Anthony Gallegos, Augustin Victoria, and Art Alirez. VALDEZ -- Dora Garcia Valdez, age 64, peacefully left this earth to see the face of God February 21, 2010. She was surrounded by her family as she entered this new journey of everlasting life. Dora was born on February 6, 1946 in Trujillo, New Mexico to Benito and Cecilia Garcia. Her grandparents, Simon and Elvira Garcia, also helped raise her. She graduated from Robertson High School in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She worked many jobs in and around the Las Vegas, New Mexico area for many years including as an aide at the Paul D. Henry Elementary School and St. Anthony's Hospital. She gave birth to her son, Anthony Gallegos in 1964. Dora met Paul Chavez in 1980 and together, they set out on a lifetime companionship and love. Dora helped raise Paul's children and took care of him. They traveled together and worked in many vegetable gardens. Dora loved to go camping, spanish music and animals. She leaves behind her dog, Pepper. She lived in Estancia, Truth or Consequences and in her family home of Bosque Farms, New Mexico. Dora brought calm, quiet strength and love to all who entered her life. Dora was preceded in death by her parents: Benito and Cecilia Garcia; grandparents: Simon and Elvira Garcia; stepmother: Margaret Romero-Garcia; two half-brothers: Johnny Garcia and Francis Garcia. Dora is survived by Paul Chavez of Bosque Farms, NM; her children: Anthony Gallegos and wife Leanne of Centennial, Co; Lita Diaz of Estancia, NM; Paulina Scanland and her husband Scott of Santa Fe, NM; Jeff Chavez and his wife Melissa, Judy Chavez and John Chavez and his wife Anika all of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandson Joseph Gallegos; special niece: Cecilia Larson of Las Vegas, NM who selflessly donated a kidney to Dora which helped her stay on this earth for an additional 8 years; three sisters: Romie Trujillo of Longmont, CO; Virginia Ortiz of Las Vegas, New Mexico; Sylvia Larson of Las Vegas, NM; two-half sisters: Sandra Duran and Anna Jean Garcia both of Las Vegas, NM; brother: Benny Garcia of Wichita, KS; her large extended family including her uncle: Ralph Garcia of Pueblo, CO; aunts: Amelia Montano and Victoria Gutierrez both of Las Vegas, NM; Corina Gutierrez of Pueblo, CO; and Rosarito Gutierrez of Meeker, CO; numerous: grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. (Dora will be sorely missed but we are comforted that she is no longer in pain and is at peace). ODDO -- Laura Mae Oddo, age 29, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 5 years and former resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away on February 14, 2010. She was born in Las Vegas, NM on March 26, 1980 to Gilbert Gold, Jr. and Vikki Owings Gold. She was united in marriage to Michael S. Oddo on April 15, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. She was an LPN for the past 10 years, something she was very proud of. She cared deeply for her patients, staff and took care of everyone else's needs before her own. She had a very real love for her animals and loved to spend time with her nephew and nieces. She was known to always help others. She was a member of the West Mesa Christian Church in Rio Rancho. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Joe B. and Delia M. Owings; nephew, Joshua Gallegos; uncles, Joseph Gold and Joey Owings; and paternal grandmother, Sofia Gold. She is survived by her husband, Michael S. GALLEGOS -- Alfred Gallegos, age 67, a resident of Jarales, NM, peacefully went home to be with our Lord on February 14, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was retired from Piggy Wiggly and Rio Grande Conservancy District where he work for many years. Alfred proudly served our country in the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio and Stella (Sanchez) Gallegos; two brothers, Fr. Albert Gallegos O.S.M, and Moises and wife, Aureilia; three sisters, Carmen and husband, Bob Flick, Norena "Diana" Baughman and Bernadette Gallegos and his in-laws, Willie Lovato Sr. and wife, Helen. Alfred is survived by his loving wife, Virgie of 42 years; loving daughter, Audra Gallegos-Baca and husband, Anthony; sister, Mary Sue Sanchez of Belen; four brothers, Fr. David D. Gallegos of Fullerton, CA, Ignacio and wife, Alicia of Carteret, NJ, Manuel and wife, Teresa, Nestor and wife, Frances of Belen; and brother-in-law, Willie Lovato Jr. and wife, Dorothy. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rita, his three children; Phyllis Adams and husband Donald, Stephen Gallegos, Elaine Candelaria; six grandchildren, Joshua Narcisso, Seth Adams and wife Megan, Stephanie Gromek and husband Matthew, Julie Mulhern and husband Mark, Jessica Gallegos, Daniel Candelaria and wife Ana; three great-grandchildren, Brecon Adams, Lexi and Christian Candelaria; a sister, Della Gallegos; daughter-in-law, June Gallegos Moser; nephew, Robert Garcia and wife Bernadette; several loving sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Pete worked at Sandia National Laboratories for over 34 years before retiring in 1985. He then worked for Babcock EMI of California for five and one half years. ELKINS -- Mildred Elkins, age 85, passed away on February 3, 2010, at her home in Albuquerque. She was born December 19, 1924, at the family ranch in Prewitt, New Mexico, to Thomas Lawrence Elkins and Josephine Tietjen Elkins. As a child she attended schools in Prewitt, Thoreau, Grants, and graduated from Gallup HS. She was a Home Economics major at Fort Lewis College in Hesperus, CO, until the outbreak of WWII, after which she was a Santa Fe Railroad telegraph operator for five years. Over the years Mildred had various other jobs such as substitute teacher, cook, horse wrangler, brand clerk for the NM Livestock Board, and finally retired as a social worker for the state of NM in 1985. After retirement, she kept busy as a health advocate volunteer for AARP. In her later years she enjoyed playing cards and dominoes at her local senior center, and especially treasured her trips to her cabin in Water Canyon on Mt. Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Lawrence Elkins, Kin Elkins, Hattie Elkins, Jack Elkins, Keith Elkins, Dave Elkins, and Fred Elkins; and son, Lynn Elton Allen. Mildred is survived by brothers, D.J. Elkins and Buddy Elkins; son Luther "Eddie" Allen of Bellingham, Washington; daughter, Joy Burns and husband Dale of Grants; grandchildren, Maya Gallegos and husband Daniel of Albuquerque, Tory Burns of Albuquerque, Todd Burns and wife Annalee of Rio Rancho; and great-grandson, Gage Burns of Rio Rancho. In accordance with her wishes for no formal funeral service, a small memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at Dale and Joy Burns' home on Sunday, February 7, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (call 505-287-7617 for more info.). She will be cremated and a graveside service will be performed at Prewitt later in the spring.
